I honestly didn't even realize that was an option.

I used Magical Knack - I don't see why it wouldn't be ok. I mean all it does is raise your caster level +2 but not higher than your HD so it's perfect for any dipping you do.

Specialization is a special ability through the Incanter and/or Sphere Wizard. I'm not sure of any other way to get it and a quick skim through any rules for SoP seems to not yield any other results.

I'm not the GM or anything but I hope some of that helps!

thats entirely fine. I was going to take Sorcery as a sphere and use the White dragon bleed damage thing as my go to.

If not I'd love to know what hoops I need to jump through for one of those.
Some of those are wicked cool.

As it is granted to me by my class will there be opportunities for my character to make potions in the future?
If such actions would be made difficult would you permit me to trade it for something else?
I'd been considering trading it with the Grenadier archeytype but none of the higher level abilities grant me anything due to the classes focus on bombs.

I haven't decided yet. For now its fine but I may decide otherwise if people abuse it.

Specializations are for Incanter and Wizard specifically.

Crafting will be possible but beyond that I make no guarantees of the availability of materials or time do so. You will have to observe the modified crafting rules found in Spheres of Power.

Well I guess my alchemist gets to pretend to be a high caster until L9 then.

I'd prefer to trade the Brew potion feat for something else if that is viable then. Normally PFS alchemists trade it for Extra Bombs but that obviously won't work. Would it be alright to exchange for the Sphere focus feat?

And alchemical tools, which are mundane items?
Don't suppose you have the Making Crafting Work PDF? As normal mundane crafting takes an impressive amount of time to make things unless you heavily invest.
I'm planning on having a supply of fire/acid/holy water on hand in case a bad guy we encounter is suicidal to fight at close range.
It would be nice to know if I could build that little supply at 1/3rd the cost.

@Orntorias
As you seem to know a decent chunk about Path of war, any advice about things I might want to grab as a rogue type?
I don't suppose Island of Blades made the jump for 3.5?
I'll admit I've not purchased that 3rd party set so I know next to nothing on it but I did very much enjoy the BO9S which the PoW books drew their inspiration.

GM Spooks, I fixed all the crude errors I could find, so now it should be good to go. Click here for the updated sheet. If I still am missing anything let me know. Also, my updated alias can be found under the name Tarina Grimshaw.

I hope I will get the chance to see how she fares in combat!

Be aware that I am entertaining the idea of magical knack to make it possible for characters to dip a level into spheres and get some fun souls-themed toys, not as a means for mid-casters to edge out others. If the latter outweigh the former then I will reconsider my position.

You are still able to craft and I will not be imposing any further restrictions on crafting so you will be stuck with Brew Potion unless you get rid of it with an archetype as normal.

I am aware of those rules but not particularly eager to implement them as I have no qualms with the crafting system as it stands.

If you could post a link to your sheet in the alias I would appreciate it.

Not any exact clones that I could find through my quick search.

PoW is pretty expansive and has great abilities depending on what you are looking for in your combat style - for example with a Dual Wielding Rougeish type would probably find a great home in the Thrashing Dragon Style [moves to enhance dual weapon potency] and some extra maneuvers from Veiled Moon Style [short range teleportion, incorporeal, stealth]

Without being an Initatior class [A class that can naturally use PoW powers] the only other way is to pick up feats that unlock/allow for you to learn maneuvers.

A way to keep with your idea - sort of - is to take a Rogue Archetype provided in [url=https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tbBIinA90VQW8eriM0TZTZCbHsSU6cdv7_44J8w564s/edit]this document[/ulr]. This would let you play an Initiator Rouge. Then take VMC Alechemist which will give you crafting and bombs. The only problem is you wouldn't be able to Beastmorph.

I'm going to go Mystic/magus knight type.

Kind of fond of the idea of an order of fire and lightning wielders coming en masse and dying by the dozen leaving our friend here to carry on.

Also, so glad the 3rd dark souls isn't going to be like bloodborne.

Fine by me, I'll swap it or keep it once you have a decision.

As to crafting/potions. Fair enough.

Would there be any issue to a human sub-race with the classic elf Array?
(+2dex-2con+2int)
Fluff would go something like:

This one hails from a distant city of smog that grew corpulent as trade from the sea and mercantile victories on land condensed more and more influence into the hands of the few.
Naturally the city grew to respect those quick and clever, but little was said on the toll such excess took on ones body or soul.

@Orntorias
Beastmorph doesn't stack with the Hunter trait Beasthood sphere.
Though I may well take it anyway as there is next to nothing else in the archetypes for alchemists which I can trade the poison abilities for something terribly useful.

