Tanic moves forward hesitantly and takes a half-hearted swing at the spider.

Tanic is still unmotivated to split the nice spider. Perhaps if it stung him he might take it seriously?

With trouble now in evidence Vinexa quickly entered the room and saw the spider that her companions are fighting. She made her way quickly to the fray and sliced with one clawed hand at the arachnid menace while saying, "I'm sorry Terra, I still love you," to her pet spider tucked inside her clothing.

The spider goes next, but I need to break out of this web anyway...Rage continues-3rd round? As an Unchained Barbarian, I cannot use my Rage bonus for Strength checks is how I read it.

Growling with suppressed fury, Harro draws a dagger and spends the rest of his action cutting himself free!


@Harro I'm not overly familiar with unchained Barbarian but that seems to be the way I read it as well.

The spider moves forward and leaps at Harro, taking advantage of his entangled state to try and bite him.

Spider Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
I think that hits with the penalties to AC from raging and being entangled. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Harro easily shrugs off the effects of the spider's venom however.

Works for me! So I'm down 1 point of temp Hit Points (after DR). So I'm currently 3 left out of the 4 total I get while raging.

Hearing the spider crack a fang on his scarred-tough hide, and seeing it back off quickly, Harro smiles evilly at the hairy arachnid and offers it a disgusting hand sign in return for its nibble.

"You know, sometimes the roach bites back y'filthy vermin!"

He then continues to finish cutting himself free of the web so he can swing his club freely again...

I love it when the dice seem to love a low level monster. I once had 4 dire rats almost TPK a level 3 party because the dice decided that these were super rats.

Just waiting on Talindra and Akri to make their moves this round.

Having a chance to really hurt this spider now Vinexa shifted position to get where the spider had a foe opposite her to worry about. Once there she lay into it, her claws slashing out as her face lunged forward to bite the spider.

And after putting up a mighty struggle the spider collapses under Vinexa's onslaught.

A more careful inspection of the room reveals a pair of large silver candle sticks flanking the altar. The statue of the giant spider at the head of the altar is truly a work of art, with eight 'eyes' of polished jet. Behind the altar is a heavy chest of black stained zurkwood, with a large and ornate lock visible.

In the corner of the room is a trap door leading down.

Harro finishes freeing himself from what's left of the webbing and stops raging. Sitting for a moment among the various pillows and cushions, he tries to calm himself between puffs of breath.

Tanic confidently, and foolishly, goes up to the spider statue and tries to pry the jet eyes out. He's rather pissed at being hauled out here and thinks it fit vengeance to maul the alter.

Moving over to the fancy chest, Akri gives is a once over and can't help the greed shining in his eyes. "So, anybody good with locks? Can't help but think of all the nice stuff they might have locked up."

Talindra keenly searches the room for both danger and reward, having some familiarity with such shrines due to her drow heritage. If she sees anything dangerous, she issues a warning. That's for you, Tanic. :P


@Micar Inspecting the Chest you spot that it is trapped with a poisonous needle. You'll need to make a DC 20 Disable Device to disarm the trap and DC 25 to unlock the chest.

@Tanic With a little bit of effort you are able to pry out the 'spider's eyes'. You now have four small and four slightly larger pieces of jet. You should be able to sell these for a fairly good price.

You know that it is fairly common for religious items in shrines to Lolth to curse any non-worshipers who possess them. Nothing seems to have happened to Tanic upon removing the eyes however.

Micar shakes his head and starts to attempt to disarm the trap, but pauses. "Did anyone check the belongings on the dead priestess? She might have keys to this chest. . . .by the way this chest is trapped."

With that, Micar looks over the priestess and searches her belongings.


The Priestess has a masterwork rapier, 4 doses of drow poison, two scrolls , and a wand ... but no key.

Micar looks over at Tanic and sighs. "You saw me looking over the chest, and I even said it was trapped. I even asked if anyone found any thieve's tools anywhere when we were back in the guard tower. This information would have been useful BEFORE I set off the trap." He pauses for a second and centers himself, almost sorry about his rant at Tanic. "Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep it in mind for next time. We won't waste it on opening the chest. We should be able to break it open."

I knew of your ability, but Micar wasn't aware of it yet as it pertains to tools. He would have just thought it was for weapons.

Micar lets Talindra take the wand, "Thanks for the heal."

Watching as the others worked on trying to disarm traps, unlock locks, and loot the corpses, Vinexa found herself at a loss as to what to do. She decided that, for now, keeping watch was the most important thing. With that in mind she went to where she could see out and kept an eye out for any guards that might check on the noise of the fight.

Feeling useless in the chapel, Akri follows behind the succubus. "So, how did you get caught?" he asked quietly, his eyes peeled for incoming drow. Well, drow that wasn't part of their group.

I don't really mind, but considering how pathetic Tanic has been in combat so far it might be better to have him have the wand. He'd actually do better by using the wand in combat than attacking.

Vinexa glanced over at Akri as he moved up and asked his question. She considered whether to answer or not and ultimately decided that it wouldn't hurt. "I was betrayed by drow who worshiped me as the daughter of Nocticula. They decided that I wasn't evil enough and must be an imposter even though they know for a fact that it is the truth. they feared killing me lest they were wrong so they sold me to the slave pits instead. That was only a few days ago." Her expression was dark and anger crawled across her face as she remembered the cultists, "I just hope Mother leaves enough of them for me."

