As the werebear is not aware of you at this time you can come out of hiding and attack him for a sneak attack Kayla but you wouldn't be able to move further into the room and remain unnoticed

If the baron was slain these lands would no longer be governed and a new baron would need to be selected by the queen who that is is unclear

Uncertainty leads to disruption, and since House del Arionne is currently riding high, it seems more worthwhile to stabilise the baron than hope one of my brothers could secede him. Besides, he seems weak - a strong wife would have no difficulty taking him in hand. Especially if she'd first demonstrated her power, and obligated him to her to boot.

So I think, anyway, as I charge into battle, slashing at the werebear's vulnerable back...

To be fair the rebel group just tried to break into a prison and used Hypnotic pattern to occupy the two guards atop the guard tower only to have one of them roll nat 20 on their will saves and sound the alarm. Now they are being attacked by a Strix sorceress with protection from arrows and scorching rays and magic missile

Even with a save, she gets the -4 for one round, but it doesn't matter because she missed with only the -2

As she nimbly dodges the axes, she strikes in with her mace again. Between knowing her enemy and focusing Asmodeus' wrath, it seems to be a solid hit. "Why do you persist in opposing those superior to you?"

With a flourish, Patronicus' spell would come to a finish and 1d3 ⇒ 1 rather fearsome-looking eagle would come into existence on the opposite side of the werebear from Cruor. As it forms, it starts to strike out with beak and talons that have been imbued with it's fiendish essence.

Gonna fast forward a little bit the outcome is obvious at this point.

The bear warrior exhausted poisoned and surrounded goes down after a barrage of attacks and on her side Taissa manages to bring down the sheriff. The guards and the staff manage to stop the fire although it is discovered that most of the slaves were freed during the attack.

When the battle is over the baron holds out a small cube and presses one of the faces and moves forward.

When I GM it's never automatic. I usually use sense motive against a target of 10+ (1/2 level)+Wis It's a roll triggered when something feels out of place. Ravens are curious and humans tend to drop interesting scraps.
