Sorry, busy weekend with work, playing catchup for deadlines.
Shards rolls to his feet..er, paws.
'What the heck!? Oh no Sana! and as he takes a step he stops and turns to everyone "The floor's boobytrapped!"
Antikas Fenrith
|
Antikas, giving up on the bow and instead pulls out a cool looking wand and points it at the skeleton and a burst of energy takes flight from the end and flies towards the skeleton. Anyone looking at the energy notices it looks like a bee made of light that flies towards the skeleton to sting him.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Antikas Fenrith
|
Oh crap, really? Do I have to roll it for every time that I use it or just until the first time then i can always use it? Do I need a feat or something to overcome this wand problem?"
Use magic device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Oh balls!
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
Antikas gets out a wand and attempts to use it, but can't quite get it to work.
Trutzburg double moves up to the skeleton. Though, you moved into the cage. I moved you to the next closest spot outside the cage adjacent to the skeleton. The red dots on the ground are the fallen cage.
Hadgar readies his kinetic cover.
Qildar and Sana are up.
Qildar
|
Qildar starts to walk into the room to explain what he knows about the spider when the trap is sprung and the cage falls.
"What the ..."
Reacting quickly, he draws upon his new knowledge. Saying a few words, a ray of light flys from his hand towards the skeleton.
Disrupt Undead (touch attack): 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 4 - 4 = 5 Assuming cover and into combat.
Damage+sneak attack: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (2) = 3 Assuming flat footed.
Casting a spell for the first time in combat, the ray sails over everyone's heads.
"Seemed so much easier at the training grounds," he says slightly embarrassed.
That was rather anti-climactic. So much for that surprise ability. :( Hopefully it will work better when I'm out in front and don't have penalties.
Sana Salvas
|
Sana pulls out her morning star and tries to strike the skeleton.
Fighting Defensively, AC=20, HP=9. Please tell me what the skeleton is wearing, and what weapon it has
Attack: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 1 - 4 = 161d8 ⇒ 1
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
Qildar uses his new-found power, but the ray of positive energy sails well above its target.
Sana gets out her morning star and hits the skeleton with a glancing blow, sending a few bone fragments flying across the cage.
The skeleton is wearing a broken chain shirt. As it turns to swing at Sana, Hadgar puts up an aether barrier between Sana and the skeleton. The skeleton takes a swing at the barrier with its claws, tearing down the barrier with its two attacks.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Damn, don't want to go close to the table cos I'm sure something's waiting to pounce.
Shard looks around, not wanting to go near the table with the weird spider legs. Instead he looks around to try find the level for the cage holding Sana to try and reset it to free her.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Hadgar Blacksun
|
To be frank, Hadgar's readied action is intended to block incoming attack/s that will hit (e.g attack/s that did not miss due to being equal to or higher than AC/nat 20) not attacks that fail to penetrate AC.
Antikas Fenrith
|
Antikas tries the wand again.
Use Magic device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 YES!
magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
And with that a bee made out of energy flies out of the want like a missile of magic towards the skeleton harassing Sana.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
Antikas shakes his wand again and this time a bolt of force energy flies from it striking the skeleton and destroying it.
Out of Combat
You guys can get eventually get Sana out of the cage.
@Hadgar: I'm not sure what you mean. The trigger of your action was to put the wall up when one of your allies is being attacked. You can't retroactively block an attack that already hit (once the die roll happens, the attack happens. You can't wait and see what the die roll is to decide to do something; in face-to-face games you state your action then you roll the die). When you ready an action, you ready it based on a triggered action someone (or something) else performs. The die roll is to see how well an action is performed. In this case, the skeleton goes to attack (the triggered action); your readied action goes off; the skeleton hits your cover instead of Sana. If you wait to see if the skeleton's attack makes it through Sana's defenses before putting the cover up, it's too late, the skeleton has already struck Sana.
Nor'scrik
|
Nor'scrik is just about to spring into action when a swirling force bee strikes the skeleton and destroys it.
"Skeleton-cage in the middle of the room, huh? That's a new one! Sana is ok, yes? Good good!" says the ratfolk as he goes back to inspecting the door.
Using Kinetic cover in the way you describe seems correct to me GM. The trigger described above only really works for effects that cause a re-roll or an attack penealty.
Sana Salvas
|
"I thought you were supposed to find traps like this." Sana says to the ratfolk, obviously a bit upset at having a cage dropped on her, and having a skeleton try to kill her. She is a bit curt but you can see that she realises as she finishes that she is taking her anger out on you and doesn't mean to.
Qildar
|
Qildar nods in agreement at Nor'scrik's comment. "Yeah, we need to be more careful. These goblins seem a little more clever than the typical ones. First the construct and now undead? And this is the second trap to fall from the ceiling. I don't trust those things on the table so let's not get too close but I also don't want to leave them there if they are going to move. If everyone is ready, I can poke them from a distance to see if they will move," he says waiting for everyone to get into position.
Is the cage still in the middle of the room or did we find how to raise it out of the way. If it's still there, I'll move to the northwest corner. Once ready, I'll cast acid splash at each creature waiting for a minute for movement before moving on to the next.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
Assuming taking 10 as stated before: Nor'scrik checks the door. He does not find it trapped or locked.
The cage is still there.
Qildar moves himself to the corner of the room. As he does one of the severed limbs twitches for a second and Qildar sends an orb of acid at it.
Nor'scrik
|
"Nor'scrik try harder, sorry fiery lady." says Nor'scrik with genuine concern on his ratty features.
When Qildar mentions goblins Nor'scrik pipes up again.
"Little green menaces up above? You think maybe more here? Nor'scrik ready to slash them up good!" he says with a swipe of his sharp looking claws.
Once he's finished showing off his enthusiasm for slicing goblins he heads over to look at the table to see if anything useful is there for the taking. His sensitive nose turns up a little at the smell of the bodies and the bucket of blood under the table.
Nor'scrik
|
Nor'scrik waves the vials and the scroll case at the others.
"I found some things. Anyone here good with magic things? Nor'scrik can't do magic spells."
Antikas Fenrith
|
"I'll have a look, I know a thing or two." Antikas says as he walks over.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 +2 to identify magic item properties
Nor'scrik
|
Nor'scrik goes back to the door to finish checking it. When he's happy it's safe he opens it and makes sure it connects up tot he corridor the group saw earlier.
"I don't like this room anymore. It's too creepy and that spider leg keeps moving. So, this way or back to that other door?" he says as he kicks the twitchy spider leg under the table.
Sana Salvas
|
"C'mere Shard." Sana says as she digs through her pack, looking for the wand she has stowed in there. "The cage hit you on the way down as well didn't it?"
She eventually finds the wand and says a short prayer before using it to heal Shard, and then herself.
CLW Wand Shard: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW Wand Sana: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

"That's better isn't it? We are still a bit bruised but we are better." she ruffles his fur a bit.
_Shard_
|
Shards stretches as the healing power goes through him and the big blue and black bruise fades away.
"Muuuuch better, thanks friend Sana." he says as he stretches and his hair bristles.
Antikas Fenrith
|
Antikas holds the potions up. "These are both healing potions. Good back ups in case Sana runs low. Who wants to take 'em. As one of our scouts I think Nor'scrik should take one in case Sana can't get to him."
Nor'scrik
|
Nor'scrik is happy to go through the door he's nearest to.
Sana Salvas

Sana dusts herself off. Pointedly not looking at the tables. She stiffens her back and walks up to the ratfolk, "You said it's safe right?" Sana asks, and on confirmation she opens the door slightly to peak through

|
Nor'scrik goes back to the door to finish checking it. When he's happy it's safe he opens it and makes sure it connects up tot he corridor the group saw earlier.
Nor'scrik had already looked through and was waiting for more people to post before moving thorugh the door.
"Wait for me fiery lady!" says Nor'scrik as he scampers after Sana.
Qildar
|
Not sure what to think yet of the new ratfolk, Qildar lets him take the lead, holding on to his longspear to be able to attack from a distance. He decides to hang towards the back of the group to see how effective he can be from that position.
Nor'scrik
|
"Yes-yes. Check the next door. Lot's to inspect in here." says Nor'scrik, clearly happy to be useful.
He follows Sana's footsteps then slips past her to check the door.

I am really curious how I manage to fall onto 4 spikes while Nor'scrik only gets one? I am not trying to be facetious, text is horrid for tone, I am genuinely curios as to the wording of the trap.
"Eeeeek" is the only sound that escapes Sana's lips as the floor gives way, "Ughhhhhh" a low groan escapes her lips as she lies on the floor of the trap, with a spike straight through the back of her thigh.
After a moment she starts to move and a guttural cry escapes her lips as she didn't notice the spike in her leg. The other can hear a scream of pain, and determination, through gritted teeth, as she pulls her leg free.
She moves over to Nor'scrik, dragging her leg, leaving a trail of blood in her wake. Teeth gritted against the pain she kneels next to the ratfolk and shakes him, "Nor'scrik? Are you okay?"

reflex DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Nor'scrik jumps back quickly as the floor falls beneath him. He thinks to warn Sana but sees he is already too late.
"Sana! Nor'scrik OK up here." He turns tot he rest of the group.
"Anyone got a rope?" he says as he kneels down to inspect the trapdoor.
Sorry Sana, i messed up your post by passing the save. Though i do appreciate you checking on my little ratfolk.

I had to read the spoiler and completely forgot you got to make a save too :P. It actually makes it more fun because now I can do this...
Sana quickly turns to look up out of the pit, and seeing Nor'scrik up there she turns back to the Nor'scrik she was offering medical attention to. Needless to say she wouldn't be able to do much for the skeleton with a spike through the back of the skull and out though the eye socket.
It takes her a moment and a shake of her head to properly figure out what is going on, but she does and with a squeak she pushes herself away from the corspe and against the wall of the pit. As she does she pushes herself into the spiders webs which cling to her hair. Screaming she pushes herself back into the middle of the pit, standing, making a pointed effort to not look at the skull.
She closes her eyes and breathes for a few moments, before pulling her wand from her bandoleer and casting to heal herself a few times.

Sorry about the lack of creativity on the description of the encounter. It's been a really long few weeks and I was more focused on getting a post out than being creative.
I rolled seperately for each. 1d4 Spikes attacked each target (unfortunately the RNG gods weren't kind to you this time). Rolled attacks for each spike. Rolled spike damage and falling damage.
. . . As the oracle and rogue walk through the cooridor, focused on the door ahead, the floor beneath them gives way. Nor'scrik's whiskers twitch just before he loses his footing and is able to jump back onto solid ground, but Sana isn't as lucky. The ifrit falls into the floor and lands hard on her back as three spikes impale her, a 4th just narrowly missing. As she makes her way to her feet, movement from behind the webs across from her catches her eye and s a spider the size of a large dog makes its way out of its hiding spot and starts to close the trap door; its crimsom eyes fixated on its prey. This spider is similar to the ones that are on the table in the previous room.
This happens before Sana has a chance to heal.

Sana doesn't notice the spider, goes over to the corpse and does her post from earlier, getting 1 heal off, I think. If thats too many actions she will heal and then move over to the corpse next turn
Nor'scrik

I don't really have a useful action to perform right now so Nor'scrik will delay. I debated dropping down the pit but i think the spikes would hurt. I also thought about dropping an alchemist's fire ont he spider, but Sana would take 4 splash damage thanks to archetype bonus and doesn't have fire resistance. Free action yelling will do for now.
Nor'scrik sees the spider heading for Sana and yells for the others to help.
"Sana down pit with a spider trying to eat her! Come help quick, quick!"
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
Sana pulls out her wand and heals herself and moves to the corpse.
As Nor'scrik cries for help, the spider moves up the side of the wall and closes one of the trap doors, webbing it in place. The Red box is the closed trap door. The spider currently has cover from those outside the pit.
