She Is ready

Jrcmarine, would love to see the backstory.

I finally finished my character! So sorry for taking so long; I was working out how to make the concept work out build-wise in the long run.

Amren:
Amren Ua Alanya, son of Alann Ua Alanya, King of the Dorne (a small halfling tribe in Lochlannarch), is a bullheaded halfling warrior with an eye for things that glimmer and gleam. Like most young men in the tribe of Dorne, Amren was trained to fight at a young age. For the raiders of Dorne, fighting is more than just a means of warfare; it is one's way of life, goal in life, and the best end one can have to one's life. Dying a warrior's death is preferable to having a long and prosperous life.

As the fifth son and seventh child of the king, Amren saw every reason to embrace this Dornish philosophy. The boy had no chance of claiming the tribal crown with so many older siblings before him, and he had no skill as a leader. Still, he was naturally limber and his aim was good, so he focused on his axe-throwing skills instead of his chances at becoming a ruler. His skill became very clear in his first raid at the age of fourteen; in the sacking of an enemy village, Amren killed three of the opposing warriors and found a hidden stash of gold and uncut gemstones. He was officially a man.

Of course, being as good as he was at fighting and looting, Amren started to become proud and boastful. He claimed first pick of the treasures found in raids, challenged his peers to increasingly rigorous physical contests, and started to believe he was untouchable in battle. His father decided enough was enough when the young warrior actually challenged him for leadership of the tribe. Alann delivered a crushing defeat upon his son, then banished him from the tribe until he "came back with a bit more sense and a lot less stupid."

Angry and ashamed, Amren left his village and went off to find his glory. He traveled south into Wodmarch, where he found many reasons to "defend his honor" after being mocked for his size by other warriors. He eventually found some gainful employment as a mercenary there, and has been fighting for the highest bidder ever since.

* * * * *

My plans for this character's build are pretty straightforward: He's specialized in throwing axes. He's going to chuck them at things until things die. He'll perform best with Agile Throwing Axes and a Blinkback Belt, and I do plan on getting those when the time (eventually) comes. Two-Weapon Fighting with these weapons will be a thing, and I'm seriously considering trying to get a mount through the Animal Ally feat later... a Giant Chameleon or a Wolf.

Amren is Chaotic Neutral as I've written him. His primary reasons for adventuring are gold and glory; he'll want to get fame as a mighty warrior, and he'll want to get enough gold to build a nice, big mead hall where he can display trophies of the monsters he's slain. For similar reasons, he won't go out of his way to kill humanoids (he's been there and done that), but he'll be happy to throw himself at a dragon, manticore or troll.

Is there anything I should change?

Hey, I just saw this, and am definitely interested in the campaign! It seems like a lot of fun.

My concept is for a halfling Mad Dog barbarian, coming from far south of Wodmarch.

Jibjib Fangbearer:

Jibjib comes from the deep jungles south of Wodmarch. He was raised in a small tribe of halflings called the Fangbearers, renowned for their skill with beasts. He was a rising star in his tribe, having found a carnosaur (stats as Spinosaurus) egg and rearing it as his own. Trouble arose during a dispute over a games of bones (a complex betting game in which each halfling throws a bunch of bones, and results come from if certain bones cross or not). In this game, the chief's son accused Jibjib of cheating. Jibjib was always hotheaded, and upon being accused of such deed, flew into a rage, and proceeded to beat the snot out of his opponent. Unfortunately, the Fangbearers viewed the chief's family as holy halflings, and the punishment for the assault was exile. The chief's son, when finally sober, was willing to put the fight behind them if Jibjib was willing to give up his prize mount, but Jibjib refused.

Packing his trusty obsidian greatsword, a few days worth of rations, and his gear for Bloodgorger, his carnosaur, Jibjib set out for fame and fortune. Eventually, he stumbled upon a village in Wodmarch. He tended his time in Wodmarch, working as a farm hand and helping to train animals, until the tidings of war came. He packed up his trusty blade and traveled to find this war. While looking for battle, he met a company of eleven mercanaries riding giant geckos, also setting forth for battle. Surprisingly enough, the lizards were not at all disturbed by Jibjib's mount, and after proving himself to the company, was picked up.

