@ Azaelas
Starting Gold 140gp (Average) + 1000gp = 1140gp to start
Level 3 is the starting level
Cr/ Weapons for Shuriken, the DC for Exotic Thrown is 18 so if you get a +8 skill you can take 10, just remember to buy an artisan kit.
You can choose ethnicity, but no one else did so the languages really won't be a help.

Thanks... Again sorry for the hail of questions just didn't wanna make a mistake on my character.

Isn't level 3 WBL 3,000, not 1,000? That's level 2?

That is true but I think they just reached Level 3. Besides we are coming in with fresh characters in an AP that is somewhat known for having lower than WBL Treasure.

Just in case it matters, most of us who are running nobles are taldane. Also while 1000 over may not seem like much but it is more than we have right now. Also I am looking forward to new members.

Mine I mainly just used it to take advantage of getting multiple Masterwork Weapons but if you guys think it would be better I could drop my Masterwork Wakazashi and take some Potions or such.

I think it's best if you decide what gives you an edge, if masterwork weapons give you that edge, by all means take it.
I've a reasonable amount of money now, but no idea what to spend it on.

Looking forward to see the new faces, beware of the political intrige coming your way ;)

I had previously listed Koilia as still playing in Kertuffle's game. It seems that he had dropped but I was unaware of it. That leaves Dantalion as the lone ranged specialist. Someone with some range focus could be helpful in addition to the aforementioned rogue/trapfinding and arcane caster (int focused) stuff.

Hmm...I might throw my glove into the ring later tonight. I have an Archaeologist (Bard) Halfling that might fit in well. He will in a sense touch base on many of the factors you have described. He'll have knowledge of many different subjects, he'll be capable of trapfinding (Magic Traps will come with time), and will likely favor a crossbow over getting up close and personal.

Here is the Eldritch Knight I have been working on. The crunch is basically done, just missing the familiar. But I should probably go over the sheet one more time, at the very least to clean it up. Working on the backstory atm. Comments and critique is always welcome!

He will be able to contribute with some utility magic, melee damage, intelligence skills and minor crafting.

How are you taking eldritch knight? You have to be able to cast 3rd level spells before you qualify for the prestige class.

Spell-like abilities can be used to qualify - the scryer subschool gives clairaudiance/clairvoyance at first level. It should be in the FAQ if I recall correctly : )

(this is also a reason assimars are considered very good, since with their alternate racial traits they can get spell-likes to qualify for an awful lot of things)

edit:
Here is the wording to save time if anyone want to look it up:

FAQ:
Spell-Like Abilities, Casting, and Prerequisites: Does a creature with a spell-like ability count as being able to cast that spell for the purpose of prerequisites or requirements?

Yes.
For example, the Dimensional Agility feat (Ultimate Combat) has "ability to use the abundant step class feature or cast dimension door" as a prerequisite; a barghest has dimension door as a spell-like ability, so the barghest meets the "able to cast dimension door prerequisite for that feat.

Edit 7/12/13: The design team is aware that the above answer means that certain races can gain access to some spellcaster prestige classes earlier than the default minimum (character level 6). Given that prestige classes are usually a sub-optimal character choice (especially for spellcasters), the design team is allowing this FAQ ruling for prestige classes. If there is in-play evidence that this ruling is creating characters that are too powerful, the design team may revisit whether or not to allow spell-like abilities to count for prestige class requirements.

Interesting.

Edited: Yeah, people are getting into a hype about that FAQ it seems like. Though I don't think everyone's attempts at using it to get early access into a prestig class is working as well as they think.

The FAQ is almost 6 months old - I think most of the available early entries are well documented by now. I have yet to seen anything game-breaking, all it does is allow you to play certain PrCs without having to wait for half the game to pass before you can enter them. I might be abit biased since I always wanted to play an Eldritch Knight. Sadly I have never really gotten the chance since most of the campaigns I've been in end around 5. =)

The backstory should be done by now, starting to work on description and the familiar & horse.

