I've been updating the town map with new locations, such as Ulark's home and the shops for Joanne's siblings.
While her parents disapprove of their younger daughter consorting with a Varisian, it is her older sister, Jalene, who especially opposes the relationship. Jalene is a popular, attractive barmaid at the Sitting Duck, and she seems to begrudge Inconnu for reasons beyond simply his heritage.
For her part, Jocelyn apprentices at Hide for the Hills, the tannery just outside the town walls run by a man named Solomon and his wife, Lina.

Inconnu Tain |

Now that he is up Inconnu goes to get some breakfast before heading in the direction of Hide for the Hills. He keeps his eyes peeled in case any of the thugs have lingered to watch him or are following as he goes.

Ulark Bastardson |

Wait...can charm person even work on Ulark? He’s an Aasimar, so he’s an outsider. Just like enlarge person doesn’t work I don’t think charm person does either...

DM Vayelan |

Oh and what about the smudged name, unless it was a red herring?
I hadn't gotten to that because I thought Ulark's interruption would be too much of a distraction for Joanne.
But yes, you can roll an untrained Linguistics skill to try and determine who Kreed is trying to cheat.

Ulark Bastardson |

Behold! The d12 great axe of justice! I’d say 23 points of damage is fairly good for a lvl2 character. :)
Going to have to rename Ulark into “Ulark the Outlaw” if he survives this...
Joanne, can you dominate one of the two guards? Something tells me I’m fighting rogues and that if they flank me I’m in trouble...

Ulark Bastardson |

Ok...doesn’t matter. Keep him from flanking me and I’ll win. I have justice on my side.

Edit for theory crafting
Also... I have “a +1 insight bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against that creature, to his AC against attacks made by the target, and on saving throws against the target’s spells and special abilities.”
So against Kreed I have AC19. Assuming BaB +9, dex18 and a +1 Weapon he will have +14/+10. Without sneak attacks I might survive 2-3 rounds...maybe more with 3x lay on hands. If I can hit each round I might kill him first. Especially if that was a surprise round!

DM Vayelan |

There are actually conflicting stats given for Thuldrin Kreed.
In the 2008 "Guide to Darkmoon Vale" book, he is described as Rogue 4/Expert 3
The 2013 "Towns of the Inner Sea" book lists him as an Expert 3/Rogue 9, though.
Then again, the 2013 book also lists Lady Cirthana as a level 6 cleric instead of level 2 (as in the older book and original module), but that means she should have been able to magically cure the Blackscour Taint.
I've been trying to balance and average out the differing stats given for key NPCs.

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Barbarian over playing nice with local Children, Paladin putting the axe to townsfolk. I think we've hit maximum Pathfinder folks.

Ulark Bastardson |

Just stop me if Ulark ever goes full Vhailor.
Mercy is for the weak. Punishment breaks souls and makes them worthy of service to their superiors. When the number of martyrs is great enough, rebellion crumbles. There is only one truth in the multiverse. The multiverse shall be sharpened upon the blade of justice. With justice as its whetstone, the multiverse shall achieve perfection.
All who are guilty shall be punished. I shall not rest until the sentences of the condemned have been carried out.
Mercy is a shield used by the weak!
While we await, mercy and evil seep into the hearts of more victims!
You will not escape my axe again!
Your crimes cry out for justice!
Perfection through punishment.
Let my words carry you: JUSTICE is a TEACHER. In your PUNISHMENT, gain STRENGTH. Through your PUNISHMENT, achieve PERFECTION.
JUSTICE shall be served. You shall FALL beneath my blade, immortal, even if I have to stand over your struggling remains for ETERNITY. (when he discovers the true identity of The Nameless One)

DM Vayelan |

Okay, I've looked through my books and thought it over.
For the sake of the official record, I am going to use the 2015 Andoran campaign setting sourcebook's stats for Kreed, listing him as a Rogue 4/Expert 4.
So - between Kreed, Pay Day, and their 3 thugs - this encounter will be CR 8 all together.
By appealing to the crowd, and given Ulark's astounding opening strike, this battle is winnable.

In Kingmaker there is an NPC that is five levels higher than listed in a previous book and they specify that just like the PCs in the years that have passed by in previous books they have gained experience and leveled up. Likely the later stats are for after these events.

It's been close to a month since DM Valeyan tried to contact Bastian. Should we try to get a new player. I may know someone but not sure if Valeyan had ideas so haven't asked them.

Ulark Bastardson |

Aye...after a month it’s time to reach out. And having an ally join from the crowd is a great way to bring someone in. But that means we’d need them to join quickly.
If you have a contact you can vouch for, then I am all for that.

Inconnu Tain |

He's in contact with our DM. Said something about a concept for a Tiefling Paladin/Oracle but I'll leave that to DM Vayelan to work out with him on the details. For most parties a bit exotic but this is a spicy one already.
Solid player Ulark, curious to see what he comes up with and how it meshes with the group.

Ulark Bastardson |

Ah, good old oradin. I wonder what he'll be going for? Lay-on-hands / life-link combo, or the lore oracle Cha for AC.
Either way, I never say no to more martials.

Inconnu Tain |

I'll try to balance out any reduction in BAB with inspire courage. I like getting my value for money from that class feature, the more people hacking and slashing the better.

