Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Depending on how Triela reacts combat may be imminent. Depending on what other PCs are seen NPCs may attack so I've went ahead and rolled init. For now though we are still out of combat. Everyone is welcome to take actions accordingly if they haven't already.

Initiative rolls:

  • Aak:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
  • Caylen:1d20 ⇒ 9
  • Rema:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
  • Silx:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
  • Triela:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Silx:
You're about 40 feet away from the two of them (25 pass the side of the mob and 15 feet around the rear of the mob).

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

DM:
Blah, just out of range of sneak attack. Is there any noticeable cover within 30 feet of them?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Silx:
The temple shadow only runs to the left and right of you. The two figures are standing in the middle of the path behind the mob. There are some trees and brush around the path that could offer cover. The tree line ends near the temple, which is about twenty feet to your right.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

DM:
I'll wait until there's some sort of distraction or at least the fighter type guy is no longer paying attention.

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

Writing a post, might take a moment. Wordy.

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

Half-awake and hair disheveled, carrying the staff Shayne had left behind in his passing, Caylen stumbles out of the temple bleary-eyed and unprepared for the disappointing show of ignorance before her. Still reeling from the departure of Shayne and the events of the last few days, the young woman's patience is drawn wholly thin. But were it just frightened, ignorant villagers that made these cries she may have been able to let Triela speak her words and cow the masses with diplomacy. But it isn't, they are in the crowd, inciting the riots, being the match that thinks it is the flame.

Rage swells in Caylen's heart and the blackened flesh on her forearms and hands begins to smolder. Coming down the steps, Caylen passes by Triela and lays a hand on the bard's shoulder, her eyes never leaving the riotous crowd. The gesture is not one of support, but dismissal. Your words won't work here, the firm touch implies. Whether or not Caylen is correct has little to do with how much she believes she is right.

Coming down the stairs, Caylen speaks words in sibilant litany. The greenish metal of the staff begins to glow brightly, shedding a vibrant light out from its cresting-wave shaped head. "LIES!" Caylen screams as she raises the staff in one hand. "You speak of flame as if you know it! You speak of purity as if you are it!"

Between her sentences, Caylen utters another verse of sibilant words in the tongue of angels, the call of celestial tongues causing what was once merely light on her staff to erupt into burning flame that erupts from the fissures in her skin and wreathes the staff's radiant end. "Time and again you have come to disrupt our work, you dispicable shadows of flame are no more than smoke and ashes!"

As the nears the crowd, Caylen's entire body emits rippling heat waves, her hair tossed on thermal winds only she can feel and tongues of smoke thread themselves out fo the exposed flesh between the blackened strips of charred skin. "Does the match believe itself the flame in the face of the Inferno!" With those last words, Caylen's entire body explodes into the same fiery light her allies have seen time and again before, that Triela saw the previous night.

Caylen is a shimmering form of pure white flame that sheds her own light as bright as the staff, flames roar off of the staff's raised haft and her body is painfully bright to look at. Her voice, hollow and echoing sounds as though it is called from somewhere else. "In the name of this sacred place you defile and the pain you cause, you will cast down your weapons and seek forgiveness for your ignorance!"

It isn't Caylen speaking anymore, it isn't her mannerisms or her kindness. Like in the past when enraged, it is something otherworldly and beyond the young girl that channels it. Something else informs her words, something full of wrath and indignation at the sight of this cruelty.

"Cast aside your hatred, or be shown what purifying flames truly are!"

____________
First up. LOTS OF ROLLS.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 (can she see if the instigators are familiar?/Looking for Silx)
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 (assessing the mob, trying to determine how strongly they believe this stuff that's being spewed. Are they loyal cultists or just gullable townsfolk, etc.)
Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 (how hurt are the injured people? If there are serious injuries I will probably channel positive energy next round.)
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 (is Angraad worshipped in this region? Not sure if we learned that at the temple, if so that'll affect what Caylen says next.)
Lastly, and I'm not sure if this is right or not, but I'm trying to convey a duality of carrot/stick with the villagers. Peace and comfort if they put down their weapons, fiery doom if they don't. The Diplomacy check (which is in aid of Triela's) is meant to reinforce those who already see them in a favorable light or are willing to turn to their side. The intimidate is meant to frighten the flame cultists, mostly, or scare off the townsfolk who have been indoctrinated by them. Again, nto sure if I can do that, but if I have to take one or the other I'll go with the untrained intimidate.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Caylen is moving down the steps of the temple toward the crowd during her speech. She is casting light, then sun metal on the staff, then activating energy body.

That should catch her up to everyone else in terms of number of actions/time.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Caylen:
You notice Silx making his way around the mob, but just as one of the men in the rear of the mob seems to notice the drow he slips into the shadows surrounding the temple. You don't seem him after that. As you try to gauge the mob's intent you quickly realize that the crowd is but a shadowy illusion. The six villagers engaging the orcs are real and halt their mostly ineffective attacks against the orcs as your word's give them pause. Though Angraad is worshipped by some in he area, it is typically a god honored by dwarves - not human.

The man in the rear sneers, "Yet another youth that I must educate. It will be a pleasure to let our flames mingle. I do hope you survive to see the night." With a nod from the speaker the man next to him begins to move adeptly through the mob, brandishing a great sword and yelling "Kill the swine.".

The villager near Peter (the young man Triela noticed defending the female half-orc) attacks the young man.

Round One: Triela now acting. All others awaiting NPC action. (Triela and Caylen are about 30 feet from the orcs who are in front of the mob.)

Caylen calls out, her hollow voice echoing back to her companions. "The crowd is a trick -- a shadow, an illusion! There are but six villagers!" Raising her fiery staff into the air, Caylen gestures to the man who spoke the word swine.

