Survivor's Salvation

I know the start is a ways off, and we still don’t have a lot of info, but if you don’t mind chatting a bit to get to know each other now....

How much experience do you have with Pathfinder before this? With pbp? Are there particular classes you’re most interested to try for the playtest?

Hi GM, sure, thanks for asking and I'm happy to get the conversation rolling.

I've been playing Pathfinder for about 4 years, all with PFS, and started playing PbP almost a year ago and am really enjoying the medium. I like face to face games too but due to having a small child I don't get to them as much as I'd like. I'm the venture agent for a small venue where we have a once/monthly game, for which I'm often the GM.

I haven't given much thought yet to which will be my first PC for the next edition of Pathfinder, or which class I'd like to play for the playtest, so I expect I can be pretty flexible based on what the party needs. Maybe an alchemist to see what all the hubbub is about? Or a monk to see how the combat rules have changed? Or maybe I should try a barbarian since that was my first PC for PF1.0? And I always like arcane casters too. Will be a tough choice... :-)

I started playing Pathfinder last July. It's not a well known hobby here in the Philippines so I played online via discord and roll20. Because of that, I decided to give PbP a try around August and I've been hooked ever since.

I might go for a martial character because of the simplicity of it.

Survivor's Salvation

I guess I should answer my own questions! I started playing Pathfinder a couple years ago in a home game with some friends. (Rise of the Runelords! My bard has managed to survive all the way to level 15. We'll finish it one day.) I began doing organized play (PFS and SFS) in the pbp format about a year ago. I'm shy, so the idea of GMing in person is quite intimidating, but I've discovered that I really enjoy doing it in pbp.

I'm intrigued by the new designs for all of the classes that we've heard about so far, so I'm excited to see how they all work. Lucky for me if I'm the GM I don't have to pick!

I started Pathfinder, PFS, and pbp all on the same day back in March of this year. Would like to see how arcane casters play out.

Elinnea, your answers could almost be my own! My home group made the switch from AD&D 2nd/3rd/3.5 to Pathfinder a little over four years ago, starting with the Rise of the Runelords AP. Some months after that (early 2014) I jumped into doing PbP and then got into doing PFS PbP maybe a year, year and 1/2 after that....so, mid to late 2015, I'd guess. I've only been GMing for PbP a little over a year but I've come to really enjoy it, even more so than playing at times!

And I am also shy as well as introverted IRL so PbP lets me really get my roleplay on in a way that I never can manage with face-to-face (F2F) games :)

For the playtest, I'm not really picky about what I'd like to try playing! I tend to gravitate towards support characters and casters though so maybe I'll see if I can stomach playing a cleric again :)

VC Australia - WA

Although I have some previous RPG experience, my exposure to Pathfinder happened through some homebrew games with friends in California. Then I moved to Washington and apart from returning for conventions and occasional weekends, my playing days had pretty much stopped.

Last August I attended GenCon for the first time to help out Lone Wolf Development. I spent a lot of my time assisting new players to generate their characters for PFS. After that, I decided I should check out this organized play thing. The following weekend was a local convention where I was working registration which happened to be right near the PFS room. I popped in, managed to snag a couple of games during the weekend, collected information on the local group, then around December I actually made contact and started attending. I now regularly play both PFS and SFS and I am really excited to try more of the Playtest. (I had a tiny bit of exposure at PaizoCon.)

I am currently enjoying my first foray into PbP. I too am on the shy and introverted side, so while I admire the wonderful roleplaying others often bring to the table, I have difficulty matching it. PbP is allowing me to experiment more and try to bring more character to the story.

As to who will meet you all in this new adventure - I am undecided. Possibly a bard will come forward to observe and document your great deeds, to make sure your stories are passed forward through the generations as they should be. I am looking forward to finding out what speaks to me when I read the Playtest material. I usually try to stay responsive and flexible though to help with party balance.

Just peeking in; hope everyone had a grand 4th of July (if you celebrate) and/or a wonderful Wednesday if you don't :)

VC Australia - WA

Thank you, Lady Ladile. I am currently being serenaded by the sounds of fireworks.

I too hope everyone had a grand day.

Survivor's Salvation

I spent all afternoon and evening playing Pathfinder sooo... it was a good holiday. ^^

Hi GM, now that the playtest rulebook is available I realized that I'm not sure whether we are supposed to make our own characters for this adventure, or use pregens that the scenario has provided. Any ideas? Thanks!

Survivor's Salvation

You can either create your own first-level character following the guidelines in this thread here, or you can use one of the level 1 iconic pregens. Whichever way you prefer to play! (I haven't seen the pregens available to download yet, but I assume they will be soon-ish.)

I was planning on building a martial character, but the alchemist class really piqued my interest. There are a lot of interesting things about this playtest.

It’s good that they’ve said all four of the PFS scenarios will be repeatable, so you can make different characters to try out anything you’d like.