Edit: A quick search on this site showes that the common interpretation is that a single spell-like ability does indeed work. I'll look around and see if I can find the thread where the dews stated that it would work that way : )

And after consulting my Venture Captian, I've been informed that there has been a lot of back and forth on the subject. A quick point to make:

The language states "Does a creature with a spell-like ability count as being able to cast that spell for the purpose of prerequisites or requirements?" So one is considered capable of casting that specific spell. Not spells. If you take a look at some of the prestige classes, including Eldritch Knight, it states they need the ability to cast spells, not spell.

@mdt
The group has only earned a little over 1000gp each at this time. Again, I'm trying to be fair to the original players. That is the reasoning behind average wealth +1000gp
@Fharn
I have to second Felix and say 'Interesting'. I've spent the last hour pouring over the Paizo boards and I have to say that it certainly appears to be legal and being used in several current builds. I'm jealous, I love playing Eldritch Knights. The Paizo powers that be seem to be convinced its not unbalanced and I'm willing to give it a try. If it does appear to be unbalanced in play I'll force you to start taking wizard levels until you get up to 5, but I doubt that will be neccessary. You're running at -1 BAB to the fighter and casting spells at 2 levels lower (although the magical knack does raise the effective level to 3). Your HP are going to be pretty good for a mage however. I would like to mention that in order to qualify for the feats you've choosen Wizard needs to be the first class taken but you seem to have taken that into account. Your background is excellent.

This thread contains the most detailed explanation on how it works, be careful, it gets quite vitrolic on the end.

@Kertuffle - Thank you. If it shows to be too awesome it is only fair to tone it down. Assuming I get picked as a replacement ofcourse : ) Actually - looking thru my datasheet I realized I calculated my feats and hp as if I took wizard first, but my money as if I were a fighter. I'll just have to drop some of my utility stuff and fix it.

Aaargh, I seem to be late to the Eldritch Knight wagon. No tricks form me, just a fighter/transmuter waiting to get to high enough level.

the sheet lacks the familiar and the gear - the first will be chosen shortly, the second will be completed if I get selected since it is the most boring part of chaarcter building.

Anyway, submission for Bej Vanskian, human (from Issia) fighter/transmuter, focused on bow and enhacing spells, with a chess player motif and personality.

Background:
Bej Vanskian was born an ambitious man in northern Brevoy, in the land called Issia. His father was a rich merchant, controlling half the fishing that went on in Lake of Mists and Veils. Food on the Vasnkian table was plentiful and varied, and young Bej grew up strong and smart. As many men from Issia he aimed at nothing more than to learn how to use his arms to defend his home in time of war, and learn how to use his mind to prosper in time of peace.

He was lucky enough to be able to do both: in the mornings he practiced with bow and sword, and in the evening, after dinner, his father would sit with him by the fire and teach him how to do business while playing a friendly but competitive game of chess.

A bit of luck complemented Bej’s hard work. As he was out on a fishing boat on the lake he taught he’d gone crazy as he saw a man coming out of the mists walking on water. But soon he realized the vision was very real: the man called out to them, and got into the boat.
He explained Bej and his men that he was a battlemage fleeing from Mendev after witnessing the horrors of the Worldwound Crusade. He was freezing and almost out of spells – the boat that smuggled him out of Mendev left him on a tiny island in the middle of the lake to die.
In exchange for a hiding place from the inquisitors of Ragathiel, coming to snoop out the fugitives from the Crusade, the mage taught Bej the basics of his trade, finding in Bej a mind ready to grasp the principles of magic and applying them to the necessities of everyday life.

Now a grown man able with bow and magic alike, Bej has crossed all the Brevic country, coming all the way to the south into the River Kingdoms, promising his father to put his training to use and gain the Vanskian family the title, land and power that was long needed.

Appearance:
Tall, wiry frame, and pale: his noble Taldan origins have probably been mixed with quite a few Ulfen and Chelaxian ancestors and now he hardly resembles any pure race. He has thin, ash blond hair than is cropped in a short, militaristic cut, and an equally short and functional beard. Countless hours of studying spellbooks and practicing chess moves left him far-sighted: while his aim with the bow is good, to read he requires spectacles.
He dresses in a practical outfit of good manufacturing.

Personality:

Bej enjoys battlefield tactics way more than throne room politics: that’s why conquering the wildlands with bow and spells looks like a better opportunity than scheming and lying and sucking up to major nobles.
As an avid chess player, he sees companions as fellow pieces, everyone moving in its own way to reach the same goal: and even a pawn can be crucial in close quarter maneuvers.
He has a strong dislike for magic without a practical use in times of peace: many arcanists who go around hurling fireballs or creepy rays of necromancy find themselves ill at ease once the fight is over. Bej does not wish to be one of such casters – in his grimoire will always find place spells to help rebuild once the fight is over.
His biggest flaws are having a very bad poker face (hey it’s not his game… he is a chess man) and having a hard time thinking outside the chessboard – that is, if a frontal fight is the most direct solution to a problem, why look for another one?

Choices is important - besides, the Eldritch Knight wagon might be big enough for two !

Is it too late?

I have this character I'd like to put in for consideration.

I used basically all of his WBL on spells known.

Fhârn wrote:

I could easily go Ranger/Transmuter and then on to Arcane Archer instead of Eldritch knight actually.

GM Kertuffle, how long will the replacement submissions be open?

Arcane Archer costs some precious casterlevels however - but antimagic arrows is a sweet trick :-)

As long as we're talkin' prestige classes here, Dareon is going for Collegiate Arcanist.

Azaelas here. Still need to double check the stat block cause I think the Skills and such are a little off do to errors in PCGen's Eastern Armour.

Also on the Masterwork Weapon Set it is more for options and theme.

Current Background:

The Weapons were gifts from the Lord's youngest daughter who was married to him to ensure his loyalty. He presumes her dead as a method for his master to ensure his treasonous plan is kept secret til everything is ready.

He is currently a Bandit stealing from other bandits to survive and has been trained in Assassination from his youth. He is a fugitive accused of a crime he was ordered to commit. The murder was to eliminate the 2 lords who learned of his master's plans.

Dareon Lebeda wrote:

Nope. I don't know how long Kertuffle plans to keep it running though. :)

I'll have a character done by tomorrow night, I'm just travelling for work right now, and can't sit down to build one. :(

Drove 4 hours yesterday, worked 8 hours, working 8 hours today, drive 4 hours again tonight.

@mdt: If you want you can give me a concept and I can get a base set-up for you to modify if it will help.

Sure, if you want.

Human, Rogue 2, Alchemist (Chirurgeon/Vivisectionist) 1.

STR 10
DEX 14
CON 14
INT 16 (14 + 2 Racial)
WIS 10
CHA 10

(man I hate 15 pt buys).

Finesse fighter (makes sense with the build). Rather than one feat at 1st level, going for the 3 skill focus's over 20 levels. First level Perception. Fast Stealth talent.

I never realized that replaced the Bonus Feat. I think I will switch to that one as well.

So I am guessing Weapon Finesse, what of the second feat?

EDIT: @Kertuffle: Would it be alright if I use the Human Rogue Favored Class Bonus only applied to Ninja Talents?

Huh, so needs are Arcane, Sneaky guy, and lastly another ranged fellow maybe.

Any of the noble houses NOT currently represented?

Point Blank Shot, to help with the ranged stuff, go MW bow, MW rapier, MW armor.

I'm going to close recruitment now. Looks like 5, maybe 6 have applied so we'll stick with these.

Seeing as I never get around to getting my character up, I'll withdraw from the running if you were still considering me as a candidate. Good luck to everyone though.

