Haggin joins Drax in search of a looking glass. He'll scribble on a piece of paper I might be able to fix a broken one with a spell.
He then motions to the girl to go ahead and start looking around the cabins and the hold for what they seek.

Are the places I detect magic on living people only? Can I see who they are?

Female Svirfneblin unchained monk 1 / unchained rogue (Earth Shadow) 1

Sal favors each of them with a curt nod of her head. She then rushes off to the captains cabin as the first place she would think to look for a spyglass.

Just going to take twenties till I have searched the room top to bottom. Let me know what I find please.

Haggin, you notice some magic items about the ship not on people and on a few of the deceased. One is the captain, and three are other crewmembers. Plumwhisper had nothing magical on her.

Sal, you find a rather ornate spyglass in a case in the second drawer of his nightstand. In the top drawer, there is a bottle of Kyonin wine with two glasses. In the bottom, there are some documents written in a script you may know to be Elven with a DC 10 Linguistics check.

Quiahar succeeds at ascending to the crow's nest with ease. Before he hoists himself into it, however, a cutting Caw! sounds from the nest. For others above deck, it sounds like a raven. Quiahar doesn't need to guess because he can see the bird; it's perched on the rim of the nest opposite you, staring down. The pale moonlight gives its black feathers an eerie aura, but this unnerving scene is bolstered by the bird's eye - glowing green. A bright chartreuse, as the avian creature stares down its beak at you, you find it difficult to breath...

Fort DC 24, 3 times please.

Male Gnome Sorcerer (3) HP (16/16)| AC/T/FF 12/12/11|CMD 10|Init +1|Perc +4|Sense +0|F +3|R +2|W +3|

I will go to the corpse of the captain and try to find what is magical on him. I will also go investigate all of the auras on the deceased. As far as the ones not on people I will use common sense, if they are in someone's belongings I will simply ask about it later, if the item is hidden away somewhere I will try to determine what it is. Perhaps one of these items is causing what has happened or our deafness... or both.

Whatever I find on the dead I will collect, if they are not the cause of our problems they may still help the living.

When Sal finds the wine, Filios immediately recognizes the Kyonin Red.

I'll be taking that wine, Sal, as I am the only one who can truly appreciate the vintage. It is from my homeland.

He reaches for the wine bottle, and he notices the Elven script.

Need a translation of the Elven writing?

Gm, for reference, how high is the crow's nest?

Female Svirfneblin unchained monk 1 / unchained rogue (Earth Shadow) 1

Ok, I had to think long and hard about what Sal would do in this situation. It has taken me the better part of 2 hours to weigh metagame vs ingame. I have decided to say screw metagame I am an RPer first and foremost so Filios this is nothing against you as a player. Filios the character just did something impulsive in a really bad situation.

Sal finds the wine and notes first as otherwise she would have stopped searching and handed the spyglass off to Haggin to make sure it wasn't broken.

Linguistics check1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Hmm what is this, odd writing maybe someone else can translate it.

Afterwords Sal brings all of what she found over to were Haggin is looting the captain and places the case on the bed next to the captain.
She pulls the wine bottle out next, thinking how it would probably help the crew spirits after everything is settled if they broke open all the good drinks on ship. She looks at it for a moment, not recognizing the maker having very rarely had a reason to drink anything more than a small bier. She then goes to place the wine next to the case.

As Sal moves to place the wine a shadow falls over her. Feeling a looming presence over her shoulder Sal drops the bottle as an arm darts past her to grab it, her mind places the expected thunk in the silence even though she still can not hear. Still not being able to hear, and still under the impression they are under attack and she can't trust anyone but Haggin,(and maybe the halfling, she hasn't quite decided on him.) she decides to treat this as an attack on herself.

Haggin notes the spyglass on the bed. Excellent, hopefully the halfling will be able to use that to get us home. As I continue to try and find out what the aura of magic is about on the captain the events about happen. Since I can't hear and can only try to detect sudden movements and such.

The nest is 30 feet high.

In my former post, I meant to type "eyes." I didn't mean to indicate the bird had only one. It, in fact, has two glowing eyes.

As the monk is pulling himself up to the crow's nest, he finds he is unable to breathe. Worse, the air in his lungs seems to disappear, while in his mind, the image of the crow's eyes staring at him is all-consuming. The bright green seems to burn into Quiahar's soul, and he hears a loud Caw! as he collapses to the floor of the nest. After the squak, he tries again to draw a breath and succeeds, the salty air of the sea filling his lungs. A flapping of wings is heard as the bird flies away - down to the deck's railing for others looking.

Your hearing is back, Quiahar.

Sal snarls angrily at the elf, keeping her weapon in her left hand in case he continues his hostility towards her. She motions furiously with her right hand making writing motions in the air, and it dawns on her their is paper and quill here in the room. She nods a thanks to Haggin as the healing washes over her and storms over to a desk to find the needed writing instruments. Quill and paper found, she begins to scratch out a letter. She then angrily shakes the piece of paper at Filios, places it on the desk, and steps away from it keeping him in her field of view the whole time.

Dristen's attack succeeds at being able to douse the bird and give it trouble flying for a bit, but it continues to soar away. Saladraxis happens upon him starting out over the railing. Quiahar's eyes, good as they were, could only make out water, for water was all there was, and this didn't help him determine his location. Water has a tendency to look the same in many places.

Haggin, on the captain, finds four magical items:

  • A stone
  • His boots
  • His rapier
  • A ring

He smiles, though it seems subdued. He writes a note for her: I don't suppose you can see in the dark? We'll have to wait for the morning to see land. The bird made it to the ship though, so we must be close.

The gnome takes a short while to look-over the items. A strange, elliptical stone is found in the captain's pocket, pocked with different shades of tan. Quite smooth, the rock fits in the size of an Elf's palm. For Haggin, it can be held in one hand, but it sticks out past his fingers. The magic the stone emits is that of a temporal nature, seemingly to overcome the effects of old age.

The boots and rapier draw his attention next, but their exact function escapes his knowledge. Haggin discovers the boots have a transmutation aura emanating from them, while the sword is home to a feeling of necromancy.

Lastly, the ring on the captain's right hand is rather ornate. Housing an emerald in the shape of a rhombus on the primary face, the band seems to be of white gold. An Elven inscription adorns the inside of the ring.

Elven:
To my beloved

However, it is not just the physical value of the ring that stands out to Haggin. A protective field surrounds the object, guarding its wielder from harm. How useful that is, however, is debatable - especially as its owner is now a corpse.

The stone has Lesser Age Resistance, while the ring has Protection +1.