Ok, thanks. I'm just starting to read through the playtest rulebook so I'll let it all percolate a bit before I decide.

I’ll definitely use a pregen. I’d rather get my feet wet in game before building something. Are those out anywhere yet?

Survivor's Salvation

No, not yet. Maybe they’ll go up once the team recovers from GenCon.

VC Australia - WA

For any Herolab Online users - Playtest is now available there, it will automatically be upgraded to 2E at the appropriate time at no additional charge.

I have started building my bard. :-)

Survivor's Salvation

I’m curious, does Herolab Online have an export format for use on forums?

That is what I used for Sharmain in your game Elinnea. So, yes. :-)

Survivor's Salvation

So does that work for the playtest characters as well? I don't have a pre-formatted template ready to use yet for the new style of character, but if Herolab puts out a nice one I could use that as a guide. For when I get around to playing myself, that is. :)

VC Australia - WA

It should do. As soon as I have time I will test it out. As it is simply a second game system in the same overall program/product the output options should be identical. At GenCon I was only looking at print options though so really did not pay any attention to this.

Inactive

Howdy-ho, here's Ladile's first playtest character peeping in! If someone else wanted to be a bard though, it'd be no problem for me to whip up another character - I'd love to try the cleric or sorcerer out as well :)

Also the Herolab Online stuff for the playtest is quite handy if you have the money to spare on it!

Survivor's Salvation

I've PMed our sixth player and am waiting for a response. If they don't get back to me, I will either open it up to a new person to join, or just run with five characters.

I still haven't seen any sign of the pregens; just responses saying they intend to clean them up post-Gen Con but no ETA.

Has everyone else figured out what you'd like to play? Any difficulties or confusions about character creation?

VC Australia - WA

Rumour has it they are aiming to release the pregens this weekend.

I have the ones from GenCon but there were a few errors and other issues they wanted to fix.

If there are still no pregens by a couple days prior to start I'll just slap something together. I'm looking at a Bow Ranger to see how ranged combat works in P2.

Dark Archive

I think I am that 6th player. I have created a goblin alchemist for another playtest and could play it here as well IF there are no pre-gens available. I'd prefer to play another class and if I have time do not mind making one from scratch. Just not sure yet.

Survivor's Salvation

Yes, hello! We're scheduled to start on Monday, so if they do get the pregens available this weekend (as John Compton just verified that they should) that will be in time. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a backup plan in case they're not, though.

Monday, August 13, is my wedding anniversary, so I will most likely not be able to post at all that day. Also, I will be traveling Thursday, August 16 to Monday, August 20 and may have very limited internet access. Please bot me as needed.

Survivor's Salvation

Ok, good to know. Happy anniversary!

I’ll get an intro post up in gameplay sometime today, so you all can start introducing yourselves there, and we’ll begin in earnest tomorrow.

Dark Archive

Looks like the pre-gens will not be posted til Monday...

Dark Archive

And I now have a family issue and will be traveling out of town a number of times in the next month. Sorry to be in and then out again, but I had best drop this one. Not sure I will have the time to do it justice. Sorry.

Survivor's Salvation

It's good to realize that before starting. :)

I wish you the best with whatever's going on.

This is Pete H.

I put together a Taldan farmhand barbarian to get ahead of the release date for the pregens.

I'm still figuring out how all the #'s work out and have yet to purchase my gear so a chunk of my profile is still pending.

Sounds good, GM! I'm at work today but will check in to gameplay as I can :)

Sorry to see you go, Skorn!

VC Australia - WA

Sorry for the late submission, life has blown up in my face but I will try to stay on top of things once we get started properly.

I have three potential characters mostly ready to go. They are fully generated though I need to add more to their online presence here.

Would you like a bard, a rogue, or a ranger to join the party?

Feel free to take a quick look at my aliases. The last three, Gypsy, Jorgon, and Seveen are my Playtest characters at first level.

If you want someone else I am willing to consider cleric or sorcerer.

Hi folks, looking forward to playing this scenario with you all. I'll post some background info on myself later today, as you've already done.

Here's the character I created earlier. Presenting Tessel Bint Alim, a Sarenite fighter. Tessel is good-natured, transparent, a bit blunt, curious, and braver than she realizes. After a stint with a mercenary company that proved a very poor match for her, she signed up with the Pathfinder Society in the aftermath of the Fleshfiend Siege. (A Qadiran Sarenite fighting with scimitar might seem to step on Kyra's toes, but in my mind the two aren't alike, at all.)

Now, I'm not sure how she would fare in the party composition? It would be a shame for the playtest to have two fighters. If needed, I could still change quite a lot.

