GM, just to let you know that in the main page Go to Rannik's Crypt of the Everflame" my perception check is now at +6
Kyras Darksoul |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Leveling up!
Kyras takes another level of Inquisitor of course.
He gains Studied Target and Studied Strike and his Unfailing Logic increases to +2 (+2 vs illusions and the like).
His BAB increases by 1 to 3 and his Reflex and Will saves increase by 1 as well. And he gains access to 2nd level spells. He gets two for free. Unsure if we have found a spellbook or not. Likely he will want to buy a few more to add to his book.
And he gets 10 skill points.
How are we doing hit points again?
Tamora |
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Taking average then.
Kyzen |
Leveling up!
Kyzen takes another level of Kineticist.
He gains a Wild Talent
- Earth Climb : Gain a climb speed on earth and stone
HP Kyzen: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
He picked "Dexterity" for his Ability Score Bonus
Perception +7
Kyras Darksoul |
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Looks like average for me as well, unless we are rerolling 1s. :)
Updating my alias now.
Kyras Darksoul |
Ok. So no taking the average then...
Reroll of HP: 1d8 ⇒ 8
That worked out well for me. :)
Kyras Darksoul |
@Kyras, you still have Hunclay's spellbooks.
Gathering everything, the group return to the manor. Now that all the traps and other obstacles have been cleared, it is easy to return to the wall of light blocking the way out of the cell. "Is that you? Are you back? Did you find the cave?" The familiar voice calls from beyond the light.
I think you were going to detail these books for us? While we need to turn them in to the baroness alchemist can learn spells from wizards spellbooks so they my contain spells Kyras can scribe into his formulary.

Kyras Darksoul |
Nice. Thanks! So aside from the expensive magic books that we really cannot afford, there are only the scrolls and potions that are adventuring gear. If we had a summoning focused PC that book of extended summoning might be worth it...
Can we just take the gold in this case: the 2800, or must we choose items for our reward? If we are paying list price for the items we are better off with the gold, unless its a unique item that cannot usually be bought.

Kyras Darksoul |
Great list. So, we still have the first spellbook. Do you have a sell value for it?
Here are the spells Kyras could potentially scribe into his Formula Book. Not as much overlap as I had hoped. Too many conjuration spells in those books. :)
Of course he has scribing costs for each. 10 gp for first level, 40 for second level, and 90 for third level. I have numbered the spells in priority to learn. Not gonna worry about the 5th level spells for now. Too far away in his career. If I have the gold, any issue in learning all 10?
Level 1
Ant Haul -8
Identify -9
Level 2
Blur -6
Resist Energy -2
Darkvision -5
False Life -4
See Invisibility -3
Spider Climb -10
Level 3
Fly -1
Protection from Energy -7
Level 4
None
Level 5

