Jasmine can target 3 rats without taking any attacks of opportunity, including the one already injured. Electricity spreads from her body and electrocutes the creatures, which shriek in agony, and one of them passes out from the pain.

Seijiro follows by moving with deft surety across the bilges and dodges behind one of the rats before burying his dagger into its spine. It falls into the water, unconscious.

The remaining four rats move to swarm both Seijiro and Jasmine, two on each of them and one leaves itself open to the kitsune's attacks (I took the opportunity to roll your AoO; if you'd like me to avoid it in the future, let me know). He pierces the rat's lungs with his weapon and it drops. One of the rats attempts to bite Seijiro, who dodges out of the way. The other two snap their teeth at the elven woman and while she avoids one of them, the other bites into her flesh painfully (Jasmine takes 2 points of damage and must make a Fortitude save).

There are three rats left, two are severely injured, the other is at full health. Two are flanking Jasmine and the third is behind Seijiro. The other three are dying.

End of Round 1. Back at the top with Amerdan.

Let us try to be as brief as possible. It's not as if I'm eager to return to our assignments, but the less time spent in the bilges the better. Perception in searching the Bilge: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 The pain in her left ankle is too much for her to concentrate on the search.

If you post a lookout, you can actually sift through here for a couple of hours before anyone even bothers to come by and see what's taking you so long, so everyone can effectively take 20 on the Perception check to search the bilges.

The group spends 40 minutes sifting through the crates, hay and the dark waters to see what they can come up with...

In the crates there is a suit of studded leather armor, 3 heavy maces, and 12 silver pieces. Searching the water takes more time but by the time you've all sifted through the murky liquid from one end of the bilges to the other, you've managed to find a buckler, a finely crafted (masterwork) handaxe, a vial of holy water, marked with Besmara's skull and crossbones, and a waterproof pouch containing a tanglefoot bag, 2 tindertwigs, and 21 gold pieces.

Unless anyone has anything else to do, the rest of the day is fairly uneventful. Plugg just sends you back to your respective jobs when you report your success and Scourge looks disappointed that whatever was down there didn't eat you. Jack Scrimshaw seems impressed with you guys, having been bit by the "monster" in the bilges and quickly spreads the story of how your group slew the creatures lurking below deck (for this evening, everyone receives a +2 circumstance bonus on all Charisma-based skill checks due to your temporarily elevated status).

Once the sun sets and the "Bloody Hour" comes about, both Lucky Ned and Cog are slated for lashings, the former for destroying some rigging earlier in the day. Cog receives 3 lashes and is swooning with pain at the end of it, glaring death towards Scourge before he stumbles off to get his evening meal.

Ned is secured to the post and lashed into unconsciousness and unceremoniously dragged off and dropped on deck.

The next thing he knows is he feels the tingling spray of warm sea water as Sandara finishes weaving her curative magic into him (regain 11 hit points). "T'was a nasty lashin'. Yer lucky t'have me aboard t'patch ye up." she says with a wry smile.

Jasmine would have stood guard becasue of her bite.

Before we went back up to the deck, Jasmine would cast prestidigitation and clean everyone up. I would leave a little dirt on the footwear and bottom on the garments so it looks like we worked.

I would have eventually sought out Sandra to ask about the dire rat bites, showing her the wound. She would ask Sandra who would parchment for scrolls, ink and quill. Grok did not have any, when asked.

How she feels about being at sea, that sort of thing.

Seijiro will attempt to talk to Giffer Tibbs during the evening, seeing if he can maybe make a new friend. Giffer Tibbs seems to be a good choice as she seems nice enough, which means she isn't brown nosing Scourge or Plugg. Without saying anything specifically, he'll try to get her take on a change in management on the ship at some time in the future. Diplomacy check. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

"Sandra do you need a heavy mace, we have a couple extra?" looking over at ned and Amerdan, "We should check to see if Cog would like one. That look in his eye was pure vengence. No better way to solidify a friendship then helping out with a weapon."Understanding the coin for selling or trading the item would help us individually, this is a much better way to make friends with some other crew members.

Sandara leans down towards him, with a playful smirk on her face and picks up a bucket, dumping its contents (thankfully sea water) over the cheeky priest's head.