"Actually, Tanic, you're a Druid, right? You take this wand. Since it doesn't look like you can fight, you can keep us healed instead."

Talindra instead picks up the masterwork rapier. "Anyone want this? I could also use it, though I prefer to use crossbows when I can."

"I think you're right. I'm more of a wrestler, or at least I hope to be. Perhaps if I advance to the point where I can take animal form I will be more of a scrapper, but for now I think healing is my place in this group."

Giving a small gulp and looking at the woman from the corner of his eye, Akri said, "Uh, right...sorry to hear that...?" Clearly, he wasnt sure what to make of her parentage. "So...who's Nocticula?"

After taking his breather, Harro walks over to the chest and hits the lock with his club.

Tanic's eyes begins to twitch in rhythm to the blows. He wants to suggest that he just mold the metal, but once Harro get's going he decides better.

"Looks like someone has an anger management problem," says Talindra, as she watches the duergar go at the lock.

And then Talindra gasps as Vinexa's words dawn on her. "Wait, Vinexa, what did you say? You are the daughter of Nocticula?" Talindra begins to come closer, unsure if she should believe it. As she examined the voluptuous demon's curves, wings, and tail, Talindra could feel the fires of passion rise within her once more, as they had earlier in the cell. She hadn't placed it until Vinexa said it, but it felt like kind of anticipation she felt when she first gave herself in devotion to Nocti herself. Is this real, or do I just want it to be real? she thinks to herself. Maybe it doesn't matter.

"Well, if what you say is true, then those drow were fools. Lucky for you you've met someone who can appreciate you for who you are." Talindra tries to remain calm given the tense situation, but her eyes are filled with desire.

The needle on the lock shoots out and bites deep into Micar's wrist, drawing blood, but he is able to resist the effects of the poison injected into his system.

After a considerable degree of exertion Harro succeeds at knocking the lock off the chest. Opening it you are able to find:

*A purse containing 56 gold pieces, and 30 silver pieces in assorted currencies.
*A tiny amber bead which gives of a faint evocation aura.
*A dark hooded robe with the image of a Spider traced in silver on the front and with three long silver needles protruding from the bottom of each sleeve

Breath heaving, Harro reaches into the chest and grabs the bag with the potions of healing.

He quickly looks around to see if anybody will question his take of the loot with a sweaty and squinty-eye look.

Vinexa was about to explain who Nocticula was as Talindra gushed her praise at her. This caused the half-demon to preen, pleased that someone understood. She nodded and replied, "Yes, or so I was told growing up. I've never met Mother, only heard of her. The foolish cultists seemed to think that just because my human mother was a paladin of Iomedae that I was corrupted. And when you get right down to it, not being completely evil does have it's benefits."

Vinexa turned her attention back to Akri and said, "Nocticula is the Demonlord of Darkness and Lust, a succubus who has nearly reached the level of divinity. She rules a few layers of the Abyss and has used her seductive nature as an assassin killing a number of other demonlords over the millenia. According to the cultists she is very close to ascending to the level of a true divinity. When she does she'll be only the second demonlord to accomplish such a feat."

As they began rifling through the loot Vinexa found her eyes drawn to the silver chain headdress. The thing caught her attention and, the silver making the jets stand out, and she looked to her companions as she said, "I would like that when we divide all of this up."

"Do we all have what we came for? Let's get out of here before we're noticed. We can split up the rest of the loot once we're out of this place." Micar quickly makes his way back toward the guard tower and back down to prepare to jump in the web and then into the water at area 14.

He is not jumping yet, he'll wait for the rest to follow.

Talindra picks up her holy symbol and the spell component pouch. "Someone hang on to this chest. We can sort through the rest of these items later - I'm sure it'll be good for gold or barter. And with all that banging that just happened . . ." Talindra gives a sidelong glance at the duergar ". . . I think we'd better get out of here."

Talindra readies herself for the jump as well.

Tanic grabs his spell component pouch, which should contain his DF. He will also take the frog of course. I sounds like the rest of the stuff is staying int eh chest? At this point that includes:
*An egg shell with scenes of torture and misery painted in exquisite, and disturbing, detail
*A small silver framed mirror
*A drawstring bag containing two potions, labelled as Potions of Healing
*A purse containing 56 gold pieces, and 30 silver pieces in assorted currencies.
*A tiny amber bead which gives of a faint evocation aura.
*A dark hooded robe with the image of a Spider traced in silver on the front and with three long silver needles protruding from the bottom of each sleeve

I assume we are in a rush which is why we are not having someone detect magic/spellcraft them? Though that trap door looks mighty intriguing and Harro looks to have curiosity issues as well as anger management issues!

We are assuming that the chest is light enough to carry out and strong enough to survive the waterfall. Could I get a GM opinion of this assumption?

Harro took the potions of healing. From a logical perspective, the chest should actually offer some flotation for a little while, assuming it's light. If the chest can't be reasonably carried, Talindra grabs whatever she can from the chest.
