yeah - it is basically a scroll. Sorry - I thought Jillian was better at that for some reason.
So: CC hit a guy for 29 and he's lightly damaged? Just checking - but that makes them way tougher than I expected and calls for a withdrawal

Caleb stepped back from the onslaught, all but colliding with Tillia. As the ground opened beneath their feet he slammed the door shut, grabbed at the wizard and tensed. PAIN assailed him for a moment, and then he was behind Eirik, Tillia beside him. "I hope you have an ace up your sleeve" he panted to the wizard as the pain subsided.

5 ft back NE. Move: close door. Standard: Dimension Door. I'll invis Jillia next round if needed. Tillia - I assumed you'd want out as well?
Maybe we'll get lucky and the new Hellknight will slam through the door and fall into the pit.

Actually, 29 hit points of damage leaves that HK at medium wounds. I did this at work but I will check the spreadsheet and update for next round.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

So, Noravia is climbing and climbing and climbing. Can she also activate a judgment on the hellknights as she climbs? If so, she'll activate the healing judgment.

Yes she can because judgment is a swift action.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

As Noravia carefully climbed, she couldn't help thinking that things had gone sideways quickly. She heard Caleb cry out - or was that just in her gut or her head? That in addition to her own wounds that hurt constantly as she climbed caused her to pronounce judgment on the hellknights. She would make them pay.

Starting out with healing judgment :)

The enemy troops have HD + Wis over 17? Or did you forget to make one of them Shaken?

Anyway... skip getting free, use one boot charge and full attack the one grappling. If it dies, sink the last attacks to the one standing close by, but those hit rolls are 4 higher since Eirik wouldn't be grappled anymore.

AoO when being grappled: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26 I assume the enemy didn't have Improved Grapple?
Damage, unarmed, lethal: 1d10 + 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + (2) + 1 + 1 = 14

Ignoring the Hellknight's grapple, Eirik made good use of his enemy's close position and launched into a flurry of elbow strikes and one-inch punches, tearing into his enemy with the animal-like ferocity of hsi chosen battle style.

Flurry, unarmed: 1d20 + 17 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 17 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 26
Flurry, unarmed: 1d20 + 16 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 21 This might hit... so I'll roll for damage
Flurry, unarmed: 1d20 + 16 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 16 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 19 Another boot charge... but this will likely not hit (unless Eirik's not grappled anymore by this time) so I'll skip damage... if enemy's AC is this low, please add one more roll
Flurry, unarmed: 1d20 + 11 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 24

Damage, unarmed, lethal: 1d10 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (9) + (3) + 1 = 13

Damage, rend & bleed, lethal: 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4, 4) + (6) = 14

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Instead of being dissuaded by the two hellknights ganging up on her, Noravia gritted her teeth against the pain of fresh wounds and moved in to attack. "So this is what lawful is? To gang up on a defenseless, unarmed woman? How admirable."

Then her morningstar was instantly in her hand thanks to her new glove of storing and she bashed at the closest foe with the intent of knocking them off balance so that they'd fall into the pit to join its compatriot.

Even in the midst of fighting, Noravia could hear something coming. Once again using her bonded mind so that those she was fighting couldn't hear she reached out to the others, "Something is coming down the hallway to the north...and I could use some help."

She still has her fast healing going with her judgment.

perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35

Jillian felt a bit woozy with pain and blood loss. Her sharp ears heard the sounds of something approaching, probably through the nearest door. Taking a step back, she fished her healing potion from her belt and drank it down, sighing in relief as the worst of the bleeding slowed to a trickle. "Caleb! Your blessing didn't work!"

CMW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 = 8Is that right - do we assume lowest possible casting level for potions?

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Eirik has +21 perception so no need to add a roll to that... anywyay. 5' step to get in reach of the enemy bullying Jillian, switch to Flying Kick stance, attack the critically injured foe until it dies, then take the 60' move to get just E of Noravia (the fellow in the pit won't get an AoO) and sink the last remaining attacks on Noravia's foe.

Stepping over the bodies of his fallen foes, Eirik struck the enemy Jillian was backing away from a ringing blow to the helm, swept his feet from under him with a kick to the back of his knee and helped the Hellknight on his way down by bashing his helmeted head on the back of the barricade. As the infernal knight went down, Eirik rushed to assist the Inquisitor, skirting past the conjured pit - surely the work of Noravia or Caleb, as the sight of the trap and the hapless Hellknight on the bottom was getting quite familiar.

"Heard you needed a hand," Eirik quipped as he slammed a combination attack of palm strikes into the breastplate of the nearest enemy, denting the metal under his bare hands. "Mind if I give it to these gentlemen here instead?"

