Tales of Power and Corruption- Warhammer 2nd Ed.

Game Master Bilbo Bang-Bang

Been looking at running a game of WFRPG 2nd ed. Just putting out some feelers to see if there are any folks looking for some grim and perilous adventure.

Definitely interested.

Sure! I really like the 2E ruleset, and would love to play in a game.

Silver Crusade

I'd be interested pending specifics.

All over it!

Funny, I've been toying with the idea of running my own 2nd ed campaign....

Scarab Sages

I would be very interested.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I want to play a peasant and die against the first hungry wolf we encounter!

J/K, let's hear specifics!

So here is what I am looking at. I have several pre-made adventures including the book for Karak Azgal for those of you looking for dwarf centered adventure. But, I can just as easily run anywhere in the Empire.

I am very player centered as a GM. I like you guys getting the most out of the experience as possible and see us as a collaborative story telling team. There will be times where I hand wave in order to maintain the flow of the story, but Warhammer is a brutal setting and death is just a fact of life even for heroes and I believe this part of the appeal.

For character creation, I like the random nature of 2nd Ed. Depending on what route you guys wanna take, I may be influenced to allow a certain career, i.e. Slayer or Rat Catcher for example.

For you guys, I want to know what sort story you like most, high adventure, horror, suspense, ect. Warhammer allows for a pretty diverse range, but always with Morr in the peripheral.

What is your favorite opponent?

Favorite Warhammer Novel?

Region in the Empire?

Aspect of Warhammer?

Speed of play? 1 a day, ect.

I recognize most of your names and anyone who wants to play WHFRPG 2nd has likely been around these boards long enough to know speed kills in PbP. If stuff happens in real life and you need to drop out for good or for a time, just let me know and either you will be sent off in a blaze of glory or stamped with question mark as you are dragged off to some unknown fate. Any time you wanna come back just do so in the ooc and we will slide you back in. I can run a right down to a one on one, but communication is key.

The only strict rule I have is players must be able to separate their in-character from the OOC.

Thoughts and questions?

I prefer the random generation as well, mostly because characters aren't all that much weaker or stronger based on bad dice rolls. I did modify the creation system a bit to make it feel like the player had more control over the randomness of the dice, though. If you'd like, I've spoilerized my additions.

Roll up your character as normal, but add two extra Fate Points to your character, along with your two rolls for Career. You now must see what sort of influence the gods have had in your character's life. You must spend at least two Fate Points on the options below, but may spend more at your discretion. No god can intercede on your character's behalf in creation more than once.

Shallya's Mercy (1 FP): Choose one primary row stat. The roll for that stat is now considered to be an 11.

Verena's Balance (1 FP): Choose two primary row stats. Swap the rolls for those two stats.

Ranald's Gamble (1 FP): Choose one primary row stat. Reroll that stat. You must accept the new roll, even if it is worse than the original roll.

Morr's Dream (1 FP): You may roll an additional time on the Career table, and add the Career generated to the list you may choose from at creation.

Sigmar's Demand (2 FP): You may choose any Career available to your race on the Career table.

I'll work up my answers to the above questions a bit later.

What is your favorite opponent?

• My favorite opponent when I played years ago were cultists.

Favorite Warhammer Novel?

• I've only read Malekith, so yeah...

Region in the Empire?

• Either Reikland or the Moot.

Aspect of Warhammer?

• I assume you mean one of the tropes, yes? Personally I like the grimdark nature, but also just some of the unique characters I've seen in the lore and at the table.

Speed of play? 1 a day, ect.

• 1/day is perfect for me.

Silver Crusade

I'm all about the randomness.

Opponent: Chaos is fun, and human opponents tend to be more interesting to me than mover overtly monstrous things.

Region: Any of the major cities would be great. For a more rural adventure, the lawlessness of the Border Princes is appealing. It's been ages since I've looked at this stuff closely, so I'd need to reacquaint myself with a lot of the fluff

Aspect: In the game itself, the randomness and low power are what makes it unique for me. I like to randomize as much of the options as possible. I feel like it does a better job of conveying the grimdarkness (my favorite aspect of the world in general) than the base game.

Speed: 1/day is fine with me, I can often manage more. I mostly GM here, so I tend to check in fairly often during the day.

Same for me, I love the random career selection, really keeps it interesting.

Novels: have to admit I haven't had the chance to read many of the novels, a couple Jotrek and Felix and stared one of the Witchhunter ones, but it was a corrupted e-book file so didn't finish.

