*shrug* why not just do massed rolls like that in one post? Same for initiative and passive awareness/perception tests?
it would save a load of time waiting around for everyone to ensure we post in chronologically correct order.
I'll roll for it anyway. I assume you want the degree of successes/ failures next to it?

Emperor's mercy what just happened? Vector gives a pained grunt before looking around blearily. He releases the death grip he had on his temples only to be assaulted by a new tempo of pain beating in his skull.
"Ow.." the psyker states flatly before gingerly moving again, careful not to upset the symphony in his skull for fear of it getting worse.

As the gas begins to release from it's long slumber within the holy containers of readiness, Titus sighs and slowly lowers himself to the floor. He rolls quickly under his blessed board of seating and curls up in to the defensive position of holy pre-birth. As the gas hits him and he hears the thumps as others slump over or fall smashing to the ground he begins deeply breathing in the blessed air, fighting hard against the urge to hold his breath. I serve at his will, my death will not be in vain. This is simply a test... simply another test.

Titus notices that the others seem to have stirred long before him, no matter.

As you slowly come to, you find yourselves inside of a large metal cargo hold, filled to the twenty-foot ceiling of crates and other containers stamped with the Imperial Aquila on their surfaces. The room itself is dim and rife with the smell of distilled air, but otherwise is perfectly survivable. A clearing that is twenty by twenty meters is where you find yourself lying prostrate, devoid of your weapons.

A vox lies a few meters from your position, crackling with static and garbled words issuing out. "Can...hear...immediate...request...heretics...protect...-lar Field..."

The order of who wakes up:
* Renata (15)
* Vector (23)
* Cimbria (27)
* Mathias (30)
* Simmins (82)
* Roth (89)

Slowly, slowly the lights of the cargo hold become clearer , Sister Renata raises her head from the hard metal floor.

A quick check reveals her weapons were missing. Accepting tha situation with equanimity, her attention is captured by the static coming from the vox.

Head cocked in concentration, she tries to make out what was being said.
Picking up the vox, she attempts to send "This is Battle Sister Renata, seconded to Inquistor Sharben. Identify yourself and the situation."

She notices that all of the others from the shuttle have been deposited here with her, all currently in states of unconsiousness, though a couple are beginning to stir.

*ugggghhh* my head... Sudden panic washes over Cimbria as she realizes she was unconscious for an undetermined amount of time What did you do witch? WHAT DID YOU DO? A quick pat-down reveals she is unarmed. Glaring at him she notices he is holding his head. This isn't the shuttle. The cargo hold was nearly barren and not as large... At Vector This wasn't your doing... Cimbria's eyes narrow as she contemplates the situation

We must have docked...

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Vector grinds his teeth as Cimbria vents her voice driving the tempo in his head even higher "No Magistrate Cimbria we have not docked as far as I am aware, vents on the shuttle activated after you att-." No this isn't the time, we need to grasp the situation at hand. The pained psyker thinks before speaking again"Regardless we were knocked unconscious and are currently in a large storage area, I do not possess my pistol or blade and on looking at you I presume the same." The psyker casts about the room still searching while speaking
"It being his shuttle I would say that wherever we are it is highly likely the doing of Inquisitor Sharben. I am searching the area for things of use while the battle sister obtains details with the Vox.
Do as you will but I can only guess this is a test of some kind, as normally on being knocked unconscious I would expect to wake in a cell or at the emperors side."

Male Human Sanctioned Psyker: Preceptor-Savant

In response to Renata:

"Get...-oost signal...there!" Most of the static clears away and a female voice, one with authority, shouts into the vox amidst the sound of distant bolt and las fire. "Whoever is listening on the other end of this vox, I repeat! Heretics have taken over the ship and are trying to deactivate the Gellar Fields! If the heretics succeed in turning of the fields, this ship will become a charnel house for the daemons outside to feast on! All navy armsmen are protecting the bridge and critical points, so whoever you are, protect the Gellar Field generators at all costs! Auspex pings you at...Cargo Omega-372? You're more than close enough-"

The vox cuts out as the sound of an explosion overwhelms the communications device. "They've broken through the blast doors!" the voice resumes. "Stand to, men! Educate these ignorant heathens on how we purge traitors from our midsts. In the Emperor's name----!"

The communication cuts with the sound of an army's worth of gunfire erupting from the device before returning to static. No matter how many times you try to establish communication again or ask questions, there is no response from the other end of the channel.

Opening his eyes, he takes stock of the situation. The acolytes are still together, Emperor be praised. We are unarmed, though otherwise unharmed. What is that coming of the vox? The battle sister seems to be working on that. And both the psyker and the magistrate are searching the contents of the chamber. How did we get here? Why have they taken our weapons? Did I hear the word heretics as we were waking?

