Here is Alt submission for Akvius Syrthos. Human 2-weapon rogue. He starts at lvl 1 as fighter, then goes rogue (knife master) after. He's dex based vs str.

not currently complete as this character has been submitted for several APs. I will adjust details to fit specific guidelines, if accepted

Here are a few traits you asked for in original post:

Background:
Flamboyant - enjoys spending on and giving wealth to those who are less fortunate than him. Enjoys showing off his "skills"

Defiant - after short term in military, he doesn't trust authority. Will act in accordance with what HE believes is right, which doesn't always fall into "law abiding". Follows a Robin Hood mentality of "take from the rich and give to the poor".

Friendly - generally easy going, friendly and helpful to everyone, especially those who have sacrificed for him, the honest lower and middle classes.

Obviously if one of these 2 are chosen, you can disregard the other. I figured the choice would depend on the other characters that are accepted. Thank you again for your consideration

What's the ruling on Clerics, favored weapons and how strict domain selection is?

I'd like Sun & Travel (exploration) domains, which one would think go together like oreos and milk. Thinking Gold or Shield Dwarf.

This is Yossarin's submission for a "Blackguard" (Magus, Bladebound archetype).

Background:
Per sensible instructions I have not invested a whole lot of thought into the particular details of the background, but I did a bit of investigation into the FR timeline and history and came up with a "likely story" for the time being, with some details left wide open for you to assist in.

Innocent was orphaned at birth and became a child of Yûlash. "Abandoned" might be a good way, but you could always invent something if necessary. There is no grim tragedy behind his parents, and he never knew them. Instead he was a ward of the city and his clever but kindly caretakers bindered (FRspeak for "christened" in my imagination) him Innocent. Which came to be something of a curse for him because he was anything but. He grew up as a cunning bully of a child, and this made him a shoo-in as a foot soldier in the Zhentarim, and when he was of the age that he could use a sword he was impressed into Bane's Black March.

S+#* got really weird when Manshoon started taking over. Little cults forming within the Zhentarim. The organization splintering and becoming fractious and full of strange arcane phenomenon brought about by their new leadership. I imagine he may have been a part of a small special forces group who were forced into making a pact with SOMETHING unsavory that gave them powers (magus abilities) in exchange for their soul. This is why I chose the Bladebound archetype, which I normally would not play but it seems to open up a huge avenue for this concept. At 3rd level the Bladebound archetype comes into contact with a powerful and apparently wicked type of weapon that has its own ego/animus that sometimes may be in disagreement with the wielder. It may be the key to understanding exactly what it was he and the select others entered into a pact with.

Innocent is now a deserter from the Zhentarim. The events of the few years leading up to 1358 seem to fit perfectly into the PC's motivation. In 1355, Manshoon's betrayal occurred at the Citadel of the Raven and several non-Zhents in Zhentil Keep were slaughtered. Innocent did much of the killing. Melvaunt gets involved and tries hard to restore order to the area but the Zhentarim oppose and outmaneuver. In that same year, Melvaunt sends troops from Hillsfar to occupy Yûlash in defiance of the Zhentarim establishment.

In 1357, Manshoon orders the Zhentarim to march upon Yûlash and retake control. Innocent was part of that march to restore order, but it was a bloodbath. Not only did his superiors have them slaughter the troops from Hillsfar and drive them out, but in the immediate aftermath they were formed into extermination squads to root out a vast majority of the native populace and publicly execute them to instill a bold and lasting fear of further rebellion. Innocent did not flee at this point. He remained a dutiful soldier, killing many of the people he grew up with. It wasn't until afterwards that the guilt descended upon him and, in a split decision, he bolted, leaving the entire area behind. Depending upon how important that pact was and how critical a role he may have played in some plans, it is possible he is wanted and may even have other members of his little cabal who also took the pact hunting him down, but that's up to you.

Now he finds himself where our game begins, ideally in the company of a good-aligned cleric or religious sort with whom he is on the long and difficult road of atonment. His is a special case because he has given over his soul in a pact as a blackguard and thus his path to atonement is not something that can be handwaved with a casting of the Atonement spell, for example. As a faith, he still strongly believes in Banite principles. His motto being that people have two choices in life: to fear, or to be feared. And the Tyrant encourages and empowers one to be feared rather than to live in fear. Thus I hope I can introduce a PC who subscribes to the doctrine of an evil deity, even though he is on the path to redemption, and does so from a moralistic and reasonable approach.

Just ask if you feel you need more details, but I am trying to keep the background details open for manipulation as the party makeup and adventure warrant.

@ DM Locke: I've finished adjusting Manzuqari's profile and stats. I hope I got the maths right for all that.

I think my background story is plausible. And reflects my own lack of knowledge, as a player, about Forgotten Realms.

Thanks!

Early Life of Manzuqari:

The few memories Manzuqari has of his childhood are dream like memories of a slave market in the fabled Efreeti City of Brass in the Plane of Fire. He was found as a youth, who scarcely knew his own name, by one of the many Raiding bands of the Calim desert.

Led by Azeefa the bard, the band took Manzuqari as one of their own. With tutelage from Azeefa, Manzuqari learnt to stir himself and his companions to greater deeds of strength and vigour. the frequent clashes to be had in the desert gave Manzuqari a natural outlet for his impulsive and brash behaviour.

Several years ago, the he authorities of Calimshan began another vigorous campaign to stamp out the raiding bands in and around the Calim Desert. Manzuqari was the only member of his band who escaped death or capture. He eventually worked his way North into Tethyr. He long ago tired of eking out a living as travelling performer.

As restless as a flame seeking fuel, Manzuqari seeks friends, glory, and adventure.

There's a lot of stiff competition here!

@Djack - OMG I am so super strict about favored weapons and domains! You'd better get them right, mister!

Just kidding, do what feels right, while at least keeping a little to the established Dwarven pantheon :-)

I've reserved another spot in the party for a player from a previous game. Based on the number of quality submissions, I'm thinking of increasing the party to seven members, with three of those spots up for grabs. Anyone who has played with me previously can attest that I run combats - even very large ones - quickly and efficiently, and with lovely, detailed maps :-) A party of seven will require a bit more work to make sure everyone gets plenty of attention - as well as making sure the combats are challenging enough.

I'm also counting upon everyone selected to really put some time and thought into their posts. I don't ask for a novella every time out, but making sure you include a roleplaying description with your rolls, telling us how your character reacts, starting conversations with npc's and other characters - these are all great things that I'm looking forward to.

Submissions are still open! Till this friday, the 27th :-)

I'm definitely interested in a Forgotten Realms game. Here is my submission. Castien is a bladebound, spell dancer magus. The current confirmed roster seems to leave an opening for a frontliner type and the only arcane is a slower advancement, so another arcane type could only help. You should easily discover four traits and some motivation in the included background.

I see you've been pressing the cleric role very hard, but it looks like you confirmed one for the party. If you still want one more, I have an idea for an Halruaan wizard/cleric of Azuth going into Mystic Theurge (yes, that poor mangy dog of a prestige class) that I would be happy to work up.

How many people are you taking total? I had thought 6, with 2 reserve, but I see 4 reserve, so it looks like 2 more people?

He is thinking of going for seven people total, so if that pans out, I suppose he is looking for three more people.

F. Castor is correct - there are currently three open slots.

OMG I forgot an important house rule! Perception is a class skill for EVERYONE. Repeat: perception is a class skill for all classes. Apologies for forgetting to mention this important fact earlier.

Oh, that's a really nice houserule. Thanks! Looks like Trystt gets another trait. =)

I guess priestly covers Cleric. Have fun, folks!

Aballar has a new face. Just don't call me Valeros. He wouldn't last a minute in the Realms.

i've been stalking the thread since my submission is complete, but don't think i'm not paying attention and checking this 4-5 times a day. cause i am, i want to play in this group very much and i really like my character concept. ^_^

heh. Valeros has the DR50/- Plot armor mythic feat.

@DM Locke: perception is a good thing! I always try to make sure my characters have maximum skill points in that one!