During the war, the Dragon Riders (as they were called by the commoners, confused by their strange mounts) found much glory and bloodshed. Fighting mainly in the woods, these guerilla fighters were used mainly as shock troopers. During the final battle, in which the crown prince was slain, Jibjib and his comrades charged straight through the battle, hoping to protect their employer. Jibjib personally slew a great warrior by the name of Barren Boldshield who was attempting to mount the crown princes head on a lance. After slaying this great brute, Jibjib personally retrieved the crown princes body and brought it back to the newly crowned King Oleg. It is this deed that he is being honored for.

Appearance and Demeanor:

http://min.us/i/xCH1pFJzIUgm (picture)
Jibjib is 25 years old, and is about 3 feet tall. What he lacks in height, he makes up for in sheer physicality, and has won many coins from bold men who underestimate his strength. He is heavily tattooed, with his arms covered with many mystical beasts, from dinosaurs to mindflayers. He carries around his trusty obsidian greatsword, and when acceptable rides around on Bloodgorger. He is a gruff halfling with a bit of a gambling and drinking problem, with no formal education. He is very knowledgeable about the woods and is very gifted with animals.

In combat, he wades into the carnage on Bloodgorger and swings with his unique sword, caring little for defense. He has extreme bravery and will engage the enemy with little fear for personal safety. This is mainly because he tribe believes that death in battle is one of the greatest deaths a warrior can hope for.

Before I forget, three things about my character that I think are important:

1) My character is starting with a level in Barbarian, but that is not his favored class. Amren is going pure Lore Warden afterwards, at least for 12 levels or so, if the game reaches that point.

2) Amren has Coincunning. Essentially, he can sniff out treasure like a Dwarf has Stonecunning.

3) I may try using the Sliding Axe Throw feat, though depending on what I decide to do it may be a long time before I take it. I DO want to use it, but having an animal companion at the early levels that I could ride would be a godsend as a ranged character.

Eesh, I just saw that our concepts are very similar!

Halfling pit fights incoming? Take your bets on the jungle halfling or the one from the snow?

Jibjib loves gambling and fighting. I think he would love to take part in this! :P

...Wow, I'm looking back and comparing our character ideas point for point:

1) Neither character takes insults lightly.
2) Both were banished from their tribes.
3) Both like fighting.
4) Both like gambling.
5) Both are halfling barbarians.
6) Both have fought as mercenaries.
7) And they're both quick to anger.
8) Both see death in battle as GLORIOUS!

Yeah, it's like they're long lost twins or something.

Silver Crusade

I am going to back out, I wish all of you an awesome campaign

Silver Crusade

Do we have a list of characters?

I'm working to compile a list of submission now.
Sorry to hear you're bowing out WIllow; hope you found a great campaign elsewhere!

I think this is the current list of applicants:

Martial
Jason Argus (Fallen Mage) -- Spartan-esque half-orc
Bane 88 (Ong'rag) Half Orc Samurai from the west
Jrcmarine -- Half Orc/Aasimar skirmisher, hatred of humans
Jibjib Fangbearer -- halfing barbarian
Inlaa -- Light Cav or bard from foreign land, Irish feel

Divine
Rednal -- druid
Liandri El'Shuwadh -- Aasimir Inquisitor
Rysky -- Antipaladin of war/vengeance/nihilism

Arcane
Willem vo Doggenburg (Kallikrates) -- buffing arcane caster
Otm-Shank -- Mindchemist alchemist
Ulric Ver Nifheim -- Half Elven Archeologist
Faisal Ethelwyn's -- Elven Wizard

I'm leaving submissions open until midnight tonight (EST... GMT-5). Currently have spots for 12 and we have 12 completed applicants, so this might be very easy. Does look like we could still use a healer or two.

I actually changed my submission a bit, GM_Eric. You can see it in a post above; it's a throwing-focused halfling, arguably Celtic or Norse based. ...He has a kilt.

Yeah I noticed, got lazy with my cut and paste from before and updating since then :)

Here is Jibjib statted up. I kind of see him as Incan/Aztec like (basing him kind of off the lizardmen from Warhammer Fantasy: hence the carnosaur heh)

Silver Crusade

this is my submission, I normally lean towards paladin but I wanted to try an Inquisitor for the first time.