2d8+3, but still...
Caleb all but hopped from foot to foot as Noravia was overwhelmed. He looked to the more martial members of their group - and saw Jillian back away in confusion, desperately injured. "What? What?!?!" 'Did she think she was invisible? Damnit' "No! No, you just..." Caleb did something twisty and complicated with his hand, tapped the tattoo and rendered Jillian invisible. "There. You're invisible. Do something!" 'I know I should have made her practice.' griped to himself.

acrobatics: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 16 + 4 = 37
Urban grace gives a lot of bonuses, but not sure if they apply. I think the +4 from movement does though
Caleb jumped onto the top of the nearest spike wall and ran along, paralleled by Eirik. A moment later he reined himself in behind Noravia, balancing on the wobbly top of the spiked walls.

DC 15 Acro ignores the 1st die of damage and turns the second to non-lethal damage. Also, anyone ending their turn adjacent to the pit needs to make a dc 19 reflex with a +2 bonus to avoid falling into the pit.

Action 1
Tillia felt Caleb's hand grab her and then a sudden sense of disorientation as she suddenly was over behind Eirik. Deciding to try something different Tillia pulled out the wand they found not so long ago and drew on it's magic. She said the trigger word and pointed it at teh armored thug standing next to her pit. If this worked he really wasn't going to like the consequences.

I use the wand of hold person (dc 14 will negates). It will hold him for up to 5 rounds.

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if there will ever be a good time but I think that immersing myself in a make-believe world will probably help so I'll be taking up the mantle of GM again.

I'll recap and move things along soon.

Hey Fabian!

So good to see a post from you :) Whatever you feel up to doing, I'm on board for.

Melee, flurry: 1d20 + 12 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 1 + 1 = 15

Oh lordy those rolls... well, can't do much worse next round. The ony thing that *might* work is the Disarm attempt, but won't put much faith into that one either.

Wincing in pain from the relatively minor cut, Eirik focused his attention to the enemy commander as she so conveniently put herself within reach, but was forced to quick recalculate his chances as the woman easily dodged and parried his punches and kicks. The monk took a half step back, inclined his head slightly to the Hellknight as sign of his appreciation for a skilled opponent.

Jillian grinned as Caleb finally made the tattoo work right. However, before rushing to join the fight, she spent a precious few seconds studying her new enemy, getting a feel for the way she fought, and where her weaknesses were.

When she was ready, and with little need to be stealthy, she stepped forward and attacked the commander with no holds barred.

Move action - study target (for the first bloody time I remembered!). Move diagonally one step so I'm in range. Can I share that square with the spiked wall? Or are there spikes on my side too?

Sword: 1d20 + 18 + 3 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 18 + 3 - 2 + 1 = 38

The invisible sword sliced deep into the woman's buttock and hamstring, nearly crippling her. The shield bash cracked ribs, and nearly knocked her into the pit. Grinning, Jillian waited and watched, wondering if she'd fight back against this invisible threat, or if she'd keep after Eirik.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Noravia felt that any possible future with Caleb was slipping away with every heart beat that pumped her blood out of her many wounds. But she had no choice but to keep fighting for her life since any further attempt to heal herself would make herself vulnerable to further attack.

damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 5 + (1) = 14

Her healing judgment is still active :)

Her first swing connected solidly crushing the Hellknight's shoulder and leaving behind blackened flesh as if he was suffering from frostbite. As she began her backswing, pain overtook her causing her to gasp and her morningstar just glanced off of armor.

bull rush 1: 1d20 + 17 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 17 + 10 = 40
take highest = 45

Quote:

You can make a bull rush as a standard action or as part of a charge, in place of the melee attack. You can only bull rush an opponent who is no more than one size category larger than you. A bull rush attempts to push an opponent straight back without doing any harm. If you do not have the Improved Bull Rush feat, or a similar ability, initiating a bull rush provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver.

If your attack is successful, your target is pushed back 5 feet. For every 5 by which your attack exceeds your opponent’s CMD you can push the target back an additional 5 feet. You can move with the target if you wish but you must have the available movement to do so. If your attack fails, your movement ends in front of the target.

An enemy being moved by a bull rush does not provoke an attack of opportunity because of the movement unless you possess the Greater Bull Rush feat. You cannot bull rush a creature into a square that is occupied by a solid object or obstacle. If there is another creature in the way of your bull rush, you must immediately make a combat maneuver check to bull rush that creature. You take a –4 penalty on this check for each creature being pushed beyond the first. If you are successful, you can continue to push the creatures a distance equal to the lesser result. For example, if a fighter bull rushes a goblin for a total of 15 feet, but there is another goblin 5 feet behind the first, he must make another combat maneuver check against the second goblin after having pushed the first 5 feet. If his check reveals that he can push the second goblin a total of 20 feet, he can continue to push both goblins another 10 feet (since the first goblin will have moved a total of 15 feet).

follow up bull rush at -4: 1d20 + 17 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 17 + 10 - 4 = 33

result: if they have a CMD of <=33, they're both in the pit. Remember of blinded they're CMD will be lower.
not sure what happens if the first one is killed by the first ball. Might be easier just to hit him anyway rather than recalculate, but up to you.

