Maria blinks and thinks for a second, "Well damn, that is a great plan. I'm sorry, we've never had anyone with access to that ability. Plus, we seem to end up in the sewers or tombs under cities more than out in the open. Yeah, go for the entangle. Rumble and Zith can have time to move up and beat on any that get free while we pick them off at range."

She pulls out two vials of grease and hands them to Rumble and Zithembe, "If you would like to be harder to grab, slather this on yourself. If not, I won't be offended." The wiry elf pulls her bow and prepares to fire.

Alchemical Grease if you two want it. I'm not doing any rolls yet sorta assuming we will get a 'surprise round' or something similar to make those attacks/cast spells/start moving.

Rumble takes a vial, nodding in thanks to Maria, and slathers it over his rocky armor.

The Grandfrogger watches the dwarf and elf with interest. "Expecting to be grabbed, you are?" he asks curiously. "By what? Entangle you, the newly-awoken seeds may - but strong enough to restrain you, they are not."

Turning to Zithembe, the grippli continues, "When new life springs forth from the earth, where will you want to be?"

Ready to put this plan into action! The Grandfrogger can ready an action to cast entangle when folks reach a certain distance from the demons, or even cast it as the signal to engage.

"Little over half a day's ride," Sir Ilivan answers distractedly as the rest of you make your plans. As it turns out, the vermleks seem quite focused on the macabre scene playing out in front of them and remain unaware of your presence. After making what preparations you can make...the signal is given and you launch your attack!

Zithembe advances and draws his enchanted blade. For a moment, before he moves away and brings the spirits with him, those of you who participated in his morning séance feel the struggle, fear, and determination of crusaders past as well as the speeding of the heart and sweat dripping down your brow of Sarkorian hunters even more past.

The Grandfrogger thumps his walking stick on the ground, and his red eyes flash with light for a second. He begins to chant in an unknown language, and as he does so the ground underneath the demons begins to twist and writhe with new life. Within seconds, thick weeds and grasping vines reach out for something taller to latch onto.

Casting entangle (green spread). Creatures can avoid becoming entangled with a DC 15 Reflex save, though creatures that remain in the area will have to make saves again at the end of the Grandfrogger's next turn.

Maria steps up to get a clear line of sight and fires at the one Hepsubia hit, ”Even the plants want them destroyed. This is just like Kyonin!”

As Zithembe begins to move, drawing out his weapon and preparing to channel the spirits of the land, Grandfrogger calls out to the plants of the land. What grass and weeds that have managed to survive atop this patch of unflooded land begin to grow and eagerly attempt to wrap themselves around any and everything within reach!

And they really do get everything - all three of the vermleks as well as all of the commoners find themselves entangled in the grasping plants. Maria attempts to fire at the same vermlek that Hepsubia already hit but even with the element of surprised and the entangling vines working in her favor the shot still flies a little too high.

The Grandfrogger nods once, then begins hopping after Rumble and Zithembe. Crossbow in his hand, he pauses to pull a bolt from underneath his heavy cloak and slide it into place.

The Red Vermlek continues to get plugged full of holes as Effie races ahead of the others and then stops to fire a shot, leaving the demon looking a bit bloodied.

The two commoners on the ground remain curled up into fetal positions, cowering and shaking, too scared or perhaps too injured to try and fight their way free of the entangling vines. Now the two standing on their feet are another matter and they twist and squirm against the plants, trying to free themselves...

Double move! I recall the watery bits being different terrain, but can't find the post... Moved a full 40ft, but obviously would be shorter depending.

Rumble, it was hiding in discussion, I searched forever too until I checked there. I copied and pasted the terrain stuff onto the map now though. Shallow water is difficult terrain, deeper (dark spots) require swimming.

"I'd say that Zith is older than he looks, Grandfrogger, but how do you tell the age of a living statue anyway? Frankly I'd expect him to be crumbling by now. How long does a grippli live, actually? Longer than a statue?"

Effie holds her position whilst she keeps her pistol turning in the air. She slides a cartridge into the weapon, then unloads it at the wounded demon.

I'll keep Inspire up for a couple more rounds, but would like to hold something in reserve for the Fort since it looks like we'll get there the same day (assuming we clean up these guys with no big problems).

Both Effie and Hepsubia continue firing upon the entangled vermleks, focusing specifically on the injured Red. Hepsubia's arrow misses this time and she gives it a good tongue-lashing in response but Effie hits the mark yet again, blowing another small hole in the demon's hide!

The commoners continue to fight against the entangling vines as well but their thrashing and flailing is all in vain. The Grandfrogger sure knew what he was doing with that bit of magic!

Now the spirits of crusaders past and ancient Sarkorian hunters infuse those around the medium. The bronze metal of his eyes transforms into ruby. "Let us hold them here, Rumble."

Zithembe taunts the vermleks a second time as he moves onto higher, drier ground and opts to hold the line there. But he's not alone, for Rumble and all the spirits of crusaders and hunters past stand with him.

Yet for the moment, it looks as though their assistance may not be needed as Red tries once again to break free of the vines and once again fails. The demon therefore has no good retort to Zith's taunt and is instead reduced to angry, inarticulate gibberish.

Both Blue and Orange struggle against the vines once more and while Blue remains held fast, Orange finally manages to break free! The vermlek hustles out of the range of the entanglement magic, drawing a scythe as it does.

The Grandfrogger wordlessly hops after the two tall folk before staring at the demon that had the audacity to free itself with a large red eye. ”Unwelcome here, you are.” An unseen wind causes his heavy cloak to wave and flap against the knobby arm pointing at the vermlek.

Move and use Evil Eye on Orange to give it a -2 penalty to AC for 7 rounds (Will 15 to reduce duration to 1 round).

It seems as though the luck of the ranged strikers is on holiday as Hepsubia's next arrow also misses the mark, even after having moved a bit closer to the action.

Trusting to his companions to bring the actual pain, the Grandfrogger continues to harry the demons by giving the escaped Orange the evil eyeball...which seems to work! Orange shudders and looks away from the unsettling grippli, unable to continue meeting his gaze.

Effie takes aim now at Orange and fires, just managing to graze the vermlek's arm courtesy of Grandfrogger's timely hoodoo! It's also about this time that the two commoners that are still standing manage to finally wriggle free of the Grandfrogger's vines. But instead of fleeing, they approach...with clubs ready, terrified expressions on their faces. One circles around towards Rumble while the other heads for Zithembe...

Your GM is not a butt and as such will not rule that your readied attack goes off against this poor sap!

"Your friends are dead, and demons wear their corpses like coats. If you are not a demon, lower your weapon and depart the battle," Zithembe says to the farmer in front of him before breaking away to engage with one known to be a vermlek.

Leaving himself open, he steps around Rumble in order to thrust the point of his blade toward the (orange) vermlek.

Zithembe pointedly ignores the frightened man up in his grill - besides giving him a warning - and steps around Rumble to strike at Orange with his longsword. Cyan does take a swipe at the shabti with his club as this happens, but it's a swing so forceful and wild that not only does the man miss but he even manages to spin himself around with the sheer force of it. Focused on the task at hand Zithembe slashes at Orange, opening up a large wound on the demon's chest!

Back in the tangling weeds Red continues to flail helplessly, still unable to get free.
