Sharn - City of Towers - 998 YK - the Eighth Day of Dravago - The Two Year Anniversary of the Treaty of Thronehold - Dorasharn Tower - The Rat's Market
As the crowds of humans, goblins, and ratfolk bargain back and forth deep in the undercity of Sharn, the two groups of outsiders sense a tension none others can. Both suspect the other has come for the same thing they have.
Ama, the only person who knows all of the members of both groups, though none among either of them very well, makes the first move...
Gauntlet of Sharn
Gauntlet follows slowly, his hands empty to show he means no harm for now, but can't help feeling protective of the young woman too. So he looks closely at the 'others' and hopes thing do not degenerate into chaos and combat.

Ama Freewater
It was difficult to not be a bit apprehensive about what she was doing, given that she was in an unfamiliar place and in a situation that had the potential to be hostile. Still, she hooked a thumb into the strap of the pack on her back and made her way through the throng to the group that she had met earlier that day. The nod from one of the others made her feel a little better, and she moved with a bit more confidence, stopping several steps away. "...It appears that there is some overlap", she began with an intrigued look on her face.
Dharakk
Dharakk watched the other group approach and his hand moved of its own volition toward the haft of his great axe. The half orc turns his head to the side and spits waiting to see if the other group wants to fight or talk.

Guess its talk for now, Dharakk concluded as he heard Ama's words. "A little. Is it going to be a problem?" The half orc growled at the girl.

Taryn d'Lyrandar
Taryn, a broad-shouldered, well-muscled man with the pointed ears and angular face of an elf, watches cautiously as the group of strangers sizes them up. After saying something to his companion while still too far off to hear, he lowers his large hammer and nods in an almost friendly way towards Ama.

Guess its talk for now, Dharakk concluded as he heard Ama's words. "A little. Is it going to be a problem?" The half orc growled at the girl.
Seeing his hand move towards his weapon, and the space between them, still, Ama felt reasonably confident enough to raise an eyebrow at his reflexive gesture towards his weapon. "Doubtful", she said with a bit of a shrug. "They don't seem to be after what you all are after, so everyone can relax a bit. There is a bit of curiosity in that their employer seems to be the same house, though. Does that seem like something that would be done?"
That was the one thing that did not quite make sense to Ama. For the sake of accounting— or at least it would make keeping track of the numbers easier— hiring two groups to do related things to the point where they were heading in the same direction seemed like a simple oversight that should not be. She looked at the faces of the others as she mentioned that, to see if there was any particular reaction. While she cared little for whatever they were after, if the house was this poorly organized, she might have a job to pitch to them.

He' a big one, Dharakk thought as he eyed the Minotaur. "Step back cow-man I'm talking to the girl," he retorted belligerently.

Keeping his eye on the large Minotaur Dharak replied to Ama with a shrug of his shoulders, "Who can explain the way these House Lords think. Always scheming trying to improve their position in their house even if they have to climb over the copses of the own house members." Still glaring at the Minotaur he asks, "Anything else on your mind?"
Erix d'Orien
A young looking man, wearing a wide brim hat(like the avatar pic), and with a vicious looking whip looped at his side, walks over and stands near Ama. The beginnings of the Mark of Passage can be seen around his neckline. "Now, now, no need to be rude. We're just here to talk."

Sharn - City of Towers - 998 YK - the Eighth Day of Dravago - The Two Year Anniversary of the Treaty of Thronehold - [ooc]Dorasharn Tower - The Rat's Market
Rission looks thoughtful, "Perhaps for now we should work together to accomplish this task. Then we can call a meeting and let our employers' decide between them who will claim the credit for their house".
Gauntlet of Sharn
"Who can explain the way these House Lords think. Always scheming trying to improve their position in their house even if they have to climb over the copses of the own house members."
Speaking in spite of himself, Gauntlet nods enthusiastically at the Half-Orc's comment. His voice is the same near-monotone his friends have gotten used to, but Gauntlet suddenly fears it may put off these new people.
"You have no idea how correct you are my fellow citizen. The Houses all have their own agendas, but Cannith has so many almost-independent enclaves scattered around, it is difficult for them not to sometimes have competing goals. Some would say they can be their own worst enemy."
Seeing a few stares at his interruption, Gauntlet bows his unusually forge-helmeted head, thus also bobbing the unusual symbol on his forehead: It easily resembles a four-fingered gauntlet. Further inspection shows his unusual heavy armored lines and admantine body, and nearly skeletal face. Strangely, no major weapon appears on his belt however, despite his obvious defensive capabilities. A most unusual warforged most everyone is certain of.
"Apologies. I spoke out of turn. I am called Gauntlet...for obvious reasons I think."

