Markus the Librarian |
Markus ensures everyone is accounted for, much like books on a shelf.
Hmm... maybe that corrosive goo from our insect friends? These guys seemed happier in the last place, right? Speaking of the right... let's check right? Pavo, your keen eyes would be appreciated.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Think I'm averaging 5 on d20 across all my games!
Ramos the Herald |
Climbing down the rope into the hallway Ramos looks around surveying the area, and the oddly melted statues. "It could have been those bugs, but the last hallway we were at was trapped, so we should be on our guard."
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Sverrïr Koltǫnn |
Once Sverrir climbs down he pauses to scrutinise the pitted walls in an attempt to discern what caused the damage;
Knowledge:Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Pavo Alazario |
Before descending into the hole, Pave collects his thrown dagger and slips it back into the sheathe at his belt.
Once he reaches the floor of the room, Pavo pulls out another torch and lights it with his flint and steel. "Just in case more o' those bugs show" he comments as he holds it out and examines the hallway.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 +1 to find any traps
Markus the Librarian |
Markus is quiet, but brings three torches together and lashes them to a mace. He stands and examines the collapse for suitable wood.
Anyone else have torches? These F'ers are starting to piss me off.
3 fire damage?
Markus the Librarian |
Splitting those torches 2 and 2, might be best... more people attacking. I'm not suggesting we charge anything, my friend. But, if we look, we might be seen.
So, as they say... Fortune favors the prepared. The torches are not wasted once lit, they may be extinguished easily enough. The most careful of us, can them take a look.
My fear is, that big bug up there... might not have been big enough to take the chunks out of the statues and down hear resides the truly big bug. Paranoia, sorry.
Khyrn Lossen |
"I'm fine lighting the torches and readying the flasks of oil, then having somebody try to look around the corner without being seen. Who wants to have these?"
Khyrn hands all of his torches and flasks of oil over to other people.
He turns to Pavo, "Are you willing to try and look, or would you like me to do it?"
Pavo Alazario |
Pavo seems to shutter for a moment before whispering, "Well, I am probably the quietest among us." With that, leads with his torch, cursing his human eyes for needing light to see by as he eases into the right corridor, taking soft steps as he moves.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Using stealth to move silently down the right corridor, stopping once he sees signs of a large quantity of bugs.
GM Fanguar |
1d20 ⇒ 3
1d20 ⇒ 16
As Pavo creeps around the corner, he looks down a short corridor into another room. The north and south walls of this large chamber taper in somewhat, and in the nook of the far eastern wall rests a wide stone basin backed by a five-foot-tall shelf. A hardened orange paste spills out over the two-foot basin lip and covers much of the shelf. Tiny beetles with bright carapaces skitter and tunnel through the chalky substance and a keening insect chorus fills the room. No swarms A huge organic mass completely fills the room's southwest corner. Judging by the beetles spilling from within, it appears to be an enormous nest.
Two giant (medium sized) beetles patrol the hive and though one remains oblivious to Pavo's presence, the other detects an intruder and hisses a warning.
Sverrir: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Pavo Alazario |
Cursing under his breath, he draws his dagger and throws it at the nearest bug in hopes of scoring a telling blow before the bugs can act.
ranged attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
sneak damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
move action to draw dagger, standard action to attack Bug 1. -1 range penalty already included in attack roll. Within 30' and attacking before bug acts so bug is flat-footed.
Sverrïr Koltǫnn |
Spitting in disgust Sverrir hustles towards the bugs, putting himself in the front line of the coming combat
Presuming he can't engage the bugs right away, but will postion himself between the bugs and party if possible
Pavo Alazario |
@Pavo: extra range increments cost -2 attack. The bug is 30ft away, so that toss would be at -4 if you still want to throw.
Oops, calculated that one wrong. But Pavo will still throw the dagger, hoping that the quickness of his actions will catch the bug off-guard.
GM Fanguar |
Pavo's dagger is unable to pierce the insects tough carapace.
Sverrir moves into position to intercept the giant bugs and is rewarded by drawing the attention of the first insect to advance,
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9, managing to weave out of the way of its snapping mandibles.
@Khyrn: You wont be able to make it into attack range, do you just want to move and wait, or would you like to perform a different action?
Lucid* |
Lucid will move forward 20 then reach back and take the torch bundle from Markus. I don't need these you know... He says as he also motions for his dancing lights spell to move into the intersection.
One torch size shape will move into the first 5 feet of each passage leaving the 4-way intersection .
Markus the Librarian |
Round 1 Init 10-
Thanks, Lucid... not for light. Marcus will move until he can "reach" (within 10 feet) the bug near Sverrir.
Attack closest bug, Fauchard: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage closest bug, Fauchard: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Move 25', NE of Sverrir - attack with reach.

Round 1: Init 6
The second beetle trundles up to Sverrir, instead of biting him, it sprays a corrosive mist from a gland on its head, catching both Marcus and Sverrir in its path.
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 DC13 Ref save for half
1d4 ⇒ 2
Ramos you're up. If you can't see the map, you can't reach the bugs in one move and a single move could put you behind Marcus/next to Khyrn.
Sverrïr Koltǫnn |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Expecting worse, Sverrir manages to avoid being dowsed completely in the beetlejuice.
HP: 12/17
GM Fanguar |
Pavo Alazario |
Seeing the crowded corridor, Pavo, pulling a hidden lever in his glove, retrieves a dagger from a hidden sheath before slipping past Ramos and Markus and tumbling over the large beetle to land behind the bug before attacking the beetle with his dagger
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Using spring loaded sheath to draw dagger as a swift action. Moving 30 feet to just behind Bug 1, acrobatics check to tumble through the bug's square. Bonus for flanking not included attack roll.
Lucid* |
Lucid, holding the torchs, glances down the hallways, and assuming he sees no threat moves in behind Sverrir and targets the beetle that just bit Pavo with an acid splash.
Touch Attack: 1d30 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d3 ⇒ 2 acid damage
Lucid* |
Oh, you are not aware of the new 1d30 halfing rule? We small folk get to roll 30 siders now. :) Turns out the 3 is right beside the 2 on the keyboard. Sorry That is what I get for trying to post as I run out the door.
Touch Attack Re-roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Something in the room across from this one. the wizard calls out a calm warning, But I don't think its moving.
GM Fanguar |
Lucid's acid spell hits, everyone else misses
AC16, T10, FF16

Round 2: Init 6
Bug 2 attacks Sverrir:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
but misses.
Ramos to round out the round. There's a bottleneck situation at present, so baring a successful tumble check, you wont be able to get into melee range.
Sverrïr Koltǫnn |
Round 3
Ignoring Marcus' sound tactical advice the bullheaded dweorg launches another angry swing at the beetle facing him...
Pickaxe: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
... Critical Miss??
Pavo Alazario |
Knees shaking from that last hit, Pavo makes a desperate retreat past the bug, attempting to leap over it as he attempts to ignore the pain and retreat past his teammates. However, the bug's natural movement causes him to misjudge his leaping, meaning that Pavo isn't able to move past the bug. Looking around desperately,"Let's draw them somewhere we can use our numbers!"
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Acrobatics check to move through the beetle's square which failed, so taking standard action to fight defensively. -4 to hit +2 AC for total of 18 AC. +2 from flanking already included
