Daviren waves the dragon off, seemingly unaffected by its proximity. "If you're so intelligent, then act civilized. That involves taking others into account."

There are several kids running around town wildly, uncaring about the occasional rebukes of their parents. You do happen to notice one young boy who is hiding rather poorly behind the edge of the building, his eyes drilling into the board with a look of longing.

Action!:
Gritz quietly peered around as he looked around from his hiding spot. Looking over, he could see a familiar sight, incredulously: the silver dragon, and the Pretty Dragon Lady! And a few other familiar faces! The Fuzzy Evil Books Guy, the Yummy Foods Lady, and even the Little Glass Lady! They must be part of the party too. He still had a bent spoon he needed to give back to the Yummy Foods Lady... they were really clumsy with their treasures. If that had fallen into any other goblin hands, they might not get them back!

The trails of smoke in the sky worried Gritz a little... wasn't there a fire going on? It couldn't possibly be his fellow goblins... they would be making much more noise. Maybe it was more party bonfires? Either way, the longshanks didn't seem too worried about... if they weren't, maybe nothing was wrong... he did keep an eye on them, and an ear out for other screeches!

At this point, I won't be doing too much else before things get dicey, so... unless something tries to interfere with him, Gritz will just be keeping his head low.

Seeing the boy, Hollie makes her way towards him. She squats down beside him and offers the boy the doll, as well as a couple of silver. She smiles at him and tussles his hair a bit before saying ”Go have some fun and win a couple more off of ol’ Daviren!”

She stands and steps back over to the others. ”What about the rest of ya? Gonna take a toss? Or you want to join us in looking over the other stands?” she asks. Noting Draxtherian’s rising temper, she clicks her tongue at him. As he begrudgingly makes his way to her side, she says ”Try and relax, buddy. You have to realize not everyone understands our connection. To be honest, neither of us really do either,” as she scratches him behind one of his horns.

Matthias patters along eagerly to enjoy the games as well. Upon seeing the game, he can't wait to participate! But he waits meekly and claps enthusiastically for Hollie and Shaedeen when they win their prizes.

When his turn comes, he steps up excitedly and launches his bags in nervously quick succession.
Beanbag: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Beanbag: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Beanbag: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

He smiles shyly and accepts his prize. He then attempts to offer the doll, which doesn't particularly suit his tastes, to someone else in the crowd.

Diplomacy: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2

But he gets nervous amongst so many hit folk and turns to the nearest person, who happens to be a large, sweaty bald man, and thrusts the doll at the man.

"H... H... Here! You n... N... N... Need this!"

That last part was meant to be a question to offer the doll to the man... But Matthias was SO nervous...

Female Gnome Alchemist (Grenadier) 4 | HP 27/27 | Init +5, Perc +9 (Low-Light Vision) | AC 16 T 14 FF 13 | F +5 R +7 W +1 |

Jes claps as each of the others win a "dead goblin" doll then steps up to give a try herself.

Beanbag: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Beanbag: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Beanbag: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

She tosses the bags and jumps for joy when she lands all three, taking her new doll with pride. Unlike the others she looks at the doll a moment admiring it, before stuffing it in her pack. She then turns to Daviren with a smile "I have to say, this was a great little idea you came up with," she moves closer to speak a little quieter to him "though you might consider moving the rope back a little bit more to increase the difficulty. Want to make sure you can get a little coin for all your trouble!"

As she has won her first prize and the others mention going off to look into more of the festivities Jes nods in agreement "Yes, let's see what else this festival has to offer!"

The child stares at the silver pieces Hollie gave him for a few seconds before running off into town hurriedly, no longer paying Daviren any mind.

Meanwhile, the large man turns and looks at Matthias with a glare as the ratfolk tries to pass off the goblin doll. "Don't give me none of that. Your kind ain't gonna trick me no more! Move along. I'm not falling for that again," he says, walking away with his hand clutching the pouch at his waist.

Daviren clucks his tongue as the man leaves, but doesn't otherwise comment. "I spent maybe 50 copper setting this all up. And the prizes were simply donated by Rosie. Dear Hollie has already turned me a profit by herself," he replies to Jes. "Meant to be more of a fun game than a money maker.

