GM ShadowLord |
I should have pointed this out earlier, not sure why it escaped me. Undead are not subject to non-lethal damage Kimiya, you must hit them for lethal or do no damage. How does that change your previous attack?
Watkins buries his arrow into the shoulder of the cleric who grunts in pain while Jeffrey misses the cleric.
The cleric takes a 5' step northwest and shouts, "May the The God of the End Times take you all!" as he lets another burst of negative energy that blasts everyone except for Benny for 2 damage DC13 Will for half.
Meanwhile the undead creature takes a 5' step NW behind Kimiya and slashes at him with both claws. He misses on his first attempt but the second rakes his back for 2 damage. Make a DC12 Fort save or join Benny in the diseased column.
Party up!
CNE: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Claw Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Kimiya Sayo |
Ahh - unaware of that. Same attack but it does 9 if it hits.
Kimiya cries out as the negative energy and undead claw harm him. "I tried to do the honorable thing" he says softly to himself. He drops his naginata and pulls his katana, slashing at the undead before 5' stepping away. So much for my Iajutsu Strike but I may not be standing too much longer.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 (+2 if it's mind altering or poison.)
Katana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 for Dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Watkins |
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Watkins side steps and fires more arrows at the cleric.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Bennybeck Wabbittracks |
The halfling will move over and will attempt to strike the flanked undead creature.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Is the undead thing being healed by the channels?
Jeffrey Warren |
@Benny: The negative energy is used to hurt us, so it's not healing the undead. A cleric's channel can't do both at the same time.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Jeffrey feels the cleric's channel tickle him and grins a bit wider than usual. "Not impressed!"
Assuming the cleric still stands:
After his allies' attacks Jeffrey 5-foot steps up to the cleric and swings his longsword at the man.
Longsword, Tower Shield penalty: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 - 2 = 23 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 2 = 18 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
If the cleric was already down, Jeffrey would've 5-foot stepped up to the undead and used the same attack.
GM ShadowLord |
Just when things are the bleakest, things instantly change in favor of the party.
Kimiya slashes at the cleric and Watkins buries two arrows into their foe and are able to drop him to the ground. Behind them Jeffrey is busy with the undead creature as he lands an amazingly well placed attack. Once again however, the creature seems to be unaffected by the large majority of the damage done to him and still stands.
The undead rakes at Kimiya from behind with both his claws. He misses the first time but adjusts and slashes from shoulder to waist on his back.
I believe you said you are AC-2 to all enemies other than Dalirio, correct Kimiya? If so, a 13 should hit. Apply the 4 damage and make a fort save if so.
Party is up. Cleric is down, only undead remains.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Jeffrey Warren |
Jeffrey 5-foot steps so he's flanking with Kimiya. He then drops his cold iron longsword and draws his alchemical silver warhammer. "Let's see if this works better!"
Alchemical Silver Warhammer, Tower Shield penalty, Flanking: 1d20 + 6 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 - 2 + 2 = 7 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
The warhammer almost slips out of Jeffrey's hand when he swings it. "Whoa!"
Kimiya Sayo |
Fortunately that penalty ends when the cleric goes down.
Kimiya feels the claws at his back and spins, swinging his sword upwards.
Katana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 for Dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Watkins |
Watkins switches to blunt arrows and resumes his arrow-ial assault on the undead creature.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM ShadowLord |
Watkins second arrow seems to do the trick as the undead crumples to the ground. In a large bloody puddle the oracle continues to bleed out, seconds from death.
On Dalirio: breastplate, cataclysm amulet, masterwork heavy flail
Around the room various creates are scattered. Half of the crates in this room are marked with gigantic red X’s, painted on with a wide brush. Searching them reveals supplies to include flour, grains, sugar, coffee, tea, driedgoods, and so on.
Once combat is over noise erupts from the cells to the south, it sounds like prisoners are being held captive behind the doors.
Kimiya Sayo |
Kimiya sheathes his sword and retrieves his naginata as he joins Benny by the oracle. He looks down and says a quick, silent prayer before stepping a few feet away to take a look at his own injuries. I'm quite badly hurt but should look after the prisoners. He moves toward the doors, ready for a trap.
