Cela informs you that using the raise dead scroll on ashes would do nothing. The body needs to be somewhat fresh and somewhat intact.
Lumpy is still down for 45 min
Any creature would be trapped in the circle unless someone let them out by covering the runes or dispelling them.

He was summoned from hell as I was we spent many millennia here together until he perished. He was weak. Although we held similar stations I would have destroyed him.
You would not have been able to negotiate with him as you can me. Let us work together. Release me and we can fix the dam. I feel the waters rise and the gates fail to open. I know what must be done!

Sekkimm steps into the circle and is immediately trapped inside. The runes flash - Sekkimm feels one with the dam sensing distant valves and screws. Both circles flare and Sekkimm feels his life force being pulled away.
Make a DC 20 Fortitude save or lose a level.
The Devil screams!
"No, no, nooooooo!!!! Damn you for all eternity! I Avaxial am destroyed!"
The runes illumination starts to fade and the devil crumbles to a pile of ash similar to what was in the other circle.
You hear the groaning of Giant mechanisms in the dam. Something is happening. Sekkimm can feel the pressure on the dam and floodgates opening. He knows you have saved the dam from collapsing perhaps in 1-3 days.
The Pit Fiends soul is lost and he is forever destroyed. The dam is safe for now but someone will need to find appropriate "energy sources" before a future flood.
Does anyone want to let Sekkimm out?
GM Pablo |
Wait, soul destroyed? Ouch.
Unfortunately you stepped in just as he said that...maybe Cela should have summoned a woodland creature...
You get 9600 party experience for opening the flood gates and saving the village downriver.
You finish searching the rooms in the dam the last narrow chamber is empty save for a long, ten-foot-wide pool.
There is nothing of value in the pools, but Sekkimm knows here is a secret door in the far Western pool that leads to the Storval deep.
GM Pablo |
You eventually make you way out of the dam after Lumpy comes back to undeath. You make your way back to the Fort without incident. The massive flood gates releasing water in a controlled way. Cela is able to fly over Turttleback Ferry and see the the water rising, but nothing that endangers the town.
Mayor Shreed thrilled that you have saved Turtleback Ferry again rewards you with 2000 gp.
Sekkim |
Trolls will starve, eventually. I think we just explain the system to the people in Turtleback Ferry and they can drop off a pair of sheep and tons of hay every now and then - or something. No, that won't work, sheep starve. Huh. Maybe they could feed them? It's not that far a walk.
Hey, uh, guys? The circle?

Back at the fort Jakardros is very impressed with your liberation of the dam. The Skulltaker Trolls have ruled that domain since before Fort Rannick was founded. He would like to send a contingent of men and hold the dam, but that will need to wait for the reinforcements en-route from Magnimar.
Jakardros reluctantly asks you for another favor.
"Fort Rannick's commander, Lamatar Bayden is still missing. His letters and journal indicted he was out on his so called "communion walk." Most likely, Lamatar was visiting his lover, Myriana in the Shimmerglens."
"The Shimmerglens are a small wetlands area found between the Sanos Forest and the Skull River in central Varisia. The swamps are well-known to be the home of fey and fey-like creatures, especially where they border on the Sanos Forest. Hunters and trappers from the nearby village of Bitter Hollow know to stay within sight of Claybottom Lake, considering all territory beyond to be the domain of the denizens of the Shimmerglens."
"The Shimmerglens have long been shrouded in mystery, for these trackless swamps are said to lie quite close to the First World, particularly where they border Sanos Forest. Capricious and sometimes malicious creatures are known to harass travelers in this domain. The Wicker Walk between Sanos Forest and the hamlet of Bitter Hollow was built expressly to offer travelers a way to cross through the swamp s without annoying the area's denizens, but stories still abound of nixies laying traps to confuse and baffle travelers , of nymphs seducing men and women and leaving them besotted and lost in the marsh, and of sprites stealing supplies and replacing them with rotten fish, poison mushrooms, or disturbing little dolls made of clay and string."
"Will you go and see if you can find Commander Bayden? If he is dead, please try and recover his body so we can lay him to rest here at the Fort. He was a good man and led Fort Rannick for many years. I fought too many battles with the Commander and I personally don't think he was a traitor like Kaven"

Your reward from freeing the fort went to the house. Additional land is purchased and some Construction should be underway.
You still have a bit of negative balance owed from the raise dead scroll -2762 gp
You have advised all parties of the dam and what needs to be done. Magnimar will need to hire a wizard to stock the pens with some demon or devil, but this year's abnormal weather should be safe now that the flood gates have opened.

Nice! Not only will there be no payoff, we're further in debt. Why did we buy extra property again?
Here, Sekkimm. I will copy these from you when the time comes for me to use them. May they serve you well.
Buchart hands Sekkimm the scrolls since he will most likely never be able to use them. He does have a death wish, after all.
And I believe you should have this Anaba. Since you are the spearhead of our little band, you will most likely be the first into the fray! Keep it in orbit with your other stone when you know there to be peril from spellcasters!
Buchart hands Anaba the ioun stone. And again to Sekkimm,
Is there any way for us to get a message to Magnimar and my faction? I would really like to have some new spells.

The Fort also sends down all the larged sized weapons. They are secure in crates and ready for shipment to Magnimar when the river opens up. No one here wants to buy them and they would like them out of the region in case the fort gets overrun again. No sense in leaving good ogre sized weapons like this around here.
Any other business?
With all your transactions done are you ready to head to the Swamp?