I suppose I can try to make a poison farm in game to dull the costs on such things and permit me to take advantage of that part of my class features. It seems from the descriptions in the players guide that this campaign uses the Pathfinder Unchained poison track rules.
The fact that money and experience are the same thing in this setting makes consumable items really costly assuming players gain souls at the same rate in a group.

I'm also fairly sure I'll be taking at least a one level dip into Stalker now that I've looked at the class.
Well unless there is a initiator class that bases itself in Intelligence. That would make it get along much better with my Int stuff from alchemist.

I've liked all the games so far.

An elf array is perfectly acceptable.

We are using Unchained disease, poison, stamina (with feat access), and background skills. I missed this in my opening post, but made a small addendum above. Apologies.

You can still barter or simply trade for whatever it is you need and I'm not going to nickel and dime you to death on the soul front.

The harbinger class is based on intelligence. There is no OGL of the updated version, but the playtest doc version is still available.

Would I be allowed to make a second character that way you could choose which would be a more suitable candidate?

You can submit as many characters as you'd like.

Right but you would still need the caster talents in order to purchase the Beasthood Talent. The Hunter only gives access to it, but it does not actually give you the ability to cast the spell. What I was saying with the Rouge build is that you have no spell casting and you would need to find a way to get even a single CL in order to use Beasthood

Here's my character.

Name: Izmir Yilmaz
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Ability Scores: Bandit (Racial bonus: STR)
Class: Brawler 2 / Monk (Master of Many Styles) 2
Demi-gestalt: Barbarian
Traits: Chosen Undead, Reactionary, Indomitable Faith; Drawback: Pride
Starting Gift: Font of Divinity
Covenant: Order of the Blooded Maiden
Backstory: Izmir remembers little about his past. His early memories are scattered by the curse slowly eating away at his mind. The memories he does have are unpleasant, painting a picture of a man plagued by misfortune and despair wherever he went in life. One day, he found that he was not only very good at fighting - it also gave him a sense of fulfillment and exhilaration that nothing else could provide. He then sought to become the world's strongest fighter, honing his skills against increasingly powerful foes. These days, he has found worthy opponents to be few and far between, which has only made him all the more determined to seek them out.
Personality: Izmir is boastful and courageous, and refuses to back down from any challenge. He enjoys humiliating and utterly defeating his enemies in unarmed combat.
Description: Izmir stands six feet tall, with a stocky build. He has short brown hair, and his eyes are a rusty, almost reddish color. His sharp, gaunt features usually show a cocky grin or enraged sneer.

And here's my sheet. Just need to finish picking equipment and feats.

Actually, I think I'm going to give him the Grouda ethnicity.

Wrestle with giants!

Alright, my second character a dexterous fighter with the archer archetype is finished.
Her character sheet can be found under the name Rebekah Ripper and I also have her alias done which can be found here.
I decided to take the alternate racial trait "Dual Talent" instead of the bonus feat and skilled traits gained at character creation.
So her stats are as follows, the Warrior array with the +2 to any two abilities as provided by dual talent added to Dexterity and Constitution, and +1 to Dexterity for the 4th level advancement.

:THE STORY SO FAR:

Thak Val Zsing - The Hunter; played by GM Arkwright
Orntorias the Ivory Knight - The Hunter; played by Sach
Tarina Grimshaw - Slayer of Demons; played by D. Killian
Izmir Yilmaz - Chosen Undead; played by Idiot Cube
Rebekah Ripper - Bearer of the Curse; played by D. Killian

==================

Good news: we have enough people to play unless someone drops out of the running.

Thank you to everyone who has shown interest so far and submitted characters. I will continue to keep recruitment open to give those who may be working on characters an opportunity to finish and any lurkers or new people the chance to post.

To be honest I thought something like this would have really blown up. Maybe I should have put "Gestalt" in the subject line?

EDIT: Recruitment is still open and I still welcome and appreciate any and all applicants.

Well damn. Just a bit too slow.

Games with loads of house rules tend to get fewer responses.

For this game I got like 5.

RECRUITMENT IS NOT CLOSED; SELECTIONS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE

Just updating who has applied, sorry for the confusion.

;)

It didn't seem like that many house rules when I wrote it...

I'd still love to see a character from you Tark.

