GM Ladile |

Hello! Welcome to the game and please make yourselves at home. Unless something changes I'm looking to begin this game on August 25th. In the meantime, feel free to chat here! If you aren't aware, it's possible to post into Gameplay and then delete your post so that the game shows up on your Campaigns tab but Gameplay isn't littered with a bunch of nonsense posts. Please do so if you can because your GM is a little OCD about such things :)
Once you've decided on what character you wish to play, please post the following information:
Player/Forum Name
Character Name
PFS ID#
Faction
Day Job (if applicable)
Thanks and I'm looking forward to our time together! :)

Magabeus |

Hi there,
I have several characters I can bring, depending on tier. Therefore I will wait until we have a more clear view on what the tier will be before I commit on a level.

Zesdead |

Hello everybody!!! Thanks for the lucky numbers and looking forward to the game...
So, I have a grand total of zero PFS characters and therefore kinda flexible as to what class to bring to the table - happy to fit in with what makes for a good balance (although I'd probably prefer to steer clear of things I'm already playing in non-PFS: cleric, fighter, bard and kineticist).

Magabeus |

At low tier I have:
Dhampir Mesmerist lvl 1: no use in combat when dealing with undead or vermin, useful vs humanoids that speak one of his languages, loads of diplomacy and bluff
Grippli Ninja lvl 1: if he gets a flank he is very useful in combat, out of combat diplomacy and disable device
Dwarf Gunslinger (bolt ace) lvl 2: struggles with her heavy crossbow in combat, quite useless out of combat
Given the scenario blurb I prefer the mesmerist.

GM Ladile |

Glad to see people checking in! It looks like Zed and FreakyFlyingElf and probably Adam will all be coming in with brand new characters and since Magabeus wishes to play his mesmerist, I'm pretty confident we'll be playing in the 1-2 sub-tier. FFE expressed interest in playing a witch, if I remember right :)
Since we've got plenty of time until the start date, don't feel pressured to bang out a new character in a day or anything like that! For those new to PFS, feel free to ask whatever questions you might have on things like setting up your PFS ID#, character creation (some options are not PFS-legal for example), etc. :)

GM Ladile |

Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans, happy Tuesday to the rest of the world! And remember kids, it's not a proper rendition of the 1812 Overture unless it has cannons!

GM Ladile |

Hello folks! For those new to PFS Organized Play *or* simply need a refresher course on some things, here's a handy link to a post made in our very own Flaxseed Lodge:
This post contains some handy tips on how to register your PFS characters as well as links to the (free) Roleplaying Guild Guide and to handy how-to-PbP guides. I highly recommend checking them out when you've got some free time :)

GM Ladile |

Ooh, sounds intriguing! I've got two that I've played in non-PFS games; the first was a sword-and-board inquisitor of Iomedae and the other is an archer inquisitor of Shelyn. Sadly Elidal is currently sitting on the shelf since the game she was in petered out but Aleris is still trucking along :)

Guillaume, here is a welcome to Pathfinder boon which you get because you are new to PFS. Our GM will fill the lower portion of the boon later, for now you only need to concern yourself with one question:
Which of the tree options do you want?
1) a potion that can save your life after you have been hit hard?
2) a tattoo that can prevent you from being hit hard?
3) a wand which can cure you five times after you have been hit.
You might notice a preference for option 2 in the way I put things. That is indeed my recommendation. But it is your boon and your character, and therefore also your choice.
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have about pathfinder society in this discussion thread, we will do our best to answer them. Of course the GM will have final say in rules discussions.
For everybody else: you can only receive this boon on your -1 when he/she is level 1.

