So, they cooked his stuff, too?

I guess so - after he'd been dismembered, distinguishing between 'him' and 'his stuff' was probably just too difficult...

OK, you have 2 options: stairway up, or secret door across.

Decide.

Secret door! Secret door!

^ Yeas! Always the secret door! What could go wrong?

Sorry if the description wasn't clear: you're on the balcony, looking down at 2-1 far below. You don't need to fly to reach it - but it's a way in from the outside for someone who can fly. They just can't climb the outside stairs to get in the way they could get in to 2-1 and 1-1.

Hope that clears it up. The map link should help (a picture's worth a thousand words, after all).

Actually, there've been several statues/bas-reliefs of Vetra-Kali; he looks something like this.

BTW, the key is part of the statue, not an actual key; unless you want to break it off the statue?

Tatienne: nice idea, but I'm going to say that your skeletal bird cannot speak unless there's a rule I'm not aware of that says it can.

DMD, Edgar's a raven, which per the familiar page, can speak one language of the master's choice (Taldane) as a supernatural ability. However, I'm fine if Edgar's undead state precludes this as an option. A changeable stat boost plus scout/touch attack machine/sneak thief is plenty powerful as is.

I don't think Edgar would have the strength to break the key off the statue.

Oh, got it! I had forgot we had seen other images of him.

OK, bored now. Hint below if you want it.

Handy hint:

This:

Felrin Vennax wrote:
"Well, know we know what the words are for," he comments, his eyes moving to look at the secret door that has so challenged Tkaara, "which means they don't open the door. "

is exactly the sort of reasoning I'd expect from a listed Int of 8.

If you still need another hint:

DM Darkness wrote:
On examination, it's the same mechanism that Felrin encountered previously: push the three eyes of the statue to open the door. Daemons are not known for creativity, after all. Rather the reverse.

Got it!
And anyway, that's a lot of money! Like I said in gameplay, however, I have the suspicion that a lot of those are going to be used to get the horn back in working conditions, so I propose that we wait to split it until we got an estimate of the work required to make the building at least decent.
For the magic item loot, does anyone else want the Acid Metamagic Rod?

Yep, we'll be buying some stuff at least for the golem, and Taty will want some gold set aside for animating the dead (and to appoint her bedroom in the manner that she is accustomed).

Etna Agnes wrote:

As far as I'm concerned, go for it! I'll probably be grabbing craft rods at 9th level, so if there's other things that the casters want and we have the time, think about it.

Who's our tracker? He/she should probably get the lens of detection. Who's our main face/normal person in polite society? He/she should probably get the ring.

@DMD: what does a control amulet do?

Tkaara, Etna and Felrin are all about even with each other in terms of Bluff, they're both better at Diplomacy. Another question is who has a means of shielding their alignment - Felrin can use his scrolls of undetectable alignment, but only if he's got some reason he thinks he'll need to.

I think that the ring of Mind Shielding could be something that we pass around by the situation: me and Tkaara are both face characters, and both of us ping like a Christmas tree on Detect Evil radars.

About raising undead, I think it's a very good idea to have some as guards/laborers! Though, I think that between them and the Boggards we'd still need some human(oid) guard, too.

You have The Bound Flame, remember - they're still in Week One of their existence; I'll synch everything up at some point...

I've consolidated the map of the upper and lower levels into a single document - the link is at the top of the page.

Hhhm, it looks like the spiral staircase exits right in the middle of the room: where do we and Tkaara have to stop because we can't go further?
This is going to be difficult to explain IC. :P

Ok, let's do it the traditional way and say that you can't cross the threshold into the room, which would suggest you can get to the very top of the stairs, but no further.

I'd like to come back in the morning geared (and spelled) up and ready to storm the elemental, swat-style. But if you all want to attack immediately, I can contribute. Tomorrow though, I'll change out some mental focus to allow more evocations, which will probably be the most useful thing I can provide to a fight against an elemental.

Taty will summon the Templar as well, though he won't be able to enter the room. If Etna or Tkarra spill that they can't enter, Taty would put those points into evocation-related things.

I think we're going to leave quietly without upsetting the giant ball of thunder, get a rest, and come back to kill the elemental. Once that's done, we can start planning on how to fix the horn.

