My votes so far. And hence party composition.
*Avelloran - Wizard - Me - Arcane Full Caster
*Kaylor Traice - Magus - Melee/Partial Arcane Caster
Anset Ossari - Cleric - Full Divine Caster/Necromancer
Felicia Fayweather - Druid - Full Caster/ Animal Companion
Elmar Thonson - Ranger - Glass Cannon/ secondary scout
Calardan - Rogue - Skills/Trapfinding/Primary scout.
I'd like to see a bit stronger melee character, but we may not get it.
*Not a vote
Schwartz
So if we're voting on 2 from each category, does that mean we're only voting on Divine and Skilled right now?
Schwartz
Here's my vote using a roughly 1 character per category (I couldn't quite narrow it down that much in one category).
Melee
Sefu Kadiyk
Divine
Nahoçe Sijed
Doomed Hero/Anset Ossari
I really liked both their sales pitches...
Skilled
Darien Cedric Espoir/Calardan;
Jack of all trades
Elmar Thonsson*
Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I know one of the guys who applied and marked him with a *. So I may not be entirely impartial about that.

we are doing 2 from each category, this is round 1 of voting. The characters have to make it to round 2, then we select our team from who is left.
DoubleGold
Round 1 of voting
below shows all characters. bolded means the ones in (ie. us) or are picked.
Melee
Sefu Kadiyk
Jameel/Zoren of Fangwood
Ranged
None
Divine
Nahoçe Sijed
Doomed Hero/Anset Ossari Sales Pitch
Felicia Fayweather
Arcane
Kaylor Traice#
Avelloran#
Skilled
Darien Cedric Espoir/Calardan;
Rowan Mikalson/Hari Vash
Kita Misun/Yumi Chiaki
Jack of all trades
Pouncing Tiger
Elmar Thonsson
Now to look at the tallies, if voting was done correctly everyone in melee and jack of all trades would have made it to round 2. Arcane is already in and 2 out of 3 on skilled and divine would have made it to round 2.
If voting was done correctly round 2 would read.
1. Sefu Kadiyk
2. Jameel/Zoren of Fangwood
3. A divine person, will edit when I see votes Doomed hero with 3 votes.
4. A divine person, will edit when I see votes Felica Feywater with 2 votes.
5. A skilled person, will edit when I see votes
6. A skilled person, will edit when I see votes
7. Pounching Tiger
8. Elmar Thonsson.
And then we select 5 of the remaining 8. Also Bane88, I know you want to jump to round 2, but the game will have 5 others not including us, you have it set up for 4 others not including us.
Bane88 and Schwartz, makes sure to have 2 people in your skilled, then I will go onto round 2, with 8 names remaining. You don't have to revote, just name the 2 skilled you want out of the 3 there, this is your game as well as the DMs. I want to tally up the skilled, but it isn't clear who got in to round 2.
DoubleGold
okay so round 2 of voting, we aren't doing ties, 1 skilled person had 3 votes another had 2 votes.
1. Sefu Kadiyk
2. Jameel/Zoren of Fangwood
3. Doomed hero
4. Felica Feywater
5. Kita/Yumi
6. Darien Cedric Espoir/Calardan
7. Pounching Tiger
8. Elmar Thonsson.
Now for round 2, we will be using points, in a spoiler, give every character anywhere from 1 to 8 points, so the person you want in most would get 8 points. Max score is 24 with a min of 3. So the 5 highest total scores are the ones accepted. I highly doubt ties will happen for the last 3 places.
Schwartz
1) Sefu: 3
2) Jameel: 2
3) Anset: 8
4) Felica: 5
5) Yumi: 4
6) Calardan: 4
7) Punching Tiger: 2
8) Elmar: 6
DoubleGold
8 points: Hero
7 points: Sefu Kadiyk
6 points: Kita/Yumi
5 points: Pouncing Tiger
4 points: Felica Feywater
3 points: Darien
2 points: Fangwood
1 point: Elmar
Now we wait for bane88, please don't look at our answers before pointing them. Also, if anyone figures out they did their format differently than mine, don't worry about changing your answers, I really wasn't specific on the format or how I wanted points to go.
Schwartz
So if you assume that the people Bane didn't give points to got a 1, here are our results:
2) Felica: 14 (5, 4, 5)
3) Elmar 12 (6, 1, 5)
4) Sefu 11 (3, 7, 1)
5) Yumi 11 (4, 6, 1)
6) Calardan 10 (4, 3, 3)
7) Tiger 10 (2, 5, 3)
8) Jameel 5 (2, 2, 1)
Number in () are individual points in the form (me, DG, Bane)