GM Ladile |

Yes, thank you for reminding me! That is indeed a nifty little boon meant for a player's very first PFS character. I believe that Zesdead is the only one here who qualifies for it but if I'm mistaken on that, please let me know! :)
Re: Rules & Such - Though I'm still hammering out some of my approaches to the more general questions of running a game, I would not classify myself as a strict 'by the book' GM. That being said, PFS is different from a home game in that GMs are expected to more or less run the scenarios as they are presented. This means that I'm not allowed to beef up the challenges or otherwise drastically alter things just because I think it would be more fun/interesting to do so.
Currently I'm running my first scenario as a GM. Once that game finishes, I will probably start to draft some stuff for my GM profile that will explain how I plan to handled initiatives and other basic aspects of my games. However until I get some more experience under my belt such things will be a work in-progress :)

Cool... exciting!!! Certainly the middle of the options seems most favourable... however I can't open the Dropbox link (might be a wi-fi filter on the train) so I will have to wait until later to read it properly and make a decision.

GM Ladile |

To be honest, I'm not sure as I haven't played in that many scenarios myself. Humans seem to show up fairly often as enemies but I'm not sure if that would fit the concept you have in mind!
Also whoops, Zesdead and FFE are both new and qualify for the welcome boon. My mistake!

![]() |

Yes, undead still show up a lot. Maybe not as much as in the early days, but they are a frequent enemy.

Finally came up with a character. Nothing special mechanically. She was born to Taldane commoners that had chips on their shoulders bigger than those found on some dukes'. Her father had some talent with divination magic and named her based off a casting of augury. Unfortunately for poor Dalen, he had guessed that she'd be a he and had already filled out the paperwork and submitted it. Legally, she's a man, but the distinction is too confusing and embarrassing for her to bother with most of the time. She wound up being mostly raised by her not nearly as arrogant aunt and uncle who were trappers in the Border Woods. Her uncle was also a fair brewer and she learned much from him before her overbearing mother became too much for her. After the fifth attempt to get her married off, Dalen fled to Absolom and joined the Pathfinder Society. She has been working with a local brewery to develop new recipes to pass the time, but now she's been shipped off to Magnimar on urgent business.
Fun Fact: Her mother that tacked on the name Fredrica which was allowed by the bureaucrats. Her parents and a particularly stuck-up handmaiden to the local baron's daughter are the only ones to call her that. Dalen is rather embarrassed about the whole ordeal.

GM Ladile |

Sorry it took me a bit to reply to this but I'm liking what I'm seeing for characters so far! In other news, I will open up Gameplay around the start of August for everyone to have a chance to chat with each other a bit and perhaps start to get a feel for their character's personality before we officially start :)

![]() |

Note that I will be on holiday until 7 August and very likely without any internet connection for that period. I don't think it matters for this game, but you never know.

GM Ladile |

Thank you for the notice! I will probably open Gameplay around the start of August for people to do some RP if they like but it won't be anything that anyone is required to do :)

GM Ladile |

Alrighty folks, Gameplay is officially open for pre-start chatter and RP as you desire! I'll continue to monitor and facilitate things as necessary :)
Note that Karayan's player is still out of town for nearly another week and FFE is working on finishing up their PC so there's no rush on anything. I believe Escharid still needs to check in as well, so I will PM them.

![]() |

Cool... I will try and finish feat selection / building for Guillaume this week - Apologies that it has been slow going (finishing off one of my GM'd games, work has been crazy busy and it's the summer holiday period - two little boys underfoot!!!)
...looking forward to starting :)

GM Ladile |

Hey, no worries - we've still got most of this month until we start so there's some time to work on characters or make adjustments before we start :)

![]() |

I could play Eredur (Dwarf wizard L1) or try another character, as you think would be better, Lady L

![]() |

Ok everyone I'm changing my character ..it looks like I already have Makon in the special so I'll play my new cleric:
player/forum name: lucklesshero
Character name: Eamon Valda
PFS ID#: 184087-7
Faction: Silver Crusade
Day Job:none

GM Ladile |

@Escharid - Playing your wizard would be fine! It looks like everyone will be playing 1st level characters and so Eredur would fit in just fine.
@Lucklesshero - Alrighty, sounds good :)

