Part 1: Grove
Greetings,
My esteemed ancestor Honaria Alcasti led an army into the Verduran Forest to the north. No records remain of their victories or even what they hoped to accomplish in the forest, at least not in Oppara. The druids of the Wildwood Lodge, however, tell of a blackwood tree that remembers that time and has been granted the power of speech. I’m not sure I believe the tree worshippers, but we can’t afford to let her battles vanish into memory. I’ve purchased safe passage from the Wildwood Lodge and hired some local guides once you get there. See if this tree can really talk and if it has evidence of her victories. I am certain that you will find the compensation for your trouble worthwhile.
Safe travels,
Remaio Alcasti
As the boat glides to a stop among the sweet-smelling blackwood trees on the river’s edge, a gnome woman with twigs braided into her hair waves to the boat’s pilot. A small bear waits patiently at her heel, while a red-bearded dwarf glowers over her shoulder.
Once the PCs leave the riverboat, the vessel’s pilot wishes them well and promises to wait here for their return. The gnome introduces herself as Trajet. She also introduces the dwarf, Polgrin, and bear, Firepaw.
The gnome steps forward,"We will escort you to the tree." She then takes off with out looking back to see if the PCs are followng or not.
No need to post anything yet. But if you want to go ahead. Gameday does not officially start until tomorrow. For more context on the overall mission. Se the details in the campaign info tab.
Hakon PBP
A talking tree with a long memory. Surely there will be some interesting tales in this!
GM Z..D..
Please place your tokens on the southern edge of the map by the river. And lets gets this show on the road. The map link is going to be at the top of the page.
Kyra, Flame of the Dawnflower
Kyra frowns.
"Oppara?" She says. "I hate going to Taldor."
"Bunch of ignorant fools, who have outlawed the worship of the Dawnflower."
I forgot this was in Taldor! Is being a Sarenrae worshiper going to cause issues here? Perhaps Kyra was not the best choice as we dredge up some of these old memories!
GM Z..D..
You should be fine since you were invited here by a Taldan
Enchanter's Pregen
Quinn stumbles a bit, getting off the boat. The last bit had been rough going, and the man was someone who favored dry land. "Hells, let's not take that back..." He follows the others down the plank, blissfully thankful to be on land.
He swallows hard before speaking. "Pleased to meet you. Name's Quinn. I'll be eager to see this tree we've heard so much about."
GM Z..D..
A rain-fed stream rushes between the trees, back towards the Sellen River. The canopy above is thick enough to cast the area into green twilight and provide home to the dozens of birds chattering above. The path breaks away from the stream to the southeast, leading past a small clearing that holds several weathered tombstones.
The center stone as “Aurenia, speaker of the forest” written on it.
Hakon PBP
Hakon is not all that interested in tombstones. The simple one liners don't tell much of a story.
Enchanter's Pregen
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Quinn sees the gravestones and moves closer to inspect them. "I wouldn't expect a graveyard out here. Not enough civilization out this way for a proper graveyard."
"Hmm, 'Aurenia, speaker of the forest'." He turns to Polgrin and Trajet. "That sounds like an important title. Who was Aurenia?"
GM Z..D..
Polgrin explains one of the tombstones belongs to his ancestor, who granted the tree its ability to speak, and the two beside it belonged to her children.
A massive old blackwood tree stands at the side of the trail. Sheets of moss cling to its bark, covering it entirely except for a jagged crack that suggests a mouth.
The tree here is the ancient blackwood that the PCs seek, an awakened tree no longer able to move but still quite capable of gravelly speech.
The gnome named Trajet approached the tree and calls out to it.
"Please oh please cast judgement on these outsiders. These outsiders who shame the Wildwood Lodge with their bribes and treat the sacred tree as a mere servant.”
At this point you here the tree respond to her in a low calm voice. "No my child, I will not cast judgment and do not wish to have them punished. They are guest and should be treated as such.
At this point the Trajet turns on the group of pathfinders, "If you refuse to judge them, then let me cast judgement and punish them for how they offend us."
There are two options, each one will lead to combat. You can show restraint and wait for to attack first or you can interrupt and strike first yourselves.