Spoiler:
Kyras Lorach had always been interested in not only combat, but attempting to figure out who was lying to him. From a young age he was a taciturn boy with eyes that could pierce a grown man. He always orchestrated the wargames he and other children participated in. Any arguments were settled quickly when he intervened, almost always proving to judge who was right. Eventually the year that he could finally enlist in the realms military came. Alas, it was that same day when the recruiters came to the town that a Lochlannach viking raid struck the town. Kyras was appalled when he saw the military men forming ranks in the middle of the town as the Vikings slaughter his friends and family. His tacticians mind told him this was the proper response and the one most likely of success, but as he watched his child hood friends cut down where they stood trying in vain to defend themselves something clicked. In a blind rage he shouted, he shouted in defiance of the in glorious deaths of his comrades, a death in battle was a worthy end, but this was no battle, it was slaughter, these were not warriors they were children, farmers, blacksmiths. Against all odds, Kyras fought his way through the raiding party, His greatsword cutting swathes in the now stalled ranks. He was a man possessed, he had judged the cowardly vikings, and the judgement was death. By all rights he should have died that day when he faced the raiding party's leader. A wild battle raging around him as the military had charged forward after seeing his awe inspiring counter assault. The huge man, clearly an experienced and trained warrior, rendered Kyras defenseless in mere seconds.

NO, I WILL NOT LOSE, if there be any strength in me, I will not fail. Be there any god who hears and cares, grant me the strength to destroy this coward, this un-honorable rat. I BEG YOU!

He prayed in vain, he was never a truly religious person, he knew his pleads would fall on deaf ears, He cried out then, a cry of pain, of anger, of denial, but most of all, a cry of defiance. He cried out for his friends, his family, for those lost in this cowardly assault. For the lives ended too soon.

it was then he felt a surge, something powerful filled his limbs with renewed strength. without thinking He grabbed his blade, and against all odds stuck down the raid leader. He then fell into unconsciousness.

tossing and turning in his deep slumber he was visited by an angel, or at least, it took the form of an angel. It was, a dwarf angel?

you have been blessed young one, the mighty Torag has heard your plee, strength, honor, protection, these are his tenants, he offers you the privilege of roaming the land, protecting the weak, helping them defend themselves. Root out those who would harm them, remember your values, uphold what is in your heart. now awaken, your kingdom needs you, though they do not know it.

after awakening he was honored by the mayor of the town, and given a straight cut rank to captain in the army. He joined the church of Torag, oh the talk of a human worshiping a dwarf god! He now seeks to finish this war with the cowardly and un honorable folk of the north. It is his duty, and his honor to bear the burden to protect the people. Most of all, he will protect his family, be they blood or bond.

ok, so After reading over it again he has a paladiny feel but I think it works. If there is a better deity for protecting the weak being strong and being a master Tactician let me know and I will look into it. Though I like the thought of a human worshiping torag.

crunch inc within the hour.

I think you mixed up "long lost twins or something" with "sexy, shoeless, gods of war"

*phew*

Got Saturday's backstory done, hope you like :3

Backstory:

In the waning of the Seven Year War King Johaan became distraught with anger and rage at the death of his son Henrick and so wrung an army fueled by hatred and patriotic fervor out of his kingdom to raze his enemies. Among the the more bottom rung of those swept up in the war was a group of convicts, willing to be pardoned of their crimes and sins for fighting for their country. The Black Dogs was what this expendable group went by, taking part in guerrilla warfare and the like against Lochlannach. Sneaking in behind enemy lines and causing as much chaos and damage as possible with the ample use of fire, explosives, careless disregard for life, the group functioned as a highly efficient, highly focused cleaver to carve at the points Lochlannach needed most.
Their own casualties were not as much as Wodmarch had hoped for, so when after the war newly crowned King Oleg dreaded giving some of the most vicious and dangerous criminals free rain once again, but bound by royal decree set forth by his father, he had very little choice in the matter. and then the fateful day arrived.
Coming to the courtyard to announce each of the Black Dog's pardons he was met by an astounding grisly sight, that looking back now him and the rest of the kingdom probably take as a blessing. Waiting for them in the courtyard with the rest of his guards was the Black Dogs, or what was left of them. Needing three entire carts were the heads of every single member of the Black Dogs save one. A fiendish dark skinned man with metallic blonde hailed the grisly procession to the king, one Saturday Nachtlight. When pressed for answers he replied that through the use of poison and pure determination he had laid them low in the middle of the night, every other member having gorged themselves on spiked food and drink in celebration of their coming pardon. With a stern face the King handed the man his pardon, which he accepted by kneeling to the ground, the King mockingly knighting him as Ser Saturday, Murderer of Murderers.

Working on backstory and posting crunch now. Have created this avatar for the half-orc ranger skirmisher. Am still able to play divine spellcaster if that is needed. I have a cleric of war already to go if that is the case.