Opponents: Love me them Ratlings :)

Region: I'm agnostic about locale. From what I've read, everywhere is rife with nasties of some sort, so adventures abound :)

Aspect: Really appreciate the fact most PCs aren't much of anything at the beginning, but you really get a sense of progression as experience is gained. And a real fan of the randomized character generation.

Speed : 1/day is just fine with me.

Random is one of the best parts of 2nd ed.

I haven't read many of the novels, but play a lot of mordheim and have a fairly good knowledge of the setting.

All the classic warhammer enemies are great. Skaven, cultists, noble schemers, orcs and goblins, beastmen.

Each region has it's own slight differences in flavour, I can work with anything really.

I love the grimdark that old school warhammer and 40k has

I can do one a day

Looking good.

As far as combat goes, I like the advanced rules, but feel the basic method is probably a better method for PbP. So using basic armor points, no hit locations, and Sudden Death Crits look like a good start. I was thinking if we want to add the other stuff later as we get a feel for the flow we can, but making sure we get the steam going first was most important.

I also like narrative combat for PbP in that we don't use maps. This can be negotiable, but it speeds up play if we can assume relative locations.

Any thoughts on that?

Sounds good to me. We don't need ton worry about positioning so much without pathfinder/3.0+ aoo, etc...

What is your favorite opponent?
- Chaos cultists. I mean, I like the viciousness of the orcs, the insidiousness of the Skaven, and so on, but cultists are humans that have allied with horrifyingly alien and malign forces that want to destroy everything. They're scary on a much more personal level than those sorts of threats.

Favorite Warhammer Novel?
- Um, is it a bad thing to admit that I haven't read any? Literally all my exposure to the Old World is through the RPG, and the few times I tried getting into a Warhammer novel I found it on the 'meh' side, and never finished.

Region in the Empire?
- I'm rather fond of Middenheim, due to the WFRP1E book that detailed that city, and the adventures that took place there. Plus, it's a city where Sigmar worship isn't nearly as strong as Ulric, a much older deity. That's an interesting dichotomy in the city.

Aspect of Warhammer?
- It's not a pretty place. Combat isn't something you try to get into - it's often a last resort, and can be incredibly dangerous to your PC. And quite often, you have to deal with the trauma caused by fighting the horrors out there. It's not hard to see why I describe WFRP as Lord of the Rings crossed with Call of Cthulhu. They're two great flavors I never knew I wanted together until I had them!

Speed of play? 1 a day, ect.
- Once a day is a good start, though my access is somewhat spotty on the weekends.

I like sudden death crits for mooks, but it seems against the setting and feel of the rpg to use that for major villains and PCs.

Narrative combat is fine.

Scarab Sages

What is your favorite opponent? No preference.

Favorite Warhammer Novel? I'm a fan of the old Felix and Gotrek stories, but I've read a ton of them.

Region in the Empire? No real preference.

Aspect of Warhammer? I think it's a rich and deep setting. And while it claims to be "grim" and "dark" it actually ends up as a more traditional fantasy setting than most other RPGs. (If it were actually both, most of the characters in the novels wouldn't make it through.) The stories are more about surprising heroics (and luck) in the face of "really bad things." And I'm a fan.

Speed of play? 1 a day, ect. I'm good with one a day. Easily.

Opponent: Vampires, and Beastmen

NovelLike them all, but the history type (Sigmar) are probably my favorites.

Region No preference, but I do like Bretonia a lot.

Aspect of Warhammer: The depth and strange brew of familiarity warped a bit are great. Also, think that the game allows for real hero's. It's easy to be a hero when you have heroic stats and abilities, but the real hero's are the beggars with small but vicious dogs who are tasked with saving the world.

frequencyI can normally go once a day, and will give notice when I can't. Saying that if there is no need for input, I will wait for the game to move along. I'm not much for posting "Grock follows the group into the Inn". I'm good with just assuming unless I state otherwise that's what's happening.

Looks like we have a decent level of consensuses on how we want the game to flow and I have enough information to get the ball rolling on hammering out a session.

Does everyone have the core rulebook? If not, we will help those that don't. Thankfully this game is pretty streamlined and easy to pick up.