"As for other things to see, you might want to check out a few stalls around town square for now, since it won't be long until the evening prayer. Well, that is if you're even attending. No mean to push, of course. I know some people don't like the religious side of things."

“Mithral Champion” Paladin 6| hp 52/52| Init +3, Per +9 (Darkvision 60’) | AC 21, T 13, FF 18 | Fort +11, Ref +9, Will +10 (acid/cold/electricity resist 5)| Rapier +9 (1d6/18-20)

Hollie pats Daviren on the arm, ”Good ol’ Daviren, always thinking of others,” she says with a genuine smile. ”He’s right though,” she adds as she turns back to the others and steps towards the main part of the festival, ”there is so much more to see and do! Let’s go check out what else there is!”

As you approach the main square, you see a variety of stalls, booths lining the streets just outside it. The square itself is mostly cleared of the stalls to allow room for people to gather later. The stalls are set up by both locals and traveling merchants and present an array of food, clothes, tools, and other items of unknown use. Merchants cry out their wares as people go from booth to booth to see all the different items. This is truly the most trade Sandpoint has ever seen at once.

Near the wooden stage, Father Zantus and the Mayor stand talking as they prepare for the evening prayer which isn't long off.

Most items are available here for your characters to peruse at their leisure. As it is the weekend, I'm holding off the real 'action' part until Mon morn, but feel free to continue to interact with the festival, even the earlier mentioned games.

"Agreed," Shaedeen says as she falls into step beside Hollie. "I brought my bow with me in case there was some kind of archery contest, but...come to think of it, the mayor and sheriff probably don't want arrows being shot in town during the festival."

Hollie moves from stall to stall, perusing the wares. At Shaedeen’s comment she giggles, ”Probably not! I left my crossbow at home. Didn’t see any need for it. I’m not great with it anyway,” she says as she approaches a dress vendor claiming to have all the most recent fashions from Absalom. She picks through a few of her wares, eventually holding up a two piece red dress with intricate gold trim to her frame and turning to her party friends ”What do you all think?”

Draxtherian scowls ”A bit revealing for the Priestess of Sandpoint, isn’t it?”

”I’m not really a priestess! It’s just a nickname everyone gave me!” she retorts. ”Besides. It’s been a long time since I’ve bought myself anything nice. It’d be nice to have a new dress to wear to the Theater tonight for the show...”

One of Shaedeen's eyebrows raises a bit at Draxtherian's reveal. A priestess? Darn! She'll never have me as a friend if she finds out who and what I really am....

"Well, I think it looks amazing," she tells Hollie nonetheless, throwing a sideways glare at the dragon. Turning to Drax she adds, "Shouldn't you be nicer to Hollie? If you have a criticism, at least try to couch it in a compliment...something like 'I thinks it looks amazing, though perhaps a bit revealing.'"

Looking down at the worn but comfortably snug suit of black studded leather armor she's wearing, Shae crinkles her nose and admits, "I'm not exactly dressed for the theater, am I? Some clown told me that goblins walk the streets of town at night so I wore this for protection.... I feel so silly. Er, not that you folks invited me to tag along...or that I'd actually be interested in seeing some play or musical or whatever."

And just why did I think that Hollie (or anybody, for that matter) would want me for a friend?

Looking down at Matthias and Jessalissa, Shae suddenly realizes she's the second-tallest person in the spontaneously-formed clique, and that knowledge makes her feel good about herself again. She belatedly congratulates the two smaller folk on their success at the goblin toss game, jokingly naming the group the Great Goblinslayers.

Matthias tags along, happily looking through stall after stall of wares. When Hollie asks about the dress he blushes (expressed as a down-turning of the ears) and mutters something about not knowing anything about these things

His ears turn down again at the congratulations form Shaedeen. He smiles at the name and nods hesitantly.

"Indeed! The G... g... Goblinslayers will visit the theater together!"

Will be interesting to see how this affects our interaction with Gritz.

”Nonsense!” Hollie says at Shae’s claim she wasn’t invited. ”Since fate seems to say we enjoy the festival together, that includes all of its festivities, including the theater! Here,” Hollie says as she picks up a matching dress to hers but in black and holds it up to Shaedeen and a gnomish sized one in blue for Jess ”We’ll all match. Matthias, I doubt you want to wear a dress...you ought to pick yourself out something to take us ladies out tonight in!” she adds with a mischievous grin.