Seeing Vector searching the compartment, Gabriel will seek anything that could used to defend themselves, including check in any crates he is able to open. As he does so, he speak, "Emperor protect us, has anyone found anything of use?"

I'm going to assume that even with my characters life story full of holes he knows what a Gellar is. they just a little bit important Cimbria will likely be half to exploding as will our adept.
for out noobs, high speed travel in WH40k is done by ripping a hole into the warp and traveling through it. Trouble is the warp is full of demons that can go intangible and walk right into your ship. the Gellar field stops that from happening.

Gellar field.

Sister Renata tosses the vox to the ground when it become apparent that nothing more would come of attempting more with it.

Moving with the others to the lockers, she picks up her bolter with what could only be called reverence, turning it over and over, inspecting it for damage.

Satisfied of its integrity , she slips it into its holster and stands looking at Vector as he explains the nature of Gellar fields

"The woman indicated that we were close to the Gellar generators. Convenient as that is, we must work on the assumption that we and the ship are at grave risk. Do you concur?"

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Not really going to act on the information, due to Vector being a bit slow and unlikely to put those puzzle pieces together but even to him it seems convenient that we would all wake up just in time to stop an assault on the Gellar field rather than dying in our sleep or something.
"Well if the field fails make sure to tell the Daemons that, some of them might die laughing." the psyker replies blandly, grabbing up his weapons, ensuring his autopistol is loaded and his firebombs are primed. he turns to address the battle sisters question features hardening into professional tone and posture
"Yes, Battle Sister if the containment of the field is punctured for even a moment it fails. If that happens we stand completely unprotected in the depths of the warp. We must reach the generator with all haste for to do otherwise is to damn every soul on this ship."

After a few minutes of tense walking through the dark hallways, you find yourself at the quarters of the tech-priest in charge of regulating this sector of the ship. While the person who resides here is absent, probably having departed in a hurry given the slew of papers and blood stains across the room, you manage to scrounge up a data-slate.

However, there is a crack in the chassis; the machine may be damaged and its spirit gravely offended.

Make a Tech-Use Test if you have it. Since you're in a tech-priest's quarters, you get a +10 because of helpful diagrams and rituals for interacting with such machines.

Simmins could make an attempt as tech use is a basic skill for him, but if I am correct it means that he still has to roll less than 24 as he has a low int. Probably better if someone else tries. Also Simmins should be either near the front line or rear guard

Titus shakes his head as the others begin to file out in to the halls of the cruiser, if it were not for the urgency of the current predicament he would have stopped to try and understand how this had all come to be. It is all a test, always a test. He pushes himself up off the floor and begins to follow behind the rest. Aged hands quickly check that he still possessed the blessed medikit that he feared he would soon need. Hard step and purposeful stride bring him in to lock step with the others, trying to position himself in the middle of the pack as they pushed to their destination.

Finding the tech-priests quarters a mess he steels himself for the worst. They may well die out in the warp...A test, just another test, every single step a test. Titus looked through the room a little more carefully while the others spent their time investigating the data-slate.

Simmins manages to get the device to work. With a series of chirping noises, the data slate hums to life and blows up a map of the floor you're currently on.

From your current position, you will need to head to the rear of the ship. Take the service tram seven floors down, walk another quarter of a kilometer and you should be placed right in front of the entrance to the Gellar Field generators. However, bypassing the lock requires either the gene-locked key of the magos or an Inquisitorial Rosette.

As you peruse through the map, a small warning appears in the corner of the tablet. When you click it, a small message reads:

{Technomancers be advised: the heretics have seized control of the murder-servitors. Warn the navy personel attached to you and proceed with extreme caution. They are armed and extremely dangerous.}

I wonder, was it simple chance? is the Inquisitor gambling thousands of lives on our success or is this simply a bluff?

After once again checking the hall in both directions outside the magos' chamber, Brother Gabriel glances in. "Odd, or perhaps divine providence? For what if the Emperor himself saw into the vastness of the warp, and foreseeing the attack sent us in this direction. Perhaps he even provoked Cimbria and Vector to confront each other, so that we would be placed unconscious in the locker. For if we were conscious when we arrived on board, we would like be near the command deck, and thus tied up right now fighting the heretics. But Emperor be praised we were placed where we were, and thus are able to respond to the imminent threat to the Gellar Field. Have faith brethren."