I'll pop up the stats now and work on making the back story a little tighter then post that up (hopefully before I go to work at 1pm(gmt) but we'll see. If not I'll have it up this evening after work.

Alright, I'll work on pulling together some stats and setting up an alias for my pill popping researcher.

Well that took considerably longer than I had planned. Sylas changed a few times as I was creating him but here he is in nearly finished form.

I have yet to add his rise to fame during the war. I was thinking he might have invented some sort of alchemical siege weapon/tactic that was used to great effect in at least on major siege. Does this sound reasonable?

Oh, also I'm not certain I'm satisfied with this avatar but good ones for tieflings are sadly limited. I might change it in the near future after a more exhaustive search of the less likely options.

Here's my preliminary table assignments. Please let me know if you're still interested, some of the submissions were not quite complete so I might need to juggle things around a bit more.

Table 1
Willem von Doggenburg -- Human Wizard
Sylas Driss -- Tiefling Mindchemist
Jason Argus -- Half-Orc Fighter
Onrag -- Half-Orc Samurai
Saturday Nachtlicht -- Tiefling Antipalidin
Amren -- Halfing Barbarian

Table 2
Faisal Ethelwyn -- Elven Wizard
Ulric Ver Nifheim -- Half Elven Archeologist
Liandri El'Shuwadh -- Aasimar Inquisitor
Drawg Hammerfang -- Half Orc Ranger
Kyras Lorach -- Human Inquisitor
Jin-Jab -- Halfling Barbarian

Rednal, if you're still interested I'm happy to add your druid to either table, but I didn't see a submission yet.

Both tables have interested concepts -- table 1 has a higher than normal ratio of crazy/wild types, but I think they can get along. Just a reminder that the CE/CN types must still be willing to work with their group and can't just kill everyone they see -- evil doesn't mean stupid.

Please respond here if you're still interested. I'll open up discussion threads sometime tomorrow.

Hey, I am here, one thing though, I messed up my crunch, I cannot take PA at level 1. so I will be replacing it with Judgement Surge, sorry for that.

Huzzah, ready whenever you are :3

Still interested. I was hoping both the Halflings would be lumped together just for maximum crazy, but that's okay.

My character isn't just a murderfreak, don't worry; Amren is going to be a glory seeker, though, and he'll be greedy. I.E.: If there's a big, scary dragon and it would be smarter to run away than face it, there's a fair chance he'll want to hack its head off instead of doing the smart thing. He's not stupid, and he's not a psychopath, but he's cocksure and headstrong, to quote Men in Tights. And self-centered.

...This IS a complicated bunch for Group 1, though. Three Lawful Neutrals, two Chaotic Neutrals, and one Chaotic Evil. A duty-bound soldier, a ruthless antipaladin, a nobleman wizard, a glory craving axe-thrower, an alchemist seeking recognition, and an orcish samurai on an expansionist mission for his liege. Hoo, we're going to have some interesting dialogue, that's for sure. I'll make an alias for Amren before I hit the sack.

This should do.

Still here, and preparing for glory.

I agree, the dialog should be interesting.

Just out of curiousity, were any of you planning on teamwork feats? Given what I've based this character off of, it just seems natural he'd be trying to coordinate everyone's combat styles.

I hadn't thought about it, will look at the teamwork feats later to see if theirs any that catch my eye.

I hate to admit it, but Amren's setup is already pretty much booked. He'll be able to trip enemies from afar to assist melee combatants, but he may not be able to get Teamwork feats until way later. I've decided to go with the following feat setup, roughly:

1. Point Blank Shot
2. Weapon Focus (Throwing Axe)
4. Sliding Axe Throw, Precise Shot, Combat Expertise (Lore Warden)
6. Reckless Aim, Weapon Specialization
8. Quick Draw, Deadly Aim
10. Agile Maneuvers (for tripping with Sliding Axe Throw), Rapid Shot
12. TWF, Improved TWF
14. Great Weapon Focus, Greater TWF

It's going to be a very complicated thrown weapon build. I can delay a few things, and if I skip out on Sliding Axe Throw and Agile Maneuvers I can work in Teamwork feats.

I'm not asking anyone to mess with their level progressions to get teamwork feats, I'd hate to be resposible for ruining character concepts. I was just asking more for RP flavor. I like to build my characters organically, taking skills and feats based on what happens between levels. That doesn't mean I don't plan ahead, but I try not to make solid plans about leveling. For example, I plan on trying to go Stalwart Defender with Jason because right now it fits, but that may never happen, we'll see.

