*:LUCK OF HEROES: Add one to your AC (touch and ff too) and add one to all your saves. As a starting hero in the Duchy you are exceptionally Lucky. This feat can only be selected as a brand new character at level 1. Appearance and Manners:
Aviari has long, flowing golden blonde hair, piercing blue-green eyes, and the all the best combinations of human and elvish features. As a woman, she is quite beautiful. Full body portrait. This should give an over all idea of Aviari's appearance. Aviari's eye color.
However, she is also one who clearly grew up in the Wilds, who thinks of the woods as her home. Her piercing eyes are constantly alert, subtly shifting to keep track of what is happening around her. Her head occasionally turning to the side, as if she some far away sound has reached her very pointy, elvish ears. Her dress is a simple green cloak, leather armor, with solid boots, wooden bracers, and simple girdle. She carries a heavy wooden shield, club, sling, and quarter staff. She carries two pouches full of many herbs, holly and misteltoe and other essentials of druidic practice. Aviari wears only three items of jewelry. She has green beads in her hair, a pendant made of holly flower and leaves around her neck, and a single emerald green ring on her finger. The flower and leaves of the pendant have the shape of a swan in ascending flight. Somehow, the flower and leaf of this pendant is perfectly preserved, as if somehow kept in a serene life by the magic of her druidic faith. The ring is made of actual oak leaves that seem alive in verdant green color. This is her grandfather's ring, and exudes the magic of the druidic gardener. Besides the plain beads, Aviari decorates her hair with twigs, holly leaves and feathers from ravens, hawks, owls and swans. Although physically attractive, and confident in herself, she tends to very quiet, and inwardly drawn, or her attention is drawn away by the surroundings, rather than focused on who she may be speaking to or meeting for the first time. She has a tendency to talk to herself, having little filter between her private thoughts and what she says aloud. As one who has been alone so much, this is not something she recognizes as a problem. She is slow to trust, but overly trusting once she is comfortable around someone. She can be blunt, direct, is often overly honest with her company. However, she is clearly of good heart, and values friendship deeply. This complex combination of traits averages her charisma as being above average, but not extraordinary. She is attractive, good-hearted, and friendly when she wants to be, but blunt, overly direct and honest, and often drawn into meditation and observation of the scenery.
Backstory:
Fathered by a Thyatian explorer, Aviari was born to the Vyalia elves far in the North-Eastern border of the Grand Duchy of Karameikos. On edge of civilization, she grew up with hardly any knowledge that she was even in a kingdom. Her entire world was the North Eastern wilds.
She was raised among the Etherdyl tribe of Vyalia elves. At first she was taught the way of the Etherdyl philosopher, the way of the elven priestess; however, her human nature made her always estranged from her own people. Her early onset of maidenhood, her clearly human features, the stigma her mother received for breeding with a human, eventually resulted in her leaving her people. Whether she was banished, or left by choice, because she did not feel she truly belonged, she usually does not say. She maintained a distant relationship with her elven people, and occasionally interacted with some of the humans on the North-Eastern frontier settlement. However, Aviari was mostly alone in her wanderings of the wilds. She completed her basic training as a priestess by seeking the tutelage of any sages or hermits with some mystical power who would teach her. One such tutor was an actual dryad, who taught her the language of the fey, and how she may eventually achieve a deeper connection to the wilderness. She further had an encounter with a swan maiden who was an inspiration for her in paying respect to the sky and all forms of birds. She stayed with each of these the longest, but eventually went on her way to see more of the North Eastern Wilds. Otherwise, she cultivated what she learned by long hours of meditations in places where she could feel an especially strong connection to the land. Much else of what she knows is drawn from surviving in the wilds relying mostly on herself. She has thus become a self-styled druid and weather witch, very unlike the traditional Vyalia elven cleric. The Wilds themselves have become Aviari's deity and primary teacher. By learning to survive, her senses have become impressively keen, exceptional even for her race. While she is not much of a warrior, she has been able to survive by noticing danger before it falls on her, and then getting away. Sometimes she covered her escape by conjuring mist. Surviving the wilds has forced her to learn how to live off the land, taught her much about nature, and although her magical training is grounded in that of Vyalia cleric, her magic is shaped by her profound connection to the Wilderness. Having spent much of her life so far in solitude, Aviari has a