I need to do the math on the skills, and I'll probably wind up changing his face, and definitely fleshing out his background more, once we've had a chance to chat a little about specifics, but here he is for now:

Ulciscor, Aasimar cleric of Hoar - the Doombringer.

(Pronounced Uhl-kiss-kore).

@DM Locke: does worship play a large part in the campaign?

If so, would the most logical choice for this skald would be Kossuth? I get the impression Kossuth doesn't demand much zealous devotion from his worshippers. That would suit Manzuqari just fine, as I envision him.

Thanks.

Dotting - I'm a long time fan of the Realms, from the Azure Bonds days :) I recently built a fun rogue (I know, right?) character for another campaign - I'll adapt him and get him up shortly :)

Let me just leave this celestial-blooded moon elf noble here for you and I will be back with a bit of concept info.

Isandril Velahrn

The next three days I'll be in an intensive training for work, so I might not respond quickly to questions during the day. Rest assured, I will be checking periodically and replying in the evening.

@ Manzuqari: worship, and whom you worship, will definitely be playing a role here. Kossuth is a good choice, though his religion doesn't have the best of reputations. A splinter group that worships Amaunator might also be a possibility.

@DM Locke: Thanks for that. I'll have a closer look at those two. I just want to make sure I don't pick a deity that's totally contrary to my character. How devout he is, or isn't, will be another matter, I'm sure.

I could use a little help regarding Isandril's birthplace. I have looked into the Forgotten Realms wiki, but being up to date with current events, it makes it a little difficult to find out how things were in the time this campaign is taking place. And the whole eladrin and elf differentiation thing makes it even trickier.

Anyway, the following is the character concept, more or less.

Isandril stands five feet and ten inches tall, slender and athletic, and moves with the grace that is characteristic of his people. Handsome with fair skin and silvery gold hair that reaches down to his shoulders, his eyes are nevertheless his most prominent feature; although not unheard of, they are uncommon even for one of his race, for they are a vibrant violet color with what can best be described as golden flecks speckled through them. He has a preference for comfortable fitted clothing of good craftsmanship and elven design, more often than not complemented with a cloak fastened in place with an ornate brooch of clearly dwarven make, and he is almost never seen without his elven rapier, resting in its scabbard next to his left hip. Other than that, he usually also keeps three daggers on his person, divided between the small of his back and his pair of dwarven-made wrist sheaths, while his armor of choice is a suit of studded leather of fine elven make.

Isandril is a member of House Velahrn, a moon elven noble House whose characteristic is that celestial blood, however little, courses through its members' veins, occasionally resulting in the birth of an elven aasimar, such as Isandril himself. Being moon elves, they are quite a bit more tolerant and friendlier towards the other shorter-lived races and that holds especially true for those members of the House with azata blood, who are also more adventurous and prone to wanderlust. Though proud of their heritage, both elven and celestial, a trait Isandril shares and sometimes to the point of over-confidence as far as his skill and abilities are concerned, they are not quite as arrogant or self-important as others of their kind, especially when compared with their cousins, the sun elves. His mother, Ellisara, a sun elven wizardess, appears to be an exception, at least up to a point; although not as friendly to non-elves as her moon elven husband and his kin, she has had her more traditional views and haughtiness tempered by centuries of being married into a House with a more... relaxed view of how the world is.

Thus, they do count more than a few humans and dwarves among their friends or associates, a good example of the latter being the Flintforge Clan in general and Darrak Flintforge in particular, a dwarven smith, engineer and merchant. A good friend of Calendil, Isandril's father, the gray-bearded dwarf has taken quite a liking to his son, whom he tends to call Sand, a moniker that has stuck with other human and dwarven friends of the elven House. As tokens of his fondness for the younger elf, Darrak has even gifted him with an ornate brooch of dwarven design, which he uses as a clasp to fasten his cloak, and a pair of spring loaded wrist sheaths, each of which holds a dagger ready to be released in his grasp at a moment's notice thanks to the ingenuity of dwarven engineering.

