Wuliem BrokenCrown

Wuliem peers into the interior of the warehouse, crinkling his nose at the smell.
I...well...can perhaps lift the crate and carry it to a safer location.
He looks to the group.
Or I could climb up that chain thingy and attempt to use a rope to get closer and lift the crate as someone maneuvers the chain to a safer drop zone?

As you are inspecting the hole and considering plans for getting the crate, some of you hear the too-hasty scratching of clawed feet on wooden boards, and are aware of an impending attack. As they come squeezing between and scampering over crates, you see three filthy rats, each the size of a small dog, with coarse fur, long scabby tails, and eyes that seem to glitter with malicious, ferocious intent.
Surprise Round (1 Standard action or Move action): Alia, *Creatures, Wuliem, Pizzmic, Narvik
Round 1 (next round): Ralklain, Alia, Exitium, *Creatures, Wuiliem, Talor, Pizzmic, Narvik
Treat squares with barrels or crates as difficult terrain and as providing the creatures with Cover unless you are adjacent to the creatures or have a clear path between you and them.
PS - Ralklain, you are in a warehouse full of goods...

Wuliem reaches for his bomb materials and throws one at the centered Dire Rat.
bomb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 plus 7 splash damage!
critical confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Dire Rats!
| GM FurtiveZoog |
The critical is confirmed...
Wuliem throws the bomb and it goes right into the center rats toothy maw before exploding, destroying it utterly; the splash alone leaves the remaining two rats as staggered masses of twitching, torn and burned flesh.
So, that was quick! Back to the plan.
Edit: let me check on the splash damage rules... Splash is always equal to the minimum damage roll, so here it is 1 (of 1d6) + 4 (Int modifier), so 5 points, or 2 points on a save.
Rat R save 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Rat R save 3: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Two failed saves, so basically the same result. I'm still a bit confused about which parts are multiplied on a critical hit...
The remaining two rats run and jump through the hole into the water below, disappearing - likely sinking beneath the waves.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Save DC Ref 15 for 1/2 splash damage...twitch....twitch!
Wuliem's bombs do 1d6+6 plus 7 splash because of Int 18+4, Favored class +1/2 bomb damage, point blank shot +1
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Yeah, I read that. Still confused about a few things, lol.
I didn't know about the favored class. Do those 1/2's round up? Usually 1/2 is rounded down, but there is also often a "1 point minimum" stated - I just don't see it here.
The +1 Point blank definitely applies, so, yeah, they are dead from the splash alone.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
I agree about the 'usually' stated minimum of 1,
but I figured it is everywhere else so I was going with that...lol....unless of course you want me to round down to 0...
(sad face)...
Wuliem looks at his work with a slight satisfied smile spreading on his normally worried and nervous face!
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Ralklain tries to kick one of the rats out as they run away, but misses.
X, go take a look around, willya?
Exitium moves through the other crates, jumping and searching for other creatures, and maybe valuables.
So, are we gonna hang Wullien, drop the crate in the boat or maybe build a "bridge" with the boxes covers and boards?
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Ralklain speaks to Wuliem laughing about the situation:
So we may hang you? By the way you forgot to mention what is the thing to assist you...
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Exitium searches the warehouse and find no other creatures of concern.
Just inside the door sits a handful of crates and kegs of beer. Most of these smaller crates and barrels contain foodstuffs in various states of freshness. Some crates reek of rot. Stacks of simple coffins sit against the east wall. The rest of the crates stacked along the north and south walls contain simple sundries including, but not limited to beer, blocks of clay, coffee, coils of rope, dried fish, lead ingots, nails, nets, raw cotton, rough wool, spare sails, timber planks, various pulleys and tools, and cheap weapons.
Talor Blackstone
|
Talor raises an eyebrow as he looks over the other materials in the warehouse. So we shall suspend Wulien, who will attempt to bring the crate to safety, with a boat below as insurance? Is that the sum of it?
It might work. What does this half-orc have up his sleeve?...
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem looks at both Ralklain and Talor.
I...uh...have an experiment that I've been working on.
It will greatly improve my physical prowess.
He then mutters quietly, If it works as it should!
I agree with using the boat as a...uh...contingency!
Perhaps, I may be able to make use of these extras ropes and pulleys to aid my lifting of the crate?
Wuliem begins to rummage through the materials, fastening together a simple pulley system to attach to the crate and chain.
disable device: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
He then awaits the all go from below before his...show!
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Ralklain will remove his Chain Shirt and coat, will go outside, take the boat and row it under the warehouse. That way we will have a contingency plan. If I cannot keep the boat where I want, a dolphin would do the trick.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem observes that Ralklain has maneuvered the boat underneath the crate.
He then reaches into a pocket, producing an iron vial.
He uncorks its, glancing at his companions.
Well, bottoms up!
Wuliem quickly downs the liquid...
...He then replaces the stopper and places the vial back into a pocket.
Suddenly, Wuliem begins to shake; his clothing grows taunt as he hunches over a bit, a groan coming from his lips.
After a few seconds, Wuliem straightens back up, looking noticeably bulkier--slightly bestial even.
