GM Dennis |
So, up the hidden passageway, or back to the main chamber to explore the other direction?
Old Monk Wu |
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
WHAT!? It's that horrible hostperson who led us up this mountain, threw her junk at us, then deserted us before we were even seated. She's blathering on about something, no doubt telling the chef how she escaped poor old Wu, left him to wander this establishment forever like a purgatory! He snorts self-righteously.
Well, cunning old Wu has found her and will give her an earful. They won;t be laughing long, not when I bring the manager!
He wanders off down the passage waving another copper penny. EXCUSE ME! MANAGER!
GM Dennis |
Palakar quickly sketches out a map of the cave you've explored thus far, but has to stpw her cartography in a hurry when Wu goes wandering up the passageway.
-----
As you follow the hidden passage, you begin to hear the faint sounds of battle and a familiar woman’s voice, echoing down the hallway. You can just make out the words the woman is saying.
GM Dennis |
The route to the surface leads through a maze of tight passages that include steep ascents and short climbs as they wind from west to east. As the you travel, you can hear the sounds of a distant battle echoing through the caves, intermixed with inspirational tales of famous Pathfinders and the heroic deeds.

The sounds of Janira’s voice fills you with courage (Inspire Courage +1) as you walk quickly through a narrow section of the cavern structure, the air feeling fresh and cool from up ahead. As you pass by a side passage, Lucius spots a small blob moving toward you!

Wu and Desirea may act.
Old Monk Wu |
DO we have to squeeze in those smaller passageways?
Old Monk Wu |
Wu activates his style.
He loops around, drawing his monk weapon, and ending his 30' of movement behind the creature.
Greatsword +5: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Jello!? I still have three teeth — I'll have pie, thank you very much.
GM Dennis |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
And just like that, the ooze is destroyed. So glad I applied the 4-player adjustment. I don't know if you could have handled two of those things :P
Old Monk Wu |
Where's my pie? HELLO? Wu wanders off toward the sounds of the restaurant hostperson doing battle.
GM Dennis |
The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, illuminating a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy. The full moon above casts dim light over the entire area, bright enough to illuminate even the shaded leaf litter beneath the trees (those of you without low-light vision or darkvision, please include a d100 roll with your attack rolls for the concealment provided by the lack of light; 1-20 misses, 21+ hits).
Some notes on terrain: The green areas on the map are underbrush, which acts as difficult terrain. The trees are only a few decades old and do not completely occupy their respective squares. A creature that shares a space with one or more trees benefits from partial cover. The stream is about 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep in this area, and the water moves downstream from east to west (top to bottom on the map). The water looks like it is moving swiftly; treat it as rough water, requiring a DC 15 swim check to cross. A 3-foot-diameter tree truck spans the width of the river, creating an impromptu bridge, though it looks slippery and difficult to cross. The slope to the west gradually rises to a height of 20 feet, and creatures standing at its highest point benefit from both a commanding view of the battlefield and a clear vantage point for ranged attacks.

Janira: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
GM Dennis |
Janira looks exhausted and badly wounded, though the Minotaur also bears some wounds and its large battle ax seems broken. You emerge just in time to see the monster swing it anyway, missing the nimble halfling twice with the weapon, then again with its massive horns.

