Colvyn "Slick" Dashtail
Before leaving the stable.
Colvyn looks at the barding, making small adjustments if need be. He then turns to the nobleman. "Thank you, it's good to see that not all nobles here are jerks." He climbs on Phasgan and follows the rest of the group out of the village.
What type of barding is it exactly?
-----------Later------------
Holding the long spear somewhat awkwardly, Colvyn answer back to Kargas. "While I'm not too worried about Phasgan getting spooked, I'd rather not have him getting hurt." He looks around, trying to find the best spot to leave the mounts.
Sir Aldern Foxglove NPC
"Thank you, it's good to see that not all nobles here are jerks."
"Hah!" Sir Aldern laughs.
"Nobles are taught that they only need be polite to their social equals. But I like to think that those of us in the Gentry are a bit more grounded than the aristocracy. We have more day-to-day dealings with the commons than those higher up."
"Someone of my station is expected to manage an estate and administer a village. But I long ago learned that the the village reeve is quite capable of managing the village without me. Any attempts I have made to meddle have never been... useful. So I suppose I have a different perspective."
What type of barding is it exactly?
Masterwork Studded Leather. There is no armor check penalty so creatures that are not proficient can still wear it with no penalty.
Rune GM
"Shouldn't we leave the horses hobbled somewhere?"
"While I'm not too worried about Phasgan getting spooked, I'd rather not have him getting hurt." He looks around, trying to find the best spot to leave the mounts.
Kargas and Colvyn look around and determine a decent spot to hobble the mounts. Phasgan and Bellum are left behind with orders to "guard."

As the group penetrates into the Tickwood the conversation ebbs to a whisper, as the group hopes to detect a boar before it spots the group.
Sure enough, Cade, Colvyn, and Floredana hear a snuffling sound in the trees up ahead. Something is moving in the undergrowth. It's coming this way!
Surprise Round (Round 0):
Block 1: Cade, Colvyn, and Floredana
Cade, Colvyn, and Floredana are up!
The sound is coming from the question mark.
Floredana Mandulescu
A pit forms in her stomach when she catches ear of the sound. Flo quickly points her finger in the direction of the snuffling. Then she releases a cloud of familiar butterflies to cover Kargas' wielded weapon. "Desna guides your strike Kargas! Take it down!" This is it! THIS IS IT!

For the record guys, any square that is fully or mostly covered in foliage will be difficult terrain. But squares that have a visible break (such as the ones to the right of Laurana) are considered open, even though the foliage "spills over" into them from the sides.

Unsure of what made the noise, Colvyn looks around himself to find a good hiding spot. He finds a thicker spot in the bushes near him. It just takes a second, and Colvyn is almost completely out of sight.
Laurana Kanan
Unsure what to do, Larauna did the only thing she could think of and cast a protective spell on herself.

Cade Goodbarrel
Cade rides along being very quiet, which is unusual for him. He looks at the spear that was given him.
This thing is three or four times as tall as me. How the hell am I going to use this thing.
When the noise is heard he looks around for a nice space to plant the spear. Making sure that a tree is to his back, he keeps his eyes moving from side to side ad he places the butt of the spear at the base of the tree.
No way I can stand in the open against a charging boar but maybe this will help me if we find one.
Perception: To see the boar or any other boars in the area: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Cade doesn't notice signs of anything else.
Cade & Colvyn: in your posts you said that you moved but your figures haven't moved on the map. Where are you going? If you are unable to move your icon on the map, give me directions and I can move your figure for you.
I will give you guys a little while and then make a judgement call.
Also, Cade: Bracing the spear is basically the same as readying an attack. But you can't move more than 5' and do that in the surprise round, unless you have some ability to make a move and a standard action in a surprise round.
Colvyn "Slick" Dashtail
Sorry, forgot to move him. I'm currently at work, so I can't move him. If someone could move him 10 ft toward the unknown creature, that would be nice.

