For the rest of you, Reine will be taking a 5' step back to be adjacent to Des ( adjusted the map), and she'll be going full Buff with Manifestations (Aura, Lingering Touch, etc.) so that she should start cutting through ghouls quickly (I hope!).

I had an unexpected guest today and now it's super late, but I'll try to get a post out at lunch tomorrow. If that's too much of a holdup, feel free to bot Des and the shadow. She'll attack with an acid splash, and it will attack with scary life-stealing PAs, haha. Awesome that we can fluff the damage that way. If ghouls keep pouring into the hallway after the last three, Des will cast Enlarge Person on the shadow.

WOW! The RNG appears to be saving up something especially brutal for us later.

I've never played a Dread before. Reine is proving to be (with the help of some lucky rolls) pretty good at this Melee thing. Of course, she's a true glass cannon. I'm pretty sure her 18hp at level 3 is by far the lowest of the group, so...

Also, I wasted a use of Lingering Touch here (and probably a few PP on UA) I didn't realize ghouls were quite so fragile, for some reason.


13 hp is not great. They're 2-hit targets, at best. Those full attack actions should be paralyzing you guys with decent regularity, but apparently the RNG has other plans.

I'm absolutely terrified about what those other plans are. The RNG is never nice to me for very long, unless it's setting me up for vengeance later.

I'm expecting a round or two of multiple crits from the BBEG later, frankly.

The RNG took care of John with very little effort.

The triple save of disease, paralysis, and stench is rough.

Ghouls and Ghasts need to be low HP, I suppose, because those conditions are (literally) killers. If they were tanks, too? Yeesh!

John's going to spend the next 2 books of the AP getting over the PTSD.

When he gets an animal companion at 4th level, it's definitely going to be a therapy dog.

There have been some small encounters, but I don't think anything of any real size.

I'm not sure that John has seen Reine actually fight before.

Not that he's seeing much now either.

And I was going to say "he still hasn't."

I'm hoping that he'll turn around, see a pile of ghoul corpses, and the three innocent and fragile-looking ladies (or at least two, anyway) standing amongst them, and have no real idea what just happened.

Would make a lovely scene in a movie. :D

Just went through the archives a bit, and yeah... It looks like everything to this point has been 1- or 2-round skirmishes - with John doing most of the damage. Anything not fitting that description has been very odd, a haunt, or talking rats.

So up until the Voonith, John hasn't seen Reine willingly enter melee (she's shot her bow a few times - usually not terribly effectively). He hadn't really seen Des' shadow do a lot directly, either, though he *has* seen it act weird.

So, yep.

John isn't going believe anyone in this place is innocent.

Yeah, it's going to bug him that all the ghouls are dead and no one has a weapon.

If it wasn't obvious, John's background is that he started as a municipal ratcatcher. That's why he is still hung up on rats talking.


For all the scary stuff Reine and Des just did, I think the only thing John actually saw was Broom doing her black-lash electric shock thing, which nearly one-shot the ghast. That was a neat/scary trick.

All of this is going to damage John's calm for sure.

Figured it out! Reine can't fight effectively when John is able to do so.

She's only been effective when John has been Dazed or Paralyzed. :-)

Normally, I wouldn't have her chase after the ghoul, but it's headed towards the door we came through originally, and might kill other people. If it runs outside, instead, she's not going to follow.

I actually don't have a problem with the way things were going. I thought it would be funny, but I sorta doubted that everyone would be feeling all chill with a ghoul still less than 30' away. :-)

Des was still freaking out about her Shield spell while Reine was chasing the ghoul, not realizing she could dismiss the shadows, so I just assumed we'd waited a while and it was later. I thought Reine was just waiting on the ghoul's actions to finish it or for it to get away. My bad!

As a note, if anyone asks while she's in earshot and not killing anything, Reine does have 2 CLW potions. One came from the first-aid station, I think. The other she might've had in her gear since the beginning.

Doesn't help with the Ghoul Fever, though.

EDIT: BUT! She does also have an anti-plague, which would potentially give John another save, right? Someone should mention to Reine that John's feeling sick.

Des also has 2 CLW potions (from the cultists who were smashed by birds, I think?), but that might be overkill for 1 hp, haha.

Aaaand I see I forgot to add her amulet to her AC. At least it wasn't needed!

I'm not sure John knows he's sick.

I'll be dropping hints about feeling hot and sweating as the fever develops.


With a 1 day onset and then a rather low DC (for adventurers) Fort check repeated every day, I doubt Johns’s even going to take ability damage from it, much less be at risk of dying. But he probably will start to feel sick, yeah.

Regarding the magic shield: None of us other than John is proficient with it, I don't think, and John is apparently set up for TWF. So... Thoughts?

Also, Reine will be pointing out to John that "leaving Broom to do whatever she's going to do" and investigating rooms alone is not really what she would classify as being "less impulsive." :-)
