Wait... I just realized something. The Fake Vencarlo's CMD is 38. Cutting through his square with Acrobatics would add 5 to that. With my Acrobatics of +16, I wouldn't be able to make it. Even if this would count as jumping and I get my Acrobatics +21, I still wouldn't make it. The only way I can see this working is if I go to Callie's space, and flip to the space above the Fake Vencarlo on the map, and for it to count as a jump so I get +21. But there's a hard corner in my way. So, what do I do? I can't get to the other side of him.
Callie Cobalt
Oy. You could try jumping over him as a move action, but intentionally provoke an AOO. Then the DC would just be the DC of the long jump. Heck, if I could go back that's what I'd do but I've already made my rolls and action declarations.
I always share most the monster stats with my players in PBP I am GMing because it makes it go faster. Is it metagamey, a little. But it also speeds things up when otherwise combat in PBP takes too long.

Sorry about that. The fact that it was meta gaming didn’t cross my mind. Since I was planning on making the acrobatics check before I checked the stats, I will go ahead with that action to be fair with everyone.

So, we watched a tornado form on Monday which promptly side swiped our house and tore through the area dropping trees all over the place. We've been without power since Monday evening and hope to have it back sometime today, fortunately our house came through unscathed. This has caused significant issues with posting and if it doesn't come back on tonight it will be fri/sat before I can get caught up on posting.
If those of you I play in other games with me can pass it along I would appreciate it in case I miss a few.

We just got power back a little bit ago so i can finally get started catching up on games. Sadly I have multiple games with 15+posts to go through and not enough time to get them caught up in due to work tomorrow.
Sadly we still can't take a shower as our well pump conked out on us. Good thing my Sister's in-laws live nearby and we get along with them!

Happily we got our water working again while I was at work yesterday. Ah the joys of hot and cold running water!
Callie Cobalt
Yay, running water!!!!
I'll hold Callie back after this post I made earlier today. I am not good at getting her to shut up and I will try to do better, just reread the thread and realized I was putting my oar in too much. Sorry.

I'll be going to Origins this coming week so after I leave for work on Tuesday posting will be sparse/non-existent until I get back on Sunday. Please bot me as needed.
Callie Cobalt
I believe we are following along and need an update from the Norv.
Callie Cobalt
I will have limited Internet access from now through about Wednesday. If I am unable to post please bot me as needed.

I will be out of town Wed thru Sunday at GenCon this week and unable to post during that time. Please bot me as needed.

Has anyone else been tinkering with Pathfinder 2E since it came out? I've been fooling with it and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. There are things I love about it, and things I really dislike - mostly the way they tried to Spell Out Every Action that a character could take by Assigning Capital Letters to things. But those are more layout/presentation nitpicks than anything else...

I haven't checked it out. I came to Pathfinder through my rl table that had been playing 3.5. If I hear really great things I'll look into learning a new system. It took me ages to "get" this and unless something happens I'd prefer to stick with it. That said, if a table of mine ever voted to switch I'd at least try it.

I haven't checked it out yet. I'm more familiar with this system and to learn an entirely different system on top of that might make things a bit confusing. At least, that's my opinion on it.
Callie Cobalt
I am waiting for my book to come in. I was not enthused by the playtest--I found what they called "streamlined" in many senses was simply more "codified" with a lot more terms to learn. I do know they have improved it majorly since the playtest (indeed, what playtests are for), but I expect even if there are changes I like, I have a sense the system is different enough it would take a lot of gear shifting to learn it, and I just don't have the time for that (what energy I have in that arena has been devoted to Starfinder and to homebrew and I've got no room left for a new system). Indeed, I think I only learned Pathfinder so well was because it was an easy transition from 3.x and there wasn't a whole lot new to really learn, at least not all at once. My sense is shifting from P1 to P2 will not be as easy or straightforward, and is intended more for newcomers entirely to Pathfinder.
Further, most of my RL friends struggle these days to find time to game together at all, and they are not going to try to learn a new system atop all that, so there's little incentive to learn. In 2008, all of us were actively playing in multiple groups and because we were playing 3.x there was strong incentive to switch to PF because it was just a better version of 3.x. In 2019 none of us are playing any d20 groups together (the only RPG I'm playing "live" is Fantasy Flight's Star Wars, which is a very easy system). I may join a PBP if one comes along and get a sense of how it feels from there. I give myself permission to change my mind, but TL;DR I just don't have the time, energy, or incentive to learn the new system.