Whatever is making the snuffling sound comes around from behind the trees, and emerges on the trail ahead. Sure enough, it is a boar! It sees the party, and it's hackles rise. Always territorial, the boar stamps its feet and glares at Kargas as it prepares to charge!
Colvyn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Floredana: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Round 1 Initiative:
Block 1: Kargas, Laurana, Rig
Block 2: The Boar!
Block 3: Cade, Colvyn, and Floredana
Kargas and Rig are up! The boar clearly intends to charge Kargas, who is in plain sight. Which means that the boar will likely be in the square directly east of Kargas after it's attack unless Kargas moves or someone else gets in the way.
Kargas: if you plan to use the boar spear and brace for a readied attack, go ahead and roll your attack. Remember that Flo has given you a bit of luck so you can roll to hit twice and take the better result. You also do double damage if you brace against a charge.
Cade & Colvyn: FYI you both have concealment (20% miss chance) from the boar. However, the boar will also have concealment from your attacks as well (though Colvyn, once the boar is right in front of you you won't have a miss chance). It looks like either the boar hasn't seen either of you, or doesn't care that you are there. If either of you would prefer to be in a different square, let me know where you want to be before the boar makes its attack.
Those of you who aren't up yet can make a conditional post with what you want to do after the boar goes. It is pretty easy to predict what it is going to do.

Kargas is a savage. Silly boar, Kargas charge you!
Rune GM
In Soviet Russia, you charge boar! :)
Trying to HOG the spotlight, Kargas charges, and impales the boar on his spear! The boar shrieks and blood gushes from the wound and the boar's mouth!
The boar thrashes and stabs at Kargas with its tusks!
Gore: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 181d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The boar strikes a deep wound into Kargas' belly!
Kargas: from the damage roll you made I assume you are raging. Therefore your base HP should be 14 and you have 1 left.

Everyone is up! Kargas is now in the way so ranged attacks will have penalties for cover and for firing into melee.
Cade Goodbarrel
Thanks Kargas. What the hell did I do to you. You go running off and force me to chase after you and some pork. Come on, you could have waited for me at least.
As Cade makes his way up beside Kargas he notices the wound.
Well that had to hurt.
Cade keeps his eyes on the Boar but over his shoulder he informs his companions of Kargas' condition.
Flo you might want to get up here with some of that healing. Kargas is going to need some more stitches.
HE nods towards Kargas.
Rest easy friend, we got this....I think you should take the cheek meat when we are done here. It is the best part. Nice and tender.

Rig runs up behind Kargas and touches his shoulder sending positive energy into the wound made by the boar.

I was raging, but I forgot the Power Attack damage! The damage was for raging Str (+7 two-handed) + Power Attack (+3 two-handed). So my crit was missing another 6pts of damage, I goofed. Would prefer not to retcon to keep things moving.
After Flor has gone:
Kargas staggers as the boar not only stays standing, but even manages to rip its tusks into his stomach. Grinning through pain, the half-orc eyes the animal with newfound respect. "That blow would have killed any normal pig," the berserker laughs as Rig's healing magic stitches his torn flesh back together. "You will make many fine meals, o king of boars!"

I can work that in, that's fine. So that's 33 damage instead of 27. Still not enough to kill it.
Mind you, had you braced to receive its charge instead of charging yourself, you would have done double damage. :) You wouldn't have received the +2 to hit for charging, but then it would have a -2 penalty to AC.
Cade moves up and gets a close look at the boar. Laurana follows Colvyn through the bushes, and Rig runs forwards, healing Kargas with a touch.
Kargas thrusts again with his spear but the point merely grazes the boar's side. Close... the boar has AC 18.

Cade steps to the side just a bit and stabs his weapon at the boar.
This think is tough. I claim the tender loin when we are done. I have a recipe for a nice Diablo Sauce that I was hoping to taste one day.
Laurana Kanan
Laurana drops the silly spear as it was getting tangled in the brush, she did not know what to to with it anyway and followed Colvyn.
Through the brush, can she see the boar? If it is still alive that is.
Colvyn "Slick" Dashtail
Dopping the spear, Colvyn moves foward and gets his bow ready. Not sure if I will have time to use it, but at least I'll be in position.
On my phone, I'll move Colvyn when I get home. Sorry for not posting the previous round. Having a bad week.

