I'll give Nyxra another few hours before botting her.
Kintargo GM
Aw, and it's so close to hitting, too!
Kintargo GM
I'll give Aisling a few more hours to post before I move us on.
Kintargo GM
My posts will be a bit later today than usual. Sorry, stuff comes up, you know how it goes.
Kintargo GM
I'll give it until tomorrow for you all to ask any further questions, before having you escort the moron Azvernathi out of Kintargo.
Keep in mind that you've seen how terrible a liar he is, so he may (accidentally) betray you to any patrols you encounter on your way to the gates. He'll be able to leave them despite curfew, though, because, uh, Asmodean.
Vantine Roubanis
According to Azvernathi the Redactors and company down below stay there without coming up often. We should be able to leave for rest, healing, and regaining spells without what happened on the ground floor being noticed.
After that last fight I'd say we need it!
Kintargo GM
Whenever you guys are ready to move into the Many-Steps Monastery (which is its name, as I think Rexus may have mentioned?), I'll put you over next to the Aroden statue. Unless you still want to poke around on the top floor.
Kintargo GM
Checking in with everyone - it's been a quiet week, and I wanted to make sure things're going well.
Vantine Roubanis
Since it looks like Nox will be presenting us with DR problems, and will probably be very dangerous, and we probably won't be able to get everyone's weapons set to bypass the DR, I'd suggest this.
Whoever has the most damage potential on hits gets the aligned weapons. Those with lesser damage and thus without aligned weapons don't attack Nox directly but use their actions to aid the attacks of those who can bypass the DR.
I think it's better to insure the big hits are landing than making a bunch of attacks with little result.
Kintargo GM
Keep in mind that the aligned weapons will only last 3 minutes. Also, to clarify, it's not DR on Nox - it's that she has regeneration that's suppressed only by good damage. There may well be devils down there, but Azvernathi didn't mention any.

I had a bit of a reaction to my covid booster shot and was in bed for most of yesterday. Feeling better now, though.
Got a major snowstorm/potential blizzard due to rip through my area all day on Saturday, and the meteorologists are saying there's a decent chance for power outages, so if I go silent this weekend, that'll likely be the reason.
I figure the oil of align weapon Jessi bought will probably go to Nyxra or the Raven when push comes to shove.
Vantine Roubanis
Yeah, the booster hit me a little harder than the previous shots too.
Then I got covid a week later. :p Very mild case though. I'd say I got boosted right in the nick of time!
Kintargo GM
I'll give it another few hours before having you descend into the monastery.
The Raven
I been busy with stuff the last couple weeks. Once I catch up on sleep and work I'll be back to regular posting.
Kintargo GM
I can't think of one myself, honestly, and I really like the idea, too. It's a matter of it being a creature of Axis, really, and the Asmodeans being fairly good at manipulating contracts to their advantage.
Kintargo GM
I was just reading its stats, and realized I forgot to mention a few things to Jessi. Namely, scrivenites are resistant to non-chaotic weapons, immune to poison, resist cold and sonic, and are weak to fire. They also are significantly resistant to spells A whopping SR 15. So, uh... wow, this thing is going to be tough.
I'm honestly not sure what exactly they were thinking, putting this in here.
Vantine Roubanis
Yep, that's it for Vantine here. Maybe she should duck out and go buy a wand of CLW for the rest of you instead of just standing around? :p
Kintargo GM
With rolls like these, who needs enemies?
Aisling Talbot
I tihnk it depends on the group. You'd normalyy expect to have at least one hitter - Str 18, 2 handed wepaon, power attack - DR 5 wouldn't bother them at all. W're better at the intrigue stuff but light on DPR. Bt we'll manage.
Vantine Roubanis
I'm going to have to beg to differ. We're not managing this.
Should we leave now and come back with a bunch of fire?
Kintargo GM
It might help. On the other hand, it would give the Asmodeans a chance to get reinforcements without you to stop them.
But yeah, I think a slightly more martial party would have a better chance against this thing. If I had been reading ahead, I'd've plonked a few more fire things in the loot you've found.
Sorry about that.