Is 3k our reward money or credit?
Tamora |
Yeah, I think I'll make a post in gameplay thread after GM answers question or someone links me to the thread that clarifies my question.
Kyras Darksoul |
Yep. We need to understand that reward. If its cash, lets keep it. If not maybe we can purchase things that are like jewelry that can be resold for full price. Baring that we should get the potions and scrolls I guess.
And I think we need to completely updated loot list with values so we know where we stand GP wise, for equipment upgrades. I suppose that is on us to compile.
Tamora |
560 gold after the birds + 554 gold from the cave if I recall.
Kyras Darksoul |
That includes the books and the dust? Was not sure we even had values for the books.
Rannik |
The reward is a credit of 3K on the stuff from the manor.
Since you released the bird, that action reduced the credit to 2.8K.
So, if you want the potions, it would come to 500 gp.
Value : 3,300 gp
Credit: 2,800 gp
New price: 500gp
Now for the loot:
The cave:
11,300 cp, 7,200 sp, 1,800 gp, and 60 pp
Total in GP : 3233 gp
Four rare antique tomes on astronomy written in Ancient Osiriani; each is worth 1,000 gp.
Fifth book : Secrets of the Dreaming Dark : Unique, value : ???
enhanced dust of darkness : 2 left, 600 gp each, cast Deeper Darkness
Wolves pelts: 10 gp for all
Worg pelt: 10 gp
From the Manor:
Wand of Lightning Bolt (5th level, 5 charges left)
Bottle of wines taken from storage : No value, good for roleplay!
Kyzen |
Kyzen as no interest except for the wine...
Tamora |
Good thing we can get one for 8 gp.
Anyways, the books are the stand outs for us but we can just borrow it.
Hoga the half orc |
I prefer to ditch the potions. They're expensive. Let's just do cash and divvy it up. Hoga will take the wand, though he's gonna have to roll to use it until he's 5th level. He doesn't have much for ranged weapons. Just a dagger and a sling.
Kyras will want all the spells he can manage.
What's it all add up to if we do that?
Kyras Darksoul |
Hoga,
1) No, if the spell is on your list and you have any caster levels at all I am pretty sure you do not have to roll to use a wand. Happy blasting. :P
2) Kyras does not hurt the value of the books by copying from them. So no loss of coin there.
We have 2800 in credit that we do not get unless we use it. That is why I recommended we take the potions. Alternatively we could take that summoning book IF Tamora ever wants to summon.
And last, we will need a sell value for that first book we found on the wizard's body as we can sell that one.
Hoga the half orc |
Oh, yeah, you're right! I was thinking about scrolls! lol. I don't play much these days.
OK. I thought I understood, but I didn't. Let's take the potions, then.
Can you appraise the book? I guess you already tried. As you can see, I forgot some details.
Hoga will get a donkey and a pack for it to carry the wine. 13 gp. It could be useful if we need to haul something heavy.
Rannik |
The value of Hunclay's spellbook is 10K
We have 2800 in credit that we do not get unless we use it. That is why I recommended we take the potions. Alternatively we could take that summoning book IF Tamora ever wants to summon.
I don't get this part. Tamora summons all the time, but since her summons have a duration of 1 minute per level, I don't see how extenting that to two minutes per level would help. Also, the book of extended summoning is a one shot item according to the description. I might feel like changing that considering the price of it.
Did I miss any other questions?
Tamora |
Potions and books are the optimal choice if you ask me.
Kyras Darksoul |
I was thinking the book worked like a rod, working 3 times a day. But now I am not at all sure why I was thinking that. Its certainly priced like a rod of extend. And since its limited to summoning it should not cost as much as an unrestricted rod.
When you say "you don't get this part", what do you mean?
My question, I hope is simple. Are we 1) being givine 2800 gp to do with as we need to, or 2) being given 2800 in credit that can only be used to purchase item from the house?
Tamora |
He might be referring to the Tamora's summon ability. I should have added a "excluding book of extended summoning" clause in my previous post. Tamora's ability has a respectable duration already.
Rannik |
The 2800 gp is a credit. You need to use it on stuff from the manor or you lose it.
For the book of summoning, if you really want to go that way, I could change it to function like a rod. I don't think it would be overpowered, but like I said, I don't know if you really need it.
With no fighter and no one with crafting feat, the other two magical books aren't worth it.
For the scrolls, there is only one that Kyras could copy. Hoga can use another one without UMD skill check, but still get a caster check.
So all that could be really useful are the potions.
Or you can just say no and not take anything. I can't move on with the story until you make a decision.
Tamora |
We don't need to spend our credits on all of the potions. We already know firsthand that we might/will be fighting a black dragon so protection from acid would be helpful to shave off the breath weapon damage. As for the other potions, here are my thoughts:
Protection from energy, fire - possible pick
Keen Edge - Passable
Undetectable Alignment - Passable
Tamora might look to borrowing and skimming all the 600 books with help and copy important information that might be useful for their cause. If not able to in time/borrow, she might buy them all. She might also borrow and skim the astronomy books.
As for scrolls, most of them are a pass except magic circle against chaos which we can pick up with our remaining credit if we have some left.
Kyras Darksoul |
Kyras would like that oil of Keen edge, Its quite nice with a good duration too. Would love to crit a dragon. That oil increase my threa chance to 3 in 10, which is not bad.
Hoga the half orc |
I like Tamora's idea. Kyras can take the oil. The acid potion sounds like a must. Let's take the fire one, too. It will probably come in handy.
If she needs more time with the books, Donkey Xote can carry a few for her.
Tamora |
Yes if Tamora can borrow, skim through and copy from those 600 regular and 13 astronomy books information related to their quest. Still waiting for a "yes/no" answer before I can give my thoughts.
Rannik |
You have a 24 hrs period where you can borrow the books. After that, the auction will happen and the books will be sold. Also, nothing stops you from trying to buy them during the auction.
At the same time, I am leaving today for a small 3-4 days vacation. I will have internet access on my phone, but it is not the best to post in gameplay thread.
Tamora |
Any useful info for their quest e.g Aetherax, amulets, rituals, undead, dark tapestry, etc? Tamora is doing the skimming the books and copying info with help. That means she will look at the table of content and navigate to the important chapters that have related information.
