Charisma Rerolls: A PC can spend a Harrow Point to reroll a Charisma-based check. She must abide by the new result (although if she has additional Harrow Points remaining, she can use them to attempt additional rerolls).

Destiny Shall Not Be Denied: A PC can spend a Harrow Point as an immediate action to force the GM to reroll a d20 roll. She must abide by the new result (although if she has additional Harrow Points remaining, she can use them to force additional rerolls).

Psychic Wrath: A PC with levels in a class that grants bonus spells based on her Charisma score can spend a Harrow Point to increase the power of a spell from that class’s spell list as she casts it. She increases the spell’s DC by 2 and gains a +4 bonus on caster level checks to overcome spell resistance and a +2 bonus on attack rolls for that spell.

Roll Card: Gain a +2 bonus on all Charisma-based checks. In addition, he treats his caster level as if it were 1 higher when casting spells gained from a class that grants bonus spells based on his Charisma score.

You cross the central hallway and enter the southeast door. A single low desk sits against the wall of this room. A large wooden door marked with a painting of a spider is on the southern wall. Light is coming from beneath the door to the north. According to Halvara, the northern door should lead to Devargo's bedroom.

Col approaches the door to the north and listens.

Ayako listens for the sounds of sex.

You hear Devargo speak from inside, "Well, what are you waiting for? You should know you can't sneak up on me on my own ship. The spiders share all they see. But that's a secret you won't survive to tell. Come in. I have a surprise for you."


Ayako looks at the others and makes a cutting motion across her throat to indicate they should just go for a charge.

Nadya nods at Ayako's suggestion. Figuring it would be better to get the others into the room as quickly as possible, she quickly steps up and opens the door to clear the path for Ayako, Col and Sebastian.

Col grabs a tangle foot bag from his pack and with his rapier in his other hand he enters the door when Nadya opens it.

You throw open the door to this room.

This wooden chamber is clean and dry. An ornate bed rests against the far wall, while a single dresser and a round table and chair fill out the rest of the room. A wooden sea chest sits at the foot of the bed.

Devargo stands in the center of the room. His bladed gauntlets drip with poison. Halvara lies on the floor in a pool of blood; her throat slit.

"Welcome!" exclaims Devargo, throwing wide his arms, "Such a shame about the b@%%%. She was a good lay but I do not tolerate betrayal. She has you to thank for her fate, you know. But don't mourn too much. You'll be joining her very shortly."

No surprise round. Both sides were ready for each other. I'm assuming you aren't interested in talking.

Sebastian curses as Devargo reveals he'd been watching them, but the pool of blood catches him by surprise. Sebastian's eyes flick back up to his enemy, sneering glee plastered across the man's evil face. Rage takes hold of Sebastian and he throws himself into battle without thinking, intending to feed Devargo's fangs back to him. He lashes out with his rapier without finesse, blind emotion robbing him of skill.

Devargo dodges Sebastian's attack but succumbs to the energized assault of the rest of the party. Devargo freezes under Ayako's deathly proclamation and does not see the tanglefoot bag that pegs him in the chest and explodes, binding him to the floor. Nadya's curse is the topping on the cake.

Devargo roars in fury and lashes out at the only target within reach, Sebastian, with his two poisoned blades but fear and the sticky resin slow his swings just enough for Sebastian to avoid them.

"I thought to charm him with a spell, but perhaps tormenting him otherwise is better still." Nadya calls up another hex, this time attempting to slow Devargo's reactions to Col and Sebastian.

Sebastian begins to remember his lessons as he only just manages to avoid Devargo's poisoned blades. Stepping around Devargo, he tries for a thrust to his side. "You'll pay for your crimes!"

Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5


Round 2

Entangled, Devargo is unable to avoid Sebastian's strike and Sebastian draws a line of blood along his side, but Devargo does manage to avoid Col's attack, turning it out of harms way with his own blade. Weakened by Nadya's first hex, the second hex also takes hold and Devargo slows even further.

