Hello, all, and welcome to the latest recruitment thread for Paizo's crown jewel, Rise of the Runelords! I've never played it and I think it's time.
To Apply:
Download the Player's Guide to provide the framework for your character's background.
Create a character with the following guidelines:
1) 20-Point Buy, 1st Level
2) Core races are preferred, but Featured Races from the Advanced Race Guide will be considered if the backstory is interesting and the crunch isn't too overpowered.
3) Choose two traits. One must be a campaign trait.
4) Any non-evil alignments.
5) Max HP at first level
6) Average starting gold for your class
All Paizo-published books, classes, archetypes, and equipment are allowed.
No 3pp material will be allowed. I apologize if that causes any character development issues.
Submit a Background: Tell me why your character's in Sandpoint. Are they from there? If not, where are they from? What are his/her driving goals? Keep your background tight and focused. You can tell the full story in-game if you're selected.
I'm looking for 4 players. Because of this small number, it's important to have all four roles filled - martial, arcane, divine and skills. If you want a better shot of getting picked, don't apply with a character that already has a lot of applicants in that role.
I'm looking for at least one post per day, more if possible. If you can't post, just let us know. During combat, if you go 24 hours without a post, your actions will be botted.
If you lower an ability score to 8, there will be roleplaying consequences and should affect how you play your character. No score may be lower than 8.
This last one is just personal, but I am biased against summoners and paladins. While submitting one won't keep you from getting selected, it's important for you to know that.
Recruitment will be open until I feel like I have enough characters/players to choose from - I'm not certain when that will be, so get the apps in sooner, rather than later, if any of the other recruitment threads are any indication.
Good luck, everyone!

I have a concept for a halfling archaeologist bard, which would do for the skill monkey role and a bit of arcane & healing support. Here's Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow. I haven't gone through equipping the character yet, but that wouldn't take much time.
Favored class bard; +1 skill rank at L1
Skills:
Climb +6
Diplomacy +7
Disable Device +7
Escape Artist +6
Knowledge (Arcana) +7
Knowledge (Dungeoneering) +6
Knowledge (History) +7
Perception +7
Spellcraft +6
Feat: Lingering Performance-Archaeologist's Luck effects persist for two rounds after halting.
Traits:
Scholar of the Ancients-Speaks and reads Thassilonian; +1 trait bonus to Knowledge (Arcana) and Knowledge (History) checks
Vagabond Child-Disable Device is a class skill, +1 trait bonus

I would be interested in playing an LG Dwarf Monk. His motivations are pretty typical for a LG monk, he seeks to use his talents to seek out and destroy evil and protect the innocent. Was looking to do a Vow of Silence, as I think it would be an interesting role-playing mechanic, but I'm still on the fence on that (would have no benefit at level 1 anyway). Going to dump charisma and I'm willing to role play that.
I'll admit up-front that I've never done an online campaign before but am looking forward to giving it a chance.

Meet Tribin, halfling rogue
2'11" tall and 33lbs, with a little effort the 23 year old Tribin still passes for a human child. On many occasions in the town of Sandpoint this deception has earned him a warm meal and a bed to sleep in. Other nights it has earned him a night of running from the local sheriff. Regardless the game has always been entertaining and no one gets hurt, though sometimes Tribin has to fend for himself, and from time to time this means trying to get a few coins off the locals to get a meal at Ameiko's place, though never from someone who appears they cannot afford it. Lately Tribin has been doing well, and this means he is able to give back, whether this means volunteering time at the local orphanage or various locations around Sandpoint. Even assisting Belor, the town sheriff if he needs it.
Str - 11 Dex - 18 Con - 10 Int - 14 Wis - 10 Cha - 14
Roguey skills
Weapon Finesse feat, Dangerously Curious and Family Ties for traits

