Spectre starts encouraging the group. Baron lets a wave of necromantic energy wash over the enemies. The wolf howls as the dark blast hurts him, and the Aspis look none the better. His next spell causes the eyes of one of the agents to glow with murderous rage...

Surprise round:
Ilya 5-foot steps forward, enters a stance that belongs to the dragon style, and throws a punch at the blue Aspis agent.
Dragon Punch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Damage (x1.5 Str: Dragon Style): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
I attack before Balon casts his spell, so I assume he'll target someone else if blue goes down.
Round 1:
Ilya mixes the dragon style with the tiger style, then 5-foot steps up to the green enemy. She makes a claw out of her hand and slashes at her new target.
Slash of the Tiger Dragon!: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 Damage (x1.5 Str: Dragon Style): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

DM Kludde |

Ilya shows no mercy. Before the agents can even react, she has two of them squirming on the floor, bleeding. Ol'och casts a defensive spell. Ketill's poorly lobbed bond is enough to kill the bleeding aspic agents, and to bring down the wolf as well. Only a single agent is left standing.

"Pretty sure he's dead," Ilya comments after Ol'och's attack. "He should've realized he stood no chance alone."

![]() |

"He may be of use to us yet, brother Ol'och. Hold a moment."
Balon walks over to the corpse, places an onyx stone in its mouth, casts a spell, then touches it.
The corpse rises as a bloody skeleton, its flesh falling off the bones, leaving gore and entrails behind.
"This creature may be able to help us by setting off traps, or simply battling our enemies." Balon beams at his comrades.
What kind of melee weapon did these Aspis agents carry? The bloody skeleton will take one of them, as it keeps its proficiencies from life.

DM Kludde |

Today is a bad day for the Geneva convention.
The Aspis agent is dead.
I know that Animate Dead is PFS legal, and casting an evil spell, by itself, is not an evil act. It depends on how you use it - this particular use screams atrocity to me.
The Aspis agents were carrying rapier and longbow, clean and unused. On the table is a deck of cards.

![]() |

If you'd prefer I can take it back, but Balon sees an undead creature as anything but an atrocity... every one of them is a beautiful avatar of his goddess, in his mind.

![]() |

Just playing Ketill to his beliefs here
"Did you have to do that Balon? I know we are at odds with the Aspis consortium, but raising them as undead seems... excessive."

![]() |

"Oh it has nothing to do with him being an Aspis dog, my dear friend. We have need of more soldiers to fight for our cause, and I am able to create them. It is as simple as that."

![]() |

That...is...disgusting. If you EVER do that to my body. Eeeww

![]() |

Ilya ponders for a moment before she nods her head. "So be it. I figure we can indeed use him... it?"
She turns around to inspect the cell she's standing next to, then inspects the other cells as well.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"Oh Balon ... I believe it may have been me who offended ...", Oloch as respectfully as he can, salutes the fallen Aspis with the symbol of his god, the greatsword, "Fallen enemy I salute you, for without you there would be no glorious battle. Thank you for your sacrifice, one day when I have served my purpose in Gorum's eyes, I will return the favor."

DM Kludde |

Nah, let's just keep it this way. Animated is animated.
Several cells line the walls of this holding area, and the cages seem to be made of cold iron.
There are several faded scribbles and circles on the holding cells’ flagstone floors and the center of the room.
The scribbles are components of summoning and binding spells for dealing with outsiders.
In one of the holding cells is a man, who says Are you with the open road? I am Besnik, the Aspis held me here. I told them nothing...

"Hmmm, there might be more to this than it seems. Why are you in a holding cell for outsiders?" Ketill takes a good look at the prisoner. Is he a human?

"My friend, we certainly are with the Society, but I worry that you might not be what you say you are, given our friend's keen observation."

DM Kludde |

But I am with the Society! I was sent here to spy of the consortium, but I was captured. All I ask you is that you set me free, so I can return to Absalom!
Baron finds a loose flagstone in the floor, revealing a secret cache of scrolls.
The secret scroll cache contains a scroll of dimensional anchor and a scroll of magic circle against chaos;

![]() |

"My dear Ol'och, could you please determine if that person has an evil presence? I have a way of doing so, but it would involve pain to the recipient."
If necessary, I can cast dread bolt at him and if he takes damage, then he's evil. But I'd rather give others the chance to parley first.

DM Kludde |

The man is not evil

![]() |

GM, it is also possible to identify scrolls with just spellcraft: DC=20+spell level
Spellcraft to identify scrolls: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Spellcraft to identify scrolls: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Ketill looks at the two scrolls and quickly dismisses one while taking more time with the other.
"Hmm, I have no idea what this scroll is, but the other one is a scroll of magic circle against chaos."

![]() |

"In that case let's free him. No-one should be behind bars unless proven guilty"

![]() |

"I'm still cautious of the situation, but I will concur with you, Master Ketill."

DM Kludde |

Will you... will you let me go now? I just want to get out of here!
The man scrambles for the door as soon as he is set free.

![]() |

"How did you end up in this place?" Ilya asks the person who's supposed to be a Pathfinder agent, motioning whoever's about to free the man to wait a bit.
"We were told no other Pathfinders went to this place before us... I don't believe your story. I'd also like to know how you plan to leave the tapestry."
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

DM Kludde |

You mean, Ambrus hasn't told you about the spy he sent ahead? I have been scouting this complex. I managed to find out that there is an undershrine, and though I haven't been there, I know that a powerful Cherish conjurer, by the name of Aglorn Desimire (Dun Dun DUN!) is in command of this location. He turns out to the main Aspis man responsible for everything that is going on in the Tapestry.
I know the stairs lead to the undershrine, as does the offal pit. The latter may give you a more stealthy entrance, though It seemed a long drop to me.

![]() |

"I say we hunt down this 'Conjurer' and assert the role of the Pathfinder Society in the Tapestry." Spectre states as he gets ready his greatsword. "Just no playing with the dead once we're done."

![]() |

He's a pretty nondescript human, but a nimble fellow. A bit short, black hair, and he tends to shave poorly
assuming he matches the description
Ketill will struggle with Ilya and try to release the man "This man exactly looks like the Venture Captain described, let him go!"

DM Kludde |

The man breathes a sigh of relief. For moment I thought you were going to treat me... like... he utters as he looks at the skeleton in horror.
Ready to go down?

![]() |

"For free to leave," Ilya tells the man, her expression a lot friendlier than a moment ago.
"Let's go check this undershrine out."
Ready!

DM Kludde |

The group crosses the double doors and descends into the undershrine. The magical toad follows along...
Four crimson-hued plateaus pierce an unseen depth, providing contrast to the otherwise bleak cavern. The cavern floor, if it even exists, waits somewhere beyond the glow radiating from the strange red rock speckled throughout this cave. A quartet of swaying rope bridges connects the plateaus together, creating a path that snakes toward a set of descending stairs that disappear into scarlet shadows.

In the distance, atop the stairs, the Pathfinders spot a conjurer - it can be none other than Aglorn Desimire - who has just completed summoning three large spiders, and who has started weaving his next conjuration spell. He is flanked by an archer, and his imp goes into a frenzy as it sees the toad, immediately setting off for it. The toad, in turn, changes shape... and turns into a similar demonic form. It looks like the two are destined to be at each other's throat.