tendency to talk to herself out loud. She has lived between two worlds two cultures, neither of which she belongs. She therefore feels most at home at in the Wilderness and in solitude. She is not quick to make friends. However, the few friends she has made in her travels she values deeply, even if many of them are as transient as a single shared journey. Friendships are easier for her with fellow travelers. Since such relationships are rare and few, she commits herself to friendship with tenacity for while it lasts. She can, therefore, be both inspiring and frightening in her loyalty. As she has become her own person, and learned how to survive in nearly any sort of woodland setting, Aviari has traveled further West from her home than she had in her earlier years. In her travels, she has learned of the Calarii elves, and their relationship with the grand-duchy. These elves serve the duchy in an elf guard, and seem to live among humans without any difficulties, in stark contrast to the divided, solitary existence she has known. Where elves and humans thrive together, half-elves must be there a'plenty! This is a place where I would be welcome, where I might belong! Aviari has traveled to the capitial city of the Grand-Duchy of Karameikos in the hopes of joining up with the elf-guard, or at least finding a place for herself where her mixed lineage may be regarded as a wonderful thing, rather than as a sad, lonely tragedy. Aviari's Adventuring Party:
Aviara - half-elf druid Arya - human bard Denlin - human barbarian Lindell - elf rogue Maldor - human abjurer Malthor - dwarf cleric Ni-Cu - human monk Teraldan - halfling paladin- and leader of the group Teraldan is the group leader, the adventuring company is called Teraldan's tigers. While Aviari does not mind being called a Tigress, she regrets not having Mungo in her group. However, her current party seems to have promise. She has an elf companion now, and quite a few people with magical expertise. Things shall be more clear out in the open air, on the road once more.
Aviari's Diary:
It was a relief to get out of the town and back into the Wilds. I never realized how stuffy a closed room could be. My new horse Zephyr rides true to her name, though my legs are sore after three days.
I have also gotten to know some of my companions during the ride. We finally came upon the fortress where Elwyn is supposedly raising his army. We were all quite impressed at the sight. There is something daunting about a castle built all out of iron.
My companions showed the courage of true heroes in this fight. I saw Ni Cu torn apart before my eyes, and when I healed her, she went straight back to fighting from the ground! Denlin sundered apart no less then two of the reptiles, and even Maldor, who was not wearing any armor, or carrying any shield stood in the middle of the fight, using his magic to protect some of us and to stun the creatures.
Aviari's Gear:
On herself: backpack, candle (1), chalk (2), flint and tinder, grandfather's oak leaf ring, healer's kit (10 uses), holly, holly symbol and misteltoe, leather armor, quarter staff, signal whistle, sling and bullets, spell components, traveler's outfit, violet tiger emblem cloak, water flask Remaining coin (3 gp, 9 sp, 7 cp) On Zephyr's back: Heavy wooden shield, saddle with feed in bags, scimitar in scabbard
On Tarn's back: Basket, bedroll, 2 blankets, 2 sq. yds. canvas, club, crowbar, grappling hook, hammer, common lamp, 4 pints oil, 4 pitons, 10-ft. Pole, small steel mirror, hemp rope 50 ft., Spade, spare traveler's outfit with two spare cloaks- one gray and one green, 2 bars soap, 3 torches, 2 waterskins, Whetstone Grandfather's Oak Leaf Ring:
Aviari inherited a ring with twisted oak leaves from her elven grandfather and disciple of Ordana. Her grandfather was known as a great gardener, and, since wearing the ring, Aviari has a way with plants. This ring grants +1 to the caster level for any spells involving plants or vegetation. Up to three seeds held in the hands of a druid can be converted to magic stones per the spell as a standard action once per day. Tarn, the Mule:
Tarn the Mule- A mixed breed horse and donkey Aviari found wandering feral in the Southern reaches of the Vyalia wilds. She befriended him over about a year. As her relationship with this mule developed, he eventually became her pack mule. It was shortly after the beginning of this friendship, that Aviari learned of the Duchy of Karameikos and the role of the Callirii elves in the capital. Aviari then began preparing for the life of a professional adventurer. Over a year of preparation, Aviari began to acquire more things than she could carry on her own back. She Asked Tarn if he would bear her burden, and so he became her pack mule. She has had this friendship with this beast for about three years now. Tarn is intrepid. He gladly carries a light-medium load of Aviari's things and willingly follows her where-ever she goes, even into areas that a normal beast would not venture. However, he is stubborn, and is unwilling to be ridden. His statistics are probably similar to the light horse seen below. Assuming his strength is 16, his vitals for the sake of carrying a burden would be as follows:
Zephyr, the Horse:
