Agreed. If we have the book there's no reason to keep fighting.
Kest backs up a bit and prepares to cover his retreating allies.
I'll move 30 feet away from the fog and prepare an attack if an ape pursues my allies.

With herself and Kayla nearby, Desidera was able to chuckle to herself, promising that she and her uncle would take lessons on hiding from Kayla as soon as they got the chance. In this situation she was heartened by the fact that if they were detected, no one would be standing alone in the melee. She withdrew with her uncle, curious about what the apes would do now that Ntanga was gone. Would they retreat through the portal? Was Ntanga what was keeping the group together?
DM Ashman
A strange magic can be felt as the group tries to move off. Kest can see that the portal has a strange green light coming from its surface is moving towards the center of the mist. The light touches what sounds like to be apes there is a loud sound of hissing. Then the death throes of the apes as they die. The group inside the mist as they try be stealthy here the apes dies and the sweet smell of flowers is now in the air. Aod and the group the at is with him can see a green light moving towards them.
Now what?

Kayla turns and grabs Aod and tries to pull him the other way, My lord we need to go this way, come-on

Keeping pace with her uncle, she noticed his difficulty in retreating. Desidera wondered what the effect was that affected the apes that way, trying to identify whatever it was that the portal was doing. While she was no magical scholar, magic was something that was a hobby of hers. There were so many curious things that could be done with magic, and understanding how they worked was key to understanding how to stop them.

As Aod tries to stop and with Kayla help. You manage to pause for second. Then the force that pulls on you increase significally. You also realize you can't let go.
The book is trying to pull into the portal.
Desidera Tahn
There were two choices. Continue to fight the pull, which-- given the source-- was not very possible, or go after the source. "Dismiss the spell, uncle!" The others would hopefully give her uncle a hand, she hoped that this would work-- and not hurt too much. Her greatsword was lifted, and she roared, a sound full of a deep fury and defiance. Desidera's steps became purposeful, as she made for the exit of the cave, the portal her goal.
Once there she raised the sword, her target being not the portal itself, but the arch that defined it. Most long-term portals could not exist without a framework, and she hoped that this would end the magic.
The sword rose.
The sword fell.

Sunder attempt on the statue/arch(?) that frames the portal. Hopefully, no anchor, no portal.

As Desidera sword hits the anchor, the portal swooshes in a 120 foot by 280 vortex. Grabbing everyone in the group. Each of you are flung into the aiudara. Everything goes black...
When each of you awake you find yourself in a jungle. The aiudara stands behind you and the portal is no longer active. The air is steamy and humid. In the distance an animal you have never heard makes a sound. You are each approx. 25 feet from the portal. The Ape bodies are also with you but they are dead. The Tome is still in the hand of Aod. It appears to be silent for now. It appears to be just a little after sunrise. Everyone is here and so is the gear you are wearing.
A strange woman comes from the jungle. Tall and
lithe, the creatures appear to be perfect specimens of elven or human woman. Each of you notice she has a thin and twitching antennae that rise up from her foreheads. She is dressed in simple black leather dress that appears to be less on her. Her cleavage is very noticeable by the men in the group. The dress splits up her creamy thighs. She armed with axe strapped to her back. She is extremely beautiful and she looks at you.
Then she speaks to group.
YXrTu She appears to ask a question.
Kest Far Walker
That was strange, but this was not the time to worry about strange. Kest lost an arrow when he was pulled into the gate. He draws a knocks another arrow while he jumps to his feet, looking around the new area. The woman has a weapon but isn't wielding it, so he doesn't threaten her, but he does watch her while his companions gather themselves.
Desidera Tahn
Desidera's greatsword was forgotten as she pushed herself off of the ground with a groan. "Figured. Just what I didn't want to happen." It took a second as she checked herself over for injuries, then looked up to notice the woman. Well, they certainly were not where they were anymore...
Catching the gist of her motion, even if the query was not understood, she nodded, gesturing to the portal, then all of them. The expression on her face was that of uncertain, though. She had a guess as to who that portal belonged to.
