A tall pale woman enters the room. "Greetings all..the paracountess said you might need help since a worthless gnome left for parts unknown. It's obvious mayor that you do need our help and I'm here to lend a hand and my magic. For a small fee." she looks at the party. " Karolina here fellow Pathfinders..."

"I know nothing about paracountesses and the like. And I liked the gnome just fine. He was the most level headed among us..." Wolfgang says as Karolina introduces herself.

"The paracountess Zarta Dralneen the leader of my faction dear man."

I was just thinking of an IC reason why she'd suddenly show up

"100 GP for all of you. I'm afraid." the mayor restates his offer and then replies once more.
"Well most of the archives are in the library but I'm sure Lupia Marietti my very able assistant should be more then able to assist as most of the records have passed her hands one way or the other." as he points out his assistant.

"To the library then?"

The library, finally some where that I may be of some use. I love libraries. Books in particular. Manaria states a little too enthusiastically. "Let's go!

Eris agrees.

"More information is always critical to solving a good mystery."

"Bah! 100 gold! We killed a bugbear. An INFECTED bugbear and a veritable horde of demon tainted goblins! And that's just worth 100 gold to you? If I didn't respect gold so much I would give it back! Instead I'll keep it to remind me of this treatment!" the greedy mercenary comments beofre changing the subject:"To the library I guess... I hope you'll be willing to pay more when we'll save you and your town... AGAIN!"

Once at the library, Lupia Marietti turns to all of you and gives a smile.
"I have indexed most of the entries in here, if you need to search out a keyword or such, I'll bring out as many documents relating to that keyword. I hope to be of help to you heroes."

"I have no idea what it could even be." replies Lupia with a frown obviously disappointed that she didn't have enough knowledge on what it could be.

"I think there could be someone who could help you. Seek out Ildris Ruvarra, the head of the town’s temple." she brightens and waits for the others to ask their questions if any.

What has being covered so far.

Lupia is obvioulsy very much at home in this place as she begins moving like a dance, picking her way through shelves and piles of documents to retrieve Karolina's request.

Soon a sizable pile of documents is stacked neatly infront of you on a table, ready for your perusal.

Karolina looks through some of the documents.

"Interesting.."

"This should be of great assistance," she says. "I cannot think of anything else we would need to research here."

"I won't be of much help here I guess, but I'm sure you bookworms will do a great job of uncovering what the stingy major wants. When you do please let me know. And of course, do the same if you feel like you need me to shoot down some evil books or scrolls... of course!" Wolfgang chuckles giving his companions another free sample of his weird sense of humor.

"Are there any other topics you wish to view?" Lupia asks.

Anything else you wish to find out or shall we just move on with what you have now.

"I've seen all I need to see," Eris responds.

Waiting on party's decision?

"We should go check on this Sarini's mansion of what its name is I s'pose. Nothing beats first hand experience after all. Besides I tire pretty quickly of moldy old tomes like these..." Wolfgang comments caustically.

Karolina looks around at the dust. "Yes I suppose maid service is lacking in the library. To the mansion then?"

"Yes, but I will be coming back. This place needs some organization and thorough cleaning." Manaria says making her way out the door.

"Agreed," Eris says.

The Sarini Estate is located 10 miles northeast from Saringallow proper. It is along a road that is part of the trails known colloquially as the Conerica Paths; however, the specific path that leads to the Sarini Estate is known as Nobles’ Folly. The haughty Sarinis built the estate in a commanding position on a wooded hill looking out over the surrounding landscape, and for decades, it has remained virtually untouched.

It would take about 3 hours from town to get there on foot.
However...................

Some sixty feet ahead on the road, a villager is lying curled on the ground, his hands shielding his face from two ugly, blue-skinned creatures with oversized, wrinkly heads. A centipede as big as a large man hisses menacingly at the desperate, shaking villager, its mandibles oozing with venom. The monsters are covered in a greasy, purplish goo that seems to be growing from their very skin.

"Hey guys, more purple goo." Looking over at the man shaking on the ground. "Maybe we should go save him." Manaria states before running off to confront the creatures.

"If we must. I hope he rewards us for our troubles. Probably a peasant down on his luck"

"No rewards for their heads for sure... a pity! But Karolina might be right and the unfortunate down there could surprise us with his gratitude after all..." comments Wolfgang taking aim at the centipede with his corssbow.

Wolfgang takes a shot against the centipede as soon as possible. Assuming the creature is farther than 30 feet from Wolfgang the rolls below should apply to his attacks

Attack roll 01: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 2 = 20 -> Damage roll: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Attack roll 02: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 2 = 23 -> Damage roll: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Eris also rushes forward, but with a raised eyebrow at her companions.

"Surely we can stoop to assist a defenseless man," she says wryly.

Wolfgang announces the party's presence with a well placed shot that spatters Centipede all over the prone man, elicting a yelp!

"One down, 3 to go!" Wolfgang cheerfully proclaims as he takes aim again, this time targetting 2 of the 3 remaining creatures...

Eris rushes toward the centipede that looks most likely to hurt the man next. She thrusts at it with her rapier.

Didn't see a map, but I'll assume I have enough movement to reach it and attack.

Karolina gets out her wand and points it at the creatures.

Lol. Didn't need the map. They all died before you could identify them at all.

It didn't take very long for the party to handily dispatch them with steel and magic. It takes some time for the man to stop trembling but once danger ahs passed and he's assured of still being alive........

"Thank you for saving my life, Heroes! I am Olaus a simple cowherd looking for a stray calf when I was attacked. If you had not come along, I'll have being dining with my ancestors."

"You've got that last part right Olaus... how much is your life worth to you, exactly?" Wolfgang asks, greedily observing the peasant...

Taken aback at Wolfgang's overbearing greed and then Karolina's shout at him followed by his recent encounter breaks the man as he steps back in fear.
"I was trying to steal something from the Sarini Estate to prove
to my friends I'm not a coward but those things attacked me right outside the estate’s gates and chased me here! All I got are couple of copper pieces. Take it!" he holds out a paltry amount of 4 copper pieces, likely his wages or savings for the week or month.

"We don't want that. What did you see there?" She takes out a silver piece. "This could be yours if you don't lie"

Eris smirks at the man's quick change of course.

"Why did you leave after finding a few coppers?" she asks as she cleans centipede guts from her blade.

"Speak for yourself!" Wolfgang exclaims as he takes the small change offered by the boy with no apparent remorse.

"That's not much but it's the principle that matters. Now... A SILVER PIECE!!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND, WOMAN??? You've got things backwards. We save peasant's hide from untimely and entirely deserved gruesome death, peasant gratefully pays us for sparing our precious time to do so... not the other way around!" the crossbowman shouts, his eyes bulging out of his head.

Then he regains his composure:"Ahemm, yes. As the EXTREMELY GENEROUS lady was saying this is your lucky day, Olaus! Not only you managed to get saved by such exemplar champions of justice as us, but it seems you also get richer for it! Tell us the truth and THE LADY will pay YOU in exchange... best bargain of your life, honest"

Karolina frowns at Wolfgang. Daddy would drain his neck if he heard that fool yelling at me. Champions of justice indeed. At least there's no Dawnflower-ites around

"Ahem..yes dear man a reward for telling the truth"

"I swear that's all I did. Those coins are all I have and I never did managed to make it into the manor. I swear by the gods that watch over us." Olaus pleads while looking at the sliver piece being offered after having his own few coins being taken away.

"Hmmmm..