Glancing into the hall again, "We best get moving. But what of this key? Is there anything in this chamber that would work as the magos' gene key, or was one of you perhaps granted Inquisitor Alistair's-"

As if suddenly interrupted, Brother Gabriel stops speaking and starts cycling through the different channels on his microbead, listening for chatter on any other frequencies. "Do any of you know what channel either Inquisitor Alistair specifically, or Inquisitors in general, prefer to use?"

"Our being here as fortune or not I can only guess, foresight is not my blessing. I can only guess that an Inquisitor would use a private channel or a personal telepath.
Looking at the stains on the floor and the office in general he considers.
"Do we know if this is the Magos's quarters? If so the blood on the floor could serve as a possible method of opening a gene lock. though I do not know the specifics of such a device."

By a cursory inspection, the quarters that you are currently inhabiting are not that of a Lord Magos. Such a quarters would contain more machinery and holy technologies of the Mechanicus.

As you finish your search and ready yourselves to make your way to the tram, you hear a series of noises coming from down the hallway. They begin faintly, but slowly begin to grow in noise and intensity as whatever is causing the phenomena are getting closer...

DUN-DUN-DUUUN~!

"I am bereft of knowledge of each of those subjects, if the Magos' blood could be of use... Sister Renata states, checking the corridor they came from.

"As Brother Gabriel states, if there is nothing left of use here we should hasten to our objective."

Passing Simmins she grasps his shoulder and murmurs "Well done, guardsman."

Hearing the noise coming nearer she hisses to the others "Something comes... make ready!"

She finds a doorway or crate or something to take cover behind , draws her bolter and watches the corrider from where the commotion emanates.

Roth pulls his pistol in a quick motion. He springs to the the corner that turns into the hallway. From cover he aims down the corridore. Ready to light them up.

Resisting the urge to charge down the corridor with his axe Simmins copies the Sister's motion and finds cover on the front line ready to fire at anything that comes within 20 meters of his position with his shotgun. Emperor preserve us he mutters.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

IT LIVES!!!

Oh and could back up by a few steps?
I'd hope with the amount of time we had on it that by now we could have figured out an answer to the question we had.
That being, searching the mutants and other prisoners 1.Do we find more evidence of this being the only *escape pod*
2.Guns and loot and such would be good, doubtful they had anything of merit but more guns in the chance of a jam would be good.

Because if the prisoner we were interrogating was telling the truth we'd have at least half a reason not to kill her.

Then we can get to the midnight murder raid as every single other freak and psycho in the capital wasteland comes rushing us all at once.
Good thing we have the shattered remains of 2! grimdark carts to cower behind.

But really #1 is going to be the big one as our Adept has been waiting for an exceedingly long time to post something with actual merit.

I can't find the fright table in the book, what does 11 get you?

Male human Nerd 2

Both 11 and 15 get you the lowest thing.
Pretty sure its page 233 ib the core book. You can find it on the index in the Gm portions under Fear I think.
Anyway...
You guys are startled by the darkness, you can only make a half action for the round following the test. After that you're fine.
Thats from memory though so I could be wrong. I did just look at that chart yesterday though.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

So being that vector acted before the pyromancer got into position would that cound as a shared 'surprise' round on her and vectors part for actions? The round where the girl spent moving to get where she is now
Or did vector just spend this rounds actions prepping his fire grenade? Want to know if I can act now or need to wait til everyone has had their own action.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Mah. Not even a roll on the absolutely fantastic DH crit charts?

Looking at it she takes
from the inital bomb strike
Energy: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
From burning
Burn: 1d10 ⇒ 4
and 20 points of ballistic damage from 3 sources.

Assuming that her small stature emulates an in game effect that means she likely had 20 toughness rather than 30ish of the normal witch.

tossing off the 2 points on the fire bomb from toughness she'd have tken 22 points of damage and be into the 7 and up range.

lets see... impact critical.
too lazy to check the proper method for detemining full auto strikes...
location: 1d5 ⇒ 5
So the head.
would be:
The attack slams into the target’s head, fracturing his skull and opening a long tear in his scalp.
The target is Stunned for 1d10 Rounds and halves all movement for 1d10 hours.
Or a general energy critical to the torso would be
The intense power of the energy attack cooks the target’s organs, burning his lungs and heart with intense
heat. The target is Stunned for 2d10 Rounds and reduces his Toughness by half (round down).

Regardless she'd be stunned and the fire is still burning so energy damage again.
She'd pop all the way up to E10crit of
E9-
The target is completely encased in fire, melting his skin and popping his eyes like superheated eggs. He
falls to the ground a blackened corpse.
E10-
As above, except in addition, if the target is carrying any ammunition, there is a 50% chance it
explodes. Unless they can make a successful Dodge Test, all creatures within 1d5 metres take 1d10+5
Explosive Damage. If the target carried any grenades or missiles, one round after the Damage was dealt
they detonate where the target’s body lies with the normal effects.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

So has anyone encountered a 'silencer' type thing for Las weapons in the 40K universe? Perhaps swapping the weapon into a non-visible category of emissions. Or at least less visible than the neon vibrant beams typically pictured for las weapons.
An ultraviolet sniper las would be awesome.

If not I'm thinking I might want to pick ballistic weapons as my Basic training. Giving every bad guy in the area a big ol' laser pointer directly back to me (oh he of squishy body) seems like an exceptionally bad idea.
Well unless Distort images's ability counts to make the particle trail of the gun lead back to the double I'm projecting. That could make for some shenanigans.

I've got some bad news. For some reason or another, my computers Internet browser keeps on timing out whenever I try to load the paizo website. So for the indefinite future, I will try to post updates to the campaign from my iPhone. Please be patient while I try to sort my Wi-Fi out as well as forgive any typing or formatting mistakes should they arise in future posts.

If you have any idea as to why my computer's doing this or have gone through similar experiences where you are and have resolved them, i'd appreciate any input you can provide.

I'll try and get an update the soon as I can for the campaign.

Thanks,

Alistair/Maca673

Did you try a different browser?

or clear your cache and cookies

@Simms: I'm using Chrome and I've tried switching to IE, but I still get the same result of the damn browser timing out. It's really frustrating.

@Roth: Hmm. Can't say that I've tried that yet. I'll give it a try and report back later.

Hey Fenwick, what are the mechanics of getting rid of corruption. That's really what Simmins is after

Lemme see...regretfully, there is nothing in the Corruption section of the CRB that allows players to remove Corruption. That's only for insanity. Looks like the taint of Chaos isn't gonna go away anytime soon.

That being said, how much corruption points do you have?

+2, got a bad roll on the Divination character creation dice throw.

Check Dark Heresy Ascension. I went poking around online and someone said something about it being in there.

Also:

WAIT A MINUTE HERE MR. GM....Are you running a Reign of Winter game as well??? Are you cheating on us with other players???? Shameless hussy!

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

So.. we still good here? You waiting on one of us to post Fenwick?
If so I'm pretty sure two weeks is far beyond what any PbP player could expect to get in lee way to put something up.

Sorry. I've been readjusting to college life for the spring semester, and it's been taking its toll. Additionally, my comupter short-circuited and started smoking, so I've also had to deal with replacing my laptop as well.

tl;dr Been busy, but I'm not abandoning the game. I just need some time to get my life in order. Hopefully I'll be able to update this week.

Yeah short circuiting is rough, but starting smoking is entirely preventable. Make sure you reinforce that smoking stunts your growth. I hear the American Lung Assoc has some nice pamphlets available as well.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Uhh Cimbria I'm fairly sure what is meant by that sentence is that the computer both short circuited and started smoking.

I'll wait patiently, please do keep us in the loop when things occur though. Even if its to let us know that you can't really manage to do anything I'd very much prefer to know about it quickly rather then watching the game die a slow death over a month or two of inactivity.

Though I think at this point that I'll take some liberties and say the Vector has small trouble finishing his paperwork but accomplishes it and begins practicing with the new weapons.
As vector suggested it for some reason this would also be an excellent moment for Cimbria to work any frustrations out. Because the Psyker is crazy enough to invite the person that was quite ready to murder him earlier as a sparring partner.
weirdo

She was making a joke.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Ah the wonder of text based conversation. Lost in translation I guess

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

For all who share the interest I hope you are enjoying the Superbowl.

Male Human Sanctioned Psyker: Preceptor-Savant

I haven't seen anyone clinch a throw that hard since the Titans. XD

Oh yeah, we now return to your regular purging.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Yeah it was amusing.

You might consider sending a message to some of the players. It has been a while since we last got rolling, far as I can recall if someone doesn't post in a game for two or more months it gets taken off their active list.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

*produces stick of GM prodding*
*prod*

Waiting for Cimbria. She can spawn in as appropriate, so I'll try to keep combat a long way to give her some time to come back.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Soo... you get any response from Cimbria yet?

Male human Nerd 2

One last ditch prodding here. could we just try to move on with who we sill have? if we have anyone left that is.

We may have lost our GM with all the waiting.

Sorry I haven't been here for awhile. Midterms are coming, and I've been abstaining from the website because of intense studying that may decide whether or not I get into a major program for next year. I'll message Cimbria today and post an update in the Gameplay tab.

@Cimbria: Feel like saying that Cimbria and Vector have gained a minor understanding of each other through the shared pass time of punching each other in the face from martial drills?

It would be kind of amusing if the library staff on this ship were female, Titus's reputation as a pimp could spread further and he could be accosted by pent up librarians all week. Hopefully not the Space Marine kind.

*snort* Lord, now I'm imagining an Space Marine propositioning Titus. My pet cat is looking at me strangely from my sudden laughter.

Memorization Roll 37: 1d100 ⇒ 40

so close....

What roll is memorization?

Male Human Sanctioned Psyker: Preceptor-Savant

Intelligence would probably be the closest thing for memorization rolls. With that said, to recall information, I'd probably give you penalties or bonuses depending on how obscure/common the information you're trying to recall is.

On the plus side I will have a talent for that pretty soon.

Male human Nerd 2

Perfect memory is a great talent.

Guardsman / Heavy Gunner Wounds 14/17; WS 30;BS 48;S 42;T 51; Agi 33; Int 26; Per 36;WP 38;Fel 38; Fate 1/2; Insanity 10

Oh well. Simmins isn't much for reading things anyway.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

But we love you for you brick like brain function. Just keep murdering things and you're good.

Til Titus gets his memory talent though we should probably keep the data slate close.

Quiet in here all of a sudden!

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Just trying to sneak on on the Kay-oos. Unfortunately their bacon scented minion distracted me.

Rolling forward at this point would be good. After all we have a crate of firebombs to use, need some proper targets.

Sorry for the delay.

I have a huge project on the Smithsonian natural history museum that I have to present to my class. It goes over the relationship between man and nature, his effects on it, and what can be done to prevent the eventual degradation of the earth and why we haven't done it yet.

I know it is outside of our current common/uncommon limit, but is there any chance that I could get a combi-tool as the gear that came for me. Also I will grab one of the generic knives from the loot so I have something I can sort of use.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

A shotgun of middling quality might also be a good selection for a Mine fight. Won't need much skill with weapons if the enemy is close enough to choke on the barrel.

Oh and lights. Can we assume that the we were provided with lanterns and flashlights?

WS: 37 BS: 39 St: 35 To: 32 Ag: 33 In: 37 Per:31 WP: 38 Fe: 35 Wounds: 12 Fate: 2/3 Wealth: 20 Awareness (per) 31 CL Adeptus Arbites (int) 37 CL Imperium (int) 37 Inquiry (fel) 45/40 Ironclaw (39) 30m S/2/- 1d10+4I pen: 0 clp: 12 Rld: Full reliable, Scatter H-O Creed-9 50m S/3/10 1d10+3I pen: 0 clp: 35 red dot sight Silencer Flak cloak 3 All

Yes more shotguns! (I prefer the Ironclaw)

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

For the price Ironclaws are very good. The added option of beating someone with it is a nice plus as well.
Most of the other shotguns are about the same power level so it is an easy weapon to carry and use in a pinch.
Well ignoring the option of the Skittari tech priest shotgun because that piece of technology is simply too good to exist. Automatic fire and Scatter combined on one gun easily turns any reasonable encounter into chunky salsa.

I suppose we could always light vector on fire with all these firebombs and have him be the torch.

Guardsman / Heavy Gunner Wounds 14/17; WS 30;BS 48;S 42;T 51; Agi 33; Int 26; Per 36;WP 38;Fel 38; Fate 1/2; Insanity 10

Not very familiar with the rules or the armoury, so any suggestions should be welcome. I think Simmins has enough ammo and armour though.

http://www.40krpgtools.com/armoury/weapons/

Helps sort through the weapons available, just remember to set the filter on system to dark heresy... Death Watch weapons are stupid. As for rules, feel free to ask and I can answer most rules of the different 40k systems.

Male Human Sanctioned Psyker: Preceptor-Savant

As of this moment in time, you can only take anything from Abundant to Plentiful with a max cap of 200 thrones per person.

Male Psykana Aspirant Wounds:8 Fate:1/1 (1) Armor: 7/7/7/7, awareness:45, initiative:+6, Dark holder

Which puts my hunting rifle (Scarce) way out of reach.
Also makes basically every weapon short of Hive ganger pistols unavailable to us as the Cadre of an inquisitor.
*shrug* More firebombs for me I guess.

Man the Scarcity modifiers in DH are really weird.

Also why in the HELL is a Vanahiem pattern Skittari shotgun that cheap and that easily available.
Dropping the Mon-blade Bayonet and the red dot means the gun itself is only valued at something like 220 thrones.
