It looks like we need to do some exploring. Which direction do you guys want to head in? I will take the lead with Kalis.

Harper throws his backpack over his shoulder and readies his bow.

DM Nix:

Is this an effect from heat? I have been casting Endure Elements on myself each day if so.

Nngara looks at the others and realizing nobody is making a decision speaks up.
We go north. Then back at boat. Search land 'tween here and boat. 'morrow we go north, then west. We need check all land to end of island.

Once north shore searched, we do same at south.

Nngara:
No, not from heat.

What is the plan for the heat, rain, and will you set up camp or try to come back?

Female Mwangi Elf Wizard(Enhancement)/1 - HP 10/11; AC13,T13,FF10; F+1,R+3,W+2/+4

I forgot, how many hexes can we search in a day?

Assuming we were to start early and then take a 3-4 hour break from 11-3 say, and then search more in the afternoon/early evening. Seems we should be able to get a good 8 hours in each day.

GM Nix wrote:

Each white/black mark on the scale is 2000 feet. Call it 6 hexes for a mile, or 3 hexes an hour overland.

Edit: I calculate (not accounting for sever accumulation of rounding error) 870 feet from center to center for a hex.

Will add to Campaign Info tab.

You go north, east, and back. There is a sizable hill in the middle of the area you scout. Map updated

There are many traces of at least one snake in the area, as you spot a bit of shed skin. It could just be the one you've already killed.

Perception 20:
You have an odd feeling something is watching you.

If you start out just after daybreak, there should be time to pause in the middle for the heat and rain, and make it back in before dark.

"Snakes and di snakes. Where be di redfrogs and di bluefrogs and di greenfrogs? We need di frogs for make shousha. Di frog is big better of di snake for shousha."

He shivers as a premonition washes over him and he looks around in alarm. Hissing at the rest to get their attention, he calls out in a low voice.

"We be watched. Mebbe bad spririts, mebbe worse. Be sharp!"

It would be best to rest during the rain, especially if there are Fort rolls to be made during the severe weather. Survival can give everyone a +4 bonus to those rolls.

Kalis kneels to study the skin and searches for what direction the snake went that shed it.

The rain typically isn't severe, though it does reduce your vision and block your hearing.

Kalis:
The skin is the same species as the one that was killed in the area earlier. As your explore, you find other traces, indicating that at least the one snake was common in the area.

If you are really looking for frogs (not just RP), there are plenty of tiny toads that can be found.

You walk back into the camp late in the day. As you approach, Sasha stops you, telling you, "Watch out for that tripwire!" as she makies more pointy sticks.

Jask and Gelik has dinner simmering in a pot over the low campfire, some kind of root stew. (Hopefully Jask knows what is edible and what is poisonous in his gathering.) Combined with some berries and fruit Valeria found, there is enough to get something in everyone's belly. Gelik jumps while you come in, the stress seems to be getting to him.

Ishirou is dozing under a tree, so he can take the night watch later.

Aerys is sitting in the shelter with her flask beside her, writing in a book you've seen her with before.

Going to leave it open for a change to interact with the NPCs

Female Mwangi Elf Wizard(Enhancement)/1 - HP 10/11; AC13,T13,FF10; F+1,R+3,W+2/+4

Seeing Aerys writing in a book, Nngara quietly walks over and sits with her.

What you write? I love books. Books help make smart. Learn spells. Learn enemy.

Male Elf Barbarian 1 (Invulnerable Rager)

Even after hiking all day, Kalis drops his gear and immediate goes and sits next to Sasha. He takes the sticks she has been making and hardens the points in the camp fire. "I almost did not see the trip wire before you called out. Did someone else set it for you?" It is hard to tell, but Kalis may have a hint of a smile on his face.

Surprised, Aerys quickly snaps the book shut.

Nngara:
You get a glimpse of what she is writing. It looks to be Taldan (Common), not arcane scripting, although it is spaced fairly regularly across the page.
She looks at Nngara, unsure of what Nngara is up to. "It's... a personal project of mine."

Care to take a Diplomacy roll?

"No," she holds up the stick she is working on, "I set my own traps."

Female Mwangi Elf Wizard(Enhancement)/1 - HP 10/11; AC13,T13,FF10; F+1,R+3,W+2/+4

Nngara shrugs: I sorry. Not mean be nosey. We alone in jungle. Better we know each other.