GM Ladile |

Just wanting to say that I *am* reading and keeping up with Gameplay even though I've not said anything. I'm enjoying what I'm seeing!
Also, I just got my scenario in my Downloads today - huzzah! This means I can now officially start prepping the scenario and getting my maps and such in order :)
Also Pt 2. Electric Boogaloo - We officially start two weeks from Friday :DDDD

![]() |

Woo!
Also liking the dynamics that are starting to show. I think we've got some high-society folks who are going to be, well, a little offput by the common, down to earth, ranger. :)

Well, that took a long time!!! Hopefully Guillaume is built correctly but happy for anyone to point out any clangers - will work on backstory and try to get something posted in Gameplay shortly...
Also, w.r.t. Pathfinder Society Boon - do I have to apply it to this first character or can I hang on to it for future endeavours?

You indeed have to apply it to this first character.

Okay then.... Let's go with Tattoo of the Open Road - added to character sheet and good to go :)

To Eamon's player,
I hope you don't take Dalen's hostility personally, but she has a problem with people who put on airs, so to speak. Eamon could not have acted in a more perfect way to earn her antipathy. Don't worry, I'm sure shell warm up to you at some point.
Maybe.

lucklesshero |

No worries this is the whole point of "roll playing" ..I would caution however, to try to remember your character cannot read Eamon's "thought bubbles" so your character is reliant (much as we are), on what a person says and does. Although , Eamon has shown pride, he has made an effort to get along and in his own way apologized. That doesn't necessarily mean your character has to like him, but, much as a person at work or school we don't care for ...most of us don't go out of our way to be hostile. (even though you know from Eamon's thoughts he cares little for others than himself..you'd not be able to conclude that within a few moments of meeting him even with a spectacular sense motive check)
Having said all that, if anyone finds this character's thoughts or manor a distraction or un-necessary ..I'll tone it way down and just focus on the mission. Comments always welcome!

Both of you get cookies for double-checking that there are no actual feathers getting ruffled here!
Explore, Report, Cooperate! - It's the Pathfinder way :)

![]() |

I was imagining him looking down his nose in haughty disdain at her during their first meeting, and she has a thing about haughty Taldanes. Eamon rubbed her entirely the wrong way in that first meeting so even if you hadn't posted his thought bubbles, she would have acted the same way. It's not very professional of her, no, but she's also a heart on the sleeve kind of person and rather on the young side. How many eighteen-year-olds have you known that weren't immature in some respect?
That said, she'll probably tone down the venom for now. I'm still trying to get a feel for her so things may be in flux a bit.

just two question about new spells between 2 missions:
should we roll Spellcraft or can we take 20?
cost is 10 GP for level 1 spells?

GM Ladile |

Okay, if I understand the rules correctly (after some perusal):
(1) You do need to make a Spellcraft check with the DC being 15 + the level of the spell you want to learn. If it's a spell that matches your school specialization (should you have one), you get a +2 to this check. Taking 20 is not allowed but Taking 10 is.
(2) Costs. If you find a scroll during a scenario or have a friendly PC willing to loan you their spellbook, then you pay the base cost listed in the CRB on the Spell Level and Writing Costs table - which yes, is 10 gp for 1st level spells. If you don't have access to a scroll or a friendly PC's spellbook, then you pay an additional 50% which covers the cost of one of the Society's wizards lending you their spellbook to scribe from - so, 15 gp for a 1st level spell.

From previous Confirmation chronicle with you, starting with 496 GP:
Buy wand of Burning hands (4 charges, 180 Gp)
New spells (Taking 10, +7 bonus so beating DC 16)
Enlarge person
Feather Fall
Identify
Magic Weapon
Cause Fear
Summon Monster I
Color Spray
Expeditious retreat
(8*15=120 GP)
496-180-120=196 GP left

GM Ladile |

Thanks for the detailed accounting Eredur!
Also, 10 (well, closer to 9 now) days until we start!~ :D
