Desidera Tahn
Desidera had been looking around at the landscape, and more importantly, the insects. Kest's declaration of them not being where they expected to be was not a surprise, since she expected a bit more "sand" or something similar if this was Sandpoint. So while the others were debating methods, she was getting a sense of the plants. She shifted her pack a bit, removing it from her shoulders to sit on the ground while they debated. She was carrying a lot of equipment. "Whichever way we will be going, we will be heading towards the nearest settlement--"
The thought occurred to her that the nearest settlement might be a ways away, and she addressed the remainder of the statement to Kest. "--where is the nearest settlement, by the way?"
Aodhiel
"Perhaps we were too trusting of the librarian," I sigh, clapping Paladin McLyntier on the back. "Not to worry, I too was taken in. Or perhaps he was just misinformed." I brighten. "Or perhaps Ragathiel has hastened our steps to where we need to be."
Kest Far Walker
"We could head back to Sandpoint, since our contact won't be much further yet, but we might miss her in the wilderness. We could head north, but we don't know her ultimate destination. No real good options." Kest dismounts and makes sure his horse is feeling no ill effects from the journey.
Do I know the nearest settlement?

Kayla tries to survey the land she has found herself in (with the others).
We were not prepared for a long trek in the wilderness, our supplies will dwindle quickly, we should locate a settlement first, it is possible we have gained some distance ahead of our target.
She tries to survey the land for possible trails or trade routes.

Chuckling softly to herself at the debate that was going on, Desidera let them continue to debate as she gauged the nearest tree for climbing. Unless Kest recalled what the nearest settlement was, they were going to have to discover for themselves. "Kest, you're a little familiar with the area, aren't you? What are the main hazards in this place?" Whether or not they would be able to head towards Sandpoint in the future was not really relevant until they could get out of this place.
For now, she was going to try to climb this tree to see if she could see anything.

"I'm not convinced. Our feet must not turn back upon our divine journey. Ragathiel guides our steps, Ragathiel will provide," I pause. "For those who provide for themselves. Does any one of you have the knowledge and skill to survive in the wilderness?"
DM Ashman
Kest knows that the most direct route to the nearest settlement lies in the west. The Brinwall is about 40 miles and you must accend about 1200 feet worth of mountains to get to there. The wild insects at the moment are still going about their business as the day passes there is constant shriek of a creature that seems to be huninting from the sounds of it.
Desidera Tahn
With a grin on her face, Desidera looked down from one of the branches of the tree that she had managed to climb. The bark was a bit different from the trees that she was used to climbing, but it was not so different that it was difficult. "Uncle, did you conveniently forget who it was that kept us in food when those raccoons made away with our sack of rations two days out of Longsdale?"
Teasing, she said nothing more, but started back down, having seen what she felt was enough of the area to start to get a handle on things. Still smirking at Aodhiel, she dusted her hands off and picked up her pack, the clanking of the iron pot against her sword a bit loud. "I don't think that we have to worry about raccoons this time." Given the size of the insects, she was more concerned about the things that might view them as food.

The group begins to make its way out the area they are in. Right now the group is a valley with that appears to have a path leading West. You may follow it or chose another route. The insects seem to be buzzing about and the screeching noise seems to be getting closer. Also the noise is comming from the West.
Options
Option 1
You may chose to travel down the path to Brinwall.
Option 2
You may decide to move in another direction.
Combat will have to be theater of the mind should you choose to do that.
Aodhiel
"Um... hide," I murmur, ducking into the underbrush besides the path. "If they're evildoers, we can attack from ambush - but we should not needlessly slay a mere animal, following its natural instincts."
Stealth 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (1) - 4 = -3
Or, if we have a few minutes till the creature arrives, I will take twenty on this. Or perhaps someone with more skill in stealth can assist the rest of the group?

Kayla takes measure of the direction they need to travel.
looking to Aodhiel, My lord, that trail should lead us to a place called brinewall, I will scout ahead.

Kayla moves in a ziz fashion moving at increadible speed. As she moves she leaves no trace of her passing. After sometime she hears the screech once more. Using her skills she climbes a tree to see where the noise is coming from. Before in the sky as it is turning dark is a large mobat. This bat has a wingspan the length of two humans, over-sized ears, and a squat, upturned snout with rows of needle-like teeth. It is flying and eating up the oversized insects that are flying. Kalya notices it that uses a screesh to stun its meal. Kayla is able to see this just outside of its range of screech.
Kayla - Black scorpion
Kayla watches the creature just long enough to ensure it is not going to pose a threat to her or the group. If it seems to turn toward her or the group kayla quickly scrambles back to the group.
will make a report depending on what the crature does next.
of course it would be cool to leap on the creature's back and tame it so she can ride it at her flying mount..
DM Ashman
The bat lets out another screech at huge manits. The manits is 15 tall and the for paws or claws are 6 feet in lenght. The bat then engages in battle with its dinner. Kayala stays long enough to see the bat start to get the upper hand. She notices the bat's screech seems to stun prey. That comes within 10 to 20 feet of it. Kayla then rushes back to group as she does she notices the other insects seem to be moving away from area.
Kayla - Black scorpion
Kayla approaches putting a finger to her lips indicating to be a little more silent.
she is quickly at Aodhiel's side. She sighs at the "lady gnome" comment to address her. it is clear that this title seems to upset her a bit. she quickly pushes that feeling aside to give her report.
My lord, ahead a large group of insects, many bigger that you. but they are moving away. there will be several dead ones. there was a giant bat like creature even larger than the insects. it would let out a screech to stun the insects then feed upon them. it continues to chase the bugs away. I would guess the path to be clear on its own within the hour.
Kayla - Black scorpion
As the amateur rogues attempt to slip into the brush Kayla contemplates her choices once more. the caves are not the best choice and definitely don't need to be engaging the big bat creature.
Kayla slip into the brush opposite of the others.

It figured that she would turn to look for nearly everyone and find them vanishing. That was the one thing that she did not figure out how to do quite well.. Doing the best she could, she tried to find cover near something that looked like it could hide her. Since fights with the local wildlife were something that they wanted to avoid if at all necessary, she was going to have to be on the lookout for other methods of driving them away.. After they avoided a fight with a huge bat.

As the group is hiding in the woods. The Mobat flys by and attempts to find prey since the area is empty. for the record I was under the impression the bat was chasing the big bugs and heading a different direction, otherwise I would have given a much better warning... so its not my fault

She was not going to try to kill the bat outright.. It was not like it was actively trying to hunt them. "Try not to kill it, please?", she asked of the others. To that end, she swung with her staff, the attack a bit difficult, since she was not trying to kill it outright.