She looks to the vendor and asks for the price, and hands her 10 gold coins for each dress. ”There! Now if Cyrdak’s show doesn’t live up to his hype, we’ll at least be the talk of the town! Haha!”

I’m thinking these are 10gp Entertainer’s Outfits, with decorative trim and nice material. Basically the equivalent of party dresses. Also, a decent Sense Motive here would likely give you all the impression that Hollie is trying harder than normal folks would to be nice and make friends for some reason.

Shaedeen seems reticent about wearing matching outfits at first but eventually warms to the idea, purchasing some relatively cheap jewelry (bangley bracelets and a necklace) and some new shoes to round out her ensemble. She also firmly insists on paying Hollie back for the price of the dress.

Tongue planted firmly in cheek, Shae asks Hollie, "And is Draxtherian going au naturel? We should at least buy him a bowtie."

Shaedeen Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Hollie is quite insistent on paying for them. Deducted 35 gp from my Alias for the dresses and same style of jewelry and style of shoe as Shae.

Hollie refuses to accept any form of payback. ”Absolutely not! Consider it a welcoming gift from Sandpoint!“ Hollie also buys herself some shoes and jewelry to go along with the attire for the evening show.

Easy! Just change it from Goblinslayers to Goblin Swayers! Especially if Gritz can actually start converting other goblins to his worship... which would be hilarious, honestly.

A tribe built around Shelyn. Such a direct contrast.

The stall runner smiles as Hollie selects the garments from her rack. Hollie and Jes recognize her as Rosie, a young seamstress known for her constantly changing attire. Her features are mostly covered by her soft, dark blue cloak, keeping her hood up just enough to cover past her ears, but let her face be easily seen.

"I think you would look beautiful in it, honey," she comments with a bright smile. "I plan on heading to the theater as well, so I hope to see the three of you wearing them.

"And as for you," she says, turning to Mattias. "I have a nice fur coat that would complement your pelt quite well. Let's see..." She digs under a few garments laid across a table before pulling out a dark brown, fur coat. "This here is fine bear fur, yet light enough to not make one too uncomfortable on a hot day. Normally I'd say 5 gold pieces for the dresses, and 3 for the smaller dress and coat, but I'd give them to you for 12 for all three dresses, and 2 more for the coat if you want it."

Hollie, Jes, and Perception DC 15:
When looking at the stall runner, Rosie, you notice the behind of her cloak shifting at times as though on its own. Looking closer, you finally notice a fur tail being covered by the cloak.

5 gp for a dress is very, very formal for commoners, which is almost everyone in Sandpoint, though simply formal for non-commoners. You'll be turning heads here, at least. These are probably the most expensive items in the booth as well. Grabbing simple jewelry from another stall will run you an extra 10 gp (cheap quality being 5 gp); simple being without any precious stones.

Matthias, completely unused to this level of attention, turns his ears down and pays up out of his small purse. He also purchases some nice shiny jewelry to wear, apparently splurging.

He smiles slightly at Hollie's words, unsure how to handle having this many people being friendly to him at once. He puts on the coat and some cheap jewelry. "Ok... I think I'm ready... Do I look alright?"

10 gp subtracted.

Adjusted My coin to cover the purchase of the three dresses and Matthiases coat, and Hollie’s accessories.

”Thanks Rosie! I hope we can do them justice at the show!” she says as she takes her own. She looks at Matthias and squats down to his level, tugging at his collar, ”You are quite dashing, Matty! I think the men of Sandpoint will be quite jealous of you when we go to the show later!”

Draxtherian coughs and says ”Shouldn’t you be getting ready?”

Hollie pales and shakes her head, ”Thanks for reminding me, spoilsport! But it’s not for some time yet, I have time to still enjoy the festival some more...”

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Jes stares at Rosie, quieter than normal as the others talk about dresses and the show. She knew of the woman but hadn't actually met her up close before. Now seeing her up close something seemed a little off. Finally catching a glance of something, she quirks her eyebrow. She thinks a moment, trying to keep her inquisitive nature at bay, but has little luck.

Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

She quietly moves over to the woman as the others talk and pulls on the side of her clothes, like a kid would their parent, to get her attention and whispers "What are you?" as she motions toward the back of the woman's cloak. Jes smiles innocently, showing there are no preconceived notions or judgement, just genuine curiosity.