He looks at the crate, grunts as he grabs his pulley, and begins to approach the crate area.
Mutagen Str+4 Int-2 Natural Armor +2
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Wuliem's Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 2
Used the Guidance bonus, but there are additional penalties. A bad enough roll anyway, which I think counteracts a bonus that would probably come from using the pulley to be less weighty.
Wuliem hulks over, but the next grunts and groans are not from him but from the boards! He missteps and the boards start to rock and then splinter as he comes down hard on them!
Wuliem's Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 4 = 17
Fortunately for Wuliem, he is able to hold onto the pulley, scrambling backwards ahead of the collapse to the better boards away from the hole.
Fortunately for everyone else, the crate does not drop into the bay, but does land hard on the small boat's deck close to 15 feet below, bursting open and spilling its contents on the boards.
When the dust and splinters clear, you are able slowly retrieve the items, perhaps putting items into sacks and hoisting the sacks up through the hole.
The rescued crate holds a smaller mahogany box inside, which contains five books and a few loose sheets of paper in a leather folder. The titles and subjects seem completely unrelated to each other: Practical Thaumaturgy In Accordance with Creation, Geographic Anomalies of the Inner Sea, Under Kaer Maga: A Trial and Travel, Physiology of Dragons: An Illustrated Reference, Lost Sarusan. The leather folder contains cargo manifestos, warehouse inventories, and other financial logs from a dozen different merchant houses and trade guilds. The crate also contains 10 sets of masterwork thieves’ tools, three flasks of alchemist’s fire, a flask of acid, a dozen jars of various inks, a footprint book, adamantine weapon blanch, three bags of powder, a deck of marked cards, and two sets of average loaded dice. (Small pieces of paper with the cards and dices explain method and the expected results of their use.)
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Hey, there's a set of tools for you Wuliem! I'll grab one also, for now ^^
Ralklain will bring the boat back outside, where it was before, unless he spots something weird. Then he will handle the items to the others so he can climb back, tie the boat and move along. He asks to Wuliem if he could lock the door the way it was before, just in case.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem takes the set of masterwork thieves tools from Ralklain.
Thank you! I should have picked some up earlier, but this saves money for my experiments!
Wuliem precedes to relock the door.
disable device: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9
Wuliem looks at his companions.
He grins--weakly, I might need to practice a bit with these!
He will take a 20!
Talor Blackstone
|
Talor follows Ralklain down the pier, takes the rope, and helps him tie up and climb back out of the boat. He grins back at Wuliem's comment about needing to practice, but does not speak.
I will take a set of masterwork thieves' tools just in case, and will take whatever alchemist's fire and acid no one else takes.
Pizzmic
|
my internet was down last night but I was going to suggest the boat idea when I started to catch up this morning. My plans to be useful have been foiled pizzmic hears the loud crash of the items into the boat and shakes his head in disgust. SHHHH.....we need to NOT draw attention to ourselves! Even though we are doing the work of the society; breaking into a warehouse and taking items is frowned upon. I think we should try to find another exit to leave by yo avoid the prying eyes of the fishermen
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Hmm, Let's me see Pizzmic. Ralklain looks to the East, West, and South, in turns. We got the sea on this side. Ops, on this one two. And even to the south, oh my god! Apparently we're a hundred feet or more into the sea! He smiles to Pizzmic. Well, i guess if someone show up you will have to charm them.
Sorry Piz, I could not resist that ^^
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem finishes his attempt at re-locking the door.
He turns around to smile at the group, shrugging his shoulders as he places the tools into a pocket.
Well then, I suppose that we should deliver these items to..the...uh...merchant and continue down our list.
| GM FurtiveZoog |
There isn't, oddly, any material in the scenario about after you complete each task, so I think I will mostly gloss over it too.
Returning to the Pickled Imp, Guaril Karela gratefully takes the books and papers, leaving the books on the counter and carefully stashing the folder of papers under counter. "Thank you, my friends, you have done well, and I will well remember this favor." Pointedly, he doesn't ask you any details about the warehouse or how you retrieved the documents...
Continuing on down the list, you head north towards the Temple of the Shining Star, the Ascendant Court’s massive temple to Sarenrae, to meet with Ollysta Zadrian, a retired Pathfinder now operating the Silver Crusade, an effort to use the Society’s resources to help those in need and spread good deeds throughout the world.
Arriving at the Temple of the Shining Star, you are immediately directed to Ollysta Zadrian. This paladin of Sarenrae is young in her years, but holds herself with the poise of a queen and warrior simultaneously. As she notices your arrival, she strides forward, addressing the group in a strong voice.
“Thank the light of Sarenrae you have arrived! I knew Ambrus would come through for us in the Silver Crusade. I desperately need you to bring medicine to an orphanage and let me know if the headmistress, Gilga Baltwin, is deserving of our charity. Since our quest began, the needy have clamored for our aid, and I suspect some are abusing our generosity. It may sound cruel, but there are plenty of dishonest people out in the world eager for easy gold.
“Do you know of the Silver Crusade? After discovering so many factions splintered the Society, a number of us banded together to proliferate the cause of charity and kindness using the Society’s resources. As it is said, ‘The Dawn brings new light’ and I’ve made it my life’s work to use our recent darkness to bring a new light to the world and to the Pathfinder Society.
”I apologize for straying off point. Will you bring this parcel of medicine to Auntie Baltwin’s Home for Recovery in the Eastgate district?”
Pizzmic
|
going back a bit pizzmic looking up at ralklain in awe of his statement says surely ole boy you didn't think I meant to go to the ocean? I would think that logic would only suggest it best we not go back as we came. Maybe use that boat you so readily made use of, maybe we could wait til the shroud of nightfall overcomes the city. But I can see where you might befuddle my words, I shall take better effort to speak slowly and in a more direct fashion while in your company to avoid any futher confusion fastfowarding to the conversion with ollysta Zadrian it shall be our supreme honor to represent the society in this matter for you. It is utterly appauling that anyone would abuse the charity the silver crusade offers.we shall investigate Gilga Baltwin with the utmost discretion to avoid unneeded conflict. Thank yoyu again for the oppurtunity to serve. this new life of bootlicking is becoming pregressively unbearable ole boy. Keep the eye on the prize....one day ole boy your name will be written in the pages of history, one day you will be the stuff of legend
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Now we're talking!
Ralklain listens very carefully to his Venture Captain, while the others may see or remember he have
an embroidered Silver Crusade symbol in leather strips on each of his Chain Shirt sleeves. In order to fulfill the faction purpose you have to show evil that you're not afraid of it, and also encourage your others, as they know you serve the cause of good.
An honor it is. We have heard about your work and I support it, understanding all too well that the resources cannot be used by people who do not deserve them. We will do as you requested and bring as much information as we can.
An orphanage! Kids! Time to show your new tricks X!
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem listens gravely as Ollysta Zadrian explains her position.
I believe that your cause is just and I would be delighted in assisting in this endeveor.
Wuliem looks to the others.
I wonder if we have an hour to...err...
comtemplate this further?
Talor Blackstone
|
Talor nods in agreement at his companions' expressions of support. I do not understand why one would steal from children, but we shall deliver your parcel and sniff out any transgressors.
At Wuliem's request for time, he cocks his head, then shrugs. I am not sure what there is to contemplate. If you need an hour for something else, whatever that is, I think we can still finish on time.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem looks sheepish as it is evident by the looks from Talor and Ralklain--again!--that he is cornered!
Well, I...uh...may need to mix another mutagen,
since I used up my last one.
It will only take me an hour to brew it.
He smiles disarmedly!
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem bows his head at Talor.
I apologize, but I am not...used to being so open with my work.
Some view it as...well...misguided.
I thank you for your understanding.
Wuliem finds a secluded spot off somewhere to set up his supplies and he begins to work on his mutagen.
any votes for Str or Dex?
Ralklain Kiessen
|
Sure Wuliem, take your time. Tell you what, why don't you do that while me and Exitium are playing with the kids and causing some distraction? Maybe you would entartain Aunt Gilga with your mixing and while I hold the kids the others are free to wander about the place and take a good look at it.
I mean, you need a quiet place to do that, right? Maybe Gilga will offer you her office, who knows?
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
Wuliem looks at Ralklain with shock clearly written on his face.
I highly doubt that a...respectable person in
her position would allow me to mix viotile chemicals
in her office, let alone among her charges!
lol...i can imagine how that would look. No children, please don't play with the chemicals!
Pizzmic
|
Pizzmic ole boy we got to watch ralklain, although his intentions seem to be decent his excution seem to be without guidance, maybe I can help with that Im conpletely up for the task of looking around the place with talor and alia. We can learn of the grounds and maybe even see a couple things that are off...but wuliem I agree you should stay somewhere in the distanve while you prefer your brews. No reason to risk the lives of children
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Everyone but Wuliem takes a pleasant hour's break, getting some stall food and drink, or perhaps stopping by one of the holy breweries of Erastil or Cayden Cailean. (There is an ally nearby where you could brew up your mutagen, one that is blind without pedestrians.)
You then make it to the middle-class Eastgate neighborhood of Auntie Baltwin’s Home for Recovery mostly without major incident, except for one moment when ...
Alia's Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Exitium's Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Narvik's Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Pizzmic's Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Ralklain's Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Talor's Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Wuliem's Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Double check for me that I have the right perception bonuses.
Narvik, Ralklain, and Wuliem notice a strange little individual - a halfling, 'handlebar' moustachioed, with wild eyes and angry, clenched fists - intently staring at the group. But, before you can react or approach, it appears that a red-haired woman in an embroidered skirt pulls him backward by the shoulder. Then, a throng of revelers passes between you and them and - they're gone...
Let me know some general (or specific) details about how you might go about investigating things, such as in the neighborhood or at the Home.

Alia slumps along, behind Pizzmic. After the trials and tribulations of the last adventure, she is feeling a loss of confidence in her abilities. But Sarenrae, the Bright Goddess is about redemption. Alia tightens the straps of her backpack, and squares her jaw. Let's get to work!