Watkins |
If needed to save Moumoko's life Watkins will retrieve Jeffrey's wand and with his permission use it on her. If she is stabilized though I don't see any reason to use a charge on someone afk >.>
Watkins stares at the udead corpse.
That was a close one.
"Is everyone alright?"
Watkins moves to the cells and slows down as he nears. He turns to the halfing. "Perhaps it would be prudent to check for more axe traps?"
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Watkins |
Watkins also points to one of the crates with a red x on it. "The Grand Lodge needs one of these crates to remain unopened for some sort of ruse. I will arrange for it to be picked up."
Jeffrey Warren |
Jeffrey puts away his warhammer and picks up his longsword, which he sheaths. If Watkins requires his wand, Jeffrey's willing to lend it to him.
"Hello, everyone!" Jeffrey says as he moves over to the cells. "We're here to save you! Is there by the way a fellow named Cestis with you? We're his comrades from the Society."
Jeffrey puts his tower shield on his back and searches the oracle and room for a key, in order to open the cells. If he can't find a key, Jeffrey'll instead use brute force to open the cells.
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
GM ShadowLord |
Lol, searching the oracle? She didn't die, no looting teammates!
Jeffrey finds a key to the cells on the CLERIC, Dalirio. The halfling is able to prevent the oracle from bleeding out, but just as she is very near death. He doesn't feel the effects of his failed fort save just yet, but he will start to fill ill quite soon enough.
One of the prisoners shouts, "Yes, he's in here! But... He's injured badly I'm afraid."
"Thank you!" one of them cries out. "That man was insane. He was going to sell us as slaves!"
GM ShadowLord |
One of the men in the cells responds, "I overheard that crazy ass cleric talking to another woman about 'His Hek-a-something.'"
A woman nearby smiles and nods, "That creature was a Huecuva."
Seeing confused faces on some she continues. "Huecuvas are the risen corpses of heretical clerics who blasphemed and renounced their deities before meeting death. In unlife, they hate and seek to destroy those pious souls who keep their vows. Although easily mistaken for zombies or even skeletons, huecuvas have a spark of intelligence that makes them cunning and deceptive foes. During daylight hours, a huecuva becomes shrouded in an illusion that causes it to appear as it did in life—at these times, a huecuva might seek to infiltrate society to dwell among those it hates. When night falls, it emerges to seek out its prey. Fortunately for the living, the typical huecuva has only fragments of intellect remaining, so it is usually not long before the undead creature makes an error of judgment or simply reveals itself for the monster it is."
When she finishes her long-winded speech she looks around at people's mouths hanging open. "What? I like to research in my spare time."
The party rescues the prisoners and sets them free. Returning to the Venture Captain the party relays the information they found along the way about the underground slavery ring Daliro was wrapped up in.
For now, the more brazen kidnappings stop and the party have restored some semblance of peace to the city. How long that peace will last though is an unknown.
***** END OF PART 1 - THE SHIPYARD RATS *****
* Roll for day jobs please!
* There are no items/boons gained or made available for this mission. Everyone accumulates 1XP, 2PP and 538 Gold.
* I'll begin work on your Chronicles and setting up a new thread to recruit two more folks.
Jeffrey Warren |
"I see," Jeffrey responds to the woman, "that explains the look in its eyes. Most undead have empty eyes, but this one had a spark of emotion in its eyes. Though it wasn't a pretty emotion."
When all has passed Jeffrey will go around town in search of odd jobs for his company. "Hello, my name's Jeffrey Warren from Warren Inc. We're a company that specialized in those things no one wants to specialize in. Would you like to make use of our services?"
Day Job: Profession (Odd jobs): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Bennybeck Wabbittracks |
The halfling will ask that person if they know if the touch of does anything bad, Does the touch or scratch of a heck of a whatchmacall it do anything?
Jeffrey Warren |
3 XP to level, correct. PP (Prestige Points) are basically credits which you can use for services or to get items. PP is tied to your Fame score, which determines which items you can and can't buy. If you look in the guide you can find info on both PP and Fame, but just give a yell if any of it doesn't make sense! :)