I think a lot of the changes of 2e are good ones, and a lot of Starfinder's influence can be seen, but some of the changes are just baffling to me.
It kind of weirds me out how race/ancestries work now. In 1e if I play a dwarf I have my dwarf traits independent of whatever class I'm playing. But now, I have to take Dwarf Feats to learn how to be a dwarf. Wanna resist spells *and* poisons? Better be at least 7th level! That's very odd.
My FLGS is hosting a "build a character" event on Mondays and Fridays, I'm going to go to that and make a paladin and see what I think.
The Norv
Fair feelings, all! I'm becoming more and more interested in game systems/design, so I've found the rollout fascinating.
I agree that the ancestry system is a little odd...it does seem like they've put most of those "biological" things into the "heritages" now, which isn't necessarily bad (keeps you from "learning" things like a natural resistance to poison), but definitely odd. I've also seen the criticism that the rules only let you play into the stereotypes of your ancestry, which is...fair, but probably more of an "amount of material" issue than anything. It's not like the PF1 CRB had mechanical options for playing a dwarf against type.
I am glad to see weapon proficiencies tied to heritage go entirely optional. The half-orc ones never made any damn sense to me as a universal thing for all half-orcs. (Heck, it doesn't make sense for any heritage, but at least with, say, elves, there's canonically whole societies/nations of elves that would logically share a cultural preference for similar weapons.)

I haven't, and he is also in another game of mine. Right now I am assuming moving and other things are causing issues, but I hope he will check in soon. I think I have his email address and I'll drop him a line if we don't hear from him in a bit.
Callie Cobalt
Hey folks, I just checked the dates and realized Norv's not checked in at least six weeks. I emailed him--later than I said I would (just earlier this week in fact; I couldn't find his email address for awhile)--and have not yet heard back from him.
I really hope he is okay, and that the issue is simply something like having unreliable internet since moving. This is unlike him. If it's something more emergent I hope it resolves as well as it can.
But I think we need to think about what we are going to do if he does not return. Do we want to give up on the game? Do we want to find a GM? Would one of us be willing to GM instead? I do have the CoCT Anniversary Edition book, though I've not read it much since of course I didn't want to spoil myself for the game (at least not the parts I had already played through or edited)--and of course I'd have to give up playing Callie which I don't want to do, but I can consider it (I have a friend I might ask to play her for me). Anything we decide I think we can certainly hand the reins back to him/try again if he shows back up.
It would be a shame to see this game die; it went on for a good while and this party is really fun to play with.
Lantressa Darksong
It concerns me Norv isn still missing as well. I would like to see this campagin keep going myself as it's been enjoyable so far and I have fun with this character. I don't want to see you have to quite playing to run it for us if Norv doesn't return but it's far easier to get someone to step up and become GM in the game and recruit a new player than hunt for a replacement GM.
I like Callie and think she's a fun foil to Lantressa, particularly since they don't entirely get along. Heck Tressa still hasn't realized you stole all her money on entrance to the game.
Korriban Balros
Yeah. I am rather concerned with Norv's disappearance. I hope that everything is okay with him.
I really don't want to see this game die since I've been here since the beginning. And I have been having a great time playing Korriban. In regards to a new GM, I have had thoughts and ideas about running my own CotCT campaign (with some changes and additions here and there). However, I would want my planned game to start from the very beginning, I'm still planning things, and it would be my first time GMing. So I wouldn't be a good choice for this game. Unless everyone wants to create new aliases for their characters and start over.
Lantressa Darksong
It's up to all of you, I'm realistically good whatever, and I do have other character concepts still stockpiled I'd like to try out.
