Seldanna follows Gunari and the rest into to the room, casting her eyes over the sarcophagi. "Those bindings appear to not only keep the sarcophagi sealed shut, but also sustain whomever or whatever remains in them."

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Onward and Downward I suppose!

The corridor through the sarcophagus winds underground for a great while. after turning one of many corners, a source of light glows around the bend. A vast library holds stacks of books filling every ward-inscribed shelf. The room’s design draws the eye toward a central ritual area, inscribed with arcane markings as complex and nuanced as a living mind. Talismans, artifacts, and ancient books occupy every space that isn't covered with glowing glyphs. Amenopheus looks around, and smiles for the first time since Merab. "This should be just the place for us to perform the ritual. Between all of the ancient texts and relics, and her own history, we should be able to draw out her power and banish it." Heading over to the Ritual Circle to begin studying, Amenopheus picks up a journal, and begins to read. "Ah, this sounds like a personal journal. 'Life is fleeting, but undeath leads to stagnation. Only ideas endure, moving from host to host, alive and undying. That is true immortality.' Perhaps this is her notes for her prototype? I can stay here and research for a bit while you continue to explore. I have notified the other sages of where we are, so they should be arriving within the hour."

If you guys wanted to look further into anything upstairs, or take some time to craft the cure, now would be the time. You have 1 hour until the sages convene to begin the ritual!

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

This sounds like a perfect opportunity to attempt to concoct a cure! See, I told you there would be time for it later!

Thankfully, you already have a good bit of Crystalline Aether, and Tahari's notes to about how this substance is repellent to the plague. There is an alchemy lab that you can work with, and you already have the Know how... Now you just need a sample to test. :D

I think you know right where to find one as well.

Seldanna: Prof(Herbalist) DC 21 OR Heal DC 27 OR Kn(Nature) DC 33

Made it!:
You can safely handle the sample of the plague!
It takes you about 5 minutes per dose to make the cure (You have enough Aether for 7 doses)
Alternatively, you can distill Pure Magic with your craft Alchemy check (That you made! Perfect!) using 2 doses worth of Aether (and 15 minutes) to make some of this:
BLOOD OF NETHYS SLOT: None
AURA overwhelming universal; CL 21st WEIGHT
This stoppered vial holds a marbled mix of white and black fluids that swirl around one another, occasionally forming the appearance of a face for an instant. The fluid is raw magical potential that can be used in one of four ways.
• If consumed, any spells affecting the imbiber are treated as 5 levels higher for the purpose of being dispelled, and such spells function even while in an antimagic field or area with the dead magic planar trait; this effect lasts for 1 minute.
• If poured on the ground as a standard action, the fluid covers a 5-foot-radius area and suppresses any antimagic field in that area for 1d4+1 rounds.
• The flask can be thrown as a splash weapon against the caster of an antimagic field, and on a direct hit, the fluid suppresses the antimagic field for 1d4+1 rounds.
• A spellcaster can use blood of Nethys as an additional spell component to increase the caster level of that spell by 2.

Not So Lucky...:
Perhaps you should have been a bit more careful with that vial? Fort DC21: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
If you have a Reroll remaining, and would like to use it let me know!
Also, you're going to need another sample to test on...

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

It seems silly to grind this to a halt until Seldanna posts. So, let's keep this moving!

Amenopheus is tracing a few chalk lines on the floor while he waits for the other sages. Pulling out a series of scrolls, he looks up to Gunari. "I could use a bit of assistance with the preparation of this ritual. I urge you now though, it will take a bit of time. Using the power of the Sages combined, as well as any additional help that you can offer, I plan to draw Tahari's presence out of the jewels. Now, this ritual will utilize the natural magic of the jewels, as well as innate magic from all of us assembled. Any additional magic introduced into the ritual could introduce feedback. That includes activating Magic Items, casting spells, and even imbibing magical draughts. If you could help me find some significant relics or identify damage to the area to be repaired," Perception or Survival "Assist me in aligning components, drawing the ritual diagram, or helping organize and translate these scrolls." Kn(Arcana, Planes, Religion) or Linguistics.
With that, Amenopheus continues to sketch additions to the complex pattern on the floor.

This will take place after Seldanna is done mixing 'Cures' but we might as well start rolling now! Everybody can either 1) make one of the previously listed checks, or 2) aid another. I might also mention that Failure to assist with the ritual could have consequences as well. These preparations will take an hour after the sages are gathered.