Still bound to the floor, Devargo swings wildly, once each at Sebastian and Col. Both men parry the attacks and remain unharmed.

Taking advantage of his opponent's immobility, Sebastian adjusts his tactics. "What a shame the King of Spiders has only two legs!" Pressing in, he forces an opening that Devargo could have easily countered had he been able to adjust his own footing.

"Yes, a shame." Nadya knits her brow tighter and at the same time tries to further tighten her hold on Devargo's mind.

Two legs that didn't know when to run, and two arms that cut where they should not have cut. Perhaps he has no further use for them.


Round 3

Sebastian and Col pierce Devargo from opposite sides and he slumps, clearly very wounded. Nadya continues to weakened Devargo with her glare.

"I'm not done yet! Chittersnap, what are you waiting for?!" Devargo shouts and drinks a potion (which provokes) and vanishes from sight.

I rolled the attack of opportunities because Devargo's success or failure would affect everyone's actions in round 4 so just to keep things moving smoothly.

You sense Devargo stepped south of Col.

Col raises his blade defensively in front of him as he says "Devargo, surrender now and we'll make this quick."


Devargo...appear to us right now and face us in combat or be remembered by your men wether you win or lose as a weakling.

Round 4

Sebastian is unable to locate Devargo, so I'll continue. Also none of the doors lock, but you can block the square by standing there.

As you search for Devargo, the door to the south swings open.

Inside, this dark chamber is riddled with dizzying tunnels and twisting corridors formed by thick cobwebs. The floor is a sticky, lumpy mass of webbing and dozens, if not hundreds, of bones—many of which seem to be from humanoid bodies. Some of the webs seem to shimmer and dance, almost as if reflecting rainbows in their silken forms.

Within the webs, in the dim light, Nadya makes out a hideous purple creature that walks upright like a man, but its face is that of a spider, and its hands are sickle-shaped claws. It stays deep within the webs but spits its own webbing at Nadya from spinnerets between its legs entangling her.

Web vs. Touch AC 12: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Next a spider the size of a large dog emerges from the webs into the meeting room. It also spits a bolt of webs, this time at Ayako, entangling her as well.

Web vs. Touch AC 10: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Two other child-sized spiders with blue-and-yellow-striped abdomens scuttles along their gossamer webs but they don't attack immediately.

Col and Ayako's taunts most likely intimidate Devargo but he isn't foolish enough to reply and reveal his position. He remains invisible this round. You are successful and he is shaken for 2 rounds.

Ettercap - Knowledge (Dungeoneering) DC 13:

Ettercaps are solitary creatures and rarely group with others of their kind, even to mate. When they do group, they tend to attract a variety of different spiders, forming a strange collective of ettercaps and arachnids. Ettercaps are known for building cunning traps out of webs and other natural materials, using them to trap prey. They have no particular strengths or vulnerabilities.

Giant Spider - Knowledge (Nature) DC 6:

This is a typical spider that's grown to giant proportions.

Dream Spider - Knowledge (Nature) DC 10:

Dream spiders are child-sized spiders with blue-and-yellow-striped abdomens. They lurk in dark places such as jungle canopies or mossy growths. Dream spiders are a treasure unto themselves. Silk spun from dream spider webs is particularly valued although care must be taken in handling the stuff. Those who come in contact with the webs experience strange hallucinations. The primary value of a dream spider, though, is to an alchemist who has mastered the craft of brewing shiver from dream spider venom.

"Umm. Some help might be good here!" Nadya throws a vicious look at the ettercap. She quickly shares what she knows of both types of spiders.

Col sees the door to the south open and his two companions get entangled in the sticky mess. He immediately rushes to their aid and thrusts his rapier at the spider in front of him.

Sebastian runs up to the giant spider and attacks it dealing it a powerful blow.

Acid Miss Direction: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Ayako's throw goes wide and the acid flask breaks against the back wall, splashing the spider for minor acid damage. The nimble spider deftly dodges Col's attack.

Chittersnap's Will Save vs. Evil Eye DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Meanwhile, the ettercap also fails against Nadya's stare.