"Him," Caylen directs, hoping Silx is within range to target the ringleader.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Bahaha I feel like a professional assassin. He is your target, you know what to do. Too busy right now to post anything substantial, check back in a few hours.

Triela casts haunted fey aspect, "Then face the wrath of house Devilbane!" and moves towrds the villiager near Peter, will get either behind her or in flanking if possible.

wow, lots of posts. Given that Triela is in a position to have heard about troubles that plague the local lands in court or from her mother, what has he heard of these cultists, if anything?

Silx is surprised at the trick. Sharp eyes Caylen... He starts making his way over to the man Caylen pointed out.

Female Samsaran Monk

Awesome stuff all. Going to do Rema's entry and then I want to give Aak some time to catch up before we continue with combat.

Rema looks on in awe as The Valiant fades away. "The dreams are true. she whispers to herself. Before she can say more the eagle warns of the battle above. Looking around in confusion Rema follows behind Caylen.

Outside Rema quietly gathers herself at the temple steps as it becomes clear that peace will not prevail.

Triela:
You've heard rumor of cultists gathering in the rural areas, but there has been little proof of their presence among port city. Apparently the rumors were true.

Aak will rest, both his mind and body. The words of the ghost ring in his head you will need your strength. Those words turn over in his mind, until he finally falls to sleep.

When he wakes the next day, he sits and meditates to gain his spells, something he is accustomed to at this point. He asks his deity for guidance to know when to fight and when to talk, help to defend against any hostilities that may come up and last but not least the strength to overcome any obstacle that may present itself.

Aak will focus his mind, using the teaching given to him by the wise old monk at the temple, to become more fierce should the time arise (bonus to intimidate).

He is snapped out of his trance when the newcomer, Triela says that there is a battle, happening up above them on the grounds of the temple. Aak will gather his weapons and don his armor. He then heads upstairs, out the temple door and stands, SHOCKED at what is before him.

He stands there, frozen in the display of aggression before him. He instantly wonders what has provoked the villagers to create a mob and attack the temple. He understands that Humans view his kind and less than pleasurable, but this is madness.

He looks around, to see if he can pick out anyone in particular, and if the female half-orc is the one from the monk sanctuary.

percception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Upon hearing the words of the man in back, Aak visibly is pissed off. He thinks back to the man who burned down the little watering hole, which started all of this in motion as it were. Aak makes some motions, and asks for greater defense to battle those he may go against.

when Aak turn is up, cast shield of faith +2 of self

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Triela is easily able to get into a flanking position near the villager that has just attacked Peter.

Silx:
(On your upcoming turn.) Although you now know the mob is an illusion, you find that the magic seems to have enough substance to slow you dow. You can easily move around the mob like image. Either way it will take a double move to get in range of the cultist (a single move would let you attack the warrior who is making his way though the mob surprisingly quickly). You are able to stay out of sight either way.

The figure in the rear that Caylen has identified holds a scroll aloft, "Where there are flames there is smoke." A mist surrounds him (20 ft. radius).

I started by casting the spell, haunted fey aspect so I used my actions

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

That's right. I wanted to look up the spell then forgot. I'll get the spell effects in here.

As Triela engages the villagers look in her direction and then back to Caylen. As some of them begin to back away the warrior making his way through the mob yells, "If you run I will kill you." The villagers stay where they are, but they are no longer fighting the orcs.

Between Caylen's intimidate roll and the spectacle of the haunted fey aspect the villagers are considered shaken.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

I will spend my turns stealthing over, tell me how long till I'm in position

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Heading over to the one that just was surrounded by mist or the one charging through the mob? (one turn either way, but with the one in the mob it's a single rather than a double move.)

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

The target that Caylen marked. Caylen has marked him for death, and so it shall be...muahahahaha

Female Samsaran Monk

Silx:
As you reach the target you realize that he has not remained where he was. He must be someplace inside the mist that he has created.

Aak:
As you survey the surrounding area you notice a warrior moving through the mob, greatsword in hand. Though he has managed to keep the villagers from fleeing, the orcs clearly have the upper hand. Meanwhile the figure in the rear is hidden by the mist he has created. The harpy and eagle remain locked in arial combat.

Rema quickly positions herself to help reinforce the orcs, beseeching the orcs to show mercy. "Show these few mercy and you may make allies of enemies."

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

How injured are the villagers/orcs, if at all?

Female Samsaran Monk

The villagers have not been harmed. The orcs have taken 1d3 ⇒ 2 non-lethal damage each.

The orcs stand a bit taller. The villagers seem full of doubt. They glance with fear toward the warrior engaged with Aak before turning their eyes toward Caylen.

Caylen:
You glance a shimmer of hope in at least of few of the villager's eyes as they look back towards you.

Silx:
You can here the shifting of feet at the far side of the mist, just beyond your reach (just further than you can move this round).

The group of villagers shifts a bit. The one nearest Rema steps back, while the a few others (2) attempt to attack the orcs near them (1d20 ⇒ 18, Dmg (non-lethal): 1d6 ⇒ 6; 1d20 ⇒ 11). Here's a basic map. Does that help or do we need a detailed battle map? Ignore the part that says NPCs (I just reused an old map). The bit that says "Aak" is where Aak and the warrior are engaged. Silx is near the mist, Rema and Triela are near the orcs. Caylen is near the temple steps. Does that sound about right?

Female Samsaran Monk

Seeing that many of the villagers are to fearful to attack, Rema moves to help Triela and Peter with the villager that is attacking.

After moving into a flanking position, Rema attempts another stunning fist attack (1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 2 = 15, Dmg (non-lethal: 1d6 ⇒ 5). Although the villager shakes off the stun, the punch nearly knocks them out.
