Ah, great. I'd just assumed average when doing chargen.
How about my question on coinage and encumberance?
HD 2nd Level: 1d8 ⇒ 4
HD 3rd Level: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Johannes Grim |

Another question: of the five extra items, is there just one of each and we split the five amongst us, or could several of us pick the same item?
1. 4 doses of Juju Salt (as Juju orical Reminder of Death (Su):)
2. Amulet of Protection from Evil- (use once week for 10 minutes)
3. A masterwork weapon that is either a repeating Light or heavy X-bow (4 bolts) with a modular hilt that you can pullout that is a mwk Kukuri, as a free action. it is a move action to to replace it. the X-bow cannot be used until replaced. weapon can be enchanted with money as Double weapon.
4. Like the X-bow. you can have a light or heavy mwk Mace/Pick, by pressing a button on the haft the mace has a pointed end that pops out as a free action, it is a move action to replace. the mace cannot be used until the pick has been replaced. enchanted as double weapon.
5. Holy book that can be used to cast Turn Undead DC 15 only once before consumed. Any class can use it.

Johannes Grim |

Yeah, sounds like we've all been traveling together for seven years. Means I'm going to have to adjust my age up a little compared to what I was envisioning. :-)

Alexandria Minerva Paradine |

I will add on a couple years to my own age too then. Don't want to have been underage when we started out.
Also adding a couple things to my equipment list before we get going. Having more that the average starting level money always takes me a while.

Johannes Grim |

IKR? "Hello. I'm the professor. I take preteens with me in my wagon to hunt monsters."
All kinds of weird there.

Johannes Grim |

JMO, but I don't have a problem with long posts, particularly when we're all getting to know one another. I know the etiquette is to keep things short and I don't always have the time to read long posts (and sometimes not even short ones) but...yeah, no problem on my end. I liked reading it.

Thanks, now the real question, you down for an opposed Know(Relig) roll for our little wording dispute? Is that cool DM Chubbs?
I also was wondering what the etiquette is on posting order? Should I wait for everyone else to post again before I post? My only other PBP expierence is with www.ninpocho.com and they had some pretty clearly laid out rules on post lengths and posting order.
(BTW if you like Naruto then ninpocho is a great play by post site, it is d20 based for the stats and combat system, has hundreds of active players who are all RPing in the same continuous world, with large events and an extensive history. I stopped playing awhile back when I injured some disks in my back but have been meaning to get back at it.)

Johannes Grim |

LOL! Love it. Yes, I'm fine with opposed skill checks. Honestly I wasn't thinking of Hans as having a scriptural disagreement but I like where you're going.
I'm curious what everyone else thinks on posting frequency. I'm a little new to this myself so I'm basing s lot of what I understand on PainLords guide in the general discussion area for Online Campaigns.
That said, the way I've approached it is when we have downtime, post as much as you like to the extent others are interacting with you. But when it's an exchange with an NPC or in combat, try to be considerate of the fact that others will want to chime in, too.

Johannes Grim |

<eyes the GM suspiciously>
Wwwwwwwwhy?
...
Spells updated; selected the amulet; tweaked the rest of my gear -- I still have about 700 gold to spend. If there are any suggestions, let me know, but generally I'm thinking of saving it for a second pistol or buying magical enhancement.

Johannes Grim |

let me know if anyone cant log in to caravan.
I can see it but can't edit it.

Johannes Grim |

On the special item, I picked the amulet. Any chance I could make it my holy symbol, too?
Also, with Hero Lab, I had to make it a custom piece of gear rather than a magic item, so it's on my sheet but maybe not where you'd expect.
Edit/PS: I can now edit the caravan page.

Alexandria Minerva Paradine |

I want my amulet of protection to be a large locket in the shape of book. Upon opening the book, one can see holy words of Phrasma written in very tiny handwriting and on the other side, behind a sliver of glass is lock of hair. The hair is claimed to have been from an ancestor of Alexandria's, the very first of her line to bear the birthmark in the shape of Pharasma's symbol who later became a renowned scholar and hunter of undead.

Alexandria Minerva Paradine |

I think that my equipment section is all finished up now.
I went ahead and bought a horse. I know there are wagons, but it is always nice to have the option of riding alone. Plus I would imagine that we have to range out away from the wagons on occasion.

Johannes Grim |

some info on the campaign tab will be updated shortly, those who haven't played a game with me before. I prefer intentionally leaving some things vague in the campaign tab for things you know or false. as you progress new info will be added. Classes could be wrong, alignment, false stories. the only way to know anything for certain is to ask or talk to the people.
Sorry if you already had names picked out! But also good to know! Thanks.

DM Chubbleston |

before we get any further I also want to ask a few things from each play a quick questionnaire.
the hunters haven't been to Renvargo in seven years. you don't have to be with them the whole time. because they always pick up newcomers due to deaths. hunting down rumors might turn up people trying to find there way. so I need to know who was in Renvargo and the hunters when the Professor left seven years ago or who joined after and know the professor and Revargo through stories. Or did you hunt down a prisoner and delivered them to renvargo and the hunters recruited you through this act.
1. years been with the group?
2. do you want to be associated with any of the prisoners from previous run in?
3. have you been to Renvargo before?
4. did you have a short relationship with Crissa?