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Who doesn't love Flashback friday?
Amenopheus focuses on the Sapphire, holding it in his clenched hand while closing his eyes. "I remember... the Sepulchur. The bands are enchanted to sustain one inside without need for Food or water. She used those tombs to hold..." Amenopheus winces mid sentence, before his face becomes a bit more calm. "Subjects. The sarcophagi are experiment chambers, where the plague could continue to affect their body without need for breaks or rest. Truly a bit of a marvel for one as cruel as she was. No doubt incredibly helpful." A faint flicker or darkness appears behind Amenopheus' eyes, before the usual scholarly focus returns. "If you are looking for more of that Cursed disease, I would anticipate that you could find some there. With all of the additional time left to mature, I would assume it more potent. Be cautious when interacting with anything in those coffins. There is a particular subject in one of those 'Chambers' that she liked to torture more than the others. I might start there for the freshest sample." With that, Amenopheus begins pulling out scrolls to prepare for starting the ritual.

Seldanna: Prof(Herbalist) DC 21 OR Heal DC 27 OR Kn(Nature) DC 33
Remember, If you want to get the sample -safely- you need to make one of those checks. If you aren't worried about exposure, well, don't worry about it? What's the worst that could happen?

Follow his Directions?:
Heading to the particular Sarcophagi that Amenopheus mentioned, you find a withered corpse, head tilted back in an eternal scream. A suit of Chainmail made of Golden Dragon scales covers the shriveled body from shoulders to knees, and an ancient golden Holy Symbol of Osiris lays almost discarded at the body's feet. Looking into the open jaw, you see a great deal of the Crystalline Aether pooled in the back of the Unlucky Fool's skull. Perhaps a final gift from his patron? It looks like there might be enough for 3 doses of the Cure!
Fortitude DC 18: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Oh dear...
Well, the good news is that you have plenty of samples for a Cure!I really hope you made that check before opening!

Look Elsewhere:
If you avoid the particular tomb that Amenopheus mentioned, you find most of them to be empty. Only the Center Gold coffin on the dais holds anything other than musty air. Inside the center coffin as you open the lid, is a large blue dragon, crammed forcefully into the sealed chamber.
Fortitude DC 18: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Oh dear...

Let me know what you want to make, and how much. Don't feel the need to Spoiler it! Remember, that you only have about 55 minutes to make any cures that you would like to!

As everyone helps arrange and locate relics, the hour passes quickly.

The sages present their sage jewels, bringing forth the topaz, emerald, amethyst, diamond, sapphire, spinel, onyx, and the shards of the ruby in turn. Amenopheus produces a silver pendant set with an obsidian crystal and places it at the focus.

Amenopheus arranges everyone to the outside of the circle, and opens a scroll and begins to chant. His eyes begin to glow with a deep sapphire light, the inscriptions on the floor radiating from his position in a brilliant blue. As the blue light reaches the other sages on the ritual circle, their eyes are overtaken by the same brilliant blue light, and they begin to chant, as if in a trance. After a few moments of chanting, a loud cackle echoes through the room, as raw black magic arcs from the relics around the circle.
Magical Feedback, No save: 10d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 5, 1, 6, 1, 3, 2, 2) = 27
Tahonikepsu roars in pain, before chanting louder, overtaking Amenopheus as the loudest voice in the ritual. Her eyes glow white, quickly radiating along the inscriptions out to the other sages, quickly changing the blue to white. Amenopheus falls out of the ritual, pushed back from the strength of Tahonikepsu's magic. "Pathfinders! Help only if you are confident! We can't risk any more of this feedback interrupting the ritual!" With that, Amenopheus steps back into position, overtaken with white light. He continues chanting, a sad tone in his voice.

The Ritual will take 1 hour, and there are a few checks that you can make to attempt to aid in the ritual. Consider this a 'Friendly Reminder' that you do not have to attempt a check if you are not confident in your skills. That damage was the result of just two failed checks. You have been advised!

If you would like to help, you can attempt a Perform or Linguistics check to help maintain the cadence of the ritual, or a Kn(Arcana or Religion) or Spellcraft to monitor the magical essence, and provide additional support when one of the sages grows weary. If you choose not to attempt a check, still post and let me know!

Perception is so common a skill, it pushes check DCs pretty high. 33 seemed to work out with regards to Perception. I can hit 32 on a take ten. What do we want to do?

If any buffs that you had remaining had a duration of less than 3 hours (1 hour to wait for sages / Seldanna to cook up some stuff, 1 hour for preparation, 1 hour for the ritual) they are no longer in effect.