Joanne Anna Noya Aiba |

.....
Said something about a concept for a Tiefling Paladin/Oracle ...
I find it a bit funny that we might have 3 outsiders in this party.
And in the Mini-AP games I'm running, there are 3 added outsiders for my added side story to change it up.
Ulark is kinda like as the Man in Blue (Focused on Justice, though Man in Blue is way more logical and lawful about it.)
Joanne is much Like the Woman in Red.
If this New recruit acts like the Demoness in the dreams that'll be funny...
DM Vayelan and Ulark Bastardson know what I'm talking about since they are in one of the two Mini-AP games I'm running.

Joanne Anna Noya Aiba |

Don't get the reference with Man in Blue and Woman in Red. Are they from a book?
Not a book, and they do have names.
They are Original Characters that represent parts found in the real world, mainly taking roles found in a trial and can act more as Heralds. They can; reward good deeds or give council, though each do so differently.
The Man in blue prefer's judgement for evil done, while the Woman in red tries to redeem those who have done evil.
If your an Old StarTrek TNG fan, think of Q's Trial in the First two episodes of Season 1
With Q as the Man in Blue and Jean-Luc Picard as the Woman In Red.

Joanne Anna Noya Aiba |

So they are characters of yours?
For the most part, yes, though they were influenced by a bit with the Law and Order series, Half-Life's G-Man, a good chunk of .Hack, some historical texts, and Over a decade of constant tweaks and new Ideas.
The Woman in Red used to be a simple NPC cleric, but over time evolved to it's current iteration.
The Man in Blue as created as a Foil and Mirror Character to The Woman in Red a year and a bit after she was made.

Ulark Bastardson |

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation. I don't think that Ulark will end up like one of your characters based on the explanation. He's more of a simple guy, naive and nice. Means well. But he has the blood of a Monastic Deva coursing through his veins, which in times of stress or anger (and when faced with what he believes to be evil) can make him...less than friendly. Hence why he'll be going Bloodrager with Celestial Bloodline. For free action +4 Strength and Good Aligned attacks.
If anything, he is more like the Hulk than Q. If the Hulk was a paladin. And if instead of getting big and green, he just got bigger and greener.

Micheo Barbulcus |

Hello all! Decimus here. Micheo Barbulcus isn't quite ready yet but is pretty close.
He'll be the most helpful kyton-spawn you're likely to meet. :)
I've indeed gone oradin, a hospitaler paladin and oracle of life. Maybe going into holy vindicator eventually.

Ulark Bastardson |

Welcome! And what tiefling? He looks like a completely normal human to me. ;)
Also I like the build. +3 to your lay on hands will certainly help keep you on your feet.

Micheo Barbulcus |

With life link, I hope to keep ye all on your feet too.
I need to clean up the sheet a bit, but the basics are there so I'll post and not hold up some aid for Ulark.

Micheo Barbulcus |

Micheo is not wise. And he is very earnest about doing good. So I can easily see how this situation would push him to charge in without considering the fallout.
Well, at least we'll get to chat after legging it out of town!

Micheo Barbulcus |

Just thinking about future progression.
I aim to take at least 3 levels of Oracle, likely 4 and at least 4 levels of paladin. That said, I have yet to pin down the order.
Paladin 3 gives me a mercy, and I'm leaning towards removing Fatigued.
The downside of going paladin for the next two levels is that I'll be stuck with one life link until I get those next two oracle levels.
I'm happy to take suggestions if ye have any.

Micheo Barbulcus |

Just to clarify, are we out of the surprise round? Because Micheo can't act in one. With the post now past the hour mark, we can say he saw the danger but acted too slowly (will post that ic if that's the case).
Powerless Prophecy
You are forewarned of danger but can’t act to prevent it. You gain uncanny dodge, as the rogue class feature. However, you can’t take any actions in a surprise round, including free actions, except for flash of insight. In the absence of a surprise round, you are staggered for the entire first round of combat.

Ulark Bastardson |

Yup! Out of surprise round so you are good. Also you’re a brave man with the curses: powerless prophecy is nothing to sneeze at. Though dual cursed’ rerolls more than make up for it.
For Oradins they go 4/4, right? Now, I’d take paladin2 asap for the Cha->Saves. Then I’d go Oracle2/3/4, as they give +1 BaB and much better spellcasting. And finally Paladin3/4, for the lay on hands. By that point grab bracers of the merciful knight, and your lay on hands is at the effectiveness of a lvl8 paladin.

Micheo Barbulcus |

Excellent! Micheo gets to run headlong into danger straight away. I like the idea of powerless prophecy, even if it means Micheo is likely to get beaten up a bit. ;) Once he has a life link or three set up, he can still heal ye even if he isn't acting.
Cheers for the notions, Paladin 2 looks like the best bet for my next level. Lay on hands is critical to the Oradin, and the saves and bab are nothing to sneeze at. My initial lay on hands on self will be 1d6+4 four times a day between Fey Foundling, Tiefling alternate favoured class bonus for paladin, and Blessed Touch trait.

Micheo Barbulcus |

@DM Vayelan
With Knowledge (religion) and (planes), would it be reasonable for Micheo to know that cold iron weapons normally harm fey, demons, and certain lycantropes? Thanks to fey foundling, he is discomfited by cold iron, if at a lesser degree than the above.