Warbeak |
Expanding upon my dwarf monk (we'll call him Lollok), I want to use the Outlander - Exile trait and the Law Enforcer trait.
Formerly, Lollok was a member of an order of monks devoted to perfecting themselves and maintaining the order and balance of society. As a journeyman of his order, the headstrong Lollok tended to speak out against the wisdom of his elders. Eager to champion his order's ideals, Lollok felt that his masters were spending too much time looking inward and not working to better the world outside of them. When Lollok confronted his masters over their passive ways, they took offense to his impudence. They gave a mission: to leave the order in order to protect society and actively defend his fellow humanoids from great evil. Although his masters considered this a punishment, Lollok gladly accepted the demand. Until he could return with proof of his heroic deeds, Lollok would not be allowed to return to his order. Furthermore, to atone for his ever-brash tongue, Lollok was made to follow a vow of silence until he could complete his mission.
Believing the city to be a haven for danger and disorder, Lollok found his way to Sandpoint to find a way to make a difference and accomplish his mission.

Rameth the Delver |

I would like to submit Rameth the Delver, he was picked up for a Shattered Star but it seems to have fallen apart.
The only thing that I need to do is drop his point buy, which I would drop WIS. I would need to get rid of my extra gold I have as well and swap out my campaign trait for a different one.
But I believe he is a very solid character, otherwise

Aiden Lightfoot |

"There are eyes in the darkness... always."
Allow me to introduce Aiden Lightfoot, halfling ninja.
He is completely statted up and ready to go with a background I believe ties him strongly to sandpoint and Varisia as a whole.
For myself, posting several times per day won't be a problem. I just hope I finally get a chance to play this appparently amazing AP.
If you have any questions please just let me know.

Do. Not. Fear.
He had told himself this so often it had become a mantra.
He stood at the corner of Festival street and Tanglefoot alley, dressed in black, cloaked in shadow, palms sweating, a knot in his stomach. He had followed his mark for days to become familiar with his movements. Within minutes he would be in sight, heading toward the dock on Mill Pond.
The man was a half-orc named Belok and Uncle Jubrayl wanted him to get a message. He didn't question his Uncle. Sandpoint is a small town and Varisians look after one another. Half the businesses along Festival street gave their unsold food to orphan children at the end of the day or threadbare blankets to the beggars, seeking some respite from the cold.
With news of Goblins and Giants abroad, the small contingent of guardsmen and militia were otherwise engaged these days. Besides, they had never really bothered with Jubrayl. So what if a few crates went missing from the ships in the harbor? Who cared if some of the passing caravans didn't fully declare their goods? The Sczarni had done more to keep the peace than half a dozen sheriffs in years gone by. Belok had moved in though, and within months had a lucrative protection racket operating. Jubrayl had a soft spot for orphans, beggars and needy. Long years in the Sczarni had taught him they were often the best sources of information on the street. He looked after them and they looked after him. If that wasn't the case Aiden would have died as a squalling babe in that grim, Chelaxian whorehouse.
There. The half-orc turned the corner. But he wasn't alone, a tall, broad shouldered human man accompanied him. Protection. Wise, but futile.
He moved swiftly and silently. "Do not fear" he told himself again. First, remove the threat.
His first strike sliced through the human's knee, driving him down to the ground with a grunt, his second ended hilt deep in his throat. Send a message. Twist. Let Belok see the blood flow.
The Half-orc turned to run. Despite his small size, Aiden was faster than most of his kind and, living up to his family name, he closed the gap between them in a heartbeat. Leaping, impossibly high, he vaulted over his prey, his left arm grasping in a kind of headlock. With a twist, he threw his weight backwards and flipped them both, somehow landing on Belok's chest, the razor sharp blade a fraction from his throat.
"You were follish to come to Sandpoint, Belok."
"P...please. I have money.
"I know." said the halfling with a snarl. "taken from the honest folk of Festival Street. The racket ends tonight, or your life ends tomorrow. Remember, Belok, there are eyes in the darkness. Always."
And suddenly he was gone. Melting into the shadows like smoke in the wind. He was not born in Varisia, but this was his land. He did not have family in Sandpoint, but these were his people.