It is that friendship with the older dwarf that brings him to Leilon, as Darrak has some business in the small mining town and Sand was only too happy to accompany him, the somewhat easily bored and adventurous elf almost jumping at the opportunity to travel away from his birthplace, an opportunity that does not appear as often as he would like.

With the exception of... ahem... certain geographical information concerning his place of origin (perhaps Evereska...?), I think this is it more or less. I am of course happy to elaborate further or answer any questions you may have about him.

@Manzuqari: In almost any resource that you find regarding the Realms and religion, you'll find this little snippet:

FR Wiki wrote:
Religion plays a large part in the Forgotten Realms, with deities and their followers being an integral part of the world. They do not have a passive role, but in fact interact directly in mortal affairs, answer prayers, and have their own personal agendas. All deities must have worshipers to survive, and all mortals must worship a patron deity to secure a good afterlife. A huge number of diverse deities exist within several polytheistic pantheons; a large number of supplements have documented many of them, some in more detail than others.

I think it's best laid out in the 3rd edition FRCS, however (I'll paraphrase):

"Everyone in Faerun knows that those who die without having a patron deity to escort them to their proper judgement in the land of the dead spend eternity writhing in the Wall of the Faithless, or disappear into the hells of the devils, or the infernos of the demons."

The selection of a patron deity doesn't mean that your character only worships or makes prayers or offerings to that one deity. Faerun is a polythestic world, and at appropriate moments, characters might worship or pay homage to nearly all the deities - even some they would not (or could not) choose as patron deities. As an example, LG sailors would never think of choosing Umberlee (evil goddess of the oceans) as their patron, but most sailors will have sacrificed to Umberlee at least once before a long journey, or prayed for her mercy during a storm. Likewise, an evil follower of Mask (god of thieves), might make an offering at the shrine of Tymora (good goddess of luck) before a big heist.

That said, there are many good reasons for choosing a patron deity (even aside from avoiding eternal torment as a Faithless). Having a patron deity can give you contacts in the world - particularly if you're well known for your service to said deity. Servants of Helm, for example, are more likely to get assistance (healing, access to other spells, places to stay, etc.) from the church of Helm in times of need. A bard who worships Tymora might have a better chance of convincing a group of Tymora-worshiping bandits to talk peacefully (and perhaps accept a "toll for using their road") instead of fighting.

Of more concern to many adventurers, is the fact that a character who dies without a patron deity cannot be raised from the dead by any mortal means, short of a miracle or wish spell.

Having a patron deity implies some true personal attachment to that deity. Given this relationship, it is practically unheard of for a character to have a patron deity with a radically different alignment from their own. For example, it is essentially impossible for a CG rogue to feel a close personal connection to Bane, the LE god of tyranny and fear.

When choosing a patron for Divine Spellcasters, you follow the "one step" rule - your alignment can be only "one step" away from your patron deity's (e.g. A CN Ranger could choose Malar (CE) as a patron god, but couldn't choose Mielikki (NG)). The "one step" rule isn't required for other classes, but typically is a good rule of thumb.

You can only have one patron deity at a time. You can change it, but that's not a decision made lightly or easily. If you're a Divine class, changing your patron deity is very difficult, and often involves the loss of some class features for a while. It requires the intervention of your new church. If you're any other character class, it's a bit simpler. The new church doesn't HAVE TO be involved (though it's customary to have a blessing ceremony to show your new allegiance), for example. A character who changes patrons frequently is likely to gain a reputation for being weak in her faith, and risks being branded as one of the False in the afterlife (this is a Bad Thing).

So, while our DM is certainly free to tweak (or wholly ignore) the above, this is how the Folk of the Realms look at religion and patron deities, or at least, the way they do in a "typical" Realms campaign.

@Ulciscor: thanks for that. I've done a cut and paste of it to look over once the caffeine's kicked in this morning. Looks pretty straight forward, though.

A moon elf noble would probably be from Evereska or maybe Silverymoon, if you're feeling egalitarian. He could be from Evermeet, but they're kind of sun elf snobs there.

Evereska it is then. Thank you my good ma... err, half-o... ahem, sir.

F. Castor wrote:

Ulciscor is not the kind of person who would chuckle at, nor point out that you just called him your good "half 'o' sir."

