"Eshenvral Kothiavus reporting for the roll of science officer. My report is as follows; Arcane dynamos have been calibrated. Spell lattice structures have been laid. Planar infusion rate is within acceptable parameters. In summary, all techno-magical systems are operating at peak levels of efficiency. We are prepared for launch on your mark, captain."
:D
Looking forward to when we start up, far off as it is.
Phylotus |
I look forward to it as well :-)
Just as a quick note, I will be in the midst of a(nother) move in January, so my posting may be a little sporadic at first.
And questions: what are we limited by here? I don't expect to be playing something way out there like a Barathu, but I am liking the look of playing an alien race :-P specifically at the moment I'm looking at playing a Ryhporian who aspired to become one of the Skyfire Legion, but washed out of basic training before even meeting his dragonkin and leaving Triaxus out of shame (shame mostly born of his own hangups). Lemme know what you think.

Lemme know what you think.
Should be fine. Work out your background a bit more and message me at some point. Keep in mind I'm starting 17+ years AG earlier than the official starting point; probably won't make too much of a difference, but it might.
Speaking of which, Campaign Info actually has some basic stuff filled in, if you want to check it out.
Phylotus |
Well, part of it as I see it is that it can effectively increase your strength modifier, can effectively be wielding more than one weapon at once, and (potentially) have different maneuverability options, like with the spider harness and the flight frame while still having the other upgrade slots in the armor. It's less a complete upgrade and more of a sidegrade, I feel. More like exotic weapons in Pathfinder.

So we have:
Captain Quinn (Mystic, Captain)
Eshenvral Kothiavus (Technomancer, Science officer)
Unnamed Ryphorian (Solider? Gunner?)
Unnamed character for Atlas2112) (Unknown class, either engineer or pilot)
I plan on throwing at least one NPC onboard to take some ship-board position and secondary combat assistance of some sort, as well.
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gorn Steelbreaker, reporting for duty.
"Battle does not need a purpose.
Battle is its own purpose.
You do not ask why a field burns or a plague spreads.
So, do not ask why I fight," the big man grates out, his steel-clad battle fists opening and clenching as if in eager anticipation of GLORIOUS COMBAT.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
"How very charming of you, human." Eshenvral states in a dull drone.
Gorn Steelbreaker |
"I do not mean to be charming," Gorn replies in a baritone deadpan as a meaty fist reaches across the table and rips an entire leg from the roasted pig between him and the elf. He attacks it with a ferocity and under a minute all traces of meat have disappeared. He wraps both melon-sized fists around the thick legbone and effortlessly snaps it in half, pausing to suck the marrow from the bones before tossing the two halves aside and searching for something more substantial.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
The Elf sneers from behind his mask,
feeling whatever apetite he held drain away. "Over five thousand years of cultural development and your race continues to produce members as savage as the day they crawled from the mud. I've seen orcs with more civility then you."
----
Well, at least we know who has the role of Garbage Disposal. ;P
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gorn had found a great meat pie and pulled it over to his place. With his fist he broke the hardened crust and began scooping great mounds of it into his mouth with a shortsword that he called a 'knife'. He chuckles deeply, like a wardrum calling the battle, and pauses in decimating the pasty to reply to the elf. "Cultural development by whose standard? The art of war is of vital importance to the state, and no state can call itself civil without it.
If you want to discuss civility, go and ask the Carthaginians or the Babylonians how they are doing in their "cultural development," then we shall see how good manners and drinking tea with pinky extended rate as the years pass."
Gorn chuckles again, knowing he had won, and returns to devouring the meat pie.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
I really hope you refrain from making out of universe references in game. :p