Background:

Tessel was born as a fourth child (a latecomer) to a well-off merchant family in a small Qadiran city. With three siblings before her (and quite some years between her and the third), there was not really a role for her in the family: Her eldest brother was to take over the family business, her eldest sister was to take over the household, and her youngerst brother was sent to the church of Sarenrae. Following her heart, Tessel also studies at the temple for a few years. However, she could never compare with the grace and charisma of her brother. The priest how tutored both of them was closed-minded and sent her away to find a different purpose in life.
Not really knowing what to do but without any strong ties to keep her at home, Tessel signed up with the mercenary band of Korshal One-Eye after she learned that they could use a medic. She was with his company for a few months, without much satisfaction. He expected everyone to fight, and she didn't feel much cameraderie among the group. Her breaking point was hit when the group found itself in Absalom during the Fiendflesh Siege. In this moment of distress, Tessel felt that the group could finally accomplish something worthwhile. However, Korshal wasn't interested in fighting the invades. Instead, he hired the band off to one of Absalom's noble famities to increase the guard of their mansion.
Thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with her leader's choices, Tessel quit the next morning. She was now stranded in Absalom, and again looking for direction in her life. Inspired by the Pathfinder Society's actions in repelling the invasion, she decided to join the Society. She's flourished under the training of the Master of Blades, and has even regained some energy to pick up on the teachings of Sarenrae again, learning that her intentions and honesty are more important that the grace of her dance with the scimitar.

Stats:

Ancestry: Human (Keleshite)
Ancestry Feat: General Training (Battle medic)
Background: Acolyte. Trained in Lore (Sarenrae). Feat: Student of the Canon.
Class ability: Attack of opportunity
Fighter feat: Furious Focus
Stats: STR 18, DEX 12, CON 12, INT 10, WIS 16, CHA 10.
Trained skills (3): Athletics, Medicine, Religion
Bonus skill: Lore (Sarenrae)

Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Sarenrae
Fighting style: Scimitar (without shield, to keep a free hand for Battle Medic)

Survivor's Salvation

I wouldn't worry too much about party balance, especially since it sounds like several of you are still up in the air about which character to pick. If you have an idea that speaks to you, go with it!

It's looking like we have a bard, a barbarian (?), a fighter, and whichever one numbat1 would like to bring. I'm not sure what Abraham is interested in playing. Marjim has had to drop the game, so we'll be rolling with five.

Inactive

Just a note that I'm hitting the lake today so I'll largely be out of pocket (and unable to post) until sometime this evening :D

Sorry to be slow. Was hoping to build a PC but I’m clearly not going to have time so I’ll play a pregen. How does a Cleric sound?

Also, fyi, today is my wedding anniversary so the wife and I are heading out for the day. Won’t really be able to post again until tomorrow.

VC Australia - WA

As we already have a bard, I think I will bring the Rogue.

Male NG Human (Kelish) Rogue 1 | HP 21/21 RP 2/2 Hero 1/3 | AC 16 TAC 15 | F: +2, R: +6, W: +3| Perc: +3 | Speed 25ft | Active conditions: None.

And here he is.
Picture not entirely representative, for some reason I was unable to see most of them and the choices rarely match my vision even when I can, though I am grateful that Paizo provides them.

Amiri - CN Kellid (Human) Barbarian 5 | Mods: Rage 2/3, Barkskin 8/10, Sluggish 1 (-1 to AC, Dex Skills, Reflex w/ Bastard Sword out) | HP: 88/88 (temp 8/8) | AC 22 20, Tch 19 17 | Fort: +10, R: +9 +8, W: +9 | Speed 30ft | Perc: +8 (Expert) | Focus Points 1/2 |

Yes, Barbarian is he!

My only question at this point for character creation. We don't get a general feat until lvl 3, unless a special ability allows it? (for example the human ancestry feat that gives a general feat)

Survivor's Salvation

That's correct, there's no general feat at level 1 except for special cases that allow you to take one.

CG Female Human (Qadiran) Sorcerer 1 | HP 16/16 | AC 13, TAC 13 | F +3 R +3 W +2 | Speed 25 ft | Perc +1 | SP 4/4 | Spells, 1st 3/3 | HeroP 1/3 | Reso 5/5 | Active: -

I've decided to switch to Sorcerer. Character concept is nearly the same, but I figured it would be interesting to see a second caster next to the bard. Character sheet is mostly done, just layout for later. Also, equipment yet to be purchased.

--

To tell you all a bit more about myself. I start playing Pathfinder 3.5 years ago, in a Society game. I've been playing society since then, and things truly kicked into gear when I discovered this board to play online. I've played quite a number of scenarios on here, and even GM'd a fair amount. After GM'ing Cosmic Captive last July, I took a break from the forums. Now that the playtest is out, that seemed like a good reason to pop back in. :)

For the playtest, I've brought two groups of friends together in my town. However, I'll be GM'ing in both groups, so I'm glad to have this opportunity to experience PF2 as a player first.

I think I'm done. Not having a clue as to whether I'm actually done or not, anyone is welcome to look over this PC and make comments or point out issues/questions.