Old Monk Wu |
Wu doable moves up, drawing his favorite monk weapon. Activated blinded blade style.
Don't you dare call Wu a vile beast! Wu won't to go back to the hills either — he enjoys dining here! MANAGER!
Desirea |
HOLD IT THERE JANIRA! DON'T LET HIM GET AWAY, WE HAVE IT RIGHT WHERE WE WANT IT!
...Desirea yells at the top of her lungs as she immediately runs forward.
Swift Action: Dragon Style
Full Round: Run
The dense undergrowth easily gives way before her as she plows through. Her single mindedness doesn't concern itself about the plants or even her party members.
Out of the way Old Man she says as Wu is push aside so she can jump across the stream.
Running Jump: 1d20 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 6 = 30
Desirea flies through the air way beyond the opposite stream bank. She has some trouble stopping but halts not too far past Janira and the Minotaur.
Armiger Lucius Forensus |
Do we have any sense of how far we are from the other entrance?
Lucius whistles, trying to call Cacciatore and Inesorabile if they're near. He makes his way towards the tree limb, readying his shortbow as he goes and firing it off at the Minotaur.
Attack+Inspire-Target in Melee: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Desirea |
Game plan? I plan on throwing a tangle foot bag but it Janira is hit I will probably try for obscuring mist from the scroll.
Ideally we get this guy into some difficult terrain for Palakar's song.
GM Dennis |
@Lucius: It's hard to tell, but you think you're a fair bit away from where you started. The sound may or may not carry to them, but it would be quite a while before they could get to you.
Lucius fires a bow, connecting with the large creature. This hit anyway, but it's my understanding that when firing at a large creature at reach from the nearest enemy you don't take the firing into melee penalty. Desirea leaps across the stream, near Janira, while Palakar and Wu more slowly advance.
GM Dennis |
The minotaur, bellows at the audacity, then steps up and attacks Janira once again!
Broken battleaxe, fatigued: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20
damage, fatigued: 2d6 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 - 1 = 9
Janira drops, her unconscious, bleeding body hitting the ground as the creature stands over her and roars in triumph!

Palakar |
I don't have anything with the range to hit from this side of the creek. So, let's try and cross (unlikely)
Acrobatics-ACP: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 3 = 13 Yay!
Ok, that's as far as I can move this turn, but it puts me in 30'. Spells are still out and there's no difficult terrain yet, so let's confuse him. You try and help Janira this turn
Palakar waits until the others have acted (so that they don't agro the confused creature), leaps the creek, then begins a baffling story of the fey.
DC 15 will save or confused for the duration of the performance
Desirea |
Thinking it over, I have a better chance of hitting with tanglefoot bag than making the UMD for the scroll. If I hit, even if it comes at me I have a decent chance of surviving for a bit.
Desirea see Janira go down and sighs in frustration.
and she is supposed to be my senior in this society?
She pull out the tanglefoot bag from her robes and tosses it at the Minatuar.

Reflex DC 15, fatigued: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 1 = 7
The creature roar of triumph turns to frustration as it is stuck fast to the ground by Desirea's glue! Palakar, meanwhile, readies to cast a spell once her allies have acted (I'll roll the Will save then).
Wu and Lucius may act.
Armiger Lucius Forensus |
Thanks for the reminder :-)
Lucius fires again at the Minotaur, and makes his way closer to the crossing.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 With the entangle, MAAAYBE this hits?
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Old Monk Wu |
Sensing the water, Wu moves back ten feet and then takes a running start, making it across the river. Acrobatics+0: 1d20 ⇒ 16
He then moves toward the minotaur, but still doesn't have enough movement.
Jump & double move
GM Dennis |
Wu leaps across the stream while Lucius fires again, but even glued to the ground the minotaur is able to evade it. The minotaur strains against the glue, trying unsuccessfully to break free.

Dammit, I knew I forgot something.
Is it confused? Will save, DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 -->No
Desirea |
Desirea quickly tries patching Janira before heading over to confront the Minotaur.
Heal Check: 1d20 ⇒ 1
However she is too intent on getting back into the fight. The bandages placed quickly fall off as Desirea rushes over to confront the beast from one side.
..if I get this foe to pay attention to me, even that blind geezer can't miss with that sword of his...
No acrobatics check, I want his attack of opportunity so Wu won't have to take one.
Old Monk Wu |
Wu steps closer, pulls out the smokestick, and cracks it open on the ground in front of him.

Realizing the odds are against it, the minotaur begins to slash at the glue holding its feet in place, trying desperately to free itself.
slashing damage: 2d6 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 - 1 = 9
He breaks some chunks of glue away, but not enough to free himself.

it shouldn't if you perform as a Cmb maneuver. Just like bullrush and reposition, if you don't have the feat for it then the forced movement doesn't provoke.