Edit: huh, just realised. If their CMD is low enough they might actually be blown OVER the pit. Would need to beat them by 10 and 15 respectively though.

Stats

assuming it works
The Hellknight slammed back into his partner as if hit by a cart. The pair of them became - briefly - airborne, before passing over Tillia's deathtrap. A moment later screams faded as they bounced off the far wall of the pit and down onto the spikes.
"That's my fiance!" Caleb screamed at the now empty space.

Quote:
Kyrre heard her soldiers’ screams and replied back, “You will NOT succeed!”

"We shall see about that," Eirik grunted, one hand pressed against the wound across his ribs to stop the bleeding. The Hellknight officer was a fine opponent - it was almost a shame that Jillian came to his rescue and attacked the woman from behind. There were not too many opponents of the regular human kind who had given him a good challenge lately, and without pushing one's limits, how could one improve? But then again, their mission was much more important than his personal pleasure.

One arm still pressing his robe into the bleeding cut, Eirik kicked with his left leg, landing an axe-kick on the wrist of the officer's weapon hand. The bloodied blade fell from temporarily numbed fingers and the monk quickly stepped on the blade, kicking it back towards Noravia and out of the woman's reach before landing a palm-strike on the Hellknight's jaw.

Deciding that the leader needed to be disarmed if possible Tillia began casting a spell, one that would hopefully cause the hellknight to lose her grip on her weapon. As she finished the last words and the pad of butter disappeared, grease began to coat the hellknight's blade. It started above the hilt and began to slide down towards her hands, intent on getting in her grip and preventing her from using the weapon.

@Fabian: is she down? If not I shudder to think how good her hp are, and will use up something big.

Actually screw it
Stunned that the woman still drew breath, Caleb concentrated for a moment and sent five smaller balls towards her. The balls arced past his companions and impacted perfectly.

Missed that. As a backup:
Seeing that the Hellknight had already lost her blade Tillia quickly re-targeted her spell. Rather than coating the now unheld blade the ground beneath the womana's feat and the inside edges of the pit, became lined with grease causing her to wobble and start to fall to the ground.

Turn 493 – Invisible Jillian

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Game on!

Actually Caleb was right and Jillian and Eirik killed Kyrre. Sometimes, I will ask for actions or change up the initiative order but it wasn't necessary here because no other opponents remain.

Stats

Caleb ran to Noravia. "Are you alright? You need healing!" He paused a second and looked over the group "We all need healing." he said grimly. "We're going to need a minute. Jillian, if you're here can you stick the doors? More intruders'd be a killer right now."

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Sorry! Tuesday nights are busy :)

Noravia gave Caleb a very weak smile. One of her wounds gurgled as she breathed and she wheezed, "I...will be. Healing, yes." Moving slowly she retrieved the healing wand. "Everyone, form a line."

She'll use as many charges as necessary of the CSW wand to get everyone close to full health

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Quite a haul... need to start coming on these missions with a group of pack mules ;^)

From which door did Kyrre come from? Any of the doors leading further in currently open after enemies used them to get here? If so, are there immediate threats visible through them?

"Healing sounds lovely," Eirik grunted, wincing in pain. "You down there! Will you yield?” Eirik hollered down to the two knights trapped in the pit. ”If you lay down your weapons and submit, we will guarantee you your lives.”

Jillian nodded, realized nobody could see her, and said, "On it." She moved softly to the doors, keeping a sharp ear out. However, it was clear that there was nobody coming.

When the spell wore off, she joined the others, and sighed in relief as Noravia healed the worst of her damage.

"So what went wrong?" she asked Caleb, looking to where the tattoo had been. "I guess I need more practice with this kind of hoodoo to make it work."

None of that loot works for me.

Stats

Caleb shrugged "I don't know. I've never not been able to do this sort of thing. You just sort of... poke it with your soul. Easy."

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 1:

Once the grievous wounds of Noravia and the others were healed, she pulled Caleb aside and gave him a hug. "Thanks, for saving my life."

Action 2:

The fact that the Hellknights laid down their weapons was encouraging. "Will you answer some questions for us?"

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

I think we should not take a 4-hour holiday in middle of a prison break but if the two knights will answer some questions, now's the time to ask...