I really don't have an opinion on this, but are you using both D&D 3.5 and pathfinder classes? I don't know of any soul knife or mind flayer in Pathfinder
The Voice from the Depths
soul knife had been converted into pathfinder on this website, and that is where the "mindlfayer" has been created but it has a different name since d and d still has the rights to that name.

You're missing the were-leopard character on the list. :-P There was also gyrfalcon, who wanted a shaman and somebody who suggested a ghost. Unless you already decided you didn't like them? If that's not the case though, I would suggest maybe posting with your list of submissions and asking people to speak up if they're not on there and should be.
In general, I need to be more influenced by character back story than actual crunch. So I have less of an opinion on people who didn't post much in the way of fluff. And I also know people PM'd you stuff that they didn't post on the thread, so clearly I can't use that in judgement.
For both the Mind-Flayer and the death mage, I really don't have much of a read on the characters or the writing style of the players. And not much was posted for the Half Giant/Half Dragon, so ditto for him.
Overall, Leo the wereleopard and David the Drow were my two favorite submissions. But the decision is up to you, and I'll be fine with whomever you pick. Especially since I know people sent you stuff that wasn't posted publicly.
Moneez
Well i would be one of the ones who cant speak abbyssal. I can speak goblin, common and sign launguage (amazing what you learn in the pits...)
And a rehash of leo, we met each other out in the wild (after i was mystically released, so in the new world) an he saw this cuite, small, lonely and hungry creature in the woods and he decided to feed him.
Well that made him a friend for life in Moneez books
(A Fried? Sniff. Ive never had a Fried before! Sniff, im not crying! I just got a toothache...)
and ever since Moneez has stuck to him like glue. Playing around him, climbing on him, sleeping on him, sharing his food with him (which leo politely refuses. Trust me). And just glad that he has a friend in this big world.
He still dosent trust magic tho. You try and cast something on him, he WILL eat it. >.>
Schwartz
I speak Abyssal. Eventually I will speak ALL THE LANGUAGES. Just as next level I will have ALL THE SKILLS (except fly). It'll be beautiful.
Also, in the interest of having a language for the party to use to communicate without other people knowing, Schwartz can teach everybody Klingon.
Leo Silvertail
I'd wager that Drow Sign Language might be a more useful language, since it's completely silent and battle-focused, although that would require the drow to know it (and Klingon's probably also battle-focused).
Schwartz
How much is "too much"? These are the cheapest not-armor equipment options that come to mind
2k Amulet of Nat Armor +1
2k Ring of Protection +1
4k Belt of Dex +2
You could also get a wand of shield for a +4 shield bonus for a minute.
Leo Silvertail
Switching out your hide shirt for a chain shirt will get you +1 AC for under 100 gp. If you take a feat or level in fighter to get Medium/heavy armor proficiency, you can wear better armor, which will give a nice boost.
Also, Moneez appears to not use his hands for anything important. Putting a +1 Heavy Steel Shield in one of them would give you an extra +3 AC at a cost of 1k gp, while still letting you attack as normal.
Tiny Coffee Golem
I'd wager that Drow Sign Language might be a more useful language, since it's completely silent and battle-focused, although that would require the drow to know it (and Klingon's probably also battle-focused).
True, but teaching that to anyone non-drow simply isn't done. I like you all well enough, but I am still a superior species. :-)
However I could learn some strange esoteric language like alboleth and teach that to everyone. It won't be completely silent, but it will be odd enough that the vast majority of people won't know it.
Though If someone ended up with a helm of telepathy or telepathic familiar that would solve that issue.
Moneez
Ya i saw the chain shirt but opted for the hide shirt because it was more thematic, thinking it was only 1 AC... But now im short AC...
The ammy wont stack with my AoMF but the ring is a good idea. Belt with my belt od str would be way expensive.
Shield is very good but sooo un-thematic... Gahh!. Ill have to think if its worth it :(

