That works.

I agree that a rogue should have an advantage when it comes to spotting traps. When I play rogues, I always take the Trap Spotter rogue talent at second level because it makes things easier for me and the GM.

I figure this is best to discuss over here. Alice - do you want us to role play what we are doing in town or are you okay with saying - buy 1 acid flask, buy this, do that?
So I was looking at scribe scroll costs - looks like 25 gp for a first level spell? Molasbar - is it okay to pay you at cost for these?
Olo's personal funds are 46 gp + whatever our division of group funds it. Scrolls I consider a personal expense so I will take it out of there. Any recommendations for spells that would be good to have scroll access to? Looking at my list, I see burning hands, ear piercing screen, ray of enfeeblement (my preference as a debuffer).
As far as prepared spells, I was thinking CLW and ray of enfeeblement. Any suggestions? Or, I could do CLWx2.
I think on the buy list we should get enough oil (or is there an equivalent spell that would work?) to get into that room and then whatever we need to buy to kill Tall Jack and his gang. Perhaps making that our first stop when we get back? I think some tanglefoot bags could do serious damage.

I love ear-piercing scream when I play a caster because of the potential daze effect too and you stay further away than burning hands. Of course burning hands and oil is fun. Definitely think we should get some oil. I think Ninivic will need to either start scrounging some components or write a letter back to his Commander with a request for some supplies.
Olofire Stargazer
Very good point about positioning with ear-piercing scream. Olo is cowardly and definitely likes to stand behind people (preferably Reginald and Raseri).
I'm thinking we should try to chat up the guy who has been hanging out and drinking by himself. Figure out who he is, what he knows, etc. Looks like a task for our party face - Raseri!

Would the Grease spell mimic the lantern oil's effect on the sticky substance in that room with the chest? I bet you'd probably have to make a spellcraft check to know that for sure. Hm. It might end up being more expensive than just buying the oil if nobody knows the spell yet, haha.
Also, regarding burning hands and small corridors: Noooo!
If we end up doing anything above ground, though, it's a much more solid choice.

I don't intend to make you roleplay every instance in town, although something simple like "Olo goes to the trading post and unloads what they found" kind of thing would be nice.
Generally speaking, about the town:
- You can sell most common items for 1/2 price with Rasmus with no bartering. If you want to get more in-depth with the scene you might be able to barter with him. You might get better prices elsewhere but that would again involve more effort going around asking, bartering, etc. And I'm not sure if you guys have the social skills for that. :P
- Zelkor's Ferry has a purchase limit of 1,000 gp. Anything worth more than 1000 gp, they won't buy from you.
- You can buy pretty much any mundane item in the town somewhere, although if you're buying in large quantities there might not be enough in stock. (FYI: Rasmus currently has 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 1) = 15 flasks of lantern oil in stock.)
- Base value is 220 gp. Magic items below that price have a 75% chance of availability (I'll roll for this). Magic items above that price are unlikely to be here, although there are some minor magical items that you might find if you ask around the businesses.
- For the mages, you'll need to ask around if you want to buy spells for your spellbooks. There's up to 2nd level spellcasting in this town. I'll determine availability of spells.
Also, as an FYI, I'll be away for a lot of this weekend!

