| Davina Kurikami |
Eep! didn't register that, sorry.
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
One moment, Davina steps into the cavern, the next moment, she knows nothing but darkness.
I take 21 damage and am at -4
| Garavaen Drusus |
oh! Misunderstood! One Reflex, coming up.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Garavaen's keen senses and vigilence give him a brief second of warning, causing him to dive out of the way of the falling grille, removing himself from harm's way.
Ri'el
|
Oops, sorry, didn't realise I was in that aoe either.
reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Fortunately for Ri'el, his vigilance in looking out for clues as to Sandara's whereabouts allows him to see the grille coming, and though he is not naturally the most nimble of sorts, he is able to paddle out of the way just in time.
"Thank you, spirits of the waters, for bearing me safely away from that..." he mutters between gasps.
Astein Longblade
|
Astein rushes over to Davina and rubs a red substance from his spell-pouch into her wounds while reciting an incantation. Her wounds slowly begin to close.
Infernal Healing, 10 points over the next 10 rounds.
| GM Shathira |
The grate falls with a large splash, catching Ri'el, Garavaen and Davina under it. Ri'el and Garavaen are able to dive under just in time to avoid the crushing weight of the trap, but Davina is not so quick. The grate catches her in the back as she tries to dive, and the rough covering of barnacles, coral and rusted metal shear through her skin as the grate pulls her down to the bottom of the pool.
Astein dives under the water and applies the substance to Davina, and the wounds she received from the barnacles and other sharp coverings of the gate stop bleeding, but the more dangerous aspect now is that the grate holds her pinned underwater. There is enough room that all of you could lift at the same time. Sailors that you are, you all realize that items underwater seem to weigh less than their size would otherwise indicate.
Str check DC20. I need to know who's lifting, and who's pulling Davina out.
Ri'el
|
Ri'el also attempts to use his hair to pull the grate up...
str check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
With the size of the grate, would Astein and Ri'el be able to pool their rolls together to lift the grate together?
"Darn this thing is heavy! Eli, leave the lifting to Astein and me, you get down there and pull Davina out!"
Round 2, try again:str check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Round 3, try again:str check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
| Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen grits his teeth and joins in the heavy lifting, Even if I have to be so mundane as using my hands...
Strength (Aid - r1): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Strength (Aid - r2): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Strength (Aid - r3): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
| GM Shathira |
davina con save: 1d20 ⇒ 20
On round 2 after Astein's healing Davina manages to not breathe in water.
On the third round, the group combines their efforts and pulls the grate off of Davina, who seems to be coughing under water. You immediately get her above the water, where she starts coughing up water, but still remains unconscious.
Astein Longblade
|
Astein examines the wounds, making sure the devil's blood is having hte effect it should. "The healing magic is still working... she should awaken momentarily. She may need other aid to be made truly whole, but she will live."
| Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen keeps an eye out for any hostile that might have been attracted by the sound of the grate while Astein tends to Davina. He smiles as she opens her eyes, then says, "Watch out for the grate."
| Davina Kurikami |
Looking up and wincing at the movement Davina manages to say, "W-what happened?" She manages to sit up and then looks around and wincing, "Ow, I feel like Owlbear jumped off a mast and landed on me."
| Davina Kurikami |
Retrieving her final potion from her pack Davina quickly quaffed it to heal her wounds better. Her wounds mostly knitting closed she said, "Much better, thanks for getting me out of there."
Cure Light Pot: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
I'm good.
| GM Shathira |
| Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen starts rushing foward at Astein's whisper, ensuring his crossbow is properly loaded. He all but growls, "Then it's time to save them. How many of those beasts?"
Ri'el
|
Oooo... Ri'el's berserk-button has been pressed.
Ri'el's eyes widen at the news and the mention of Sandara's name. He quickly casts monkey fish on himself, then climbs the walls of the cave above the waterline into the cave.
"We're going in. Now." he growls, apparently heedless of whether or not he is going to be the only one going in.
How much space is there between the current waterline and the ceiling? Ri'el will be keeping close to the ceiling.
| GM Shathira |
@Ri'el: About 5'at the entrance to the cave, and then the ceiling raises to about 15' in the center, where Sandara and Crimson are trussed up.
As the group starts to move forward, you also see two of the most loathsome creatures you've yet encountered. A Grindylow whose tentacles ooze a blackish slime, and carries a wicked looking harpoon, and another maybe Grindylow, who has grown so large and bloated it more than doubles the size of any other Grindylow you've seen. Its gaping toothy maw looks like it would be able to eat creatures whole without much problem.
| Davina Kurikami |
Following her friends Davina heard Astein say they found Sandara and Crimson. To her surprise Davina felt a flutter at hearing Crimson was in there and alive, even if he wasn't in the best shape. She cast a spell on herself and then asked, Does anyone else need a way to navigate in the water easier? I can cast the same spell for you that I used on myself though I might need the magic more once we go in."
I cast touch of the sea on myself.
Astein Longblade
|
Seeing that time is of the essence, Astein pulls some ground mica from his pouch, flinging it towards the two creatures while reciting words of power. The mica flairs with magical energy and settles around the nasty beasts.