"Aye, but methinks I'll be tossin' this one back t'the sea.", she looks over at Amerdan. "Poor fish be gaspin' fer seawater." she laughs in good fun and helps Ned to his feet. "Ye're a sly one Ned, thought ye were unconscious from the pain when ye were just tryin' t' steal a kiss. This ship's harder to board then that but the prize be well worth it."

She takes a look at Jasmine's wound. "'Tis infected. I can help, but I'd 'ave to keep a close eye on ye. All night." she says with a wink. She pats the cutlass on her hip "Nay, lass' but thank ye fer the offer."

I've houseruled Besmara's weapon to be the cutlass instead of the rapier, which is why she can wield one.

Ned gasps from the seawater, smiling wearily all the while.

For the sake of honesty, I was unconscious until you charmed me back to life, you sea devil.

Watching the conversation between Ned and Jasmine obviously takes a toll on the poor man.

Well, since we have made some enemies on board, I can always watch over you two to make sure no one slices your throats in your sleep. You gals do not worry, I'm be your lookout.

Male Human Cleric (Evangelist) 1

What are Ned's duties for the rest of the day?

Female human NPC

Grok doesn't care about how you got the item, pirates are always gambling something or other away, and she'll buy any weapons and equipment you find at 50% market value. Unfortunately there are no quills or inkwells available at the Quartermaster's area. You get the impression that such things are valuable for writing out pilot logs and marking charts so the officers would snag them first.

@Ned: It's the evening so your duties are over for now.

"Gallant, 'specially fer someone offerin' to watch two lovely ladies lay." she laughs merrily and lights her pipe. "I do appreciate yer offer, the fear o' the Pirate Queen only deters most, some are jest plain mad." she shrugs.

Cog looks at Jasmine for a moment then nods.

"Thanks." he manages to say, with some obvious difficulty as he takes the heavy mace.

The night starts without much variation, besides the lashings that both Cog and Ned received, and the evening meal goes by smoothly when the group notices Plugg and four of his most loyal pirates leave the main deck and go below. A few minutes later they return, towing with them a hulking brute of a man, standing closer to seven then six feet in height. His head is shaved and he's dressed in naught but ragged pants and his skin is blotched with what looks like patches of tar and feathers.

"Well boys n' wenches, time fer a bit of sport, some more entertainment for all of ye. Owlbear here needs to be exercised. Who among you is brave enough to take on the challenge?" he turns towards your small group. "You four, new bloods, none of you have seen Owlbear in action ", The large man hoots and growls then capers around as most of the crew laugh at him, "Any of you have the guts to take him on in a friendly bare-knuckle match? I'll even make it interesting." he pulls a small purse off his belt and throws it on the deck with an audible jingle. "One hundred gold pieces if one of you can beat him." he finishes with a cocky smile, confident in his champion's skill.

The large simpleton grins, disturbingly, like a child and capers around. "Ahm gonna beats 'im good, yes I wills, yes I wills! Then I get a treat! Yes I does!" he says in a little singsong.

Wow. Somehow Owlbear goes first and the dice gods hate you. Hate you so much. I'm sorry. :(

He giggles, looking like this is some sort of game, and moves up to Seijiro, then swings with a powerful haymaker that cracks across Seijiro's jaw and knocks him clean to the floor, unconscious (9 points of nonlethal damage, 1 point of lethal). Owlbear jumps up and down, capering like a fool. "I did it! I did it!"

Mr. Plugg sneers smugly. "Well, that was pathetic. So pathetic that I think someone else should step up and give us a show. Anyone?"

GM Dice Rolls:
Owlbear's Initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Seijiro's Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Owlbear's Attack (unarmed strike): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Owlbear Rolling to Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Owlbear's Damage: 2d3 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10

Did anyone take Jasmine up on the offer for a bet? She was looking for some odds to lay 1 GP out on.

Game Master

You would have easily found someone to bet against you. Odds are pretty much 1:1 since everything is pretty spontaneous. Plugg's reward isn't so much a bet as an incentive to get you guys to fight Owlbear.

I'll deduct the lost GP from the bet.