There's a link at the top of each page pointing to Obsidian portal. Once there, click on Items tab, and you will find all. Here's a simple copy&paste from there (sorry, can not do better from small iPhone screen):
Gold pieces – 56 (16 + 40 gold crowns)
Silver pieces – 67
Experience – 633 Xp per person
Other:
1xShortbow, 16 arrows
1xHeavy wooden shield
1xBattleaxe (with Reginald)
Five arrows (one is painted red, the rest are simply steel) – 4 normal arrows, 1 arrow +1
A roughly-hewn palm-sized hunk of garnet.
A suit of chainmail (very shiny and polished, but somewhat sticky)
Molasbar
Hint taken! I think Molasbar is holding it currently?
Yeah, but when my appraisal attempt was so pathetic, I mentioned hoping someone else would take it to get checked. Perhaps our "face"? Or at least someone of a race that the dwarf may not have a bias against? :)
Bryce Sidanris
I have days and even weeks when I log on and check like 10 times a day. And then I have weeks like this when I can't find 5-10 minutes of peace and quiet (needed for posts in here), if my life depended on it :-(
Just FYI - I did not disappear or anything, sill here and willing to play, but can't find enough time/(mind) strength to make a decent out of combat post. Consider that Bryce is fine with selling everything (aside from +1 arrow), and would advise to purchase cold iron, silver or similar weapons. Also potions (Wand of CLW) a plenty. I have no issues pooling our resources - giving away larger part of "my cut" to buy whatever is needed for the party.
Olofire Stargazer
As far as potions of CLW go (I don't think we can afford a wand yet) there may be another cheaper way. I can memorize CLW x 2 and then maybe the group can pool to pay the costs of scrolls for spells I would otherwise memorize (ray of enfeeblement, ear piercign scream)?
Molasbar
Well, one nice thing about having a potion or two on hand is that anyone can give them to an unconscious character, including Olo if he's knocked out. I would lean more toward getting Olo scrolls of CLW than scrolls for the other spells.
Raseri Whitescale
Grats. I wish you luck.
Olofire Stargazer
Congrats on the exam!
Very ominous looking new avatar, Alice. Does this mean we're all going to die soon?
@Molasbar - good point about the scrolls. I was hoping you could make whatever scrolls we needed but CLW is not on your spell list so we would have to buy those? Also, the scrolls wouldn't help anyone else in the event Olofire dies or is unconscious (have to go back to the potions).
Shopping wise I am happy with having the oil. There is nothing else Olofire really needs. Just depends on what we want to do regarding the CLW potions vs scrolls.
The only other thing Olo needs to do in town is talk to the drunk guy (after finishing his conversation with Raseri). Then he's ready to go. Sorry if I'm holding everyone up!
So are we buying anything else to deal with Tall Jack & the gang?
Raseri Whitescale
We already have oil, might want to see about getting some Alchemist's fire, acid, and maybe some alkaline solution.
Molasbar
Molabar doesn't have any specific needs to buy just yet, other than the fact that he started low on rations. Does someone have a little time to crunch the numbers on purchases for the group? If no one else does, I'll try to do so later on.
GM Alice
If Olo and Molasbar work together, Molasbar can scribe scrolls that Olofire knows. Check out the 'Requirements' header here.
Raseri Whitescale
Yes, holy water, get it.
Oh and if you're in the CotCT game, it's here.
Olofire Stargazer
Okay so 1 holy water (is that 20 or 25 gp? My work blocks the SRD even though it allows this) and 1 scroll of ear-piercing scream (25 gp). Do I have the prices right?
Because I can put the 50 gp towards that, have my spells as CLW x 1 and ray of enfeeblement and I'm set to go (unless everyone things I should do CLW x 2, but let me know quick!).
Reginald D'Loria
Question:
Did we encounter any artisans in town that are capable of crafting artistic molds for metalwork? I guess a variety of people might be capable of firing a mold. A potter or a jeweler or something? Reginald wants to get something done in the morning.
GM Alice
Holy water is 25 gp each.
Scribing a 1st-level spell (CL 1st) takes 2 hours and costs 12.5 gp (you pay half the base price to craft items). You'd also have to make a DC 6 Spellcraft, Craft (calligraphy) or Profession (scribe) check.
However, I just looked this up... the creator has to have the spell prepared and expend it to craft the scroll. So you'd have to wait until the morning to do that, and then have one spell used for the day.
Ear-piercing scream scroll: Unavailable (1-25): 1d100 ⇒ 7
... Aaand unfortunately Rasmus Pye doesn't have any scrolls of ear-piercing scream in stock, so you can't buy one.
CLW scroll: Unavailable (1-25): 1d100 ⇒ 84
Ray of enfeeblement scroll: Unavailable (1-25): 1d100 ⇒ 45
These two are in stock, though. Although you'd pay full price for it (25 gp).
Reginald: The blacksmith's wife is a potter, actually. So between the two of them I'm sure they would consider whatever it is you're planning.
Olofire Stargazer
I certainly don't think it is a good idea to have Molasbar start one spell down for the day, and waiting that long seems too long.
How does everyone feel about buying 2 "group" CLW scrolls, total cost 50gp or about 8 gp, 3 sp each?
Also, Alice, was the guy in the bar going to respond to me? ;)
I'm sure it was an oversight what with our multiple conversations occuring at different time points AND Raseri/AdamWarnock's campaign starting.
Reginald D'Loria
@Alice - Sweet!
I was going to post about it, but I think I'll wait until the next time we get to town. We don't really have enough money to do what I want yet, and we need to buy all these consumables and stuff. The information is helpful for next time!
Raseri Whitescale
Something I wanted to share. It's Raseri from the neck up. Not bad considering that I haven't been drawing much lately. This was her first incarnation.
Reginald D'Loria
That's pretty good! She looks tough. :O I actually used to be a pretty active artist, but it didn't really pay the bills, so I had to do other things. Maybe I'll draw some of our characters from one of the campaigns at some point since you've kind of inspired me!
Raseri Whitescale
It doesn't pay my bills either, but I tend to get down when I don't draw, so there's the mental health benefits. I've been looking for images and photos of longsword combat stances so I can try and do a full portrait some time. I'd be glad to see whatever it is you wind up doing and that I inspired you to pursue something you like. Never done that before. :D
Olofire Stargazer
Sorry, I think I was holding everyone up with that silly role-playing stuff... ;) I'm done now. Whatever our final GP is the stuff Olo wants to buy (holy water x 1) he can certainly afford. Also, is everyone okay with buying 2 scrolls of CLW? or 2 poitions? or some combination. Otherwise, I'm good to go if we want to fast-forward to the next morning when we leave.
Raseri - very nice work! I'd love to see more if you have it posted.
GM Alice
I believe that included the garnet, Ninivic.
Also nice work Raseri! I haven't drawn for ages myself. I mostly leave the art to my (currently-in-animation-school) girlfriend, lol.
Everyone, where are you headed when you go back into the dungeon? Just so I can cut to the chase and plop you back where you want to be...