Name: Altair Mooncalf
Race: Male Human (City of smog)
Class: Alchemist (Archaic vivisectionist)
Demi-Gestalt: Oracle (Flames)
Ability Scores: Thief
Trait: The Hunter
Starting Gift: The Fitful Watch
Covenant: Children of the Sun
Backstory: A prodigy of violence Altair blended an academic upbringing with the feral teachings of the Blooded maiden's order. Combining ancient magics of blood and exploitation of anatomy the young man earned favor in the order, rapidly ascending the ranks and becoming one of the preferred hunters for missions of ambush.
Discovering the end result of the path he walked Altair abandoned the Blooded order unwilling to accept the hollow legacy he was fated to leave.
In the company of a pauper sun priest he found solace, that particular kind of madness appealing to the man lacking purpose.
It was then his Mark appeared.
The priest informed Altair of the Omen and gave him a finely crafted watch and told Altair that he needed it more, that the watch would show him a new path.
And so the man set off, feet finding the path few would follow.
Bearing the hope that somewhere in this forbidden place he might find an answer for the riddle of Old blood singing in his veins, gnawing on his soul.

Personality: Analytical, Sharp witted, Penitent, Sombre
Description: Short shorn dark hair and tanned skin of exposure, his right brow bearing a scar nearly bisecting his socket. Short for a man at 5'5'' he is commonly seen wearing a red leather coat a brace of belted on weapon bandoleers, a long sleeved brown undershirt and black gloves with leather boots to match.

Should have the sheet up by the end of tonight. Just need to get gear picked out really.

Looks great so far!

Spooks, I made some minor changes to Rebekah Ripper most of are changes to her equipment.

Altair's crunch is finished. sorry for the delay.

I picked the Dark fog Hex talent under the assumption that it blocks vision like the Fog Cloud spell and would synergize with my characters ability to see through smoke/fog. If that is not the case please do let me know as I'll gladly pick one of the defensive hexes instead.

Purchases in the profile, the purchases of alchemical items are broken up into groupings of 3 as I'm using the crafting price rather than full price. Might as well leverage that +14 modifier. Conveniently enough that also means it will take me next to no effort to redo those purchases if you'd prefer I not take crafting prices at character creation.

Sorry, this just me being curious what was your starting gold?

6000 as a 4rth level Pc character from the chart on this page

Cuz Spooks said so.

Though I do seem to have my purchases off slightly. I don't have 33 gold remaining, I have five. Must have missed some random item on my list.

Heres hoping basic magic items are not impossible to find where we are.

Just looking at it the gold amount didn't add up, unless I made an error somewhere.

Also, I just realized that I miss calculated my character's leftover gold, so I have to go back and recalculate costs and such. Hopefully, just one has this mistake. I noticed that Rebekah Ripper has no need for the Seeker bonus trait so I swapped it out for the Rich Parents bonus trait.

Recruitment will close and selections will be made tomorrow.

Almost done. Sheet is finished and setting profile up now.

And done.

Trait: Wanderer of Forbidden Lands
Gift: Pendant.
Covenant: the Cosmic Watchers

Backstory:

What is the price of one world? How many brave men and women must sacrifice themselves to kindle the flames and make anew the age? For the Knights of Raiden there was no price too high, no amount of blood they would not shed. Through fire, through lightning, through earth and steel they would march into the unnameable lands and uproot its mysteries for the benefit of all.

All the Knights of Raiden discovered, was the price of hubris. All but one died or went insane in the quest to solve the mysteries and slay the monsters of the unnameable lands. The one, named karthan Sternmason, was already past his prime, slow, and came along to do little more than observe, advise, and record as the Thunder Givers embarked on their most glorious quest.

All Karthan observed was death and darkness as one by one the knights fell to the hazards of the unnameable lands. Alone and isolated karthan has changed his own quest from that of conquest to information gathering. This place will be his tomb but at the very least those who come after can come in his stead and learn to benefit from the failure of his fellows. An old man filled with sorrow filled eyes he is determined to do all that he can with the little time that he has left.

And I just realized I made a big mistake and added way too much wealth and can't fix it right now. Crap.

That's alright, selections will be made in about 12 hours and you can still change it.

I checked both characters and removed all gold calculation errors and made some final changes, so both are ready for the selection process.

RECRUITMENT IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED

Accepted submissions:

Orntorias the Ivory Knight
Altair Mooncalf
Karthan Sternmason
Tarina Grimshaw

I apologize to those of you who did not make it in. Please know that I will keep you in mind if I need a replacement or additional player.

For the rest of you, discussion and gameplay are now open.

Fixed. Just got home to do it.

What? How can it be Dark Souls without an unhinged, murderous psychopath?

But nah, it's fine. Thanks for your consideration.