If you have the book, go ahead and roll up a character. I will get a thread up so we can move over to the OOC to discuss further desires and questions.

lets go full random

Race 1d4 ⇒ 4 Human

Weapon skill 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 6) + 20 = 36
Ballistic Skill 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 3) + 20 = 24
Strength 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 2) + 20 = 24
Toughness 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 6) + 20 = 27
Agility 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 10) + 20 = 37
Intelligence 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 8) + 20 = 37
Willpower 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 1) + 20 = 29
Fellowship 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 3) + 20 = 33 38 with Suave

Wounds 1d10 ⇒ 4 11 wounds

Fate points 1d10 ⇒ 3 2 fate points

Shallya's mercy Ballistic skill = 31

Random Talents 1d10 ⇒ 61d10 ⇒ 9 sixth sense
1d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 10 suave

Career option 1 1d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 2 Student
Career option 2 1d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 10 Thief

lets go student

height 64 + 1d10 ⇒ 64 + (8) = 72 6 ft
weight 1d10 ⇒ 101d10 ⇒ 5 130 lbs
hair 1d10 ⇒ 5 red hair
eyes 1d10 ⇒ 2 grey blue eyes
Distinguishing mark 1d10 ⇒ 51d10 ⇒ 7 lazy eye

Siblings 1d10 ⇒ 2 1
Star sign 1d10 ⇒ 21d10 ⇒ 8 Dragomas the Drake
Age 1d10 ⇒ 61d10 ⇒ 4 28 years old
Birthplace 1d10 ⇒ 5 Ostermark
location 1d10 ⇒ 9 Arable farm

Name 1d10 ⇒ 101d10 ⇒ 6 Dieter

So we have Dieter Bauerson, second son of a farmer in Ostermark. Presumably his father is rather well off for a farmer if he can afford to send his son to university. Dieter is tall and lanky, sharp of mind and quick of foot, but weak and sickly. His left eye is lazy and his red hair makes him stand out in a crowd. He has a talent for realizing situations may be dangerous and gets along with most people.

A proper profile and alias should be done later today. Right now the semi-long term plan is to go into apprentice wizard after student then work my way down the wizard path.

Perfect. I have Realms of Sorcery so I will begin reviewing the magic side of things in depth. Have great adventure to tie into this track later on also.

OOC is live. Will link when I get a chance.

need to do some more research on the Ostermark to do his background but all the crunch should be there.

Bilbo can I take a regular bow instead of a hand weapon? They cost the same and have the same rarity.

starting gold 2d10 ⇒ (8, 7) = 15

I will look over your character later, but bow is fine. Link a reason in your background, which should be easy for a farm boy. :) You get that for free as starting equipment.

Threads are now linked and can be navigated above.

Is using the "Career Compendium" OK for random Character generation? More options?

Is recruitment closed for this if not I would like to express keen interest?
What is your favorite opponent?
I like fighting anything in this deadly combat system. Cultist are great. Also like fighting Greenies of all kinds.

Favorite Warhammer Novel?
Haven't read any novels but have read several source books for the Old World.

Region in the Empire?
Wissenland or Ostland

Aspect of Warhammer?
I like random generation and take it a bit extreme using all sorts of expanded rules for flavor generation. I enjoy the skill system with degrees of success mechanic. I like percentile rolling for some reason guess its because MERP was my first system.

Speed of play? 1 a day, ect.
I can generally keep a post a day. Weekends are a bit rougher.

Was wondering the same

I don't have the career compendium so lets keep it to the core book for now. As far as being closed to recruiting, I need to give the first five a chance first, but come on over to the ooc. We all know how pbp can be. :) I plan keeping to the basic rules till we get a feel for speed. I like the advance rules at the table, but they can slow down play online and once momentum is lost interest often goes with it.

Race: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Dwarf
Career: 1d100 ⇒ 57 Ratcatcher
Career: 1d100 ⇒ 69 Shieldbreaker

Hmm, interesting choices :)

I hadn't seen the random race rolls in the Expanded Character Pack, but I agree with the percentage - The Empire is very humanocentric. I'll use those numbers to determine my race, so thanks for posting them, RocksAhead!

Race, 1-25 Dwarf, 26-35 Elf, 36-50 Halfling, 51-100 Human: 1d100 ⇒ 12

Dwarf it is!

W: 1d10 ⇒ 4 12
FP: 1d10 ⇒ 8 3

Career: 1d100 ⇒ 51 Protagonist
Career: 1d100 ⇒ 91 Tradesman

Hmmmm, I think my choice here will depend upon what our other Dwarf decides to do. If he goes Shieldbreaker, I'll go Tradesman; likewise, if he goes Ratcatcher, then I'll go Protagonist. What's your preference, Spaz?

Looks like a party of Dwarves so far with one human...

Actually, if you're going Miner, that free Great Weapon will probably be combat enough between the three of us. I'll go Tradesman. I'll use Shallya's Mercy to bump up my Strength to 31.

Not sure where I'll go after I finish Tradesman, but we'll burn that bridge when we get there.