Nngara pauses for a moment to recollect her thoughts:
I tell you about Mwangi jungle. You tell where you come?

Diplomacy check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9

Anyone want to roll (DC 10) for assists?

Init +3, Perception +5, AC 18/13/15, CMD 15, HP 8, Fort 0/Ref 5/ Will 1

Wow. These are some excellent traps. Good work on them.

Harper smiles at the lady and gives her a warm smile.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Sasha flashes a toothy smile. "Thanks. It's not too difficult, it just needs lots of attention to detail."

She goes back to her sharpening for a minute, then seems to reach a decision. Looking back up, she asks, "Could you do me a favor? I'd love to have one of those flying dinosaurs as a pet. The ones with the fangs and large heads." She motions towards the treetops, where you've seen many flying creatures through your travels. "If you could catch a young one for me, it would mean a lot to me. It would be great to train one to help scout and fight."

Knowledge (Nature) Roll:

DC 10:
She seems to be describing a reptile in the Pterosaur family, although these aren't actually dinosaurs.
DC 15:
Pterosaurs generally dwell on coastlines, along rivers, or near swamps or lakes, for the majority of their diet consists of fish snatched from the water in daring dives.
The medium size creature she describes would be of the Dimorphodon species, which do have a poisonous bites.
DC 20:
Pterosaurs are quite territorial, though, and most won’t hesitate to swoop down and hiss, shriek, and attack things their size or larger.
However, Dimorphodons are easy to train, (once you've tamed it).

Sasha looks at you hopefully, the first time you see her hold a serious comment without starting to joke around.

Aerys looks into the fire, avoiding eye contact. "You could say I come from the Sea. I've never lived on land long enough to call anywhere 'home'. If anything, I'm at home when I'm on board a ship."

Harper will give the group the information above. We need to make a net. We can invade its territory and catch it while it swoops down.

Can we get net in jungle? Elf warriors make net from vine in me village. But I no know how. Mostly me study magic.

She wordlessly passes Nngara the flask.

If Nngara partakes:
It is a very potent rum, with a carefully balanced flavor of spices.
Nngara Erebrian wrote:

Stripping bark from branches can be made into twine. There are numerous vines around. A suitable craft check (Craft Weapon?) (and a good amount of time) could produce a net. Surivival might be able to produced an improvised one. (Perhaps with the broken condition applied?)

Male Elf Barbarian 1 (Invulnerable Rager)

Kalis scratches his cheek as he considers Sasha's request. "She wants a young one that she can still train. You feed it by hand and become its mother. This has been done in my village. That means finding a nest. A net will not be needed, a sack will be. Climbing probably will also be needed, but that can be done." Finally he nods his head, "If we see a nest while traveling, then you may get your flying lizard."

I assume the default plan for tomorrow is to go north, find the coast, then west for a while, and make it back to camp?

Female Mwangi Elf Wizard(Enhancement)/1 - HP 10/11; AC13,T13,FF10; F+1,R+3,W+2/+4

Wishing to be polite, Nngara accepts the flask and takes a small sip and her eyes suddenly open by the potency:
Thank you, Mwangi elf wine good. That more strong than Mwangi or Chel'x wine.

Although untrained, Nngara attempts to craft a net with the vines and bark that are available.

Craft(net untrained): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 -- unfortunately she just cannot get the hang of it.

Looking to the others for help: Any you know how make nets from vine or bark?

Nngara:
Fortitude save vs. disease

Any other actions you want to take for the night? If not, describe your sleeping arrangements.

Male Elf Barbarian 1 (Invulnerable Rager)

Kalis watches Nngara attempting to craft the net while he continues to help with camp preparations. "The young lizard we need will not move from the nest, and I do not think we wish to catch its mother or father. Netting like you wish to make would make good bedding though. Sleeping on the ground is dangerous here." Kalis will stay up a little late with Ishirou, offering to keep him company for the first part of his watch.

Moving on then.

After dinner, Aerys leads the group in some singing, in her role as morale manager.

Ishirou doesn't talk much with Kalis, he takes his duty as watchman seriously, and the jungle is full of living things. This comes evident in early morning, when Ishirou queitly wakes you, "I heard something spring a trap."

Nngara:
You wake with a pounding headache, and are quiet feverish. Colors dance at the sides of your vision. You take 3 Intelligence Damage.