But his player is not not that kinda guy. ;-)

Thanks to those who stood up and answered questions for your fellows in this thread - well done!

Submissions are slowing considerably so tomorrow will be the last day I'll be accepting them. Choices will be made on Friday and play should begin Monday, March 2nd.

Cool. Looking forward to it.

Ditto. And good news about the Perception, I was worried about that one and glad I can make a little change there.

@DM Locke and Ulciscor: Thanks for the advice on religion and such. I'll probably stick with Kossuth. as a patron god, should I be one of the finalists.

It's a thematic choice. Besides, the back story I gave him has him starting out in the world leading a less than sterling life. That and the fact Amaunator seems too stodgy (read: level-headed and predictable) for the patron god of an Ifrit (who have a strong tendency to be impulsive, of course).

-----

But anyway... good luck in the final selection, all!

Ha! Good catch. Not done on purpose, but there are only so many ways one can say only part of the word "orc". Still funny though. I may even use it if introduced to Kevkas in game, if selected to participate of course. :-)

Good morning everyone,

No new submissions to add to the list today. As I stated before, today will be the last day I'll accept submissions so, if you've got one, send him or her in.

I'm in training from 0900-1800 again today (and tomorrow) but will watch the thread as best I can. Have a good day!

my pc's parts arrived today, will be installing it tonight. then hopefully by tomorrow i have a working pc again, then i can catch up properly in all my games and all the ones i applied for :P

Funnily enough, Kev has the diplomacy skills to just let that kind of thing go without comment. Good thing he's not a raging barbarian. Having a half-orc face is a little weird, but that's what you get when you do a Cha based class with a half-orc.

I've been enjoying the chance to trot out my long outdated Forgotten Realms knowledge. :)

Now I just need to find a Spelljammer game and my early 90s gaming experience can really get some use.

I would LOL to the ends of the earth if this were secretly a Spelljammer game and Locke pulls a bait 'n switch on us. :)

Innocent of Yûlash wrote:

I would be sooo happy if this turned into Expedition to Barrier Peaks and ended up with us on a spelljammer flying up into Realmspace. :)

Before I started playing Pathfinder APs I liked to do that to my players, like dumping an Eberron Red Hand of Doom party into the Mists to end up in the beginning of Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. Warforged vs zombies and werewolves; fun stuff.

It's not a spelljammer game :-P But I won't deny that I've a copy of the technology guide sitting at home, as well as the first Iron Gods module and a pdf of the old Barrier Peaks module. Just sayin'.

Oh no, a portal, we're playing Planescape now. Darn. DARN!

Ah, the Mists... I have to admit Strahd is one of my favorite characters.

I have *no idea* what you're talking about....

*ahem* Whistles, innocently...

Well, I guess my character has one advantage in this world: he knows (almost) nothing about the Forgotten Realms. As do I. So, there's no metagaming high hopes for me!

He's kind of like a certain porter from Barcelona working in a small British inn: "I know nothing! I read it in a book!" With apologies to both Basil and Manuel

Funny, I was just looking at the Barrier Peaks module for the first time the other day. A friend bought a compilation book of these popular old modules and I was just casually scanning it and then when I got to that section and saw all the pictures my eyebrows went up. Friend asks me, "What?"

I say, "Is this...is this what I think it is? Is that a spaceship?"

No answer, just a grin.

F. Castor wrote:

That was my problem. I started reading 'I, Strahd' after starting the campaign and just had to hijack my own game.

I love the old 1E art. I still have my cousin's old AD&D Monster Manual and Deities & Demigods. The guys who did the illustrations for those books were lunatics. In a good way.

Just wondering how long till submissions are closed... I won't make it home to my books/pdfs for about another 6 hours, but hoping to get my offering in shortly after that.

@ littlehewy: no problem, selections will be made on Friday. You've already expressed interest in this game so any time before then, please.

Great :)

I would like to say that if you would prefer a more... traditional moon elf, I could change Isandril into one with little to no trouble. Although I rather like him as celestial-blooded, the concept would still work with a more run-of-the-mill moon elf.