Kyra utters a quick prayer to Sarenrae, touching Seelah on the shoulder lightly as she does so.
Shield of Faith on Seelah. (That bear, a 5' step away, kind of worries me!) +2 deflection bonus to her AC
We've been traveling a while, do we know if the bear is Trajet's or Polgrin's?
"The only shame here, is yours, if you do not stand down." She says to Trajet.
"What is wrong with your friend?" She adds, glancing at Polgrin. "Did you lead us here, only to ambush us?"
Hakon PBP
Hold action until a violent action occurs.
Merisiel the Pregen
sorry...site didn't show there were new posts in the game play...good thing i checked anyways...
Mersiel readies her blade, gripping it in anticipation.
I don't think he likes us....
Enchanter's Pregen
"What treachery is this? You invite us here to see the tree and then try to kill us? Polgrin, is this how you treat guests?" Quinn twists his cane and a sword appears, but he looks to the others and hesitates to attack.
Draw and ready an attack if Trajet is attacking and comes within range.
GM Z..D..
This is going to end badly.
Kyra to answer your question, the bear is Trajet's.
Trajet calls to the bear guard her. Then begins casting a spell.
Ok the readied actions for approach or when she comes with in range do not go off since she did not approach.
Hakon you may come in and post your actions, since the spell is hostile.IMO it is
Seelah if you wish to come in or pick a spot to come in you may.
Hakon PBP
I assume Trajet is the one in the back and moved accordingly. Hakon will move towards her and go for a grapple. He's not any good at it, but hopefully she isn't either. The bear will get an AOO.
Grapple: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
"Who are you to spill our blood and pass judgement! Cease your spell at once!"
GM Z..D..
The bear does get an attack.
AOO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Jirells takes the opportunity of Hakos grapple to drive her blade into the flesh of the druid.
Jean, pleads for the hostility to cease.
Polgrin realizing his friend maybe in trouble begins to take action. And attacks Jirelle with a spear.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

"I'm trying, dammit! Would the rest of you just stand down and restrain that overstuffed foolishly obedient lump of lard or help me truss up this idiot! Use your hands, not your swords unless you want a bad rep!"
to pin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Kyra, Flame of the Dawnflower
Would Jirelle get the opportunity to parry/riposte the spear? Not sure how that sort of thing works in pbp
You get a +5 on the grapple cause you're in control of it I think, Hakon
"You only compound your friend's foolishness by joining it." Kyra barks angrily at Polgrin as the later starts attacking them with lethal force.
"Help us stop her before she gets gets seriously hurt, else both of you may join your ancestors' gravestones back there."
"And Seelah, not helping is not helping!" She adds, to her own companion.
Can one move through the tree areas? Not sure if those are showing the tops and we can walk under, or are just general overgrowth all over
Trying to figure out if I can reach Hakon with a heal.
Enchanter's Pregen
"Polgrin, stop it! The tree even says to!" Quinn rushes around the dwarf, hoping he will show some restraint in attacking him. He moves up opposite Hakon to try and help him hold down the gnome.
Grapple, aid (flank): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 = 11
Provoke an AOO from Polgrin, but move into flanking position and aid Hakon. That should give him a +2 to his grapple above from flanking, with another possible +2 if Quinn makes the aid.
Kyra, Flame of the Dawnflower
feh... ok, will assume I can't easily move through it, so as not to hang things up and channel instead.
Kyra holds up her holy symbol and intones a prayer to the Dawnflower, as a burst of healing energy radiates outwards.
Use selective channeling to exclude Trajet and the bear.
Channel Positive Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6 healing to all who are not gnomes are ursine.
Hakon PBP
I was hoping you would channel.
GM Z..D..
The way I have seen parry and riposte work, is the player puts their rolls in a spoiler. And what they will or will not parry
Quinn moves up and flanks, Quinns shout at Polgrin momentarily causes him to stop and questions his actions.
Kyra pops of the channel. Trees are going to be difficult terrain
Hakon successfully pins the Gnome to the ground.
The Gnome seems to have lost concentration on the spell it was casting. She will try to free herself.
CMB check vs Hakons CMD: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
She manages to break free. Both parties lose the grappled condition. She will than move back to flank quinn.

Hakon accepts the inevitable, but refuses to participate.
"Her death be on your hands then. We could have subdued her instead of cutting her to pieces. There is NO glory in this!"
He steps back and rests his hand on the tree, sadness on his face.