Johannes Grim |

I'll defer to Grethel/Mott on one and two. I'm imagining 1 may determine 3 (unless we went before joining the professor), so I'll defer on that one, too.. I think Hans would be open to a dalliance with Crissa; the fact that they seem like short lived flings would appeal to him (less chance of getting into an emotional entanglement and then betrayed).
BTW, any objection to one quick addition to my non magical gear? If we suspected these two were lycanthropes, I probably would have crafted some silver bullets. If it's okay, I'll add 5 silver bullets and deduct the appropriate gold for having crafted them.

Vortigorn |

1. years been with the group?
2 years
2. do you want to be associated with any of the prisoners from previous run in?
Sure, if it works.
3. have you been to Renvargo before?
No.
4. did you have a short relationship with Crissa?
Traveling companions. Vort is not much on relationships.

Alexandria Minerva Paradine |

1. years been with the group?
Several. Joined shortly before they left Renvargo.
2. do you want to be associated with any of the prisoners from previous run in?
It does not matter to me.
3. have you been to Renvargo before?
Yes, she lived there for several years with her father.
4. did you have a short relationship with Crissa?
Long relationship as a friend.

Johannes Grim |

I have a question for the GM and, unless he has a particular preference, my fellow players.
In another game, we had an incident where one of the players did something rather dramatic and surprising, raising some questions about morality and alignment. I was the GM, the player cleared it with me ahead of time, but a couple of the players were really upset.
We resolved to raise such surprises ahead of time, OOC, in the discussion thread.
It doesn't look like we have any strictly good characters here, but I'm wondering how folks would like to handle such things.
<_< ... Asking for a friend.

Willshaper |

1. years been with the group?
All seven, a short time really for Llanofiss
2. do you want to be associated with any of the prisoners from previous run in?
Llanofiss doesn't associate knowingly with criminals like that.
3. have you been to Renvargo before?
Yes, its okay as far as human settlements go.
4. did you have a short relationship with Crissa?
Yes please, no commitment just free love.
No issues with some people going a bit off alignment, we all make mistakes and/or have off days, our characters are no exception.

Johannes Grim |

Hopefully Mott is okay. I'm going to take a stab at this so as to not delay things.
1. years been with the group? Call it five years, though we may have met the Professor and others when they were passing through and they helped us get the training we needed to become monster hunters.
2. do you want to be associated with any of the prisoners from previous run in? Not sure how to define "associated" with. If it means having once worked with the prisoners, definitely not. But anyone else who has been captured over the last five years, then I suppose we have a passing acquaintance.
3. have you been to Renvargo before? I'm thinking not, unless that's where we might have been trained in our respective disciplines.
4. did you have a short relationship with Crissa? Hans did, yes.

Grethel Grim |

Huh. That's strange. I don't think I got any notifications about updates in this discussion threat (or I did and somehow missed it). Sorry for the delay; I was celebrating my birthday yesterday, but am back now...
1. I'm fine with five years with the group. I don't see us as being that old, so probably not all seven.
2. Also agree with Hans.
3. Again, I'm happy to defer to Hans here.
4. Is Crissa interested in women? If so, Grethel might have experimented (after all, if something's good enough for Hans...); it probably wouldn't have lasted very long as Grethel's not really good at relationships (they lead to you getting sold to witches to be eaten, as everyone should know).
As for Hans' question, I'm fine with everything but PvP (which could be fine for me as long as it's cleared OOC) and rape (which I don't think is ever fine with me from a PC). Other murderhobo stuff is part of the game, IMO. That said, while I wasn't offended, if anyone read Hell's Vengeance, that got to be a little too much for me and wouldn't be what I would call fun.
Also, I'm heading to PaizoCon this coming weekend, leaving Thursday afternoon and not getting back until Tuesday night. I don't expect to be posting in that time.

Johannes Grim |

FWIW, I have never read nor played Carrion Crown before. I am just wildly spinning and speculating here. While I'd love it if I'm hitting somewhat close to the mark, I really am just purely speculating based on what's set in front of us.
Alex: Without too many spoilers, while the party was escorting a prisoner to safety over some water in which they knew there was a shark, the PC "accidentally" (high bluff roll) let go of the bound prisoner who fell into the water and was eaten by the shark.

Alexandria Minerva Paradine |

That is actually rather tame compared to what I was speculating. Though I could see how it could upset a PC of Lawful Alignment. (Assuming they made the Bluff check)

Johannes Grim |

There was a combination of alignment conflicts (LG paladin, very good cleric of Sarenrae) and conflicting in-character goals for what should happen with the prisoner. I wonder if maybe one of the issues had been that if we'd discussed it OOC in advance something that satisfied all the characters could have been scripted. (Plus the obvious concern about how often should the very good folks be expected to have their characters exist in ignorance.)

Johannes Grim |

Damn...
OOC, I'm convinced these buggers are escaping that cage somehow...and I'm not sure Hans is going to survive. But that's not going to stop IC Hans from trying to goad them into letting him shoot them.

Alexandria Minerva Paradine |

There are a few stories of how that could go wrong. We once lost half a party due to someone playing with fire.
Also, never cast firebolts into clouds of flammable gas...

Johannes Grim |

Assuming you like the people in the cloud of flammable gas....that would be bad. Assuming.
<_<