The ettercap responds by firing another web into the room, targeting Sebastian, but its a wild shot that doesn't come near hitting him.

The giant spider also bites at Sebastian. Sebastian manages to block the spider's lunge with his rapier and force it back.

Bite vs. AC 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

The dream spiders remain in their webs and Devargo remains hidden.

Wedged up and with nowhere to go, Ayako tries to help Nadya escape from the webs as a magic syllable drops form her lips

Undeterred by his last miss Col thrusts his rapier at one of the spiders hairy legs.

"Maybe we'll make it through this yet..." Nadya continues to stare down Chittersnap, this time trying to get it to relax its defenses as soon as Sebastian and Col are able to go after it.

The spiders prove to be a new and interesting challenge for Sebastian. Thinking quickly, he adapts a stance used for fighting an opponent with two swords to defend against the spider's fangs. The webs complicate matters even further, hampering his ability to attack the spider while dodging or catching them on his buckler.

Round 6

Col skewers one of the spider's legs, removing it from it's body, but it has seven more, and hardly seems to notice the loss.

Chittersnap's Will Save vs. Evil Eye DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

This time the ettercap resists Nadya's stare and only suffers a loss in defense briefly.

The giant spider is severely injured but the mindless creature has no concept of retreat. It turns its attention to Col who stabbed it last but it stumbles and misses.

Bite vs. AC 21: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

The cowardly ettercap remains in its nest and fires a web yet again at Sebastian. The attack comes closer but Sebastian dodges at the last second and the string of webbing flies harmlessly past.

Can I ride the spider? If not, ignore this post and just attack the spider like normal; first check should be sufficient to hit if re-purposed.

Sebastian, tiring of being put on the defensive, takes matters into his own hands. With a bounding leap, he launches himself into the air above the spider, hoping the thing's grotesque abdomen will prove sufficiently saddle-like for a safe landing.

Sebastian somersaults into the air and lands on the spiders back. It bucks widely but he maintains his grip for now.

I'll allow your acrobatics to avoid the AoO and I converted your ride check to a grapple check, which was enough to succeed.

Ayako struggles in the webs and is unable to escape. Col tries to hit the spider but fails to hit as the spider and Sebastian wrestle each other.

Nadya will Evil Eye the ettercap again, targeting his saves. The ettercap fails his save.

Chittersnap's Will Save vs. Evil Eye DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Chittersnap fires another web at Sebastian. Sebastian hugs the spider's body tightly and dodges yet again.

The giant spider attempts to shake Sebastian loose shaking wildly until he is forced to let go.

Devargo, frustrated that an opening to escape has not presented itself, changes tactics and grabs Nadya from behind and holds a poisoned blade to her throat. This causes him to become visible once again. Now that you can see him, it appears that some of his wounds have healed.

Sebastian, shaken loose from the spider, takes heed of Col's direction. Quickly sidestepping, he stabs at Devargo's arm with crippling intent.

Sebastian stabs Devargo's arm causing him to scream in pain. The wound looks as crippling as Sebastian intended.

Ayako tries to help but fails. The webs hamper her movements.

Col continues to struggle to land the killing blow against the giant spider but the stubborn creature remains elusive.

Nadya knows she has little chance of escaping Devargo's grasp so she silently slips a dagger from her belt and attempts to stab him in the gut but she is held too tightly.

Dagger: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2

Chittersnap fires another web at Sebastian. The room is quickly filling with webs but Sebastian's luck holds.

Web vs. touch AC 13: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

The giant spider bites at Col again. Col kicks the spider in the head, holding it at bay with his boot.

Bite vs. AC 21: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

"Curse you!" Devargo shoots Sebastian a deathly stare. "I'll kill all of you! Chittersnap, quit messing around and attack them!"

Devargo wraps his bloody arm around Nadya's neck, maintaining his grapple. With his other hand, he slides his blade across her chest. The wound is minor but Nadya can feel the poison begin to course through her veins.

Bladed Gauntlet Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Poison Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