With Kargas' and Cade's thrust, the boar collapses into the mud of the trail. It is completely dead.

If anyone had Knowledge (nature) they probably could have told you that boars tend to fight on to their last breath (i.e. they have the Ferocity ability). That and a good CON score makes for a nasty combo. He was taking 1 point of damage every time he attacked after Kargas' first hit.
Feel free to RP for a bit and I will be able to post again in the morning.
Floredana Mandulescu
"Kargas, are you Ok?!" she almost screams as the beast finally collapses. "Don't move, don't move, I have just the thing!" With a hand on his shoulder trying to keep him from moving, she sends more positive energy into his deep wounds.

As the boar gives a final shudder and collapses to the ground, Kargas bellows victoriously and then staggers a bit as the light fades from his tattoos. "Thanks," he rumbles as Flor heals him again. "I'm gonna sit down for a minute, but then I want his heart."
Rune GM
I would guess maybe Advanced template too?
Yes. :) Although it wouldn't have made a difference in how much damage it could take. A non-advanced boar takes 35 points of damage to kill. The first hit would have put it below zero either way, and the second hit killed it either way.
Sir Aldern Foxglove NPC
With most of his wounds closed, Flo starts to calm down. "Well that was quite the event! Sir Foxglove, how was that for a boar hunt?!"
"Incredible! I have never seen it done like that. Apparently the trick is to be even more savage than the beast you are hunting!"
Sir Aldern turns to Floredana.
"Though it seems that without your help, that boar might have got the best of him. Surely Desna shines though you, my most Azure Lady!" Aldern leans over to kiss Floredana's hand.
He winks as he rises, and turns back to the Kargas.
"Surely you must get the credit for the kill, my friend. Do you wish the head as a trophy? As for the rest, dear Ameiko at the Rusty Dragon can work wonders with pork."
Rune GM
The group gathers around the carcass as Kargas rests, recovering his energy after raging. Still high on adrenaline, the group chatters with one another about the experience.
Kargas still has 4 damage unless you want to do some more healing.
When he is feeling rested, Kargas begins cutting the heart from the beast. The blood no longer pumps, but it is still hot and it pours out of the beast's chest, steaming in the cool autumn air.

Block 2: The Bug
Everyone but Colvyn is up. FYI the bless spell Colvyn cast earlier has expired. Also, Kargas is fully rested from raging.
Floredana or Colvyn: If you like you can have done something to heal Kargas before the bug appears.
Floredana Mandulescu
Flo finsihes off her healing with a wave of positive energy, washing over everyone with it's warmth. She beams with joy as Aldern compliments her faith. "Thank you Sir, I do what I can to help my friends!" It feels so good to be appreciated for my work!
"Your prize is well deserved Kargas!" she comments as he pulls the heart from the beast's carcass. A little odd, but he comes from an entirely different culture. I'll ask him more about it later!
The rustling of the next challenger draws her out of her thoughts. She quickly draws her starknife, "What is that thing? Never a dull moment it seems!"

Laurana leans in to get a closer look at the innards of the boar but physically blanches when Kargas starts to consume the heart. That is not very academic!
Hearing something in the brush, she pulls out her bow, which she knows will be of little use if another boar comes rushing out.
Cade Goodbarrel
Cade watches as Foxglove fawns over Flo. He smiles and walks over to the boar and pulls out the spear. He does not give any indication that he heard the slight directed his way. He knows that he and the others all helped in their own way.
Sure...Kargas did all the work and Flo was the only one to heal Kargas when he decided it was a great idea to charge a boar alone and leave the rest of the team behind. Very true that no one aided at all....It seems Sir Foxglove fancies Flo to the point that no one else matters.
Cade looks at the boar spear and shakes his head and drops the spear.

He draws his weapons and moves them around to let the sunlight reflect off the metal.

We got some company, Kargas you best finish your snack and get back to work.
He quickly surveys the terrain and decides that it is best for him to draw the thing out into the open where his companions can work together to take this thing out.
Come on over little bug. I will not bite you..now stab you in the face...well that may very well happen...just so you know.
His smile is back and he hums a little tune. He sets his feet and prepares to stand his ground against the bug.