Tillia took her place in line when it came time to heal. She hadn't been wounded as bad as the others but she had still be hurt and the magic washing through her made her breathe a sigh of relief. She looked at her companions as they called down to the hellknights and, when they had surrendered, focused and dismissed her spell. It had to be strange for them, rising up to the floor as thought they had never fallen down as the pit dissipated. "All yours, unless you need some help with questioning them."

Action 1 "Poke it with your soul" is I think maybe the best line of this game since I joined. :) Also, do I still have the tattoo? I assumed it was a one-off, but it's still in my consumables.

"Poke it with my whatnow?" Jillian stared at the tattoo (/where the tattoo had been), then stared at Caleb. Whom promptly received a big hug from his intended. Ooooh kaaay now. Can't deny the skills of those two, but they are gonna have some CRAZY offspring!

As the others began questioning the captive knights, Jillian listened carefully at the door adjacent to where the captain had come from. Hearing nothing, she edged it open.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

I also very much enjoyed the phrase 'poke it with your sole.' :) I just never reacted because it was directed at Jillian.

Action 2:

Noravia resisted the urge to finish off the Hellknights. They had called Milani useless and herself a b&#~@ but if they could be turned and used then it would be better than having to waste resources and energy fighting them.

Her eyes narrowed. "I would like to do this the pleasant way. Are there more of your Order in the prison? What other obstacles do we have to face? Did you know we were coming?"

Possibly more questions based on their answers and how cooperative they are...

When they had gotten all the information out of the Hellknights they could Noravia asked, "What will you two do now? How dedicated are you to your current employer?"

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

"What about the First Warden? Where is he stationed to? What about the prisoners? We are looking for one person in particular, perhaps you can point us the right way" Eirik added his own questions into the mix, hoping the two knights would not recall their vows now that they had decided to comply.

Once the 20 questions is done, Eirik will knock both guards out so they won't interfere in the mission... after that, where to go might well be influenced by the answers, but if not, then the door to the right (the one leading to the small office SE) looks promising - one room, then what I take as cells beyond that. Should be quick to examine.

@Jillian: I cast the spell rather than use the tattoo. Sorry - didn't realise how hard it would be to use.

Caleb pouted as the Hellknights proved reasonable.

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Action 3

Quote:
“That is a sacred shrine to our Lord Father Asmodeus. You do not need to go there. I’ll take you to the room with the records if you wish.”

"Very kind of you, but I fear we'll have to see for ourselves. I appreciate your cooperation, but if you put yourself in our place I'm sure you'll agree that everything a captive says can't be taken without verification," Eirik said seriously. "Noravia, if he is speaking the truth, would you mind peeking in?" the monk asked, recalling all too well what had happened in the Hall of Records when they dealt with Asmodeus' blessings.

If there's some religious mumbo jumbo over there, perhaps Noravia can trick it again? Who knows, the guard might well try to steer us into harm-s way even if they appear cooperative.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 2:

Hellknights wrote:
“We’ll leave town. I suspect that the legality of having replaced the local hellknight order may be flawed. We want no further part in this.”

Noravia couldn't believe she was about to suggest what she was but they could always use trained fighters. "There is a different Hellknight order within the city that could use your help if you wanted to stay rather than leave. It would involve changing your allegiance but it would give you purpose. However, if you still choose to leave then we won't stop you - but we would make sure you leave town."

The inquisitor asked again to make sure of what they had told them. "So the only obstacles within the prison that we still have to deal with are the animated suits of armor and the First Warden? How many suits of armor? No other traps or resistances that we need to be aware of?"

Action 3:

Eirik wrote:
Noravia, if he is speaking the truth, would you mind peeking in?"

For not the first time, Noravia was grateful to Milani for granting her the ability to infiltrate opposing faiths by masking her true nature. The inquisitor nodded and moved towards the door.

She took a breath and warned the others to be on guard for whatever may happen when she opened the door. "Be ready."

But we shouldn't split the party too much. This can wait because didn't Jillian already go to check on where the Commander came from? We shouldn't all scatter to check out different rooms.

I had posted last turn that Jillian had listened at that door and cracked it open - but it was missed in the turn recap. It still stands - she'll listen, then open it. Regardless of what the knights say.

Turn 496 – Don’t Go There

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Game on!

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 1:

Noravia had no desire to enter the room and possibly disturb the armor further. She took in everything she could with her eyes before firmly closing the door again.

perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
Is there anything worth going into the room for?

She then warned the others, "There are four suits of animated armor in there." Then she asked the Hellknights, "Will they leave the room or stay put?"

Hellknight wrote:
You do not need to go there. I’ll take you to the room with the records if you wish.”

"It would seem the records room would be the best place to start. It will probably be faster if you lead the way, since you offered."

Noravia will vote for trying to find our prisoner quickly, ie finding the records room, and then moving to the basement to find the 'unofficial' prisoner.