@ Airon87
Bej's stats only total to 14 points. I also notice he isn't wearing any armor. Of course with gravity bow you won't have to get close.
Wow. 2 Eldritch knights.

@Dareon
I think you Intelligence should be 16, not 18. That would be in line with the 15 point build.

@Masamura
Since your human, choose the Focused Study Racial Trait to get your Skill Focus. That way you can get free Skill Focus at 8th and 16th level. Just a suggestion.

EDIT Oops, I see you noticed that later. Also it is pretty clear to me that there is a symmetry between Rogue Talents and Ninja Tricks so I am OK with you using the human favored class bonus on Ninja Tricks.

Kertuffle wrote:

Ah, yes. I changed it on the statblock but I forgot to do it on the profile part.

@MDT
I'm assuming since Vivesectionist has more synergy with Rogue then Chirugen (Sneak Attack) that is the route you will take.

Kerfuffle, you can actually take more than one archetype at the same time, although only if they replace no abilities in common.

NooooOOOOoooooooooo this looked fascinating. XD What a bummer. Best of luck guys. :)

.. wait a minnit. Can I have his spot? XD

Oooops, I took too long. Good luck folks

Ridge wrote:

We currently have:

2 from house Orlovsky
1 from house Medvyed
1 from house Surtova
1 from house Garess

Made a list of the following before Kertuffle cut off recruitment. Not sure exactly what he meant (e.g. accepting ONLY completed profiles) so everyone who even expressed interest (before cutoff) is listed. Kertuffle can sort out the rest. :)

Submitted characters with crunch/background:
Fhârn(Lessah) - Issian Human Wizard(Scryer) 1, Fighter 1, Eldritch Knight 1
Bej Vanskian (Airon87) - Issian Human Lore Warden (fighter) 1, Transmuter 2 (towards Eldritch Knight)
Dareon Lebeda (leinathan) - Noble Born(Lebeda) Human Diviner(scroll scholar) 3 going towards Collegiate Arcanist
Masamura Yoshirou (Azaelas) - Brigand Human Ninja 3

Expressed interested:
psychicmachinery - elf/half-elf diviner wizard
mdt - half-elf rogue/alchemist(Chirurgeon Vivisectionist) (has a basic crunch together)
Captain Fremont - Archaeologist(Bard) Halfling
Ridge - ???

Nice list Wilhelm!

Also wanna point out that Skyborn is a title, and my house is Surtova.

Fixt. :)

@leinathan
Wow, I hadn't noticed that the alternate class features replaced were different. Nevermind.

@ Bej
I have you 2 skill points short. Did you forget Favored Class bonus for wizard levels? If so you have 2 points to spread between HP and Skill Points.

OK Fharn, Bej, Dareon and Masamura you are ready to start. I had originally planned to have Viktor return with some new recruits, but I think I would prefer that you have all come to Oleg's Trading Post for whatever reason fits into your background.
Oleg's Trading Post is on a main trading route to the Kingdom of Brevoy, terminating in the city of Restov. Oleg's is a couple of days ride from Brevoy's borders. It used to be a small fort, but the defenses are in disrepair (any with K/Engineering can tell that they are in the process of being fixed however) and is now a trading post for the loggers and trappers of the region. The area has been infested with bandits and one week ago a massacre of some Brevoy soldiers occured just a few miles north of here. Evidently Brevoy's response was quick, because as you drink your beverage of choice you overhear a large group of young mostly noble, although there are some salt of the earth types, bragging about defeating the bandits and making plans to start their own barony. Intrigued you move closer....

The four of you feel free to start posting on the gameplay and discussion threads. I'll continue to check this recruitment thread for a few more days and if anyone else finishes their character I will consider it.

I'm assuming since you were still talking to me after closing things down, that I'm still in, so working on the character now.

1 : Male
2 : Female

Random Gender: 1d2 ⇒ 2

I'm assuming Rich Parents Trait is ok as well? Even though it ups the WBL?