Additionally, I am preparing the next... 2 posts. There is more going on in this fight than the first one. I will make sure to be Diligent to keep track of everything!

Wait, did WE take this damage? Or just the Sages?

And could we just walk down the hall to the next room to cast spells? What is the radius of this "magic has consequences" effect?

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Both you all, and the sages. The radius of the 'Magic has Consequences' effectively the ruins that you are in. If you wish to leave the ruins, I suppose that is an option, but returning this way through the twisting tunnels without a sage to guide you might not get you back in time to help. If it is any consideration, you will not be taking any additional damage before combat?

The Exchange

Okay. The way you had written it earlier seemed like only the Sages had taken the damage.

How big is the room we're occupying for this ritual? Do we have a chance to "ready for combat"?

If we do, I'd like myself back in a corner and Pratvah on the carpet, ten feet underneath her, somewhere in the middle.

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

With Tahonikepsu leading the ritual, the white glowing light emanating from the eyes of the jeweled sages. As the chant hits a fevered pitch, the sage jewels blaze with light as shadows gather, rising up until a whirlwind stands contained within pillars of light emanating from the gems... and suddenly ceases. The sages are utterly still and unseeing, and distortions form around each sage jewel, emitting faint cries for help. At the center of this storm forms a spectral being: a frail, dark-haired woman of middle years wearing the silver pendant. A ring of lights orbits her head, matching the colors of the sage jewels. She looks around the room as a child inspects an anthill and an eerie murmur echoes through the room: “So much time has passed. I have so much catching up to do...”

Finally, seeing her die atop a mound of Sarenite clerics, bested only by an impaled on the sword of a dying planetar angel. She smiles in death, just before the Angel coughs, it's skin beginning to crack and fade.

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Ok guys, Here's the rules Nonsense:
You can very easily see a Ripple in Space next to each of the Sages. You can easily recognize these as Mindscapes, similar to the one that you jumped into to learn about Memories. It is a Free action to jump into (or out of) one of these mindscapes, but it leaves your body OUTSIDE which could prove to be... dangerous. While inside, you can spend a Full Round Action to make 3 attempts to free the trapped sages from a prison of their own design. The Skill checks and DCs associated with them Vary depending on the Sage. To free a sage, you need to have 2 Successes in the span of 1 round.

It seems that Tahari is drawing ENORMOUS power from the Sage Jewels, the exact amount of which is yet to be seen. Let's get on to the Potential Mindscapes!

Amenopheus:
A weary and worn Amenopheus sits alone in a room before a pile of books and scrolls. The Ruby Prince Khemet III enters, sick and frail. Amenopheus grasps at scroll after scroll, but each crumbles to dust at his touch. Khemet III turns away in disgust. Grandmaster Torch enters and presents two sage jewels, one deep green and the other brilliant yellow. Amenopheus eagerly trades everything he has for them, only to watch the jewels fracture in his hands. Tahonikepsu enters, knocks Amenopheus to the floor, and takes his chair. He lies crumpled on the ground, then the scene flickers and repeats.
Diplomacy, Knowledge (history or nobility), or Perform (comedy or oratory)

Dhiara:
Dhiara meditates within a mountain monastery. A young girl pleads for her help as a minotaur gores the child to death. Then the minotaur ages and turns to dust. A king beseeches Dhiara’s assistance as hobgoblins enslave his people. Then knights slay the hobgoblins, and orcs fell the knights in turn, all falling into dust. The world continues in this fashion, the cycle unending.
Combat maneuver check, Knowledge (history or religion) or Perform (oratory) checks. Alternatively, you can deal 20 points of damage with an attack or spell to one of the monsters in her visions

Grandmaster Torch:
A harried warrior bearing an illuminated wayfinder runs across a chasm alongside a woman in leather armor, and an emerald spectre trails behind them. The warrior urges the other Pathfinder toward the entrance just before the apparition mutters a terrible curse that engulfs him in flames. A flask of holy water strikes the spectre from behind as the woman returns and tries to carry the man to safety, shoving him toward the entrance as the ghost’s rage collapses part of the ceiling onto her. The man staggers outside into a sandstorm, terribly burned and alone. He pulls out a barely intact scroll and reads the incantation, struggling to speak, then forces out a message for the spell to carry: “It’s Ven. Everyone’s dead. I’m just west of the site. Send an extraction and recovery team. Please hurry.” He waits in the desert, staring down at his wayfinder. No response comes.
Diplomacy, Heal, Sense Motive, or Survival