When we starting?
The Voice from the Depths
Alright seeing as everybody has dotted we will be starting this again now. The two original players are still hiding behind some crates/debris near a tunnel, and the rest of you are just coming through the tunnel they used. Both groups can quite clearly see each other, so this is your time to in character introduce yourself to each other if your backstory doesn't already have you knowing some of the others. I will have a write-up sometime tomorrow about the ankhegs, but the situation will be slightly different than what is currently posted.
Schwartz
Hmm, can't find the XP link for some reason.
Oh, sorry. I got rid of it 'cause I assumed we no longer needed it. We should all be level 8, meaning you need to level your character if you haven't already.
Also, if you didn't mark it, you got a necklace of fireballs and a potion of cure serious wounds.
Little Orphan Annie
started to read back and it is very confusing as to what is happening.
can we get a recap of what is happeneing, also who is now the officail DM?
Schwartz
Ahh, come child. Sit with me by the fire, and I will tell you a story. ;-)
Originally we were switching DMs every couple of weeks, but Voice from the Depths is now the official DM, and DoubleGold will not be DMing any more.
I don't feel like going back and looking up details, but this should give you a good overview.
The original band of people started off in a bank in modern times. There was a bank robbery that we stopped. Shortly after we were sucked into a time portal.
Once through the time portal, we immediately fell unconscious and entered a dream world. In the dream world, we fought some monsters in a cemetery. Every once in a while, we'd hear... Freddy, I think. Or maybe Jason. A horror movie villain (sorry, I'm not that familiar with horror films) would say some lines basically saying that he was getting closer.
Luckily, before he arrived and killed us all, some other guy came and woke us up. We awoke in the same cemetery, and he told us that someone is taking people from movies and basically doing nefarious things. And we're supposed to help stop it. Or something to that effect, it was a while ago.
After that, we went into the nearest town to rest, where we fought some ankhegs (normal ones). *insert DM switch* The next day the mayor came and asked us to find out what happened to some missing explorer. We went to the Dwarven ruins the explorer was looking into. Inside we found out that there used to be a great Dwarven craftsman who made constructs, some so well that they were even sentient. But there was a good chance that in order to live on, the guy turned himself into some kind of undead. Before we went down to figure out what the deal was, there was another DM switch, so we went back to town.
Then somehow we wound up at a frozen lake, fighting orcs who were trying to ambush us. *insert another DM switch* The lake had some cabins nearby that we went to explore. In one cabin was a goblin who tried to kill us while saying something about taking our "pickles". After that, some guy said he would reward us if we found his treasure at the bottom of the frozen lake. Apparently he had hired the goblin to do it, but then we killed it. At the last cabin we found some more goblins. *insert DM switch*
And that brings us to the ankhegs...
Somewhere along the tunnel we reached a fork and took the right branch. We then came upon the area we're now in. There are 3 areas where the ankhegs are grouped. Some are to the West in a garage of some sort. Some are further to the East by some horses and buggies big enough to carry the ankhegs. And some are a little South in a big warehouse. In the middle of all this is an area scattered with some boxes that we are currently hiding behind.
All groups of ankhegs seem to be arguing about how to deal with the humans. Most want to basically destroy/eat them, but a minority seem in favor of peace. Aleumoth, being the most diplomatic of the party that was still left, went to go talk to the group by the buggies. He got them to agree to take him to their leader. And that's about where we left off.
- Some guys in the town apparently want to get laid
- Helping some fisherman catch a large haul of fish
- Explore some kind of Nightmare house (I think another movie reference?) that is next to the cemetery we originally popped up in.
- Deal with some kind of large creatures. I don't remember exactly what, but something of the ogre/giant variety
- Deal with the undead dwarf craftsman who makes pretty constructs.
- Find that treasure at the bottom of the frozen lake
- Deal with the few orcs that ran away before we could kill them that attacked us at the frozen lake.
I have probably also forgotten some, but it shouldn't matter too much.