Vantine Roubanis
I think it's time for me to admit a witch doesn't work in this AP. It seemed like a good choice since the setting is a city full of humanoids. However on the rare occasions when we're actually encountering humanoids rather than undead, outsiders, etc., they have jacked will saves. The mooks down here are monks with what, +5 to their saves? This scrivener has something in the ballpark of a +10 to will saves?
I've spent a year+ waiting to get out of the stretch where I'd be able to do something useful in more than about 30% of our encounters and it still hasn't happened. I'm going to start looking at alternative classes and will probably retire Vantine for something viable.
Aisling Talbot
I din't clock that it could fly, that does change things :( I've been delibreratly not getting alchemist fire or any cleric fire spells because it doesn't work on devils.
@Vantine - I totally get what you're saying, but I'd be very sorry to see Vantine leave - she's a great charcter and a nice foil for Jessi *and* for Aisling *and* for Raven/Alexus. It woulnt be the same without her. If you're sure that withc doesn't work, would you think about keeping her but jsut with a different class? A sorceror who can spam out burning hands and magic missile spells would be great backup right now. And she'd still have great Cha :)
Kintargo GM
I'm sorry that you keep feeling that way. I swear that there are more humanoids, but they aren't really showing themselves. The favored enemies in the Player's Guide offers humanoid (human) as a recommendation, but it also has like, six other recommendations.
The scrivenite is able to use protection from chaos 3 times per day, which also feels like a big middle finger to chaotic (as most PCs will be in this AP) spellcasters when combined with its already ludicrous SR.
Vantine Roubanis
I like Vantine quite a lot as well, I'm glad others do too, especially since there seemed to be some reservations about her at the beginning. Most of the gaps witches suffer from can be fixed with feats and so forth, but the question there is, since this is PbP, is it really worth another year or more for her to gain the levels, to get the feast and spells, to actually matter in the game?
It would be a long slog during which she is around for color and entertainment value during the times when the party doesn't have anything to do aside from write RP posts.
Regardless of any character changes later though, the problem right now is we're not going to win this encounter, or we will barely scrape through and have to turn around to heal and fix INT damage right afterward. The math simply isn't there for a better outcome.
Either way there will be time for reinforcements to arrive while we're gone. Are we going to stick around and risk character deaths, or come back better prepared? Since I'm probably retiring Vantine anyway (although sorcerer might be an option) it doesn't matter much to me which we do.
Aisling Talbot
I see 2 issues - 1 is Vantine thiniking about whether to wait 12+ more months for the build to come online or whether to change things up. Teh sencond is this encounter.
@GM - would you let us do a minor retcon to have some alchmist fire with us? We're lvel 3, we have an organisation that can supply us with stuff, I don't think it's a big ask to give us 2 flasks each. We cna then burn this thing down and move on.
Oterhwise, like Vantine said, the maths isn't on our side.
Kintargo GM
I was actually thinking of that - especially since it was on me that I didn't tell Jessibel that it was vulnerable to fire. So, no, I don't mind you slightly retconning and getting some alchemist's fire. I would say you should pay for them though - I'm not that generous. :P
Kintargo GM
I'll bot Nyxra if she doesn't post within the next six or so hours. Also, Aisling, if you want to take actions other than shouting at the scrivenite, feel free. :P
Kintargo GM
I'll give Vantine and Raven until later today before botting them, just so we can get through this scrivenite.
Vantine Roubanis
That successful Hex will have to be Evil Eye. Misfortune can only be used on a particular target once per 24 hours. I think a -2 to AC is the best option for the effect.
Yes, Vantine won't be throwing any flasks, it would almost certainly end in tears, and they're a limited resource so best not to waste them. She'll hand any she has off to someone else.
Kintargo GM
Ah, crap. I forgot that. Well, fair enough then.
Kintargo GM
I'll give Aisling and Nyxra a few more hours before botting them.
That being said, is everyone still around? We've been slowing down a bit recently, and I hope everyone's doing alright.
Vantine Roubanis
Things are fine here.
I'm looking into possibilities for maybe shifting Vantine mechanically with as few ripples as possible. Maybe switching her to being a sorcerer.
Kintargo GM
Sure. Retraining is an option, as well.
Kintargo GM
Two each. So, uh, one for Aisling, Raven, and you.
Kintargo GM
Oh, shoot. I just botted you. It ended the combat, too. Sorry about that. Glad to have you back, though!
