| GM thunderspirit |
After checking it out, Quiven opens the door to reveal a small hallway leading inside from the open-air courtyard. There is another door on the right hand side at the end.
Quiven Glist
|
Hmm, another door! Quiven will carefully move down the hallway and rinse/repeat his trade on the new door.
| GM thunderspirit |
Quiven opens the door to find another hallway, this time 10feet long, with doors going north and south.
Beleg the Galtan
|
"Careful up there, halfling. One of these doors'll have something behind it."
| GM thunderspirit |
Carl hears no sound from behind either door.
Quiven Glist
|
Sorry Beleg. Guess I feel a little too safe with the likes of you guys behind me.
Quiven then nods and will do his thing on the door Ander has indicated.
| GM thunderspirit |
Clarifying: The one on the left = north door?
| GM thunderspirit |
Quiven opens the door to find another hallway, 10 feet long, with two doors headed east. Both are locked.
Quiven Glist
|
Good heavens! Now which one? Once Quiven has a door he'll check it out and try to open it up.
| GM thunderspirit |
So, the one closest to the door you came in?
| GM thunderspirit |
Quiven Takes 10 on Disable and opens the door.
This small, foul-smelling room features little more than a reeking hole in the ground, its rim stained with refuse and waste.
Quiven Glist
|
Quiven closes the door. Somehow I doubt we wanna go in there, amirite? If so, I'll check the other door.
Beleg the Galtan
|
"Unless someone's gotta go." Beleg notes.
"Try the next door I suppose. Then head back to the one Carl is guarding."
| GM thunderspirit |
Wisdom check: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16
Maddie wisely asks herself, if there's nothing in the room, why was it nailed shut so deliberately...?
Just sayin'. ;-)
Maddie Sykes
|
"It's quite fascinating that goblins are advanced enough to create and use their own privy." Maddie thinks aloud, as if taking mental notes later on, "But wait. If it was a privy, why would they have locked it so deliberately? I truly do hate to be the one to suggest this, but perhaps we should take a closer look."
Beleg the Galtan
|
"By all means, you first then."
Maddie Sykes
|
Since it was her suggestion, Maddie stoically aids Ander in searching the room.
Aid Another Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Quiven Glist
|
Are you serious? They probably locked it to keep the door from opening and letting that smell out into the world. I mean, yeah, they are goblins but even goblins can't like that smell. Quiven will enter the room but only just inside the doorway, letting the others take the lead in the search.
| GM thunderspirit |
Ander locates a secret door at the back of the disused lavatory, beyond which is another small room containing a single, extra-large sea chest secured with a heavy iron padlock!
| GM thunderspirit |
Since there's a consequence for failing, you can't Take 20 on this. I'll let you Take 10, though, and your 21 will be good enough to see the jagged blade of metal ready to spring out if the chest is jostled in any way.
Quiven Glist
|
Quiven looks at the chest. Oh! Maybe I can try to get past it. Stand clear, please. Quiven takes a deep breath and slowly and carefully tries to bypass the trap on the chest.
Take 10 for 23, if I can't then I'll roll below
| GM thunderspirit |
Taking 10 is fine. And sufficient!
Quiven hits the spring and the blade pops out right into his waiting hand.
Quiven Glist
|
Ha! Worked like a charm! Quiven will take a look inside, being careful to look for any new nasty surprises as he does.
| GM thunderspirit |
And no tetanus, either! w00t!
Inside the chest lies what is surely the accumulated wealth of the Thistletop tribe, culled from junkyards, shipwrecks, ambushed merchants, and unfortunate rival goblin tribes over the past decade or so.
This collection consists of an unorganized pile of 7432 cp, 2490 sp, 89 gp, 3 pp, a leather pouch of 34 badly flawed malachites, a Medium chain shirt, a Medium masterwork scimitar, a pair of masterwork manacles, a gold holy symbol of Sarenrae, a jade necklace, and a fine blue silk gown with silver trim.
flawed malachites (worth 1 gp each)
gold holy symbol of Sarenrae (worth 100 gp)
jade necklace (worth 60 gp)
blue silk gown (worth 150 gp)

Another noob question, can you take-10 on Appraise? If so I can do so and be at 15.
Wow, never woulda guessed all this would be hiding in a cruddy room like this one! Quiven starts taking some of the treasure as he talks. So, after we stash some of this away, where to next? That other door?
Maddie Sykes
|
"Perhaps the goblins are more clever than they appear on the surface." Maddie muses, before casting Detect Magic over the goblin treasure.
Beleg the Galtan
|
Appraise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
"Hmm. Some of this stuff is worth quite a bit. Must've stolen it. I wonder where the unlucky prisoner is now."
| GM thunderspirit |
Carl hears nothing behind the door but the retching and coughing of his party behind him. ;-)
Just then, Maddie and Beleg hear a high-pitched voice behind them, seeming to chant rhythmically! And then arrows fly in!
arrow (w/cover)!: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 10
damage!: 1d4 ⇒ 4
arrow!: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26
damage!: 1d4 ⇒ 2
arrow (w/cover!): 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 19
damage!: 1d4 ⇒ 3
confirm?: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 21
crit dmg: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
In the courtyard behind them, Maddie can see three goblin archers, alongside the chanting goblin, and behind them are a familiar druid and his firepelt cougar, along with a fierce-looking goblin astride a giant lizard!
The riding goblin speaks. You longshanks surrender and maybe we not kill you! If not, Great Warchief Ripnugget feed you to Stickfoot!
Initiative!
Goblin commandos: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Gogmurt: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Tangletooth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Warchief Ripnugget: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Stickfoot: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Quiven Glist
|
Oh no! Where did they come from?
Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Considering my position, I might have to wait to do anything unless I elect to simply double-move or something. The hallway looks kinda crowded.
Beleg the Galtan
|
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
| GM thunderspirit |
GM: Who were the targets of the goblin arrows?
Whoops, my bad. That would be Maddie.
Initiative repost:
Quiven 23
Carl 19
Beleg 19
Gogmurt & Tangletooth 15
Goblin commandos 12
Warchief Ripnugget & Stickfoot: 8+
Ander 8
Maddie 7
Quiven, Carl, and Beleg can go.
Quiven Glist
|
Assuming that Beleg will be moving up, Quiven will move to the spot he vacates and will fire an arrow at the goblin that is furthest to the left on the map (down and left from Carl).
Bow, less any penalties for cover, etc.: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