Mnesoset:
The explorer Mnesoset waves to a diverse crowd of humans, insect people, dwarves, and more, who cheer and wish her luck as she begins entering a mountainside ruin. Within she finds a hall inhabited by row after row of towering statues; as she inspects them, the sound of her friends being slaughtered echoes from outside. Mnesoset draws out an ivory rod and commands the statues to follow her orders. At first they follow her commands, but then one grabs her and throws her against a wall. Other statues stand in front of the entrance, keeping her from leaving yet not stopping the stream of blood that trickles down from the ruin’s entrance. All the while, a horned fiend watches from the shadows, moving its hands as if controlling marionettes.
Knowledge (arcana or planes), Perception, or Use Magic Device

Padrym:
The dwarf Padrym stands in a palace at the heart of Osirion’s power in the Age of Destiny, and he watches a young girl—Aryana Tahari—walk past with a few spectral figures trailing in her wake. She looks to him for advice, but he ignores her. He sees her later as a young woman, an adult, and then in middle-age, her entourage of spirits growing each time. At each point he sees a chance to speak or act as the ghosts implore him to intervene, but each time he remains silent.
Diplomacy, Knowledge (history or religion), or Perform (oratory)

Sinuhotep:
A mortal Sinuhotep traverses a catacomb with a conjured djinni ally who saves him from numerous perils. However, when faced with the choice of aiding the djinni or escaping with an ancient jar, he flees as a faintly visible spirit of Aryana Tahari urges him on. Later, in a ritual chamber, he cuts the living heart out of a sphinx and looks up to see Tahari smiling at him. The world shifts to a cavernous chamber where he drinks from a poisonous chalice and collapses as Tahari cradles his head.
Diplomacy, Knowledge (arcana or religion), Perform (oratory), or Sense Motive

Tahonikepsu:
An enormous violet dragon tiptoes through a library filled with mewling humanoid children. Everywhere she turns she has to cautiously avoid crushing another helpless creature, and they cry out in alarm whenever she turns her attention to the truly interesting texts. She lies down in weary frustration.
Diplomacy, Fly, Knowledge (nobility), Linguistics, Perform (any), or Profession (librarian or teacher)

Additionally, she brought a friend with her, that looks Remarkably Similar to the Corpse in the one Sarcophogus.

I will mention now, that the ritual pulled her essence out of the Sage Jewels, in an attempt to purify them. Her form is linked to the sages one way or Another. Freeing the sages from their mental prisons would be Ideal, but if that's not feasible, well, they are only Gems. It's not like they haven't been destroyed before.

Additionally, the Map is up.

"I apologize profusely, Pratvah, but I don't know anything about these wretches. Why don't you see if you can wrap your coils around the uglier one."

Jaswinder steps back five feet, casts Gravity Bow (standard), commands his carpet to fly next to Tahiri (move), and orders Pratvah to use the Maneuver (Grapple) Trick (free action).

I'll post her actions in a moment.

EDIT: Someone's editing the map; can you please move her adjacent to Tahiri?

"HIIISSSSSS!!!"

This one looks bite-sized!

Grapple: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 45
Constrict: 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16

(+4 Attack/Damage if Tahiri is either Human or Evil Outsider)

Snake Style if she gets attacked:
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

(+4 if Tahiri is either Human or Evil Outsider)

EDIT EDIT: -2 from Sickened not factored.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: She'll be ABOVE Tahiri so as not to be in the way of melee-ers.

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Tahari is the Spooky lady in the middle, I'll put Pratvah next to her. We'll say her Spooky Self is about 20 feet in the air?

Additionally, If you want to be somewhere other than where you are, Now would be the time to arrange yourselves! I'm going to post her Shinanigans in about 2 hours.

Ok, seeing that she's up, I will use the +2 on the first save that I need. If I should happen to roll another 20, I'll use it on the next save!

some skill checks, in case it matters:

kn:religion on her: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
[dice=kn:religion on the "corpse"]1d20+4[/dice]
Spellcraft on the sickening effects?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Is Gunari planning on jumping into Tahonikepsu's mindscape? If not, Seldanna might do so...although getting a cast of Haste in first is the other option. Depends on what we think more important to focus on first, freeing the sages or trying to take on the baddies in combat. I'm thinking sages, but happy to take other suggestions.

Knowledge rolls if they'll help
Kn. Religion on undead: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15+3 more if Osirian
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35
Kn.Religion on Tahiri?: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25+3 more if Osirian