Taryn lets out half a chuckle for no apparent reason. "If we are all headed into the same danger it makes more sense to fight it together than to add it to a party of adversaries... as long as Ama is truthful about seeking different goals- if you try to take that which we seek we'll have no choice but to consider you enemies."

The Warforged standing just behind Taryn gives a slight nod in agreement. Though Rission standing beside Taryn gives a slight frown.
The Wargorged then approaches Gauntlet, "Tell me Brother, have you ever been approached by this Lord of Blades?"

Negotiating with Shekan the Goblin
Carduus digs into his knapsack and amidst the bandages, torches, and other sundries he manages to find five gold coins. Closing the bag, he eyes the goblin and the crowd warily... Last thing I need is some balloon-headed gobber decidin' I'm a good mark. Least it looks like the elf and the orc have things in hand - they haven't been et by that minotaur yet... then shows the coins to Shekan on the palm of his psoriatic hand.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

The Goblins eyes gleam at Carduus's now closed hand.
He abruptly yelps out and eyes the crowd who stop speaking, "Market closed for a small tour of the warrens. Patiently you all wait until mines return!"
That said, he closes up his blanket of wares and throws it over his back like a demented little santa claus. Switching to common he tells Carduus, "You follow me, I show you the way!"
Though Shekan has packed up, other vendors begin t set up shop, albeit with many less wares then your new Goblin contact.
Assuming both groups follow.
The Goblin leads you though more tunnels which appear to slope downwards. The farther down you go, the stronger the pungent odor becomes. After several twists and turns all of which seem to lead to dead ends Shekan finally stops.
With one hand he reaches towards Carduus for his payment. With the other...
Carduus the Bemourned
Carduus approaches the two parties, the excited goblin in tow. The man's face is wrapped in bandages dirty from the grit and grime of city living - obviously not a fresh dressing, one can catch glimpses of sickly flesh beneath. His chain shirt and buckler look of modest, but serviceable, quality; the only other thing he carries is a sturdy knapsack slung across his chest from his left shoulder.
"Assumin' we're not gonna kill each other here 'n now, this fella knows the way down to where we're headed," he grates. "If you don't trust the word of a Rat Market merchant, you're welcome to stay here." He nods to the goblin, and turns to follow the diminutive guide, looking to his companions to accompany him.
And here I was worried that minotaur might be smaller up close.

We will be in THAT thread now for the duration of this story arc!

Sorry for the long absence, end of the month got a little hectic there. The middle of next week will probably be spotty for me as well, as I'll be traveling.

No worries just glad you are still here!

I PM'ed Beylinda, think her Player might not have realized that we move to this thread temporarily.

As we are two groups in one I will Bot those who are not able to respond within a 72 hour window. :-)
1 down 11 to go?
the Dragon Between
Good question.
Post (when you can) your actions in a spoiler and I will resolve in a run down at the end of each round.
The danger here is that if you say I choose to attack enemy B and someone else kills enemy B then I would have to assume an action for you, which is why I don't normally like to do things that way.
So maybe Primary action and a possible secondary in case the primary is moot based on what took place before your turn.
Sound good? :-)
the Dragon Between
It looks like foe 3 is up... if you take its action then a bunch of us could make informed actions...
Also- does this still count as urban terrain?
Done!
Yes.

I hit up Dharakk as he has not posted in a while. If we don't hear from him by tomorrow I will bot him.
the Dragon Between
No word from Dharakk. I'll just DMPC him for now as Christmas is over and it's time to get this rolling again.