I will have some, eventually, be I believe we are in separate groups :3

Yeah, I get'cha, Fallen_Mage. I usually build for a particular thing, but try to leave my build a BIT open.

In Amren's build, he has a few feats I'm okay with switching out (Sliding Axe Throw, Rapid Shot, Agile Maneuvers); in fact, I probably won't get Rapid Shot after all, since it'll only net me a single extra attack. This is where I could put teamwork feats, or possibly feats relating to getting Amren a mount. I haven't quite decided yet, and I'm leaving that much open to being determined by the game. I just try to keep a core build ready to go (in this case, throwing weapons).

oh look, both inquisitors on the same group, that could be really good... or really bad.. lol

Silver Crusade

No one expects the Wodmarch inquisition :p

Oh well looks like those free teamwork feats may become handy.

Anyway I'll get the backsory poated up this afternoon. Really looking forward to this now.

Unfortunately, I was hoping for the same situation too :(

But oh well, the group I'm in looks great too! Definitely still interested. When do we get started?

I'm planning to open up discussion threads tonight when I get home from work and tidy up the existing Obsidian Portal pages with their world information. I know I owe everyone some extra help on integrating with the world, and want to do that in the discussion threads.

I'm hoping to open up the game play thread by Wednesday. (Meta -- would like to get the meeting with the king done this week, leaving the weekend for any last minute brainstorming, character retweeks, and some expedition provisioning type tasks.)

And if the two halflings really want to be together I can re-swap some people. I just thought with such similar concepts it might get redundant and neither character would be able to shine. (Or they would just keep challenging each other and distracting things :) )

Both tables look pretty good but I see that Table 1 is rather light on healing.

Sylas being the only one with access to healing of any kind will certainly make things interesting. He's more of the make-things-explode type. Well so long as they don't have academic value :P

Oh, and don't worry about the C/N. It simply fits the erratic personality I want to give him. It's not an attempt to justify him being a psychotic murderer or any of the other things C/N is sometimes used for...

I'm not sure if any of you read the Order of the Stick, but I will be roleplaying Belkor, a psycopathic murd...

Heh just kidding. Jibjib is definitely on the darker side of CN, mainly because he views death somewhat differently than most people. He (being just a little bit egotistical) views it a bit of an honor to be killed by him. He very much loves battle, and prefers fighting to most things. He views killing unarmed people as boring. Sneak attacks are completely different though...

He definitely isn't chaotic stupid though. I personally don't think that having both halflings would be redundant because they are focused on different styles of fighting (mounted vs. throwing), so I personally would think it would be a lot of fun for both halflings to be in a group, but at the same time, Table 2 looks excellent too, so I think either would be awesome.

I do love Belkor! But he is sooo the wrong person to be rebuilding/building a kingdom... :P

Im noticing a very good - evil/neutral party make-ups.

It just depends. If we were trying to build a kingdom of cats, Belkor would be great!

Jibjib is quite different than Belkor though, fortunately.

Yeah the choice of tables was slightly along those lines -- wanted one that more canonical and one that was out there.

Regarding the dearth of healing in table one, I'll throw some resources to that party when the expedition gets outfitted to make sure things have a chance of working -- later on you'll need to budget for it yourself.

You could put all the divine characters into a single group, that would fix a lot!

yes. lets put the two GOOD inquisitors in a group with an anti-paladin :P that would go SPLENDID lol

I'm ready to start. And I'll have healing acceptable to table 1 :D

As far as teamwork feats go I need to check them out, but Willem is very likely to be interested. Fighting is soo common..

@Kyras: I would definitely want to be a fly on the wall in that room..

Here, just finishing up the crunch.

Heh, I can see what you mean. The differences in personality between the groups are jarring and awesome.

Yeah, first, I'll definitely need to say: If Amren was fighting alongside another Halfling warrior so keen on proving on fighting as well, he would constantly be challenging him and trying to outdo him in battle. Refer to the kill counts Gimli and Legolas would keep in Lord of the Rings. Amren is the sort of warrior that would keep one with whoever he sees as a good companion. That could end up very distracting, as you mention.

I'm cool with them not being in the same group; if we get put together, all the better, but the groups look good and balanced around certain concepts as they are. Plus, if for some strange reason we ever have an interdimensional portal open up between both games and we get to have both parties see each other, both can say: "Hey! They have a halfling, too!"