Rosie smiles gently at Jes' question. "It's a secret," she whispers back with a wink and a wide grin.

A Knowledge (Planes) DC 15 (trained) would give more info.

Jes sighs in defeat but thinks to herself I'll figure it out!, then returns to the others not wanting to cause a scene since the woman obviously didn't want anything to be revealed.

As Hollie pays for the dresses and hands one to Jes, she beams "Thanks Hollie! We will be the talk of the town at tonight's production." She folds the dress up neatly and takes her pack off her shoulders before placing the dress inside carefully. As she does, she takes out a small notebook, glances at Rosie briefly and scribbles a short note before closing it up and putting the notebook back into her pack, then placing the pack back up on her shoulders. Looking about the various vendors she looks to see if there are any selling books or historical artifacts.

Looking through the stalls, a find a few that are selling books, but most are selling more common books that you have seen before. However, one stall catches your eye. The half-elf merchant doesn't even have a stall setup, but has his few items laid out before him on a cloth. Three of the books look very old with the titles "The Sins of Thassilon", "Thassilon's Myths", and "Seven Swords of Power". They look quite authentic from a glance, but when you try to reach down to pick them up, the half-elf stops you.

"I'm sorry, but these are very delicate, so I can't just have anyone touching you, you know. I'd be happy to let you have them if you're willing to buy them, however. These are quite rare finds, and I've never seen another copy of them, but I'd be willing to let them go for 15 gold apiece."

Appraise DC 15:
These books are very old, and though in good in condition for their age, they need to be handled very carefully least they fall apart entirely.

As the small group walks and Jess stops to look at some books, Hollie stops as well tomlet her have a chance to shop. As they wait, Draxtherian steps up to Hollie and asks ”Have you thought about what you are going to say?”

Hollie anxiously shakes her head anxiously. ”No. and my stomach is full of more butterflies than was released this morning already, so thank you so much for keeping it going!” she replies sarcastically.

Hollie clearly has little interest in the old books as well, and continues to hang near Shaedeen while she shops for jewelry. But for the life of me, I have no idea what I’m going to say...” she says as she clutches her arms across her midriff, as if trying to forcefully hold the butterflies fluttering within down.

Shaedeen's eyes widen a bit. Celestial blood??!! Recovering quickly, she says, "Well...I've always heard you should start with a joke. Then...just focus on positive things, I guess. Try to connect with your audience...."

Shaedeen realizes she's pretty much babbling at this point and falls silent. "I'm sure you'll do well," she concludes.

Hollie smiles at Shaedeen’s advice. ”That would work if it were a speech, but this is a prayer to the gods. I...I don’t know if they have a great sense of humor,” she says with a sigh. ”You know of any good jokes for the gods?” she asks with a smirk and nudge with her shoulder.

Shaedeen bites her lip, perhaps swallowing whatever words she'd been about to speak. "Maybe just say something along the lines of: 'We built this awesome cathedral in your honor and would appreciate it if you gods could take a moment to get off your collective arses to bless it.'"

"On second thought...you'd better not say that. I'm not a religious person. Prayers are out of my league."

Hollie laughs whole heartedly at Shaedeen’s comment. Every time she starts to recover and turn to reply, she starts laughing all over again. By the time she’s done, she is leaning on her knees for support and is clutching at her belly, her muscles aching from the sudden exertion.

She finally manages to stammer out, between labored breaths and spontaneous giggles, ”Oh...oh my! I...I dunno if the gods would find that funny, or the rest of town...but I thought that was amazing!”

Draxtherian arches an eyebrow at Hollie, looking back and forth to the pair, muttering to himself ”I think it is kind of disrespectful to the gods, if you ask me...”

Shaedeen briefly seemed stunned that Hollie bust a gut laughing at her words...mainly since she hadn't meant them as a joke. Still, there was something refreshing about this particular Sandpointer. Opposites attract. Different sides of the same coin, maybe, the teen thought. She'd never made friends with anyone as easily or naturally as it had happened with Hollie.

"I suppose it is rather disrespectful," she admitted to Draxtherian. "But the gods have never really done anything to earn respect from me."

”You are alive, aren’t you?” he asks in return to the foreign girl. The connotation of his question intones that he did not expect an answer, and he punctuates it by turning and walking over to Matthias and Jessalina.

”Anything interesting in your book?” he asks the pair.

Hollie stands back up to a normal posture, letting out a ”Whew!” as she recovers from her humorous outburst. ”Thanks for that. Draxtherian has a way of being so serious and focused all the time. I needed a distraction from that prayer looming on the horizon.”

Shae nods at Hollie but stares daggers at the back of Draxtherian as the dragon pads over to Matt and Jes.

"I suppose it's best if I let him get in the last word, correct?" she asks Hollie softly.

"Maybe I can help you work on your prayer," the teen suggests. Having some experience and skill at telling others what they want to hear, Shae suggests that Hollie use uplifting and hopeful words and phrases like 'boon,' 'together,' 'bright future,' and 'strong, united community.'

Hollie giggles at Shae’s statement. ”You imply that it’s possible to NOT let him have the last word!”

Hollie listens to Shae’s advice, but as she finishes, she replies ”I appreciate the help, truly. But let’s have some more fun before the festival winds down for the day! See anything else you like to do?” Hollie asks.

A small throat clears itself just behind Hollie and Shaedeen. When you turn you see a young local boy named Holt looking a bit nervous and wonder struck as he gazes at Hollie.

"Umm, Ms. Skyborn? Father Zantus sent me to tell you it's time."

Looking past him you can see that people are starting to gather both on and below the dedication staging.

Good luck!" Shae tells Hollie. "Don't worry, remember to breath, and speak slowly but clearly. Do that and nothing can go wrong! If there are any hecklers in the crowd...we'll silence 'em!" The young woman flashes a weapon that appears to be a black leather sap, grinning like a madwoman.

While Jes is intently looking at the book with Matthias she overhears the boy come to get Hollie and grins before looking back at Matthias "We'll have to spend some time later looking over this, but it's about time for our friend to take the stage and I definitely don't want to miss out on that!"

Jes jumps up and dusts herself off then heads over to Hollie "You'll do great, I just know it!"

Hollie nervously nods to the boy. ”Th...thanks. She turns and smiles at Shae and Jess before heading towards the stage. She curtsies to Father Zantus and the others gathered there before climbing the stairs anxiously, the butterflies now feeling like they were actively trying to fly through her stomach and out into the open air by force.

Okay...here we go...don’t screw up. Don’t screw up...

She steps forward and waits for the gathered crowd to grow silent. [b]”Brothers and Sisters of Sandpoint! Welcome guests! My name is Hollie Skyborn, and I was fortunate enough to have grown up here in our little town! Though, unfortunately, I was not here for the Late Unpleasantness to try and help, however I may have been able. Even so, I have grieved with the rest of you at what we lost that day,” she begins, hanging her head in rememberance of the loss the entire community suffered in those days. She then lifts her head and says boldly ”But this is not a day for sadness and grieving! For five years we’ve paid tribute to the loved ones we lost and the damage this town suffered. Stone by stone. Day by day. And after five years of toil and mourning, we now have this beautiful cathedral standing behind me!” she says gesturing to the large structure she herself had helped build.

She pauses a moment to take the completed structure in before turning back to the crowd, ”Father Zantus has honored me the privilege of performing the dedication prayer over the Cathedral. It is an honor I hardly deserve, but one I shall do my best to live up to, in memory of those who we lost. Would you join me?”

She then looks to the heavens and holds her arms and hands to the sky. ”Honored gods, I pray to you that you bless this holy place, and all the people who shall pay homage to you within its walls. May Lord Abadar bless it with prosperity for all of its days, Lady Desna guide weary travelers to the comforts and respite of its halls, Erastil continue show us how to treat one another as an extended family, may Gozreh always bring our sailors home to praise him, Sarenrae continue to bless us with patience beyond the cathedrals completion and to be honest with one another, in both heart and mind, and may Shelyn help us to love one another, even in times when doing so may prove difficult.”

She lowers her arms and face back to the crowd, her anxiety fading now that it is done. Then, a glowing smile paints itself on her face and she calls out ”Alright, you guys from here know that I’m not one for these kinds of speeches! Let’s get back to having fun!”
