GM Tribute |
With the obscuring mist, it is impossible to see more than ten feet. No one has seen where the boulders are coming from, but it is probably somewhat high up as they are striking quite hard. You assume, and William can verify, the bridges are secured to metal loops at the same level as you are on his side the same way on the side you are on. It is a simple bridge with two single tie points at each end.
Skirros tries to quickly cross the bridge and starts to wobble and cannot keep balanced. Reflex save for Skirros
Talon ties himself to the ropes that are twisting, but has enough stability to get off a shot, but with William completely out of sight fighting on the ledge, it could be dangerous.
The two chained lizards are fighting William and he is fighting to hold his five by five patch to maneuver. The two lizards bite at him and their nasty jaws fail to close on the skilled warrior.
bite 1/bite2: 1d20 ⇒ 31d20 ⇒ 8
The cascade of boulders continues and they bounce off the swinging ropes as they tumble to the chasm below.
rope damage: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 5, 3, 5) = 24
Milhar sees ropes taking damage from the boulders and strain, the large multistranded ropes are beginning to fray. One of the four has less than half the strands holding it together.
Party to go
Skirros the Savage |
Seeing the bridge on the verge of collapsing, Skirros orders BouzzTwo across as well. "Come on, crocodile, move across. Careful of the bridge!" She herself tries to stabilize herself on the crossing.
BouzzTwo will move across Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Reflex save for Skirros: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
William Allenin |
I will try to push them back to make room! There are two lizards up here on in front and one to my left! With that William attacks the lizard to his left.
Scimitar, Two Weapon Fighting: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 161d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Shield Spike, Two Weapon Fighting: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The vapor obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. So it is five feet.
The 1400 pound crocodile moves onto the bridge and the strain on the ropes is obvious. Skirros manages to hold and avoid falling, but cannot make any progress although the crocodile manages to make it almost halfway across.
Bikmalu |
From somewhere in the mists, you hear a bird screeching in an almost human voice. Bikmalu beats his wings furiously as he dodges around the nearby lizard, attempting a spell to burn it and make room for his allies.
Casting flaming sphere defensively (DC 19) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
From out of the mists, a flaming ball drops onto one of the lizards, rolling around toward its tough hide.
DC 17 Reflex save or take 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) = 16 fire damage
Vardlon |
Vardlon, still not sure this is a good idea at all, but with no better specific idea, will go along with the group and try to hurry across the bridge when his turn comes.
Edit: Not hurrying so much that he jumps onto an already-overloaded fraying bridge.
GM Tribute |
reflex lizard: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Bikmalu burns the already injured large lizard badly with fiery ball. He growls in anger and pain. Blood and charred flesh coat the green creature. William is unable to penetrate the hide of the apex predators with scimitar or shield. Sandrion moves nimbly across the bridge getting almost halfway across.
Vardlon moves onto the swaying bridge at a very cautious speed and gets fifteen feet onto the bridge. No acrobatics roll, so moving at half speed.
More boulders are falling onto the bridge. hit: 3d20 ⇒ (14, 1, 15) = 30
Two strike the holding ropes and cut two of them on one side completely off.
GM Tribute |
conceal vs Bikmalu: 1d100 ⇒ 84
conceal vs Will: 1d100 ⇒ 69
damage vs Bikmalu: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 1) + 5 = 10
damage vs Will: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 = 9
confirm Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Shrugging off nasty bites, the fighter and druid continue to battle the large lizards. The bridge sways even more crazily with the ropes the left of the far side completely severed.
Acrobatics check DC15 to move fast on bridge
It is amazing the bridge has held up to such punishment and weight on it.
Party up
William Allenin |
With the others coming up behind Willism will push the lizard back once more to make more room. Provoking an AoO from the target lizard.
Bullrush: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
If the combat maneuver work he will take a 5 foot step following the lizard to make room behind for someone to join him.
Talon Shadowblade |
OK not sure here but how exactly are people passing talon on the bridge? (or I should say the ropes)
also is anyone left behind? is there any point to Talon's tether rope? is it secure to something?
I originally thought Talon went out in front but now therre is only rope left and somehow people can get past? must not be that bad off then
will post once I know the answers (or most of them, also assume that talon will go completely across before it fails. just in cast he bridge fails before it is answered
EDIT never mind all that the bridge must be just fine with everyone on the other side practically. assuming no checks are needed then
Talon crosses the bridge....draws his sword and puts away the bow.
Sandrion Delcour |
Sandrion holsters his bow and prepares to move across the last part of the bridge once an opening has presented itself.
Move Holster Bow.
Move: Ready action to move across the bridge once a square has opened up. Draw rapier as part of move.
Acrobatics (if needed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
GM Tribute |
With the last twenty feet of planking destroyed and two frayed ropes on a single side (one that previously held the planking and one as a crude hand rail) there is no bridge there. Talon can let people pass him in the five foot wide bridge, but it will take an acrobatics or climb roll to go the last twenty feet. I do not think a 1400# crocodile will be using a single rope to get across.
The last twenty feet of the bridge is spanned by two ropes that are straining under Milhar's weight. Others consider crossing on them to try to get to the other side. Williams attempt to push back the large tethered lizard is unsuccessful.
Milhar Korashi |
Acrobatics check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19, climb check is in the last post.
Milhar scoots along the rope towards William and then flick flacks over onto the wall to the left, and starts climbing.
"Bikmalu, if that fire is your doing, the stones must stop."
Bikmalu |
Bikmalu only got you because he's flying Talon :)
"Let me finish the lizard and I'll see if I can find them Milhar." Bikmalu rolls the ball back into the lizard.
Move action to keep the flaming sphere on the lizard
DC 17 Reflex save or take 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) = 8 fire damage
Move action to fly up to see if Bikmalu can spot what is rolling the boulders.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Skirros the Savage |
Realizing that the bridge won't hold the crocodile's weights, Skirros orders BouzzTwo back to the far side of the trench. "We'll get you later, buddy. Be safe!" She herself then struggles to make it to the far side of the bridge. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
GM Tribute |
Will attempts to clear some room, but the big lizards are too hard to move.
lizard: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d100 ⇒ 11
Trying to push a lizard draws Will a bite that misses in the fog. Bouzz moves back just as the bridge collapses and all the ropes fray and break. As the bridge that is left swings to the side you started on, it rips the ropes and rings completely.
Talon grabs the ropes as the planks and much of the center ropes come undone and plummet hundreds of feet below.
Those making a REF DC10 save are hanging onto the two ropes on the far side below the lizards.
lizard: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d100 ⇒ 70
lizard: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d100 ⇒ 26
Will easily dodges the clumsy bites of the lizards.
Sandrion Delcour |
Reflex save DC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Climb check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Sandrion lets out a yell as the bridge collapses, but manages to grab the rope hanging down from the cliff edge. Breathing rapidly, he takes stock of the situation seeing if any other party members need assistance climbing up to the top. If no one needs help, he will climb up after Talon.
William Allenin |
Ahhhh that is what the colors mean. In that case back to the grind stone.
William will attack the wounded lizard.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 161d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Vardlon |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Vardlon falls to the jagged rocks below. Probably.
Now I roll a 20.
Vardlon, pretty much lost in a fog both literal and figurative, climbs up from the broken bridge. I'm not sure if anyone's even told him what we're up against; he certainly hasn't seen anything. If he sees a big lizard that the party is whomping on, and has a free hand, he'll cast a magic missile spell at it.

RECAP
The party sent Talon across to explore. After rocks were rolled and down and two large lizards guarded the far side, the rest of the group began to move across. Wil rushed across and managed to push a lizard back and engaged two lizards in a fight while the others trailed behind. After the rocks continued to rain down and the party rushed to cross the bridge, the bridge fell into the chasm leaving much of the party clinging to a single frayed rope on the other side.
Will cannot see ahead much, but with a single rope rising to a ledge fully occupies by Will and two lizards, the rope climbers will have to wait for the flying druid and fighter to clear some space to get up.
Skirros the Savage |
I'm unsure what Reflex save you are referring to, GM.
"I can't see anything in this damn fog! My bow is useless! Skirros grits her teeth and drops her longbow, drawing her shield from her back and her scimitar as she advances toward the nearest lizard. Draw shield and sword with two move actions; 5' step.
GM Tribute |
The burning sphere finally brings the lizard down and he collapse to the ground. Not dead, he is in bad shape.
From behind the lizard in the cave, a high pitched voice speaks.
"You are killing my guards!! I desire to keep my location and people protected. Perhaps we can avoid further bloodshed?"
The lizard stops and looks warily at Will. It appears there is a break in the fighting for parley. Through the mist Will can hear the sound of more creatures like were in the vines.
Sandrion Delcour |
Sandrion could not hardly believe the good fortune after hearing the strange voice wishing to parlay.
He has us on the ropes...literally and now he wishes to talk...Thank Erastil!
"Yes...yes we do not wish you any harm. All we want is safe passage through your territory and we shall trouble you no longer!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 19
GM Tribute |
Reflex Skirros: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Having barely held on, the group waits for the high pitched voice to reply.
"Those of you placing your weapons and packs on the ground can come back with me. If you have a REASONABLE cause to be here, I am sure we can work this out. We do not typically accept visitors."
He adds: "The only way to get out of my territory is to turn around. This IS my territory. Why are you here?"