** spoiler omitted **...
OK that is really some wacky stuff there.
I hope things level out and we can have some story cohesion.
Now I wonder where do we come in at and what will be different now..
The Voice from the Depths
@Tiny Coffee Golem: You may have heard about the bounty on the ankhegs or you may have just come across a tunnel and decided to investigate. Right now I'm just trying to get everyone back together as a party.
@Liitle Orphan Annie: Schwartz has the recap covered, but things do get a little crazy when you shift DM's and that's okay since this isn't a hardcore game.

Ankheg bounty. I can work with that.
DoubleGold
A better understanding of how the Ankhegs became smart and was able to speak. Have any of you seen any of the planet of the apes movies? The original from the 70's that they always show on TV on the remakes within the past decade? These Ankhegs can wear clothes now, use weapons, etc.
Something happened along the way to make them smart. They were just normal Ankhegs along the first encounter.
David Duebillon
Hello, TCG here.
This is my character. DM, please look it over and let me know if everything is reasonable.
Regarding spells:
I didn't want to go into nauseating detail about the spells in my book. Basically I knocked 2K off my wealth and added a reasonable number of spells to my book.
If you want me to alter that in any way just let me know.
Though I just realized my spell book contents weren't in the initial output. *sigh*. I'll transcribe it over when I have a moment. Essentially David has probably more than one book, but he keeps them in his pathfinder pouch that's strapped to his leg when not in use. Essentially unless someone completely strips him down they'll not find it. Of course even if they do it'll detect as a non-magic bag with just a few gold in it. The gold put there purely for decoy purposes.
David Duebillon
I added an arrow to indicate north to make it easier to discuss the the Ankheg nest.
We're attacking the ones to the south, correct?
I'm unclear on what's happening with the horses and such to the East.
What are the big boxes labeled "Buggy"
What are the Ankheg's in the box to the West?
I hate to be so pedantic, but I'm trying to figure out the smartest place to start throwing fireballs.
Schwartz
I assumed we were heading East towards some new area, but you could be correct; we could be going towards the Southern warehouse. In which case we'd still need another map since we can't see the entire building. I'm also still not really sure if we're in some big, underground cavern or if the originally tunnel came back out into the open.
The "Buggy"s are buggies. Like, horse-drawn carriage type of buggies.
The West area is a garage of some sort. Probably with lootable items. Just as the boxes in the middle probably also have loot-able items.
Leo Silvertail
Yeah, the only things I'm unsure of is where the actual entrances are that we can set fire to, and which entrance would be the main entrance that becomes a chokepoint.
Schwartz
I just want to make it clear that since I'm assuming the main hall isn't on the map, Schwartz has not started enacting on Aluemoth's vague plan. He's assuming that the actual planning will occur once the destination is reached and there's some idea of layout, since he doesn't want to miss where Aleumoth is going due to planning. So if we are just going to the Southern warehouse, since that's nearby Schwartz wouldn't have just disappeared without saying what he was doing.
Schwartz
Voice from the Depths, I just wanted to check. Is there something you're waiting for us (the players) to do?

I may start blowing stuff up soon.

betcha can't blow me up...

And I'm totally ready to charge into melee against 40 ankhegs, although I don't know how efficiently I could take them out without the rest of the party also doing some killing.

If they could all gather in 30' radius groups that'd be super.