Male Human

Hmm... Considering the whole metal armor thing of the lightning beastie, I am guessing Erevan will be entering the fight without his decidedly metallic mithral chainmail.

(Still without computer, just at work which has one, albeit a rather slow one...)

LN Female Half-elf (Chelaxian) Bard (Archaeologist) 9 | HP: 66/66 | AC: 21/23 (w/shield) ( 12 Tch, 19 Ff) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F:+5 R:+9 (+3 vs traps) W:+7 (+2 vs. enchantments) | Init: +2 | Perc: +20; SM: +0 | Speed 30 ft | Spells: 1st: 4/6 2nd: 3/5 3rd: 1/3| Performance: 9/16 | Active conditions: AL 2/3, Alter self 9 minutes (darkvision 60', swim 30', +2 size bonus to Str), haste 9/9 rounds (+1 attack, +1 AC)

I've got 6 total buffs to hand out before this fight in a combination of the following:

bane: 1 minute duration

enlarge/reduce: 8 round duration

Who wants a bane and/or enlarge? If I buff each of the melee types with one each, it should probably go like this, assuming we:

bane #1 (5 rounds duration at beginning of fight)
bane #2 (6 rounds)
bane #3 (7 rounds)
enlarge (6 rounds)
enlarge (7 rounds)
enlarge (8 rounds)

Round 1 buff: bane (10)
Round 2 buff: bane (10), bane (9)
Round 3 buff: bane 10, bane 9, bane 8
Round 4 buff: enlarge 8, bane 9, bane 8, bane 7
Round 5 buff: enlarge 8, enlarge 7, bane 8, bane 7, bane 6
Round 6 buff: enlarge 8, enlarge 7, enlarge 6, bane 7, bane 6, bane 5

Melee types would storm the room on round 6, Taty would enter the following round.

Shadow Lodge

Female Vampire(neophyte) Oracle(Heavens mystery)/7 - [HP 91/91); AC28,T17,FF22; F+9,R+10,W+8; Per+15; Init +11]

Tkaara cannot enter, but she can cast Shield of Faith on all those entering (+3 Deflection) - i believe we all have only +1 at present.

She also has Resist Energy (Communal). While I doubt anyone would want it, she can cast it 5 times, which would give everyone Resist 20 vs. electricity, acid, fire, cold and sonic. This is all of Tkaara's 3rd level slots. The other alternative is to just cast it once for electricity, and then see if there is anything else, and cast that as needed. This also saves some slots if the resist gets dispelled.

She will also cast Bless just before we start.

All of Tkaara's spells are 1 min/level or longer.

Male Human

May I suggest letting Erevan use Beacon of Evil instead of Tkaara casting Bless? BoE gives a +1 morale bonus to AC, attack and damage rolls and saves vs. fear of allies within a certain radius of the antipaladin.

Dark Archive

Definitely want that resistance to electricity! Other resistances are probably superfluous.

Just as before, you will get a surprise round: the elemental is busy feeding off the energies created from the silver seal and won't notice you until you attack it.

Since it seems we're pulling out all the stops on this, Felrin will do the following in this order:

Heroism (60 mins)
Alter Self (to troglodyte) (6 mins)
Invisibility (6 mins)
Divine Favor (1 min)
Channel Vigor (6 rounds, to get the effects of haste)

As an outsider, I don't believe he can use Taty's enlarge person, as much as he'd like to. Resist energy will be much appreciated!

He'll shed his metal armor and weapons downstairs, and activate judgment and bane as the fight gets going.

As a note, you all need to start finding something that bleeds, or Tkaara is going to be in a really bad mood before long. Fighting elementals and hanging out with Daemons is cool and all, but some tender young intelligent beings would be much preferred.

Casting Mage Armor on who needs it, plus Fly on Erevan and Felrin.
I don't think this elemental is going to last very much. :P

Male Human

Mage armor and shield of faith certainly sound useful, yes. As do stuff like enlarge and bane and resist energy and fly and whatnot. So, the question basically is: Who gets what? I am fine with whatever, but a quick list of who got what buff would be useful.

From Taty on the melee types:

- enlarge for either 8 or 7 rounds (the Doctor has his own longer duration enlarge up)
- bane for either 8, 7, or 6 rounds