His remaining family struggled, found a new home... in Sandpoint, but rebuilding your lives from nothing is hard. It's even harder to find power when you're powerless, but Ekan was smart and driven. Eventually, the chance came to study magic, and that's what he did.
Ekan became a wizard, and found evocation magic came naturally to him. Perhaps it was all the anger still inside of him but he found the direct application of force quite satisfying. Now he's returned to his second home, determined that Sandpoint never suffer the fate of his first village.
He also wants a wizard tower of his own one day, but he realizes that's a selfish vanity, for now at least.

Rameth the Delver |

gm idyll
since we are wrapping so fast
his trait will be scholar of the ruins as well

Chaise Zikaldiru |

Alright, reworked my character. Now a Skill-based Rogue. Campaign Trait is Favored Son/Daughter (if that's alright).
Basic history is that he's lived in Sandover since his Mother moved there after the death of his father when he was young (a toddler). He's half-Chelaxian from his father's side and half-Varisian from his mother.
His mother works at the local tavern where Chaise helps out from time to time, which is why he knows the owner.
Lately, he's been getting restless. He's hesitant to leave his mother even though she understands his need to travel, because he's still a Varisian and her son. He still stays, because so far he didn't have a reason to go.

Adventus Artemidorus |

Simple story
So he left Korvosa with the damn expensive hippogriff saddle he had had to buy himself in tow. He had heard rumors Sandpoint liked to take in oddities like him and often had the sort of problems a man with a sword could get paid to handle. Besides, the big city had been starting to get to him.

Adventus Artemidorus |

Alright, Adventus Artemidorus, Ventus to his friends, is as finished as he's going to be.
A Sable Company Marine and Skirmisher hybrid, he is meant to be a frontline fighter and will eventually be accompanied into battle by a hippogriff (it'll be a bit before then).
NG, Human and what one might refer to as a 'good guy' without being sickeningly so.
Leaning towards favored enemy goblinoid or magical beast but I have yet to decide.

![]() |

Okay, I updated crunch and fluff to meet your requirements. I'd like to point out I've got well over 3000 post on these boards, so you know I'm reliable. I can post every day, and am an experienced DM as well.
Character advancement wise, Jelani will be a fighter/barbarian with a dip in bard going for steel falcon prestige class. He hits hard, will have decent skills, and can use cure wands (after his bard dip).
Best of luck to the other applicants!

Galia Hartswift |

Among Galia's few possessions is a cowbell. To any normal passerby, it looks like a normal cowbell. Meant to be hung around the lead cow and used in the herding of cows. It is made of brass, has a faint smell of leather, polish, and heather, and has many dings.
But this is no ordinary cowbell. It is a loud cowbell. It goes all the way to 11!
If there's a gap in the group, a lack in the pack, a missing piece in the party puzzle that can only be filled by cowbell, then Galia's the right barbarian for the job.

Nice, I got the reference lol. By why not just get a louder cowbell and call that 10?
Any news on the skilled slot? Aiden sits in the shadows and waits. Patience was one of the first things he learned.

Gimme a few hours but putting up a cleric of Iomadae
Edit - I note you said the divine role is filled and you are looking for Martial, Arcane and Skilled. May I recommend a 5th or possibly even a 6th player? Its easy to lose players in PbP in the many games I've been a part of and it kills the game to have to slow down to recruit that essential extra when you are down to 3.

Personally, I think this is a good idea. Real Life does have a habit of getting the way sometimes and people need to drop out.
Plus a 5th or 6th opens up the possibility of characters outside the iconic roles who can fill more than one occasionally. I'm thinking of the inquistors, magi, bards, alchemists and even druids of this world.
Up to you GM of course but 5 or 6 is just as easy to run as 4 if you get the right people IMHO.