Gorn Steelbreaker, reporting for duty.
What do you see Gorn's position shipboard being? I had thought you were making someone who would be engineering or pilot-y. Not that your character needs to do either of those, but I really prefer a PC in the position of pilot, at least, to add to the excitement of ship combat.
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Mrmmph. I've played some Starfinder since then and it seems like the Pilot is the position that most can, and maybe should, be played by an NPC.
Determining where the ship goes is mostly the Captain, and the Pilot just tries to roll for the Evade maneuver(because there isn't really any other maneuver that's worth it.)
The Pilot skill adds to the defenses, but otherwise the position seems a bit...mute? Redundant? Superfluous?
Idunno, I could shift the point from Computers to Pilot, take the Ace Pilot theme, and have a decent bonus and slide in to that roll if that's the consensus.
What's Malavine up to? They still making a soldier?
rando1000 |
No, it's fine. If you're not into the role, don't take it. I just don't want space combat to be an NPC cavalcade, is all. I'll make it work either way. Two PC gunners is also a possibility, assuming that's what Phylotus' Ryphorian Soldier ends up doing.
rando1000 |
Okay, great, sounds good. I'll work on my NPC as engineer then. It seems healing isn't a super-critical role in this game, though I can add an doctor medic type if it becomes necessary. Otherwise, Judicious use of Stamina and Resolve points will probably suffice.
rando1000 |
Chiming in!
question: what's Quinn's theme? Eshenvral is a Scholar, Gorn is a Mercenary, Phylotus' character unknown (but potentially Mercenary or Ace Pilot). I'm working on an NPC and considering making her an Outlaw, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
Oh! Well, that changes a few things...
Captain Olivia Quinn |
By the way, I'll update Quinn's bio to be more Starfinder friendly soon, unless her being from the Milky Way galaxy is okay (probably not lol)
Oh and yeah Quinn is an Outlaw.
Captain Olivia Quinn |
Actually, now that I think about it, her being from the Milky Way might be interesting... since there is no known way to actually travel that far, it could be an accident that she has no idea how to repeat. Would also explain why Vera Gemini didn't make the journey with her, she was doing a job solo when Quinn had her 'accident.' :D Up to you though.

I'm okay with it. Our world (ish) exists in Golarion canon, so no reason why not.
Captain Olivia Quinn |
Alright, cool so I'll leave her bio mostly as is then, just change it to she ended up on Absalom Station instead of the planet itself. :)
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
Sounds interesting. Man, now that I know you want the star empire to be our enemy, I kinda wish I'd brought my Azlanti operative along. Ah well, I'll keep him as a backup.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
"As long as you stay out of my way human, we'll be fine."
Still need to update things to your specified parameters, but he should be good to go by the time you want us to start.
SerpentViolet |
Hello All, I'm playing the android operative.
First off, Randall, if I post something that should be better addressed privately than via this forum, let me know.
I also wanted to query the people here whether they recommend I stay signed up for the newsletter, marketing info, updates, and Pathfinder Society Organized Play.
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gorn is bicep-curling something that that closely resembles a small car as the human engineer walks by. "Stop siphoning the ionic fluid out of these things, small one," he grunts as he tosses his weight down, it's bulk clanging loudly against the thick deck. "It's throws the weight off," he comments, pausing to flex and see how his pumpitude is doing as the engineer leaves the room.

Rando,
In buying my gear of course I can't afford all the tasty goodies I'd like. Before I commit to weapons, I was wondering if we can expect our foes to have better firepower than we do that we can loot for our own upon defeating them.
While this is a little esoteric (I think that's the right word), I was wondering what the Dwarves we're helping speak, Dwarven or "Zothunic" or Gardathir or some such permutation.
I think I can fit in as 2nd gunner. Do I need a feat for proficiency? I haven't chosen my one precious feat yet but I'd like it to be something other than Starship Gunnery. I'd rather take the hit and suffer -4.

Pay him no mind, SerpentViolet. I'm heavily in favor of you calling him Randall here, there, and everywhere, as often as possible. ^_^
I seem to have opened a can of worms. So sorry Rando!

Rando,

Advancement in firepower is a lot more closely controlled in Starfinder than Pathfinder. You can assume that as you gain levels, you'll gain access to level-appropriate equipment. You can also assume you'll make some sort of profit, so you can buy more equipment within your level limits. You CAN'T assume you'll come across a level 6 item before you've reached level 3, for example.
While this is a little esoteric (I think that's the right word), I was wondering what the Dwarves we're helping speak, Dwarven or "Zothunic" or Gardathir or some such permutation.
These Dwarves are descended from Golarion Dwarves, they speak Dwarven and Common.
I think I can fit in as 2nd gunner. Do I need a feat for proficiency?
Nope. Gunnery Check = 1d20 + (the gunner’s base attack bonus or the gunner’s ranks in the Piloting skill) + the gunner’s Dexterity modifier + bonuses from computer systems + bonuses from the captain and science officers + range penalty (page 320).
SerpentViolet |
Guys, do we have Diplomacy covered? I could slot it but it's not one of my class skills and I have a Charisma of 10, so we'd have to be desperate for me to allocate skill ranks.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
I believe that our dear captain has that avenue covered.
Eshenvral Kothiavus |
And like the magician he is, he disappears just as quickly.
