Difficult executive decision: we will re-skip the optional encounter.

The mouth-filling stench of the sewers finally breaks in the relatively fresh air of Ardis’s docks. The moonlight shining down upon the weathered stones beneath the sewer gate catches a glint of gold: a small, worn locket smashed upon the rocks holds a pair of tiny portraits. One shows a Vonran Vilk that may have walked the streets fifty years ago. The other, torn and gnawed, shows Markov Rutowski--Vilk’s lost lover.

A howl pierces the night sky. Several blocks away, a hunched figure pauses to watch its pursuers emerge from the sewer, then takes off running in the direction of Rutowski’s townhouse.

Immediately, you must get past a row of collapsed fishing shacks. One of them still has a wall with a door in it that might be easier to break through than climbing over the tangled, rotted lumbar.

Rules
The space between each obstacle is 30 feet.
MOVE Action: You may attempt to navigate one of the two obstacles on the space to move to the next obstacle.
STANDARD Action: You may draw a weapon, cast a spell, attack with a ranged attack. If you are on the same square as Vilk, you may make a melee attack.
FULL ROUND Action: Cast a full round spell or "Double Move" by attempting BOTH obstacles on your card. If you succeed both, you move 3 cards. If you fail one by 5 or less, you move 1 card. If you fail one by >5, you don't move. If you fail both you can't move and lose a turn.

"Oh no you don't! You're gonna give shape-shifters a bad name!" Holan-Ji yells as he emerges from the sewer. "Well, worse than we already got, anyway."

Determined to catch Vilk, he puts his shoulder down and slams into the door,

I placed you 3 cards ahead, but I don't see anything that says you can't stop early if you want to land on Vilk's card. However, you may also want to be ahead so you spend a turn shifting: speed above 30 ft or flight add a bonus to your rolls.

Can we interact with Vilk if we're in his square? Grapple or attack to slow him down? I presume he's just going to move into the Guard Station at the start of the next round anyway, so that's perfect. Thanks.

Instead of moving, you can make a standard melee attack against him if you start on his card.

Maria and Holan-Ji each smashes through a rotting door. Soddy and Effie follow Maria, knocking the remaining debris out of the way. With a great crash, the doorway and wall collapse upon itself right in front of Hepsubia, slowing her down.

Once the dust clears, you all see that Holan-Ji has barreled his way forward, apparently taking a shortcut he noticed, and managed to get in front of the werewolf's intended path.

The lycanthropy-cursed Vilk leaps from the edge of a crumbling bridge into the street below it. While Holan-Ji is sure the beast must pass by him to get past, he hears a commotion and glances over his shoulder. Vilk managed to sneak past him and is heading toward an abandoned--even more than usual--section of the city.

I fear so. I'm afraid this campaign may have come to its end. Sad, but I think we've lost too many to to even finish this scenario, much less press on beyond it. I'm not declaring it dead; that's not my call, just lamenting the likelihood.

Holan-Ji flies in the shadows, his wake ruffling the guards' cloaks but not their attention. He soars over a house and lands in front of the cursed Pathfinder. It is immediately apparent that Vilk is not alone and runs with another large wolf with dark eyes.

Hepsubia and Maria quickly catch up. The multiple obstacles along the way must stymie in the rest of your team.

Looking at the gushing wounds on her tiger friend and how carefully he had to fall back, Maria steps up and nocks a sharp pointed arrow in her bow before carefully aiming for a vital spot, ”At this point, don’t hold back. If fate is to have him fall, so be it. We have tried to talk him down and keep him alive. Let’s just finish this.”

She fires, then spends a moment watching the were-creature’s movements.

Step, Shoot, Study Target (only useful in melee atm, but you never know), burning two uses of inspiration to add 1d6 to that attack roll

He used his Move action last round to stand, so he's not Prone.

The only thing Holan-Ji hears is the roar of the Tiger God within him as he looks at Vilk. Somewhere a high-pitched voice says "just finish this," and he assumes it's just another voice in his head among the many. He roars in agreement as the Tiger's claws extend from his hands and he steps up to face the Wolfman. The Tiger God roars in unison and wreathes Holan-Ji's claws in fire as a gift while together they bite and tear into Vilk.

The Claw attacks count as Cold Iron and Silver vs DR, but the Bite does not. All attacks do Hellfire damage. Swift Action to extend claws, Free 5' Step, Full Attack to "finish this." All damage is lethal; though he could abort either of the last 2 attacks if the man drops since he did take some NL previously.

Hepsubia flanks the werewolf and strikes, if it's still fighting back

| Extinction | url= |

Hepsubia steps into position and strikes, but her blade skitters across Vilk's mail shirt. Holan-Ji roars before pouncing upon Vilk. His teeth sink into the lycanthrope, but the wounds immediately begin to heal. His fiendish claws tear through the mail and the cursed flesh. The furrows in the werewolf's body smoke.

Vilk collapses under Holan-Ji's onslaught. The oni-spawn feels the werewolf's resistance fade to nothing. The beast lies there panting heavily as blood flows from the tears in his chest. He will likely die if not tended soon.

Out of Combat.

Maria moves up with resignation and binds the former pathfinder’s wounds.

Using 1/2 Malaki’s Aid Boons here so I can roll twice and take the higher roll. I also get to use a slightly higher modifier.

The lycanthrope's anatomy seems to be confounding the usually knowledgable elf.

As the werewolf's body slumps to the ground, Holan-Ji steps back. Panting from the exertion, he dismisses the Tiger God's hold on his psyche and follows Vilk to the ground, albeit just onto one knee.

"Damn, he's tough. We heal him, he better not get back up and start again. I don't think the three of us alone can take him out twice. But maybe you two can tie him up just in case, while I take a little breather."

He watches Maria try to patch him up and chuckles, his exhaustion showing through. "Heh, yeah, the bodies of us shifter types ain't exactly normal. But don't worry, I got this." He reaches to the small of his back and draws a black wand with red runes on it. Tapping Vilk first and then himself and then Hep, he lets the infernal energy slowly knit all their wounds.

Infernal Healing wand (he has 1 level of Bloodrager.) Hope that's adequate to ensure Vilk's survival. If not, he's also got an old potion of CLW that he can use.

The magic from the wand gradually heals the wounds on the werewolf's body. The process is slow enough for you to bind him tightly and to, potentially, deliver Hepsubia's dose of wolfsbane--a process that will either kill him or cure him.

Each dose--I'll need to scroll back to see how many Hepsubia bought--gives him a saving throw to cure his lycanthrope and then he needs to continue saving throws against wolfsbane's normal Con damage. If you have them available to you, you can give him buffs to his Fortitude save.

Maria shuffles around in her pack and quickly pulls out four vials of green liquid and three vials of clear liquid.

”Antitoxin should help against the poison, but I don’t recall if we need to wait to see if the wolfsbane works first, before applying the antitoxin or not. And the clear stuff is Padzahr, which can help heal constitution damage from the poison. I also have a scroll of lesser restoration if someone can cast it successfully.”

GM, do we need the werewolf to fail the first save on the poison to get a chance to roll against the were disease? If so, we give him the poison and then give him the antitoxin. If not, the other way around. Padzahr heals one point of Con Damage over a span of one hour and is limited to four in a day, and she also only has three of them. I don’t know if Hep has lesser restoration on any of her spell lists, if not then a UMD to activate that scroll would be necessary.

Apply Wolfsbane. Get a new Fortitude save vs. lycanthrope. Survive the next several Fortitude saves vs. Con damage. So, yes, success is good.

Maria points out the obvious, "Let's not do this in a city street. And since we have a perfectly fine safehouse... Tiger please carry our quarry there. Leave the dog carcass, might be enough to convince some of the town this was just a wild animal attack."

Antitoxin gives +5 to Fort. I say we try the 'cure' and see what happens. Worst case we still stopped a murderer.

Having caught his breath and shaken off the tiredness that follows an all-out battle, Tiger follows the orders of his leader. Joking - it wasn't an order, it was a nicely phrased request, and he is happy to comply.

"Good thing I stocked the safehouse with some noms; I'm famished. And eatin' might help him recover, too." He easily hefts the retired Pathfinder onto one shoulder and adds, "Feels like he could stand to put on a little weight anyhow."

Before applying the cure that is also a poison (but what medicine isn’t?), Maria prepares to help treat the old man as his body battles to live.

She will use the heal skill to attempt to aid Vilk’s saves. The DC of her check is the same as that of the poison, if she succeeds it gives him an extra +4 to his save.