Glitterdust.
| Garavaen Drusus |
The water acts as difficult terrain, or is it a need for swim checks? (just trying to figure out if I can get within range and fire before they drown our crewmates)
Ri'el
|
Ri'el uses his spell to cling from the ceiling rather than swim in the water, and takes position beside Astein and behind Eli, waiting to see whether Astein successfully affects the creatures with his spell.
Either way, he is itching to go in.
| GM Shathira |
BBQ will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Whale will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Whale will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
BBQ harpoon Eli: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Swim checks of DC 10 are needed in the cave, unless you have a swim speed. I'll let you nab the ring of swimming from Morgrym, but I'll need to know who has it.
Astein flings the handful of mica and flings it forward and it expands into a brightly glowing mass of golden motes, that settle over the Brinebrood Queen and the Whale. The queen immediately shrieks and cuts the rope holding your friends up. Sandara and Crimson splash down into the churning water, amidst the leftover waste from the Whale's meals. They look over to where the party is, before they are yanked under water by the weight of the metal bars tied to their feet. The Whale roars, his grossly obese hands rubbing at his eyes. "Blind! Mother they blinded me! MY EYES!!!
Moved you up on the map to here, so you won't have to start rounds so far away.
*****************round 1****************
INIT:The Whale; BBQ, Ri'el, Octopus, Eli, Astein, Garavaen, Davina
The Whale continues to thrash about futilely trying to clear his vision. The Brinebrood Queen mutters something in her language, and hurls her harpoon at Eli which misses by a large margin.
Ri'el
|
"Sandara!" Ri'el yells just as she hits the water. Without a second thought, he swims towards her, his spell allowing him to cut through the water with ease.
Since I have a swim speed, I can use the run action underwater. But the question is...is that an octopus in the water between Sandara and me? If not, I'm going to swim up to her so I can grab her with my prehensile hair. If it's in the way, I'm going to be casting a spell first...
| GM Shathira |
At this point, Ri'el has a swim speed, so doesn't need to make a swim check, everyone else will need swim checks before their turn. If the swim check is made, you are sill at -2 to hit, and damage is at half for slashing or bludgeoning weapons. Piercing weapons do damage as normal. On a failed roll: Creatures flailing about in the water (usually because they failed their Swim checks) have a hard time fighting effectively. An off-balance creature loses its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and opponents gain a +2 bonus on attacks against it.
Ranged attacks in water:Ranged Attacks Underwater: Thrown weapons are ineffective underwater, even when launched from land. Attacks with other ranged weapons take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for every 5 feet of water they pass through, in addition to the normal penalties for range.
Currently the octopus is underwater, and both the Whale and Brinebrood Queen (BBQ) are considered treading water. It's easy to assume that both can swim and breathe underwater, given the Grindylow you've already faced.
Both the Whale and BBQ have taken their actions. Everyone feel free to give me actions, I'll bot Eli
Ri'el
|
Ri'el tries to swim to Sandara, only to see an octopus blocking the way.
"Get out of the way!" he snarls as he drives his hair into the octopus in a corkscrew motion.
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
damage roll: 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
| Garavaen Drusus |
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Garavaen swims forward, trying to fire at the large octopus as soon as he gets a clear view of it.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 21 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
| Davina Kurikami |
Don't foget I have touch of the sea up as well so I two have a swim speed.
Davina swims forward using wings that have changed into something more like the fins of a ray to get closer to her friends before speaking several words in a dialect of celestial and causing a wave of divine blessing to engulf her friends.
I cast Bless after moving forward. So +1 on attack rolls and saves vs fear folks!
| GM Shathira |
D'oh! I knew that, Davina :P and meant to have put it in the blurb above
Eli vs Whale: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Eli vs Whale: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Eli vs Whale conf crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Eli vs Whale Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
************Round 1 Cont************
INIT:The Whale; BBQ, Ri'el, Octopus, Eli, Astein, Garavaen, Davina
Ri'el dives into the water, his hair whipping about him to a point, which slams into the octopus, clouding the water with blood, but the animal appears to be resillient, and lets out a cloud of ink before jetting away with a swift thrust of its tentacles.
Eli fires at the Whale, two arrows streaking away one of which hits the behemoth in his neck.
Garavaen fires, but his arrow slows in the water before it can reach the octopus.
Davina moves easily in the water and as she speaks angelic words, a silvery gold nimbus surrounds the group, adding to their abilities.
*************Round 1 Status**************
BBQ no damage
Whale 4 Damage Blinded
Octopus 10 damage
Astein 20/20
Eli 15/18
Davina 13/17
Garavaen 25/25
Ri'el 19/19
| GM Shathira |
Ranged combatants remember that the Whale and BBQ are mostly submerged, so if fired at above water, get a +8 to AC. The same applies to you as well if they fire ranged weapons at you above water. Below water, it's -2 to your roll for every 5' the projectile travels. Squares in this place are 10'
**************Round 2*************
INIT:The Whale; BBQ, Ri'el, Octopus, Eli, Astein, Garavaen, Davina
The Whale moves his ponderous bulk forward, head whipping from side to side listening for any prey that may be near. It's constant bellows about it being blind not helping him at all.
The Brinebrood Queen holds out her hand as her harpoon returns to her hand. She then points at the corridor and spouts some words in a foreign sounding tongue. A thick fog covers the corridor, through which the party cannot see. Denoted by the marker under the tokens.