A quick investigation shows that 2 dire rats fell into one of Sasha's pit traps. Sasha comments, "Filthy creatures, they are probably disease ridden. Not fit for eating."

Albino Jungle Dwarf Alchemist 1) (Perc +4; Init +2; HP 11/11; AC15,T12,FF13; CMD 15; F+4,R+4,W+0 (+2 vs spells&poison)

Jayem will take one of the middle watches, as his eyes can see better in the darkness than some of his companions. Also, Sasha can speak for herself. Raw rat meat is delicious!

Jayem responds to Sasha's comment with confusion. "Why say we no eat rats? They meat - meat is strong. Has good sprits. Cook meat with fire, drive away spirits, less strong. We eat no fire, fill with sprits! With spirits, make juju. No spirits, no juju. Yes?"

@Jayem: Your Knowledge (Nature) is +6, so you know: Dire Rats frequently carry filth fever.

Female Mwangi Elf Wizard(Enhancement)/1 - HP 10/11; AC13,T13,FF10; F+1,R+3,W+2/+4

When Nngara awakes in the morning she does not look so good. She has a pounding headache and cannot concentrate on her spellbook when she attempts to study it in the morning.

Looking at the others, I would look to Linard, but I think he has quit this pbp as he has not posted in 40 days.

I be sick. My head hurt like monkey drop coconut on head. And me cannot study book. Me be less help with magics until me get better.

Albino Jungle Dwarf Alchemist 1) (Perc +4; Init +2; HP 11/11; AC15,T12,FF13; CMD 15; F+4,R+4,W+0 (+2 vs spells&poison)

Jayem hesitates, trying to decide if the rats' bad spirits (Filth Fever) outweigh the good ones he'll get from eating them (purely RP). His decision is interrupted by Nngara, and her situation takes priority.

"We see what bad spirits be in you, lady. We see."

Jayem will (with her permission), listen to her heartbeat, smell her breath, look at her coloration, feel for swelling, peer under her eyelids, and meditate on what he has observed.

Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Jayem's examination reveals that Nngara is suffering from an affliction with affects the brain.

I haven't found rules for identifying disease through the skill Heal, or even figure out if it's a disease, curse, or poison. There is a spell Diagnose Disease. You should still be able to use 10 minutes of time to try to use Treat Disease, though. (That would provide +4 to the next check, though it's not revealed if you are successful in treating the disease until the Fortitude Save is rolled.)

Map updated

You set out to continue your exploration, going north, then west, then back to camp. The day is uneventful, you only get close to bugs, lizards, and birds. While at the cliff top overlooking the sea, you can see the occasional Dimorphodon fishing, but not near you. You lose sight of them as they fly south, over the canopy.

Back at camp, Gelik is very jumpy, almost panicky. The Gnome no longer quips at every opportunity, staying silent, and huddling down in the corner of the shelter.

Nngara:
Linard will cast Remove Sickness tonight, for +4 morale vs. disease.

Female Mwangi Elf Wizard(Enhancement)/1 - HP 10/11; AC13,T13,FF10; F+1,R+3,W+2/+4

Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 4 = 25 <-- I will assume that makes it.

After a day of slogging through the jungle and some care from Linard, Nngara feels much better after a nights rest.

Chance for NPC interactions for the day.

Albino Jungle Dwarf Alchemist 1) (Perc +4; Init +2; HP 11/11; AC15,T12,FF13; CMD 15; F+4,R+4,W+0 (+2 vs spells&poison)

Jayem, having felt that Gelik has learned the lesson that the jungle isn't a playground, will take some time to show him how survival is possible.

He offers the little gnome a pinch of shousha, a mild narcotic he brews from frogs and bugs. It has a mild garlicky smell and tastes like mold, but it numbs the gums and opens the mind after a few minutes.

He will inquire how the gnome came to be on the Jeniviere, and ask for his help refining his mastery of Taldane, which he struggles with.

Male Elf Barbarian 1 (Invulnerable Rager)

Kalis nods to Sasha in passing as they enter the camp, "Your traps are good. Rats will get into everything and make us all sick when they leave their filth everywhere."

He spends another early evening with Ishiro mostly in silence. Eventually, he nods at the man's sword, "With your people, you are a warrior?"

Diplomacy checks if necessary:
