"Arya!" Aviari cries, happy that she is not alone down in this place. "Who is else down here? Teraldan, Bogo, Quill?"

"This place is dark, but my light should help. Come, let's search the perimeter."

Aviari begins to lead a search around the perimeter of the room using her magical light to see.

"I am here Aviari" - Teraldan retorts, getting up - "Stand ready, there might be follow ups to this trap" - he gets his weapons at the ready, standing defensively.

Nee struggles with Malthor's sarcasm. She gets the distinct impression the dwarf may have been being unkind to some degree. Looking into the room her friends departed from in such a surprising manner the young warrior becomes somewhat scared.

Nee follows after Malthor.

"Just so's you know I'm only coming with you because I'm more scared of whatever happened to them than I am of you. Or whatever else we find this way. Currently."

Here Nee makes a point of looking Malthor up and down.

"I don't think you are being very nice to me. At all." She pauses a moment, then points down the corridor. "After you."


Suddenly, you see the floor begin to move beneath the five's feet. As the floor swings down from a binge near the south wall, the five fall into thc darkness landing on the floor below. The floor swings back into position abovc them, creating a strong gust of air that extinguishes all torches and lanterns.

basement:
No one in the party takes any damage from the slide. Party members with infravision (now darkvision) can see.

When light is restored the fallen remaining party memben also see the following:
You are in a room about 30 feet square. It appean to be empty. A corridor leads off in one direction.
The room is empty. The five of the party is now on the lower level of the fortress.

All But Aviari, Arya, Teraldan, Bogo and the elven rogue:
Examining the hinging mechanism, it appears to be solidly locked in place. A laughing female voice speaks: "Those are dead, forget about them. BWAAHAA HAA!!" Looking closely, you see the loose stone by the X--you are relatively sure it is safe to uncover the loose stone without falling.

Umm, a little confused - is that first paragraph describing the five falling again? And then the second spoiler is for Denlin, Ni-Cu, Malthor and Maldor?

Denlin, Malthor, Maldor and Nee:
"Oh look. The stone - there - it's loose!"

Barely considering the chancy floor, Nee moves over to the stone and lifts it.

Arya, Aviari, Bogo, Quill and Teraldan:
Aviari smiles with relief to see Teraldan well, and then tenses at his words and then relaxes. She fastens the holly sprig with the light on it in her hair and then draws her club and shield.

"You are right my friend. It would be strange to have a trap sending us down into this room without some danger awaiting us."

I'm also kinda confused... did the other members of the party just now fall as well, but into a different room, or was that this just a second description of Arya, Teraldan and I, along with the NPCs falling in?

'I will stand guard at the corridor' - the halfling nods at Aviari - 'Surely there must be more to this' - then moves off to stand guard with his bow, peering down the corridor.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 15


Aviari, Arya, Teraldan, Bogo and the elven rogue moved into the room and are now in the basement.

The rest are still on the ground floor.

I will move things along

The sound of the newcomers in the basement allow the denizens to move into position.

Aviara 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Arya 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Teraldan 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
The Quill 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Enemy 1 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Teraldan is fast enough to see the bestial humanoids approach. The orcs are holding short swords in each hand. The leader holds a single glowing shortsword with a shield.

This is one of those old school split the party opportunities. Those advancing in go to the basement, those that don't, stay up on the ground floor.

Upstairs, the stone is moved where the X is on the map.

Hidden treasure:
Inside is found: a clerical scroll with three cure light wound spells, a potion of polymorph self(1abeled). a potion of enlarge human, a war hammer, and another treasure map.

'Orcs!' - Teraldan warns his companions, taking a step back, and attacking the first orc in line.

Longbow Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage if it hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Longbow Attack crit confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Additional damage if it crits: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 6) + 2 = 14

Hmmmm... Maybe they are flat footed? :D

Teraldan takes the lead orc down.

Nee shares her discovery with Maldor, Malthor and Denlin, though she is obviously unable to discern the script on the scrolls nor able to use the warhammer effectively...

"Magic potions and a new Map!" she exclaims somewhat needlessly.

Then, she looks at Malthor, and holds out the warhammer to the Dwarven Cleric:

"A hammer for you Grumpy!"

You have to look at the second tab on the bottom labeled 'Basement'... =)

Maldor offers to hold the potion of polymorph self, and recommends Denlin or Malthor take the potion of enlarge self. It's always fun to have a giant fighter clearing a room of baddies!!

Nee turns the parchment/paper around and around.

"Not sure. Take a look!" handing the map to Malthor.

What does the map show GM?


Malthor looks at the map, it appears to show another treasure at the bottom left of the map.

The map shows a northern room of a corridor heading east, the corridor bends south with three rooms to the east, then bends west with a room to south. The map shows an X in the south west corner of that room to the south.


I was waiting for others to place on the basement map, but we will go with who is there.

The orcs swarm around the group, but only two and the chief have the reserves to attack. The chief attacks Teraldan, but he is prepared for the blow. The two lackeys fail to connect with the rogue, who barely turns aside the shortswords with his studded leather jerkin.

Bogo retaliates and scores a single claw on one of his attackers.

Nee grips her javelin tight, starting to feel very unsure about this place.

"Let's find the others quickly. Or the treasure on the map!" Nee smiles nervously, but the staunch dwarf is already off down the corridor. Nee follows on...

Alright, here I am! Sorry to hold you up Teraldan- didn't mean to be in your way. I guess I was hoping against hope for Arya to appear...

Aviari nimbly darts aside to make space for Teraldan. She then raises a hand as lightning crackles about her fingers, and an arc of ligthing dances at the orc engaging Quill! (Orc in Y9)

Ranged touch, lightning arc: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 4 = 15

Melee shot penalty factored in.

The lighting blazes through the air, and (most likely, it appears) strikes its target!

Fzak!: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
