Scavenger: Additional +2 for finding hidden objects
Some half-orcs eke out a leaving picking over the garbage heaps of society, and must learn to separate rare finds from the inevitable dross. Half-orcs with this racial trait receive a +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks and on Perception checks to find hidden objects (including traps and secret doors), determine whether food is spoiled, or identify a potion by taste. This racial trait replaces the intimidating trait.

So, it looks to me like day 7 needs to see:
Turtle trained
Barricades completed
Fields flooded
Unfortunately, it looks as if we cannot do all three in a single day. Of these things, I think the Barricade (3 units) and the Flooding (2 units) should take priority. If I misread the job break description, then we can do everything on the list. I feel this gives us the most bang for our buck.

Teams Dragon and Ox come back into the village when dusk falls, wet and exausted. They report that the flooding is done. Folium also has good news and shows the others the traps that he has incorporated into the finished barricades. Korug finds some tracks and confirms that he also thinks that the attack will come on day 8

Still want a schedule for day 8. It might be that you are wrong. Unfortunately each team can only be trained by one trainer. You think that a proper shouting (intimidate) speeds training...

![]() |

Folium returns to training, trying to scare the peasants to better performance by shouting out what will happen to their freedoms if they fail.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
I suppose that is a bit too low? Clearly the eastern people don't appreciate freedom as much as Andorans.

![]() |

We can try and train Turtle, but I don't know if it is worth it to have the other teams trained 1/4th of the way.
Have the villagers (other than Turtle) switch off between resting and guarding while we check-up on preparations.
Did any of our surveillance give us an idea of the size of the enemy force?

GMG |

With intimidate it is worth it to train the other teams. I suggest that the persons with the highest intimidate modifier attempt to train teams Crane and Hare, I will assume Folium is training Turtle. You estimate that the Tengu brigands are a few dozen strong.

Day 8
Day 8 sees everyone trying to get some last minute training in while keeping an eye on the horizon. This seems to distract everybody up to the point that training is not as effective as it might be, but luckily no brigands appear! Watches are posted for the night and at dawn of the morning of the ninth day the cry goes up that the enemy has arrived! Riders are noticed on the hills and by midmorning the entire force circles Nesting Swallow in preparation for launching a raid across
the southern fields. The flooded creek halts the riders, however, and they fall back to rethink their assault.
It seems the assault is likely to come from the north...
Defense Points earned: 15
That concluded ACT 2: rightfully called "Many Calculations"
At any time, a PC may choose to spend a number of these points as an immediate action. They can be added to any single attack or damage roll, ability or skill check, saving throw, or can be used to grant the PC a dodge bonus to his AC. Points used only apply to a single roll, and do not otherwise last until the PC’s next action. More than 1 point may be spent on a roll, with a maximum equal to the character level of the PC. A player must decide to use his Defense Points in this way when he announces his action and before he makes the roll the bonus will apply to. Once spent, points from this pool cannot be replenished.
Please position yourselves on the nesting swallow map!

Well, this should be interesting.
"Alright everyone, the brigands. are here. Your families, and your honor are at stake. Show them no mercy. Let's get to work!" Spoken in Tien.

GMG |

Korug, yes. Just put yourself up against the barricades. Folium: that is fine, but it will be tough to climb down (DC 15 climb check)

![]() |

Korug climbs atop the wall for a better vantage point, and pulls out his massive longbow with too heavy a draw for most to use, and knocks and arrow. He arranges his quiver so as to provide fast access and makes sure his bardiche is at the ready as well, should they breach the gates. "These people have been very kind to us. We must do our best to protect them."
